COMMUNITY EVENTS SEPTEMBER – JANUARY September 22 – Art on the Lake Festival Art on the Lake is excited to announce The 3rd Annual Art on the Lake Festival which will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2018! The Art on the Lake Festival is held at Copper Creek Lake Park in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. The Festival is a family-friendly event that is free to the public and features music presented by Central Iowa Blues Society, food from local venders, interactive kids’ crafts in Lil’ Artist Alley, and showcases over 50 local artists. EVENTS CONT. 13 – Babysitting Basics Help your child be a great babysitter by expanding their skills and confidence to provide safe and responsible care when asked to babysit. Designed for students in fifth grade and above, this course teaches basic first aid, caring for infants and young children, meal preparation, and child development. Mural Makers Mural makers is an especially designed art program for middle schoolers. This program gives a place for the needs of this age: individual expression, socializing, and creative growth. Mural Makers engages youth in joy of community service and connects the arts to the community. We will make memories as we come together to develop and design who they are and what they mean to the community. Each artist uses their own individual strengths and talents to form an unified collaborative piece together. Students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook. 12 – Dinner Delights Freezer Meal Parties – Get Ready for the Busy Holiday Season Dinner Delights freezer meal parties are a fun way to assemble meals ahead of time so you can pull them out and have fresh, delicious dinners on the table in no time. They will take care of the menu planning, shopping and prepping. At the end of the party, everyone takes home six meals to put in the freezer. Dinner Delights brings all the meal supplies. All you have to bring is bag to take the meals home. 14 – Kidz Night Out Holiday Edition It's the best LEGO party in town! Kidz Night Out is an evening of creative FUN sure to please your budding builders. Three hours of LEGO activities including loads of free play LEGO bricks for creative projects and challenges. Our signature motorized "technic" model building featuring winter and holiday themed models. 3D winter and holiday models and mosaics plus Chima Speedorz and LEGO Spinjitzus will add to the fun. Builders can watch a LEGO movie, create a holiday spin art craft and more. Bring them hungry... we will have pizza and Christmas cookies. With a variety of stations and activities, our event is great for LEGO fans 4*-12 years old, so leave them with us and enjoy a night out for dinner and a movie! January Healthy and Homemade “Healthy and Homemade” is a series of three fun nutrition classes for people who want to eat healthy and enjoy doing it! The classes are taught by Mary Krisco, MS, RD, a registered dietitian and Human Sciences Specialist for ISU Extension and Outreach. Session 1 - Veg Out!: Participants will assemble a delicious roasted vegetable dish; learn about all the ways vegetables can help them fight heart disease, diabetes and cancer; and strategize and set goals to increase their personal vegetable consumption. Session 2 - Slow Cooker Meals: Participants will gather for a cozy meal of slow-cooked chili and discuss the benefits of slow cookers for saving time, money and energy. They will learn how to avoid the most common food safety mistakes people make with slow cookers and go home with delicious, healthy recipes. Session 3 - Cooking for One or Two: This class is intended for people who find it hard to get motivated to cook at home when there are only one or two diners to feed. Participants learn ways to fix quick, easy, affordable and appetizing meals that will support their health. Compost It! Season Ends November 28th! Yard waste bags and bundles are collected from the curb weekly during Compost It! season. There are three options to use the Bags & Stickers Stickers can be purchased at City Hall or the Pleasant Hill Hy-Vee.

