n event that is essential to take stock of the situation of coin-op gaming in Italy and to see the signs of renewal for the whole gaming world from a production, marketing and legislative point of view.

Enada Primavera (Spring) confirmed itself in this role and as the most important gaming expo in Southern Europe with its 28th edition, which took place on March 16th through to 18th in 4 halls of the Rimini Fairgrounds.

ENADA PRIMAVERA 2016: IL GAMING SI MOSTRA, RIFLETTE E PARLA Un appuntamento fondamentale per tastare il polso all’automatico italiano e cogliere i segnali di rinnovamento dell’intero mondo del gioco, sia sul piano produttivo che commerciale e normativo. Così si è confermata la 28sima edizione di Enada Primavera, la fiera del gaming più importante del Sud Europa, svoltasi dal 16 al 18 marzo scorsi presso quattro dei padiglioni della fiera di Rimini.

“Per quest’edizione tra conferme e new entry si può parlare di una vera scommessa delle aziende sullo sviluppo del settore” ha detto il presidente di Rimini Fiera Lorenzo Cagnoni. “Sul fronte espositivo quest’anno il salone ha registrato l’incremento della partecipazione straniera, sia fra gli espositori che i visitatori. In fiera tutti i principali player, dai concessionari alle imprese di servizio, si sono proposti con stand di grande pregio che hanno definito un ottimo impatto generale a favore dei visitatori”. It is a sign of the times, probably, and even the most nostalgic people will have to get used to it.

tive that regulate it. What is happening – the sector’s key players voiced loudly – is undermining a trade chain made up of 5,000 enterprises and a workforce of 300,000, which, with revenue of over 84 billion euros, guarantees the government tax takings of 11.5 billion euros per year.”

Over the event’s 3 days, several conferences were also offered, on the topics of greatest current interest for the gaming world.

Subjects included compulsive gaming, machines without cash prizes, arcade intervention strategies, online gaming and betting and how they are affecting the gaming offer in Italy.

Diversi gli appuntamenti convegnistici, nei tre giorni di fiera, che hanno affrontato gli argomenti di più stretta attualità per il mondo dei giochi. Si è parlato di ludopatia, di apparecchi senza vincita in denaro e di strategie di intervento sulle sale giochi, così come anche di gaming online e di betting e di come questi stanno modificando l’offerta di gioco italiana.

Enada also hosted 2 sports tournaments: the Spring Pinball Tournament, dedicated to competitive pinball, and the Enada Table Soccer Doubles Tournament. For both events, organizers were satisfied with participation levels.

The main tournament was won

by Pablo Iacoponi from Pisa, followed by Gabriele Tedeschi from Rome and Adriano Zingarini from Perugia, while the two side tournaments were won by Joel Wozniak from Belgium and Matteo Filippin from Padua.

Another sports tournament was the table tennis double tournament promoted by UISP-Rimini Committee, with no less than 42 participating teams. It was won by local duo Mattia Tosi and Angelo De Candia from San Mauro Pascoli (FC), who thus gained access to the Italian doubles championship. n In fiera non sono nemmeno mancati gli appuntamenti sportivi. Si è infatti svolto il tradizionale Spring Pinball Tournament, torneo di flipper sportivo promosso da IFPA Italia in collaborazione con Tecnoplay e Stern Pinball che quest’anno ha visto trionfare nel torneo principale Pablo Iacoponi di Pisa – davanti al romano Gabriele Tedeschi e al perugino Adriano Zingarini – e nei due tornei satelliti il belga Joel Wozniak e il padovano Matteo Filippin.

Altro torneo sportivo è stato quello di biliardino a coppie, promosso da UISP-Comitato Rimini, e che ha visto la partecipazione di ben 42 squadre.

Ad aggiudicarselo una coppia della zona, Mattia Tosi e Angelo De Candia di San Mauro Pascoli (FC), che con questo risultato si sono così guadagnati l’accesso ai campionati italiani a coppie. o

here is more t h a n just one SpiderMan. Over the years, the beloved Marvel character has undergone a number of

changes and taken part in a number of different, and even diverging, storylines. So there is really nothing strange in Stern Pinball wanting to represent part of this diversity through their own machines.

