22 – Landscaping for a More Sustainable Backyard Before making spring landscaping plans, come attend an informational session about sustainable landscaping practices to use in your own backyard. Jennifer Welch from Polk Soil and Water Conservation District will discuss how to incorporate Best Management Practices (BMPs) to landscape your home. Topics will include native plantings, rainwater harvesting, and ways to improve turf grass areas and increase habitats of pollinators. 5 – Tree Pruning and Maintenance This free workshop is open to anyone eager to learn how to care for young trees (less than 20 feet tall). Parks and

16 – Bike Month PreK Art Celebrate Bike Month with the Pleasant Hill Public Library and Parks and Recreation. Children between the ages of 2-6 are invited to experience bicycle safety education. Participants will learn age appropriate safety skills to navigate the do’s and don’ts of riding a bicycle. Throughout the class children will create a collaborative project relating to bicycles. 23 – Preserve the Taste of Summer Home Food Preserver Iowa State University Extension Nutrition and Health program specialists are eager to announce a new food preservation program, Preserve the Taste of Summer. It is a comprehensive program comprised of both online lessons and handson workshops. Preserve the Taste of Summer is a great opportunity for anyone age 18 years or older interested in learning safe food preservation techniques. JULY 9 – Youth Yoga Kids are busier than ever and crave a slow down just as much as adults do. Yoga is a gentle form of exercise that is for EVERYONE. There is an infinite need to strengthen both our mind and bodies! During our 60 minutes we will calm our mind by breathing and strengthening our bodies through movement. Help the library grow, consider joining the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Public Library! BEST GROUP (BRINGING EDUCATION AND SENIORS TOGETHER) B.E.S.T. is targeted to people age 55 and up. We plan a day trip once a month to local sights. Our day trips are generally on one Thursday of each month from April through September. Times may vary according to the destination. A Holiday Potluck is held in November of each year at the Doanes Park Youth Center on the Friday before Thanksgiving. BEST participant or not, all are welcome! Call the library at 515.266.7815 with questions and to reserve a spot on the bus. Also, find out what trip we have planned or add your name to the mailing list!

The Friends on a quarterly basis on the first Tuesday of the month. They will meet on March 6th, June 5th, and September 4th at 2 pm.

The Friends support through the library by purchasing items and equipment which would otherwise not be available for patrons to use. Books on CD, DVDs and equipment including computers and a popcorn popper have been purchased by the Friends.