Bags • Cost: $8.00+tax for a bundle of five bags. • No sticker required. • The cost of the Compost It! bag covers the cost of collection. • Tip: Do not exceed 40 lbs. of weight per bag. 2. PLEASANT HILL PARKS & RECREATION Park Projects A new pergola swing will be constructed fall of 2018 at Copper Creek Lake Park. It will be located along the northeast side of the lake by the shoreline. This addition to our park is made possible by a significant donation from the Pleasant Hill Lions Club. The Pleasant Hill Lions Club is a local service organization committed to serving the community. Construction on a new batting cage begins this fall. After 20 years, the old batting cage had to be removed for safety reasons.This summer the Pleasant Hill Parks and Recreation and the Pleasant Hill Little League received funding through the Polk County Betterment Grant and the Prairie Meadows Betterment Grant to fund a new batting cage at Doanes Park. The batting cage will allow for more practice time for the League and will provide another great amenity for the community to use in Doanes Park. What is your cancellation policy? Programs, activities, and special events that are cancelled, postponed or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check Facebook or www.pleasanthilliowa. org for updates. We reserve the right to cancel a program or an activity that does not meet the minimum number if participants necessary to offer the program. If Southeast Polk Community Schools or Des Moines Public Schools are cancelled for the day, scheduled Parks and Recreation programs will be cancelled as well. What is your program refund policy? Refund requests must be made ONE WEEK prior to the first day of the program. Once the ONE WEEK deadline passes, refunds will not be issued. If the program is cancelled due to not meeting the minimum number of participants or due to weather a full refund will be given. What is your facility rental refund policy? The city does not honor refunds for cancellations for use of the shelters or youth center due to inclement weather. Cancellations must be made 30 days prior to the reserved date in order to receive a refund; less a $10 cancellation fee for shelters and a $50 cancellation fee for the Youth Center. There are no guarantees or refunds regarding the facility’s suitability to the event, including but is not limited to; parking, appliances, heating or cooling, electrical (such as access to power and/or blown circuit breakers) and water supply. Appeals for refund may be made to the Park & Recreation Commission. What is your photo/video policy? Teen Programs

Creative Kids Craft take place on Wednesdays at 4pm for Kindergarten – 5th grade. Preregistration is required. Participants must be able to work independently or bring a helper.

Youth Adventures, 1st Sunday of the Month, 2 - 4pm. Begins in October. Various topics and activities each month. Pre-Registration is required

Three story times are held each week as well as many special events throughout the year. ToddlerTime is now held on Tuesdays at 10:30am and Preschool Storytimes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am. New in September are Toddler Play Group times!

Scavenger Hunts are held on a monthly basis within the library. These are very popular with our younger patrons! The library’s annual Halloween Party is always a great time. Cosponsored with the Park and Rec department, several hundred ghosts and goblins descend on the Doanes Park Youth Center each year. This year’s party will be held Friday, October 19th from 6:30 – 8pm. During the Hill of Lights presentation, the library hosts Make and Take an Ornament. There are several great designs for ornaments for you to ‘make and take’. This year, Make and Take an Ornament will be on Sunday, December 2nd from 1 to 4 pm. During the past year, the Summer Reading Program had almost 1,000 participants! The Reading program is available for all ages and provides great opportunities for growth. Check it out in 2019! Many other special events are held each year for all ages. BEAR (Be Excited About Reading) Starting in January through the end of February, children can sign up for BEAR. They get a reading buddy at signup and can pick out a book to take home once their reading log is completed. Hundreds of readers participated last year! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed to encourage parents to read 1,000 books to children before they start school. This program helps children get off to a great start. Sign up and let us know your progress. Close to 200 children are already participating! Ticket to Read is for older children. Participants read from different genres to get their passports stamped. When completed, children get to select a book to take home. We provide programs for all ages throughout the year. Adult Programs

The book discussion group meets every month to discuss a different book. It’s always a lively discussion! Our BEST group (Bringing Education and Seniors Together) gives senior citizens the chance to sign up for chartered bus trips to locations throughout Iowa. Trips will begin in April of 2019. Each year, the library sponsors a holiday potluck for the BEST group. This year, the potluck will be held on Friday, November 16th at 12 noon. Adult education programs on a variety of subjects are offered at the library. Many programs are provided by the Adult Education department of the Des Moines Public Schools. The Summer Reading Program is available to adults as well! A drawing is held at the end of the program for a grand prize. Computer Instruction is available on a one to one basis. Let us help you improve your skills!

