varie nazioni come la ben nota Slot Academy, o ancora Casino Marketing Masterclass, Game Development Academy, Lottery Academy e Sports Betting Academy. Direttore e formatore della VLT Academy sarà Marcello Cascone, professionista delle sale da gioco (inizia a Bristol nel 1998 come croupier) e fondatore nel 2007 della Gaming School di Torino, che offre formazione per il personale

dei casinò e noleggio giochi e sale per eventi.

Durante le tre giornate verranno toccati temi di marketing, formazione dello staff e tecniche gestionali, fornendo ai partecipanti strumenti per sfruttare appieno le potenzialità di una sala Vlt. he 44th edition of ENADA Roma, SAPAR’s international amusement & gaming trade show organized by Rimini Fiera, will be held once again at Fiera di Roma (Rome Expo Center) from 4th to 6th October. The event will then run from Tuesday to Thursday this year too, following the good feedback in 2015 from trade visitors, who prefer to concentrate their business meetings on weekdays.

Unlike last year, however, the expo will be held in Hall 1, the closest to the East entrance: a choice that will further facilitate attendees’ arrival.

president Raffaele Curcio hopes that “steps will be taken to safeguard the trade chain and legality. In fact, at this point, the main urgency regarding gaming is for the Government to take a stand regarding regional and municipal laws that are only affecting one type of gaming. We firmly hope the State will take action, as it is not even possible to organize tenders for the renewal of existing licences. The idea of eliminating slot machines from bars and tobacco shops and only installing them in gaming rooms makes no sense: hiding the machines in enclosed locations would risk paving the way for an illegal market; in fact the municipalities that are particularly restrictive are already forced to face the spreading of illegal games and totems.” n

ENADA ROMA, EDIZIONE 2016: FISSATE LE DATE La 44esima edizione di Enada Roma, la Mostra Internazionale degli Apparecchi da Intrattenimento e da Gioco di Sapar, organizzata da Rimini Fiera, si terrà presso la Fiera di Roma dal 4 al 6 ottobre. Un martedì, mercoledì e giovedì i giorni scelti, quindi, esattamente come nel 2015, e questo per andare incontro ai desideri del pubblico professionale che ha mostrato di preferire concentrare i business meeting nei giorni feriali.

Diversamente dall’anno scorso, invece, la manifestazione si terrà nel Padiglione 1 della Fiera, ossia in quello più vicino all’ingresso Est che dovrebbe quindi rivelarsi anche più favorevole all’afflusso dei visitatori.

In questi mesi che ci separano dall’appuntamento romano, da sempre momento di confronto e dialogo fra tutti gli attori del gaming, l’auspicio del presidente Sapar, Raffaele Curcio, è che “si riesca a compiere un passo avanti a tutela della filiera e della legalità. In questo momento, infatti, l’urgenza principale nei confronti del gioco è una presa di posizione da parte del Governo rispetto alle leggi regionali e comunali che stanno colpendo una sola offerta di gioco. Auspichiamo un intervento dello Stato, visto che non si possono neppure fare i bandi di gara per rinnovare le concessioni esistenti”. E ha proseguito Curcio: “L’idea di eliminare le slot dai bar e tabacchi per destinarle alle sole sale è ipocrita: nascondere gli apparecchi in ambienti chiusi rischierebbe di spianare la strada al mercato illegale; infatti i Comuni con norme particolarmente restrittive stanno già facendo i conti con il dilagare dell’offerta illecita e dei totem”. o

y describing it as a centre with 20 lanes, King Torino may seem a little anachronistic nowadays. However on visiting the centre you realise that the large number of lanes is always busy, as is the mix of other leisure proposals that the owners have gradually added over the years to the original nucleus dating back to 1997, to the point where today it can be defined as a wonderful entertainment centre for the entire family.

“Nowadays there are very few bowling centres that still have 20 lanes,” explained Enzo Zammuto, since 2008 communication and human resources manager at King Torino. “It is quite difficult to manage, however with the commitment of everyone involved we are able to keep it full of customers at all times. One successful idea was to hire an activity leader in 2009.

Since then we have always had one working at the centre.”

SUA MAESTÀ …KING TORINO Dicendo che ha ben 20 piste, il King Torino potrebbe suonare come un centro anacronistico al giorno d’oggi. Basta però frequentarlo e ci si rende conto che quelle piste saranno pure tante, ma lavorano sempre e bene, così come funziona il mix di altre proposte ricreative che la proprietà ha via via aggiunto negli anni al nucleo originario risalente al 1997, arrivando così oggi a quello che può essere definito un bel centro divertimenti per tutta la famiglia.

