The Community Development Corporation’s purpose is to promote projects to enhance the community and the citizens of Princeton.

The Community Development Corporation (CDC) was incorporated on July 3, 1997. The CDC is a Texas 4B sales tax corporation that is governed by a seven-member board appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the City Council. Funding for the CDC occurs by the City transferring ¼ sales tax revenues collected by the City of Princeton.

The City of Princeton Economic Development Corporation is comprised of seven Board Members and receives funds from a half-cent sales tax collected for economic development.

The purposes for which the Corporation is organized and may issue or incur bonds or other obligations on behalf of the City include the promotion, development, and expansion of commercial, industrial, manufacturing, and business enterprises to create jobs and also to promote and encourage employment and public welfare. The corporation owns a 108 acre Business Park zoned for industrial and business use, offering a prime location for business.

estled amongst pecan trees on historic Bridgefarmer Road in Lowry Crossing, the heart of Collin County, is 1845 Distilling Company and its sister company Christian Belle Winery.

Established in 2016 by the Petitt Family, today 1845 Distilling Company is arguably the most decorated distillery in Texas for 2023. This should be no surprise to anyone.

You see, before coming to Lowry Crossing, the Petitt’s developed and operated the Port Aransas Brewing Company from 2008 until they sold it late 2015. There they honed their craft of producing beer including the “art of fermentation.” Additionally, June and their son, Ben, won numerous amateur wine competitions including the “Best of Show” for the TV Munson Cup in 2017. Arguably the most prestigious amateur wine competition in the State.

Miguel Perez, the Petitt’s son-in-law, is the distiller. Miguel, as a trained chef, has developed a “nose” for barrel picks and blending barrels for bottling. He has completed numerous distilling courses at Moonshine University (yes, there is such a thing).

Moonshine U is the industry’s foremost school for craft distilling. They have classes on fermentation, nosing & blending, barrel aging, whiskey, rum, gin and numerous other distillation topics.

A brief history of Bridgefarmer Road In 1845, several years before Collin McKinney settled in the area, folks settled and received a land grant from the Republic of Texas for the land where the distillery sits today. It’s unclear if the dirt trail through the property at that time is near the current alignment of Bridgefarmer Road.

But what is known, according to the Bridgefarmer family, the Bridgefarmer’s settled in the area in the 1890’s and constructed the “Bridgefarmer House” in 1895. In addition to being a residence this home served as the area’s first hospital and telephone switch board. It still stands today near the Lowry Crossing City Offices.

“1845” pays tribute to the original settlers of the land. They were some of the last to receive their “Preemption” grant, mere days before the Republic of Texas became the State of Texas. The Petitt family itself has strong ties to Texas. With the birth of the youngest generation, the family is now in its eighth generation of native Texans.

“1845 Distilling is named for its Texas roots.”

The early days of the distillery Arguing over the style of bourbon to produce, the Family decided to produce the three most common styles and let their future customers decide. Thus, they began producing traditional, wheat and four grain bourbons. The first barrels (traditional style) were barreled on February 1, 2019.

That first year approximately 25 barrels of each style were produced. By 2021, production had increased to approximately 55 barrels of each style. Then COVID caused supply chain issues. Their barrel supplier cut them back to 70 barrels for the year of 2022. FYI, new charred oak barrels are required for bourbon. Otherwise, it’s a whiskey. Having filled all of the new barrels

by the end of Summer 2022, they decided to begin bottling and filled the emptied barrels with bourbon distillate knowing that someday it would be a whiskey instead of bourbon.

Fast Forward to 2023 In February 2023 the tasting rooms for 1845 Distilling and Christian Belle Winery opened. A short period later they began entering spirit competitions. By this time, all three bourbon styles had been bottled along with a few single barrels. Each of the products were entered into competitions.

The results were/are truly amazing. Thirty Five products were entered into competition and 32 awards were received. This includes a Top 3 Finalist in the prestigious San Franscisco World Wine and Spirits Competition for Best-in-Class Straight Bourbon in the World. While a 15-year Heaven Hill Bourbon took home the Award, being able to compete on the world stage, as a new distillery, is somewhat surreal.

Each of the three styles of bourbon has received a top medal in at least one of the 7 competitions that were entered. This includes winning the “Best Whiskey in Texas” by the American Craft Spirits Association Heartland Whiskey Competition.

The Family feels truly blessed.

The Tasting Rooms and Tours

Both Tasting Rooms are open Fridays from 4-7, and Saturdays from Noon – 5.

Distillery Tours are offered on Saturdays only. Visitors are provided a glimpse into the Bourbon production process.