Library Services 18 computers are available for use in the library. We also provide access to iPads for library use and have wireless access for your devices. Do you belong to an organization or group and need a meeting space? We have rooms available free of charge for groups. Let us know and we will put your group on our schedule! PLEASANT HILL FIRE DEPARTMENT Staffing Changes

The Pleasant Hill Fire Department is making improvements to better serve the community. For the first time in the Department’s history, the Fire Station started operating with 24-hour staffing on August 1, 2018. Based on a large increase in service calls, the Fire Department increased to staffing the Fire Station 12-hours a day last year. The calls have continued to increase, making 24-hour staffing the logical next step in keeping our community as safe as possible.

New Fire Engine

A new fire engine joined the Pleasant Hill Fire Department in July 2018. This engine is betterequipped with emergency medical equipment and fire suppression equipment. These features make it more versatile for the calls it can respond. The new apparatus is replacing an 18-year-old fire engine that was so well-maintained it will be kept as a tanker truck for situations requiring additional water. See a fire truck with a spinning light on the front? That is the new fire engine.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Fire Pits & Recreational Burning - Enjoy Fall with SMORE'S Fires contained within approved containers shall be a minimum of 15 feet from any combustible buildings or materials.

Open flames shall be a minimum of 25 feet from any combustible building or materials. Fire shall be a maximum of 3 feet in diameter with a maximum flame height of 2 feet. Open fire in excess of 3 feet in diameter, or a flame higher than 2 feet shall be a minimum of 50 feet away from any combustible building or material. Fires shall be composed of natural kindling of trees and tree trimmings. No rubbish of any type or rubber tires shall be burned at any time. If conditions exist which would cause the fire to spread (winds, dry conditions), then open flames would be prohibited. Fires shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished. A minimum of one portable fire extinguisher with a minimum 4-A rating, or other approved on-site fire extinguishing equipment such as a bucket of dirt or sand, water barrel, garden hose or water truck, shall be available for immediate use.

Balconies and Decks No cooking devices are allowed on balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction. There is an exception to the rule, and that is if there is sprinkler protection provided on the balcony area. Buildings should not have any type of open flame on balconies or within 10 feet of the building. If a patio/deck is located on the ground floor, the grill may be moved 10 feet away and remain in compliance.

Yard Waste Yard waste, especially grass clippings, cannot be blown into City streets. Storm drains flow into pipes and drainage ways. When yard debris flows into the storm drain it gets clogged and will not allow water to pass. This causes flooding problems. It is against City ordinance to discard yard waste into streets to prevent these potential flooding issues.

How to Properly Dispose of Yard Waste

Every Wednesday through November 29th the Metro Waste Authority will pick up your yard waste. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, brush and garden waste. Here are some tips: Tip 1: Use a Compost It! bag or generic bag. If using a generic bag, pair it with a Compost It! sticker purchased from the Pleasant Hill Hy-Vee or City Hall. Residents can also obtain a Compost It! cart similar to you recycling cart, as a convenient alternative to bags. Learn more about cart service by calling City Hall at 515-262-9368. Tip 2: Ensure bags are visible with the label/sticker facing the street. It is recommended they are kept at least three feet from other carts. The Pleasant Hill Police Department would like to remind residents that it is imperative for the public to provide authorities with any information on persons, vehicles or activities, which may not necessarily constitute a crime, but are deemed suspicious and out of the ordinary. Always be vigilant and act as Pleasant Hill’s ears and eyes when you are out within your neighborhood or metro area communities. In Your Neighborhood Never spy on or pry into your neighbors' affairs or property, but do keep your eyes open, as you would in a neighborhood watch. Some things to be aware of: • Strange or abandoned vehicles on the side of the road. • Service vehicles in front of houses, where that type of service isn't taking place. • People you don't recognize hanging around your neighborhood for long periods of time. • People videotaping or using surveillance equipment like binoculars. • Unauthorized personnel around power lines, poles, transformer boxes, sewers, storm drains, gas lines or other utility equipment. In the Workplace If something doesn't look like business as usual, don't hesitate to check with your boss or security personnel. Some things to be aware of: • Packages, bags or boxes left unattended in public areas like a lobby or parking garage. • Unexpected or odd-looking packages mailed to your place of business. • People you don't recognize entering unauthorized areas. • Anyone tampering with surveillance cameras, safety systems, machinery or other sensitive equipment • Exposed wiring, leaks, strange smells or other signs of potential tampering. During Your Commute Stay alert around buses, bridges and roadways. If something doesn't look right, tell the nearest authority. Some things to be aware of: • Bags, boxes or other packages left unattended on buses. • Exposed wiring, leaks, strange smells or other signs of potential tampering on buses.

