Dinner Delights freezer meal parties are a fun way to assemble meals ahead of time so you can pull them out and have fresh, delicious dinners on the table in no time.

Dinner Delights takes care of the menu planning, shopping, and prepping. At the end of the party, everyone takes home six meals to put in the freezer. Dinner Delights brings all the meal supplies. All you have to bring is bags or a cooler to take the meals home.

21 - Art on the Lake Festival Art on the Lake is excited to announce the 4th annual Art on the Lake Festival which will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019! The Art on the Lake Festival is held at Copper Creek Lake Park in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. The Festival is a family-friendly event that is free to the community and features musicians, food venders, interactive kids’ crafts in Lil’ Artist Alley, and showcases over 50 artists.

Diabetes Self Management Participants will learn how to take control of diabetes and live a healthy life while managing this illness. Education will be provided on the disease process, counting carbohydrates, understanding complications, and ways to reduce blood glucose levels.

October 2 - Loop the Lake-Healthiest State Annual Walk The Pleasant Hill Parks & Recreation is hosting a 30 minute walk to promote the Live Healthy Iowa Initiative. We will make one loop around the lake. Healthy snacks and drinks will be provided.

5 - Tree Spree – Community Tree Distribution Program The City of Pleasant Hill is striving to increase its tree canopy in the community. To do this, high quality native trees (valued at approximately $80 - $100) are being made available to residents of Pleasant Hill. The cost to purchase a tree will be $30. Due to funding, all participants must be Pleasant Hill residents. There is a limit of 1 tree per household. The program is funded by the Elks Lodge through a Beacon Grant.

30 - Babysitting Basics Help your child be a great babysitter by expanding their skills and confidence to provide safe and responsible care when asked to babysit. Designed for students in fifth grade and above, this course teaches basic first-aid, caring for infants and young children, meal preparation, and child development. Upon completion of the course, your child will receive a Babysitting Basics Certificate. Cost of the program includes lunch as well as some babysitting essential items. This program provides a place for care givers to bring their children to play in a safe and fun environment, and it's a great way to make new friends! On a weekly basis, members of the library staff visit daycares and local elementary schools to share books with the children.

We show new books just received at the library and have story times for children to encourage their interest in reading.

On the seond Saturday of each month, the library will open early at 9 am. One hour is being added for patrons who might have difficulties in a library setting during regular hours.

The annual Halloween party will be on October 18, from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Doanes Park Youth Center. This great event sponsored by the Library and the Parks and Recreation Department features games, candy and fun!

BLANK PARK ZOO

On November 2 at 2pm, the Blank Park Zoo will be visiting the library and bringing a few friends for a fun program!

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities are offered on a monthly basis. Children and their parents are invited to participate in great STEM-related activities. Offered by the Polk County Extension Service, this popular series for children in 3rd through 5th grades also offers suggestions for at home activities. STEM activities are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6pm.