Starting in the Barrel Barn, now housing over 500 barrels, you will be guided through a tasting directly from a barrel aged One Year, Two Years, and Three Years. A tour of the distillery itself follows, ending in the Tasting Room where finished products may be sampled and purchased. The Winery Tasting room similarly offers complimentary samples. Chilled bottles of wine are available for purchase so they can be enjoyed immediately with your favorite meal.

PRINCETON PATHWAY TO SUCCESS D

District provides programs to get students involved in meaningful activities that lead to opportunities upon high school graduation

espite the explosive growth in Princeton ISD, the district continues to focus its mission on inspiring and enabling each student to achieve their full potential. With this goal in mind, the district seeks ways to ensure every student has an opportunity to find their place.

“Princeton ISD prides itself in creating pathways for students to be successful,” Superintendent Donald McIntyre said. “We want our kids to find their passion, so the more opportunities they have, the more likely it is that they will find what interests them.”

Following this philosophy, the district has placed an emphasis on getting students involved, whether it’s academics, sports, extracurriculars or clubs.

PISD takes the same approach from kindergarten to 12th-graders that has led to the development of two key programs, which have notably become a valuable resource for the district’s high schoolers.

For more than seven years, Princeton ISD has worked alongside Collin College to assist students in obtaining a post-secondary education with the College Jump Start program.

Through the partnership, Princeton graduates can leave high school with an associate’s degree.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to help our students get a jump start on their college education,” Mr. McIntyre said.

The dual credit classes for Princeton students are fully funded by PISD, up to an associate’s degree.

“PHS graduates have the ability to enter college nearly two years ahead, which saves them thousands of dollars,” Mr. McIntyre said. “We are extremely proud of the College Jump Start program and what it offers our students.”

Along the same lines, the district’s CATE program has gained the attention of educators across the state.

Princeton ISD’s renowned CATE program boasts nearly 20 career options where students can receive valuable hands-on training and certifications that lead to further education or apprenticeships or

“Our CATE program offers courses designed to enhance student opportunities for post-secondary education or training in high-demand, high-growth and high-wage careers,” CATE Director Brett Hackman said.

“More than 1,400 students have earned industry-based certifications.”

Courses are offered in numerous fields, including animal science; automotive technology; audio/video production; computer science; construction trades; cosmetology; culinary arts; electrical technician; engineering; floral design; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; nursing; commercial photography; robotics; video game design and welding.

Some of the opportunities for CATE students include: -Participation in state and national competitions -Professional internships -Presentations by industry leaders -On-site training More than 45,000 square feet of educational space is dedicated to the enhancement of the CATE program.

“Students have access to state-of-theart facilities and equipment to simulate a professional workplace,” Mr. Hackman said.

CATE students appreciate the opportunities offered by the programs.

“It’s important to offer classes like floral design, because students are able to experience hands-on activities they may end of loving, which could turn into a career option,” advanced floral student Upneet Kaur said. “They could become a licensed florist to make it easier to get an interesting job right after graduation or use it as a part-time job to help pay for college.”

In addition to a varied curriculum designed to offer something for everyone, PISD makes sure the learning environment is conducive to a quality education.

With voter approval of a bond package in May 2023, a total of 10 additional campuses are scheduled to open over the next nine years. These facilities will provide space for the district to house the projected enrollment of 18,199 students by 2032.

“Our student population is expected to double over the next 10 years,” Mr. McIntyre said.

According to Mr. McIntyre, demographers projected Princeton ISD to have 9,537 students by Fall of 2024.

“For the 2023-24 school year, enrollments exceed 600 students in most grade levels, and we are nearing 700 students in some,” he said. “We are on pace with our demographer’s numbers, so we are right about where we expected.”

To complete the previous 2018 bond package, two campuses and an expansion will open in 2024.

Marcella Green Elementary will open in the White Wing Trails development near Monte Carlo and Longneck Road as the district’s seventh elementary school. In addition, Janice James Elementary School will also open and be adjacent to Mattei Middle School on County Road 728 near FM 546 and County Road 392.

To provide relief at the high school level, current construction at Lovelady High School will add a new academic wing to allow for the campus to transition to a 9thand 10th-grade center in Fall 2024, leaving only 11th- and 12th-graders at PHS. “Thanks to the continued support of our community, projects like the Lovelady expansion will help with overcrowding,” Mr. McIntyre said. “We currently have no empty classrooms at PHS, and we are close to 100 percent capacity at all campuses.”

School facilities are just one facet to help PISD maintain quality education for its students.