• People videotaping, sketching or taking notes on transit buses or around the facility. • People who stay at bus stations for long periods without getting on. Other Suspicious Activity • Strange vehicles left unattended near busy areas or under bridges. • Strange packages left unattended in malls, parking garages, stadiums, theaters or other crowded public places. • People wearing over-sized clothing for their body type or excessively bulky clothing in hot weather. • Anyone abandoning an item behind and leaving the area quickly. • People wearing a uniform, but not appearing to be involved in an appropriate activity. • People openly possessing a weapon or dangerous item. • Strange chemical smells.

Safe Winter Driving Tips

• Slow Down! Drive according to road and weather conditions. Remember, the posted speed limits are for ideal conditions and dry pavement. • Clear snow and ice from ALL windows and lights especially the hood and roof, before driving. • Leave plenty of room for stopping and brake early. It takes more time to stop when roads are wet, snow covered or icy. • Leave room for maintenance vehicles and snow plows - stay back at least 15 car lengths (200 feet), and don’t pass on the right. • Watch for icy surfaces on bridges as bridge decks will ice up first. • Pay attention to traffic up ahead. Actions by other drivers will and give you extra time to react and alert you to problems. • Semi’s or large trucks take longer to stop - don't cut in front of them. • Adjust to road conditions - the faster your vehicle is going, the more distance it will take to turn, slow, or stop. • Allow extra time. Give yourself extra time to reach your destination when roads may be slick. Consider delaying your trip. • Buckle your seat belt (It’s the law anyway). • Don't use your cruise control during winter conditions. Even roads that appear clear can have sudden slippery spots and the short touch of your brakes to deactivate the cruise control feature can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. • Know the current road conditions. We have 1 School Resource Officer at Southeast Polk High School and 1 School Resource Officer at Southeast Polk Junior High. We have 2 detectives, 1 of which serves on the FBI Cyber Task Force. We have 3 Patrol Sergeants, 9 full-time Patrol Officers, 2 part time Patrol Officers, one K-9 unit, 1 Captain, 1 Community Service Officer, 1 Police Administrative Aid, 7 Reserve Officers, and 1 Police Chief. Q: How does the Police Department work to positively impact the City of Pleasant Hill? A: We work cooperatively with our community and businesses to identify and resolve issues, to improve the quality of life within the residential and commercial areas within our city.

Community policing is a strategic response in the prevention, identification, and intervention of communit issues before they become bigger problems. Our Officers are encouraged to develop and maintain relationships with citizens, businesses, schools, and community organizations. Q: What is the biggest challenge the Pleasant Hill Police Department currently faces? A: Currently, our biggest challenge is our work space, meaning our Public Safety Building. We do not have the necessary space to house our current staff and are unable to hire additional officers even as the City of Pleasant Hill grows because we do not have enough space. Our residents expect the very best from their Police Department and our current facility makes it more difficult to provide the professionalism the community expects. Q: What is your favorite part about working in Pleasant Hill? A: Our residents! Our Department has a true partnership with our residents. The Police Department is very fortunate to have the support of our community. While I am out on patrol in the community residents wave hello and sometimes stop me to thank the Police Department for its work. During holidays and other special events, we receive food baskets from businesses and churches acknowledging the hard work of the men and women that make the Pleasant Hill Police Department. COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS Infrastructure Projects