“Oggigiorno sono pochissimi i bowling in cui troviamo ancora 20 piste” ci ha spiegato Enzo Zammuto, dal 2008 responsabile della comunicazione e della gestione del personale del King. “Gestirle è davvero difficile e impegnativo, ma devo dire che

“The activity leader does a great job in getting players interested, for example by creating challenges between the different lanes. They do this not only when there are groups from birthday parties but also with players that don’t know each other. This is why this role has been a constant feature for some time now: they are here every day, even on Sunday if there are book-

ings. Moreover, to keep the lanes ‘alive’ we also host national tournaments (and we even have our own team) and other competitions for beginners, with small prizes available for the winners.”

So how big is the centre and how is it set out?

“Overall it covers 7,000sq.m.

On the top floor there is a slotVLT room covering 400sq.m, accessed only by adults on showing proof of identity. Then there is the 400m long go-kart track, also accessed from the top floor, yet occupying both floors of the centre.”

Was the track added subsequently, or was it also installed back in 1997?

“It was introduced in 2005, and provides 8 go-karts.

Being on 2 floors, the circuit has climbs and descents that make it unique and highly entertaining. The track is available not only to teens and adults. For children 9 years old and over, who want to try the experience, 3 times a week we organise lessons held by expert instructors, who teach the basics for driving on a track. In addition, increasingly frequently there are booking in the evenings from local companies that use the track as a chance to build team spirit between employees.”

You mentioned birthday parties. How are these organised?

“Our pizzeria & restaurant is perfectly equipped to host parties. Our most popular package includes a pizza and a drink, a game of bowling and 4 tokens for the games arcade. To ensure a quality service, even if the area can host 120 people, we accept bookings for up to 80 people so that we can serve customers more quickly.

Recently the bar has also been extended outside, with an area where those who don’t want to play or who want a breath of fresh air can sip a drink and chat to friends.”

Do you use social media and digital tools in your marketing?

“Yes, quite a lot, we deal with all our contacts through a website and social media, providing regular information on the various events at the centre. We have around 11,000 likes on our fan page and 8,500 registered recipients of our newsletter.”

“Complessivamente occupa 7 mila metriquadri. Al piano terra ci sono le piste, un bar-pizzeria da 120 coperti, un’area videogiochi, ping-pong e calcetti, e la sala biliardi con ben 17 tavoli. Al piano superiore, c’è invece una

sala slot-Vlt di 400mq a cui si accede solo esibendo un documento di identità che dimostri la maggiore età. E poi c’è la pista go-kart lunga 400m a cui si entra dal piano superiore, ma si estende su tutti e due i piani”.

La pista è stata aggiunta in un secondo tempo o risale anch’essa al 1997? “È stata introdotta nel 2005, e mette a disposizione otto vetture.

Essendo su due piani, il circuito ha dei saliscendi che lo rendono unico e divertente. La pista è fruibile non solo da ragazzi e adulti. Per i bambini

Assieme alle piste, è la pista go-kart l’altra attrazione di punta del King. È stata introdotta nel 2005 e consiste in un tracciato di 400m che si sviluppa su 2 piani per cui pieno di saliscendi che movimentano la corsa. Per i bambini vi si tengono anche dei corsi preparatori alle corse.

Anything else to add?

“I should stress that at King Torino, both during the day and in the evening, we always have security personnel on duty.

We decided to add this service above all for families with kids and teens who are our guests and who thus know they can let their children freely use the centre without fear.

Even in the parking area we provide surveillance for our visitors and their cars.”

How is business?

“Thanks to all our initiatives, today the centre is in the black. The owners have invested a lot in the business, confident of the fact that by running it in a certain way, even when the economy is not good, there is still the chance to be successful.” n attrezzato in questo senso e il pacchetto che prevede pizza con bibita, partita a bowling e quattro gettoni per la sala giochi è sempre più richiesto. Altro da aggiungere?

“Mi sembra importante far sapere che al King, sia di giorno che di sera, c’è del personale di sicurezza che opera. Abbiamo voluto dare questo servizio pensando soprattutto alle famiglie con bambini e ragazzi che sono nostri ospiti e che quindi sanno

di poter lasciare ai loro figli la libertà di girare per il centro senza timore alcuno. Anche nell’area parcheggio abbiamo le dovute accortezze per i nostri visitatori e le loro auto”.