And yet, it was a surprise. In January 2016, the world’s oldest and largest producer of arcade-quality pinball machines announced the release of its Spider-Man Vault Edition pinball machine. As with all the Vault Edition machines, this is a remodel of a classic pinball from the Stern archive. The surprise? It’s in how much the new machine is different from its

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Di Spider-Man non ce n’è uno solo.

Negli anni, l’amatissimo personaggio Marvel è cambiato diverse volte ed è stato protagonista di molte storie diverse, anche discordanti. Perciò non è affatto una sorpresa che anche Stern Pinball voglia rendere omaggio a questa diversità nei suoi flipper.

Eppure è stata una sorpresa. A gennaio 2016, il più antico e più grande produttore di flipper per sale giochi ha annunciato il lancio del modello Spider-Man Vault Edition. Come per tutte le macchine della serie Vault Edition, si tratta di un remake di un flipper classico degli archivi Stern. La sorpresa sta in quanto il nuovo flipper si discosti dalla versione originale.

Nello specifico, il nuovo prodotto è stato modificato in modo da allontanarsi dal film del 2002 a cui era ispirato e per prendere invece il marchio dell’universo ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’, una serie a fumetti pubblicata da Marvel Comics tra il 2000 e il 2009 nella quale la storica franchise Marvel dedicata a SpiderMan si reinventa e si modernizza.

Questa scelta ha comportato la necessità di rimuovere tutti i contenuti audio e grafici relativi al film che

More specifically, the machine was re-branded to move away from the 2002 movie it was based on and into the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ universe – a comic book series published by Marvel Comics from 2000 to 2009, which is a modernized re-imagining of Marvel’s long-running SpiderMan comic book franchise.

This change meant removing all movie audio and graphics assets that were present on the original Spider-Man pinball, and while the gameplay remains the same, the changes were deepreaching. From a visual point of view, the all-new art package based on images from the actual Marvel ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ comics library includes new art for the cabinet, backglass, decals and playfield, new custom-molded toys specifically designed and decorated (representing Doc Ock, Sandman, Venom and Green Goblin), as well as new animation and dot matrix video art. Audio changes include all-new custom speech and sound effects for all characters, as well as 2 new music tracks, which add to the original score. The cabinet itself was redesigned and now features a webslinger-themed laser-cut side armor in black powdercoat with contrasting color inserts.

Numerous other improvements were implemented based on research on the original game.

These are not connected to the game’s theme but meant for durability and include stainless steel and steel plastic protectors, stainless steel ball guides, improved ramp guards, optimizations to the design, improved ramp mounting details and an all-LED playfield lighting.

“Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most popular characters worldwide. Our goal was to take one of our most popular games and make it even better,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc. “Stern Pinball and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of collaboration. This is a great pinball interpretation of the adventures of Spider-Man.”n

Per quanto riguarda l’audio, i cambiamenti includono nuove battute e nuovi effetti sonori

per tutti i personaggi, come pure due brani musicali nuovi che vanno ad aggiungersi alla colonna sonora originale. Anche il mobile è stato ridisegnato e ora presenta sui lati un’armatura verniciata a polvere nera con inserti tagliati al laser in colori contrastanti, il tutto tematizzato in riferimento all’Uomo Ragno.

nada Primavera 2016, with more than 26,000 visitors, reconfirmed its place as the leading gaming trade show in southern Europe. The numbers prove another success. From the inside however, what was the climate among the operators?

“The trade show opened in a climate of pessimism, the news introduced in the Budget on paragraph 6 machines and the stagnation in issuing regulations on paragraph 7 machines were not encouraging. Perhaps this lack of expectation now allows us to say that the exhibition was positive. At our stand, machines with prizes and ticket redemptions were not very gratifying, however there was a lot of interest in simulators, thanks to the presence of Moto GP and Jurassic Park, which undoubtedly represent the best products currently on the market. Sincerely I can say that we ended the 3 days with a positive trend compared to other years.”

Is there renewed interest in investing among potential buyers?

“The good results of the trade show may lead us to believe that things are picking up, but personally I believe that it was simply a combination of positive factors. The arrival of good simulators that offer a good quality/performance to cost ratio led to this result, yet the upturn is still some way off. The narrowing of margins and the arrival of mini-VLT that may revolutionise the market again, could force some operators of paragraph 6 machines to invest in pure entertainment again.”