S. Pleasant Hill Boulevard/Vandalia Road Intersection Improvement Project Project Description: The intersection improvement project will realign the intersection of South Pleasant Hill Boulevard and Vandalia Road and will raise the roadway out of the 500 year floodplain, consolidate two uncontrolled railroad crossings into one signalized crossing, add pedestrian improvements and trail and reconstruct the on-ramp to the Highway 65 bypass. The alignment of the intersection is set to align with the future connection of the Southeast Connector, locally known as Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Project Update: The project is expected to bid in Oct 2018. Estimated Cost: The estimated project cost for construction is over $10,000,000. Federal funds have been received to cost share construction in the amount of $7,900,000. Estimated Project Timeline: Project will be bid in October 2018 with approximately 18-month construction window.

NE 70th Street Reconstruction (including 400’ east of Meacham Dr) Project Description: NE 70th Street between University Avenue and NE Rising Sun Drive is currently undergoing a complete reconstruction to bring the road design to current safety standards. The reconstruction includes an intersection (roundabout) at NE 70th Street and NE Rising Sun Drive and is designed to eventually continue further south and create a new boulevard section which connects to SE 6th Avenue at SE 68th Street near Four Mile Elementary School. Pleasant Hill’s Public Arts Advisory Commission has contracted with the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation to assist with the process of hiring an artist and acquiring the City’s first piece of public art to be installed in the newly constructed roundabout. The Public Arts Advisory Commission received a $15,000 grant from Bravo Greater Des Moines toward this piece of art. Project Update: Construction of the roadway began June 5, 2018, with roadway construction anticipated to be substantially completed by December 1, 2018. Landscaping and finishing work will continue into the Spring of 2019. The artist selection process for the public art begins Fall 2018 with final artist selection occurring in Spring 2019 and installation in Summer 2019. Estimated Cost: $2,870,000 Contractor: Elder Corporation 31

COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS CONT. NE 60th Street/Morning Star Court Reconstruction Project Description: A redesigned intersection of NE 60th Street and University Avenue would improve safety and capacity through the intersection as well as add additional car stacking distance by relocating the intersection of NE 60th Street and Morning Star Court to the south. The intersection improvements would also add pedestrian accommodations. Estimated Cost: $2,720,000

Woodland Drive Construction (Connection from Pleasant Ridge Estates to SE 55th St) Project Description: The Pleasant Ridge Estates neighborhood located on Shadyview Boulevard currently only has one roadway access. To provide for increased accessibility for emergency services and residents, a new roadway has been designed which would connect from the east side of the subdivision to SE 55th Street named Woodland Drive. Project Update: The City is currently undergoing negotiations to acquire the necessary right-of-way needed to construct the new roadway. Anticipated construction 2019. Estimated Cost: $430,000

Park and Trail Projects

Hickory Glen Park Project Description: The City of Pleasant Hill purchased 77 acres of ground in 2015 southwest of Four Mile Elementary School for future parkland following a recommendation from the Comprehensive Plan and Parks, Trails and Open Space Plan. In 2016, the City hired Confluence Landscape Architects to complete a comprehensive Master Plan for the Park. Following adoption of the Master Plan, a contest was held to name the park ground by a local resident. Hickory Glen Park is designed to serve many users over many generations, and full build out is a long term process. The overall Master Plan construction is estimated to cost over $17,000,000. Project Update: Two contracts have been approved for park design. The initial contract is wrapping up completion and has conducted survey work, permitting, and research. The second contract includes the design of Phase 1 of the park including grading and utility work. Estimated Cost: Phase one will be refined following the completion of design and estimated to be around $2,000,000.

