Pleasant Hill is a young and vibrant community that is rapidly growing. Incorporated in 1956, the City now has more than 9,750 residents and a solid retail service base. This growth has been fueled by Pleasant Hill’s ideal location in the Des Moines Metro, its two strong school districts, and the quality of life that is afforded to its residents and businesses.

Ground transportation is easy in Pleasant Hill. The City resides at the intersection of US Highway 65 and Iowa Highway 163, providing uncongested and direct access to Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 and the rest of the metro. Residents also can ride Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) bus routes that cross and connect the entire metro.

Air travel is simple and convenient. Both the Des Moines International Airport and the Ankeny Regional Airport are only 15 minutes away.

The City further boasts a comprehensive trail network which allows residents and visitors access to community amenities and our ever-expanding parks and greenbelts without a motorized vehicle. The City has also implemented a Complete Streets policy, which enables safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders.

Pleasant Hill’s prime location allows community businesses to attract and draw qualified employees from all over Central Iowa with a warehouse and distribution labor pool of over 135,000 potential employees.

The City continues to invest in growth and redevelopment in the community and is committed to bringing new commercial services and businesses to Pleasant Hill, especially along the Highway 163 corridor. Just to the east of US Highway 65, there is currently more than 500 acres of land available along the Highway 163 corridor that is primed and ready for high-quality commercial and mixed-use development.