Gathering the impressions of visitors, we heard may complain about the increasingly reduced space given to the amusement only sector compared to slot machines, VLTs, online gaming, betting and so on. An unavoidable situation, in your opinion?

“This situation is a result of the sums involved. There are increasingly less profitable pure entertainment locations, high attendance and fast changeover are needed to pay back machines and investments in the shortest possible time. The average spending by Italians on paragraph 6 machines is much higher, the subjects are completely different PLAY MACHINE EUROPE 4 - 2016

GOOD… NO, QUITE GOOD… NO… and now families are suffering from the restrictions due to the crisis and tightening their belts when it comes to entertainment.”

The hot topics at the conferences included i consigli the strategies regarding games arcades and machines without cash payout. Did any interesting reflections or initiatives emerge?

“We are continuing our battle through the trade associations, lawyers and operators whose livelihood depends on this industry in order to gain greater attention. Our first objective is to be placed outside of the con-

trol of the State Monopolies, which has many other problems to deal with in the sector of machines with cash payout. With the arrival of mini VLTs that will di Roberto revolutionise the sector once again, it will be hard to find the time to care for the small segment of pure entertainment machines. We hope that a Ministry or other government department will take this segment under its control so as to finally have the legislative changes needed that can let us get back to work and help families have fun and meet at our centres.”n

Raccogliendo le impressioni dei visitatori, abbiamo sentito in più di qualcuno il dolersi dello spazio sempre più ridotto che ha l’amusement rispetto a slot, Vlt, online gaming, betting e compagnia bella. Una contrazione inevitabile, secondo lei?

“Questa situazione è legata ai valori in gioco. Le location di puro intrattenimento remunerative sono sempre meno, sono necessari dei flussi di persone sempre più importanti e grande ricambio per ammortizzare macchine e investimenti nel più breve tempo possibile. La spesa media dell’italiano per il comma 6 è incredibilmente maggiore, i soggetti sono completamente diversi e ormai la famiglia soffre della ristrettezza data dalla crisi e riduce il budget destinato al divertimento”.

Tra gli argomenti caldi dei convegni in fiera, c’è stato anche quello delle strategie di intervento sulle sale giochi e gli apparecchi senza vincita in denaro. Ne sono emerse riflessioni o iniziative interessanti?

Con l’arrivo delle minivlt che rivoluzioneranno ancora una volta il settore, difficilmente troveranno il tempo per curare quel piccolo orticello che sono le macchine di puro intrattenimento.

Speriamo che un Ministero o un qualsiasi altro organismo governativo prenda sotto la sua competenza questo ramo del settore per arrivare finalmente a un adeguamento normativo che ci permetta di tornare a lavorare per far divertire ed incontrare le famiglie nei nostri centri”. q

BENE… ANZI BENINO…ANZI… Enada Primavera 2016, con i suoi oltre 26 mila visitatori, si è riconfermata come la fiera leader del Sud Europa per il settore del gaming. I numeri dipingono l’ennesimo successo. Vissuto da dentro, il clima tra gli operatori del settore com’era?

“La fiera ha aperto i battenti con parecchio pessimismo, le novità della Finanziaria legate al comma 6 e la stagnazione della regolamentazione sul comma 7 non erano incoraggianti. È stata forse questa mancanza di aspettative che ora ci fa dire che è stata una fiera positiva. Al nostro stand, il comparto operazioni a premio e ticket redemption non ha dato molte soddisfazioni, ma vi è stato molto interesse per i simulatori grazie alla presenza di Moto GP e Jurassic Park che rappresentano indubbiamente i migliori prodotti attualmente sul mercato.

Sinceramente posso dire che abbiamo chiuso questi tre giorni in controtendenza rispetto agli altri anni”.

Sta quindi risalendo la propensione a investire da parte dei potenziali buyer?

“La buona riuscita della fiera può far pensare che ci sia una ripartenza, ma personalmente credo che sia solo una congiunzione di fattori positivi. L’arrivo di buoni simulatori che combinano tra loro un ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo/performance ha portato a questo risultato ma la ripresa è ben lontana. Il restringersi dei margini e l’arrivo delle minivlt che potrebbero rivoluzionare nuovamente il mercato potrebbero spingere qualche operatore del comma 6 ad investire nuovamente nel puro intrattenimento”.