Youngstown Trail Project Description: Youngstown trail is a local trail network which provides a connection for residents to travel throughout the community and connect to over 600 miles of trails through the Central Iowa Trail Network via the Gay Lea Wilson Trail. Project Update: Phase II of Youngstown Trail which extends from the Gay Lea Wilson Trail at Parkridge Avenue and continues east to Pleasant Hill Boulevard has completed design which includes the trail and several storm water improvements. The City has acquired all necessary property and easement acquisition needed to construct the project. The City applied for grant funding through the Iowa Department of Transportation and any construction is pending the results of the funding application. Estimated Cost: $777,000 Estimated Project Timeline: Construction is anticipated to begin in 2019.

Regional Projects

Southeast Connector/Martin Luther King Jr Parkway Extension Project Description: The City of Pleasant Hill has been working with the City of Des Moines to plan, construct, and apply for funding for the Southeast Connector/Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway Extension as a transportation corridor connecting the Highway 5/65 Bypass to downtown Des Moines for over a decade. Project Update: The City of Des Moines completed a new section of the roadway to extend to 30th Street in 2016. The intersection improvements at Pleasant Hill Boulevard and Vandalia Road are designed to accommodate the future connection of the Southeast Connector. Due to federal funding requirements, no additional federal funds can be used to construct the project until at least 2021. Planning is still underway. Estimated Cost: The connection between 30th Street and the Pleasant Hill Intersection which spans through Des Moines and Pleasant Hill is anticipated to cost $40,000,000.

Water Trails Project Description: The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization received funding from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to develop a regional water trails plan. Now developed, the plan provides the region a road-map for enhancing citizen experiences in and along the waterways in Greater Des Moines. This study examines a list of recommended projects more closely and determines feasibility and estimated costs. The study is examining the Pleasant Hill Boat Ramp for potential improvements.

PUBLIC WORKS Snow and Ice Control Residents are required to remove snow and/or ice from the sidewalks in front of their property within 24-hours after the end of a snow event. Failure to remove the snow within the 24-hour time frame may result in the city removing the snow and/or ice and billing the homeowner for removal. Parking on all city streets is prohibited during a snow emergency. Snow emergencies are enacted when 2 or more inches of snowfall is forecasted. If a snow emergency is in effect there will be an alert on the City’s website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.

Responsibility of Property Owners BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR:

It is the responsibility of property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks promptly, creating a minimum 36” wide path. If the ice cannot be removed, it should be treated with sand, salt, or other non-slippery substance. If the sidewalk is not cleared, the City will advise tenants and property owners to keep sidewalks clean and clear. However, if this duty is neglected, the snow and ice will be removed at the cost of the owner. The City may also choose to issue a citation to the property owner in the amount of $30 for the first violation and $75 for each subsequent violation. Do not dump snow from your driveway and sidewalk in the street. Not only is it against City of Pleasant Hill Code of Ordinances, but

when the street snow plow comes, the snow from the street will land in the next open space, typically your neighbor’s driveway.

FIRE HYDRANTS

Residents are encouraged to keep a three foot clearance around fire hydrants to ensure they are accessible, in the event of a fire. If you do not have a hydrant in your yard, consider adopting one. This is a great way to ensure it is always clear during a snow event.

MAILBOXES

In order to ensure letter carriers are able to provide safe and timely mail delivery, clear enough snow from curbside boxes to allow mail trucks to approach the box, deliver the mail and to drive away from the box without danger of the need for backing. The carrier needs to get in, and then out, without leaving the vehicle or backing up.

PRIORITY SNOW ROUTE EXHHIBIT A

Priority Snow Routes

In order to make the most efficient use of available resources it is necessary to establish priority snow routes. These routes are determined by street classification and proximity to these higher classified roads (connector streets). These routes will be the priority for equipment operators when the snow starts to fall and will continue to be priority until the snow stops. Exhibit A, is a list of the priority snow routes, of this policy shows their location in relation to the entire city.