Un bilancio dell’impresa?

“Con tutte le sue iniziative oggi il nostro centro è in positivo. Non nascondo che la proprietà ha sempre investito molto e soprattutto di tasca propria, fiduciosa del fatto che lavorando in un certo modo anche nei momenti di crisi economica generale ci sono buoni margini per avere delle gratificazioni”. o

NEW BOWLING CENTERS TO OPEN IN CHINA

US-based bowling center operator Uptown Alley is expanding its bowling entertainment and dining concept to China. Next September, an Uptown Alley location will open at the Global Harbor Mall in Changzhou, about 180km from Shanghai. It will house 37 lanes, the most of any bowling alley in China, as well as entertainment, a large arcade, 2 dining areas, 3 bars, more than 100 HD video monitors, a children’s play area and private event spaces. Bowling equipment and scoring systems will be provided by Brunswick Bowling. Uptown Alley plans to add 14 more facilities in China within the next 5 years.

NUOVI BOWLING IN CINA

L’operatore statunitense di bowling Uptown Alley si sta espandendo in Cina. A settembre, aprirà infatti un suo locale all’interno del Global Harbor Mall di Changzhou, a circa 180km da Shanghai. Il bowling avrà 37 piste (un numero da record per la Cina) e

poi intrattenimenti, una grande sala giochi, due aree ristorazione, tre bar, oltre cento monitor HD, un’area bimbi e sale per eventi privati. Scoring e attrezzature gioco saranno forniti da Brunswick Bowling.

Nei progetti di Uptown Alley questo bowling sarà il primo di una lunga serie: altri 14 locali sono infatti previsti nell’arco dei prossimi cinque anni.

On June 10 Lucky Strike, which owns 17 locations in the USA, is opening an FEC in Albany (New York). Covering some 5,000sq.m inside Crossgates Mall, Lucky Strike Social Albany will house 18 bowling lanes, 2 restaurants with customers ordering their food on tablets at the tables, a bar, and rooms for private parties. Other amenities include a redemption arcade area and a 900-seat auditorium for live music performances.

s we have already reported in the March issue, according to many experts 2016 will be a revolutionary year for the gaming and entertainment industry as a whole. The name of this revolution is Virtual Reality (VR). The VR industry is making great strides in terms of advances in technology, radically lower costs and as a consequence also the number and quality of VR products placed on the market are growing.

This summer many parks around the world are adding RV to refresh some of their rides (such as coasters) or to liven up edutainment experiences and make them more immersive and engaging. The very first RV entertainment centers have also started to open, although it remains uncertain if, how and when RV will be a permanent feature in games

Bandai Namco, the Japan-based arcade, mobile and home video game publisher is however already gearing up, or rather is seeking the feedback from players on their VR developments to exploit it for future gaming projects.

In mid-April, the Japanese company opened VR Zone: Project i Can, an all VR arcade in Tokyo Plaza, where guests have the chance to test first hand the new technology through various games ranging from horror experiences to driving a train, from entering the cockpit of a giant robot and taking control of it, up to sports experiences or a test of courage where you have to rescue a kitten on a plank hanging in space.

Admission to VR Zone is by appointment only and the center will remain open until mid-October. n

Bandai Namco apre un centro temporaneo e sperimentale di RV a Tokyo

PROVE DI REALTÀ VIRTUALE Come abbiamo già avuto modo di scrivere nel marzo scorso, il 2016 sarà, secondo l’avviso di molti esperti, un anno rivoluzionario per il settore del gaming e dell’entertainment più in generale. E a generare la rivoluzione sarà la realtà virtuale (RV), la cui industria sta facendo passi da gigante in termini di tecnologia disponibile, abbassamento dei costi e quindi anche quantità e qualità dei prodotti immessi sul mercato.

In effetti in molti parchi del mondo da questa stagione si segnala la presenza della RV come strumento vuoi per rinfrescare attrazioni meccaniche (come i coaster) o per vivacizzare esperienze di edutainment che diventano così più immersive e coinvolgenti. Sono nati anche i primi tentativi di centri divertimenti focalizzati unicamente sulla RV, anche se non è ancora chiaro se, come e quando questa potrà approdare in pianta stabile nelle sale giochi.

C’è comunque chi come Bandai Namco si sta già attrezzando, o meglio sta sperimentando quale può essere il feedback dei suoi player così da sfruttarlo per futuri progetti.

