A gift to the future

Empowering the next generation

Empowering women for more than 150 years

Presbyterian Ladies’ College has been at the forefront of educating Australian women since 1875.

PLC Old Collegians were amongst the first female doctors, dentists, lawyers and scientists in Victoria. Our graduates fought for political

representation, advocated for those without a voice, and rallied to serve those in need. They have earned international accolades as musicians, performers, writers, artists, and sportswomen.

‘‘

The scholarship allowed me to be among like-minded, aspirational girls, pushing my limits in a way I never could have imagined.”

A gift to PLC in your Will can help enable the College to continue to lead in educating young Australian students and thereby empower future generations of women.

You have the power to change lives

Our history contains many examples of Old Collegians, teachers and friends who have provided life-changing opportunities to PLC girls by leaving a gift in their Will.

Glenis M Payne’s (1954) bequest provides scholarships for regional students so they can experience all the opportunities of a PLC education. Girls from families with limited financial circumstances have opportunities to study at our school thanks to Gladys Thallon’s

‘‘

I wouldn’t have had the same learning opportunities if we’d continued our schooling in the small Victorian town where we grew up.

I think PLC has a unique learning environment, where girls are taught to work hard and dream big. I learned to take myself seriously there and to believe that I can be a woman who can make a difference in the world.”

(1948) bequest. A gift from Mary Stanton Meadley (1939), was used to refurbish the Science laboratories, benefiting every PLC girl.

You can have an enduring impact on future generations of PLC girls by leaving a gift to the College in your Will.

Ways you can have an impact

You can direct your gift to the following priority areas:

Scholarships and Student Support

Give young women from a variety of backgrounds the opportunity to experience a PLC education and explore their true potential.

Endowment and

Educational Excellence

Contribute to our endowment, which supports learning programs, staff development and other educational initiatives. Built by collective bequests, it generates income distributed annually.

Buildings and Learning Spaces

Help create the modern learning, sports, cultural and recreational environments PLC girls need to achieve their best.

There’s no greater gift than education. PLC has given me a career of pride and meaning, so it’s only fitting that I give back.”

Library and Learning Resources

Give the gift of knowledge. Empower girls to explore, imagine, and develop a lifelong love of learning through vibrant, well-resourced libraries.

Writing your Will

We encourage you to consult with your loved ones and seek independent legal advice when preparing or updating your Will. Doing so helps ensure your wishes are articulated clearly and can be carried out as you intend when it comes into effect.

You may choose to leave a percentage of your estate, a specific amount or particular assets, or a proportion of the remainder of your estate after expenses are paid.

It can be very helpful to have a confidential conversation with PLC’s Advancement Office to ensure your wishes and intention can be fulfilled, and to ensure that your bequest will have the impact that you intend.

We are happy to provide more information and suggested wording for a gift in your Will, or a codicil, to assist you and your legal advisor in this process.

Working in the not-for-profit field, I’ve seen how powerful bequests can be, how they can provide transformative gifts that can enable an organisation to achieve visionary goals.”

Honouring your gift - the Vitae Circle

Once you have decided to leave a bequest to Presbyterian Ladies’ College, you will become a member of the Vitae Circle. The Vitae Circle, (translated as ‘life circle’ or ‘circle of life’), honours those who have chosen to support the College directly through a gift

in their Will. Members of the Vitae Circle share a unique bond and are part of a warm caring group of individuals who want to contribute to the future of the College and ensure PLC remains one of Australia’s most prominent schools for girls and young women.

If you are comfortable advising us that you have included PLC in your Will, please let us know so we can keep you up to date with Vitae Circle events and news.

“Lex dei vitae lampas” The law of God is the lamp of life