Snow Plowing The depth and timing of snow accumulations, along with traffic volumes, will normally dictate when snow removal operations begin. Removal will take place during a snow event as needed to keep accumulations on the pavement surface at a manageable level. It is likely that several passes will be made on most streets to clear accumulated snow from the roadway. Three Snow removal operations will start with equipment operators clearing snow from the major snow routes, outlined above. Once these routes are cleared, the equipment operations will move into the residential districts. Exhibit B shows the routes and districts divided up when three (3) equipment operators are being utilized, which is the standard procedure given the staffing resources the department currently has. Throughout the snow event staff will keep the south complex emergency service doors cleared of snow to provide access. Once the snow event has slowed or stopped, or prior to the opening of the public buildings, the Parkâ€™s staff will clear snow from the parking lots of the city complexes and youth center. Once these parking lots have been cleared, they will move to clearing snow from the cemetery, sidewalks and trails. Once the residential districts are complete, or substantially completed, available equipment operators will start to clear snow from the cul-de-sacs within the city. Removing snow in the cul-de-sacs could start earlier depending on available staff from the Public Works or Parks and Recreation Department.

Here Comes the Bus App Information

20 miles of bike trails and 200 acres of recreational space throughout the region and it’s easy to see that quality of life here is truly one of a kind. Our district serves more than 6,800 students from preschool through grade 12. Covering 114 square miles and serves the communities of Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Mitchellville, Runnells, Des Moines and surrounding areas. The central campus, consisting of the high school, junior high, sixth grade building, district office, bus maintenance facility, and buildings and grounds department – is located in the geographic center of the district, with eight elementary schools located throughout the district. We

Southeast Polk Community School District launches Here Comes the Bus, a user friendly tool allowing parents and authorized caregivers to view the real-time location of their child’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet or computer. This new electronic tracking device will show parents where their child’s bus is on a map, and allow students to accurately gauge just when their bus will arrive. All of the information is encrypted and protected so parents only receive information about the specific buses their children ride.

Transportation Director Dan Schultz explained the district’s roll-out plan involves activating two schools per month, with plans to have all schools utilizing the new tool by May. He said, “Adding schools in stages allows our bus drivers to ensure routing accuracy within the Here Comes the Bus system.” Schultz also emphasized the importance of ease of mind for our parents and student safety. He said, “A positive customer service experience with the safety and well-being of student riders is our goal with this program.”

• See the location of their child’s bus both before and after school pick-up • Confirm that their child’s bus has arrived at the bus stop, at school or both • Receive a push notification or email message when the bus is a certain distance from the bus stop Here Comes the Bus is powered by Synovia Solutions, makers of the GPS-tracking technology used by Southeast Polk Schools to increase safety and cost savings as it relates to our school bus fleet. Available in three languages (English, Spanish and French), the Here Comes the Bus app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

Our Chamber has worked very hard to follow a mission for you, your business, and our new incoming businesses. This is an indication of the effort we make to meet the needs of our business members and strengthen our business community. Trick-or-Treat Around the Lake Friday October 26th

Location: Copper Creek Lake Park | 5:30 - 7pm Trick or Treat Around the Lake is going on the second year in Pleasant Hill. Come out and meet your local businesses, bring your family to the lake and trick or treat. We will provide face painting, bouncy houses and plenty of fun for the whole family. Last yearâ€™s event was a huge hit for our community.

Elf on the Shelf- Social Media Business Hunt December 10th-December 21st, 2018

Location: All over Pleasant Hill and surrounding communities Join us on a social media business hunt with our Elf on the Shelve Phil Chamber. Phil will visit local businesses in Pleasant Hill and surrounding communities for a couple days. During his stay he takes pictures with clues and posts to the chamberâ€™s Facebook page. When you locate Phil, you also post to social media and you will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to all the participating businesses. We want you to shop local.