What better way is there to use Virtual Reality than to let audiences inhabit the stories they love? VR firm THE VOID have recently announced their cooperation with Sony Pictures on Ghostbusters: Dimension, a VR experience based on the new Ghostbusters movie being released this summer, that will open on July 1 at Madame Tussauds New York. This marks THE VOID’s very first experience to open to the public.

Audiences will experience what it is like to be a Ghostbuster, tracking and trapping a supernatural foe through a New York apartment complex in an immersive environment that combines physical props and sets, real-time interactive effects, and breathtaking VR technology.

VIRTUAL REALITY TOGETHER WITH ESCAPE ROOM

Virtual reality and escape room, trending topics in the leisure industry, come together at the end of this month in England. Lincoln company Tension Virtual Reality, is set to launch an amusement centre dedicated to VR, which will host 5 escape rooms on the ground floor. In one of these, for example, players will be challenged to solve puzzles to find out who stole the Magna Charta, and in doing so, will learn a lot about this important document dating back to the 13th century to which Lincoln is affiliated, seeing that the city preserves one of only 4 extant copies.

On the top floor, guests will find 4 additional rooms dedicated to virtual reality using Vive HTC headsets. At certain times and days, the rooms will be available to children with autism or ADHD, thus disclosing VR’s therapeutic potential.

REALTÀ VIRTUALE ED ESCAPE ROOM INSIEME

Realtà virtuale ed escape room, argomenti di tendenza oggi nel leisure, si uniscono alla fine di questo mese in Inghilterra. A Lincoln, la società Tension Virtual Reality, apre infatti un centro divertimenti dedicato alla realtà virtuale che al piano terra ospiterà anche cinque escape room. In una di queste, per esempio, i giocatori saranno chiamati a risolvere degli enigmi per scoprire chi ha rubato la Magna Charta, e nel farlo impareranno molto circa quest’importante documento risalente agli inizi del XIII secolo a cui Lincoln è legata visto che ne conserva una delle sole quattro copie tuttora esistenti.

“The team that manages customer reception and service in a games room or FEC must be dynamic, and have a strong sense of belonging and involvement in the business.

This means that guests will feel that all their needs are being taken care of. A smile and a kind manner are fundamental.

Within the team, tasks need to be clearly and precisely divided between staff members: manager, event organiser, activity leader who looks after customers during events, etc.”

“This business is a school of life. Taking risks in terms of innovation may be positive but at times may not be repaid by the public. Quanto pesa nel successo di un locale l’attenzione al cliente da parte del personale?

“Il team che gestisce l’arrivo, l’accoglienza e il servizio ai clienti della sala o del Fec deve essere dinamico, e avere un senso di forte appartenenza e coinvolgimento nelle attività del locale. Ciò fa sì che gli ospiti si sentano coccolati e assecondati in tutte le loro necessità.

Un sorriso e un modo di fare gentile sono fondamentali. Nel team è inoltre necessario che la suddivisione dei compiti sia precisa e chiara a tutto il personale: direttore di sala, organizzatore di eventi, animatore che coinvolge i clienti durante le manifestazioni, eccetera”.

Altra questione: sapersi mettere in discussione e imparare dai propri errori.

“Questa è un po’ una scuola di vita. Prendersi dei rischi a livello di innovazione può essere positivo ma talvolta può anche non ripagare in

termini di pubblico. Ad ogni modo, io credo che se si vuol migliorare il locale e se stessi vada messo in conto che si può incappare anche in qualche sbaglio. Gli errori (se non eccedono) devono essere sempre accettati perché se ne può trarre un insegnamento per incrementare le proprie conoscenze e competenze arrivando così a ottenere via via risultati sempre migliori”.

Social media: quali istruzioni per l’uso?

“La presenza sui social media è una lama a doppio taglio: da un lato è un potentissimo strumento di marketing, dall’altro si corre il rischio che qualcuno pubblichi giudizi negativi. D’altro canto, nei locali di una certa grandezza può essere difficile, nei momenti di maggiore afflusso, seguire ciascun cliente passo passo e quindi, la gestione delle criticità, può risultare non sempre tempestiva, accentuando il rischio di cui sopra. Per ovviare a questi lati negativi è necessario che la presenza sui social sia quotidianamente coordinata da una persona competente che vi si dedichi con costanza. Pubblicherà le informazioni promozionali, le notizie relative agli eventi e alle serate, ma soprattutto sarà suo compito rispondere in modo pronto ed efficace a eventuali lamentele pubblicate dai clienti”. q
