For people living with disability interested in learning

Welcome to the 2026 Positive Futures Expo

Welcome to the Positive Futures Expo 2026! Here, we share stories of empowerment and opportunity. This longstanding, yearly event is all about helping people living with disability find their path to success.

At the expo, you’ll find lots of different resources and services all in one place, so everyone can get the info they need to make their lives better.

The expo is here to help guide you in practical ways. Whether you’re discovering your strengths, interests, or career options, we’re like a helpful guide pointing you in the right direction.

This expo wouldn’t be possible without teamwork. We work closely with local

businesses, schools, and the community to make sure we offer the best support and advice to everyone who attends.

We’re also inspired by the Disability Action and Inclusion Plan 2025 to 2029, which aims to make our community prosperous, livable, and happy.

By offering opportunities for learning and growth, we’re helping to make this vision a reality.

So, as you explore the expo, remember to dream big! Whether you’re looking for a job, new friends, or just a sense of belonging, we’re here to help.

Together, we can create a future full of possibilities.

2

Workshop 11:30am – 12:00pm

What is advocacy and how can it help me?

Facilitated by Aaron Byrne from Advocacy for Disability Access and Inclusion Inc.

Confused about who can help when you have problems with the NDIS or services you access? Who can help you when you need help to speak up and have a voice?

Come and hear from Aaron from Advocacy for Disability Access and Inclusion (ADAI) talk about advocacy, what it is and how it is different from other services you may access.

Quiet Hour 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Quiet Hour provides a calmer, low-sensory way to experience the Expo. During this session, noise levels will be reduced, lighting will be lowered, and attendee numbers limited to reduce crowds and create a more comfortable environment.

This session is suitable for people who prefer a quieter setting, including people with disability, families, carers, and anyone who may find busy environments overwhelming.

Quiet Hour offers the same opportunities to connect with services, supports and pathways, just in a more relaxed and accessible space.

Virtual Reality Job Interview Experience

11:15am–12:00pm; 1:15pm–2:00pm; 2:15pm–3:00pm

Powered by WorkWindow

Job interviews can be stressful — especially if you don’t know what to expect. This interactive Virtual Reality experience, using WorkWindow software and VR headsets, allows participants to practice a full job interview in a safe, immersive environment.

Participants will experience:

• Preparing for the interview

• Communicating with HR

• Planning transport and arriving on time

• Choosing what to wear

• Greeting reception staff

• Participating in the interview itself

After the experience, users receive automated feedback across key interview skills, including:

Eye contact, speech volume, speech pace, response length, use of filler words, clothing choice and punctuality. This session is ideal for: Students and young people exploring work. People with disability building employment readiness. Educators and employment services. Families supporting career pathways.

Talking with an Avatar: Can You Make the Conversation Work?

(Adelaide University and UNSW

Sydney Research Activity)

How we communicate matters, especially when conversations do not go as expected. In this interactive activity, developed by researchers from The University of Adelaide and UNSW Sydney, participants have a short conversation with a digital avatar. The task is simple: find out the avatar’s favourite activity.

The experience encourages participants to notice how conversations unfold. A question might be unclear, too broad, or based on an assumption. The avatar may need clarification, give an unexpected answer, or not understand what is being asked. Participants need to listen carefully, respond to the avatar’s answers, and adapt the conversation as they go.

This activity supports reflection on everyday communication habits, active listening and respectful language. It is suitable for people with disability, students, educators, families, support workers and service providers, offering a practical way to reflect on how we listen, respond and adjust in everyday conversations.

Social Enterprise Businesses

Petes Tasty Treats

I am Pete, business owner and head baker at just 18 years old. I love to cook, it makes me happy and enables me to have a job, ‘despite my disabilities I too can have a job like anyone else’.

I am very excited to have my own business and that people want to try my food. Baking makes me happy and lets me and my team explore our creativity in making cakes, cupcakes and slices that people enjoy. I am supported in my business by family, friends and my mentors. I bake to order. I currently run my

business Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on other days as needed.

In my spare time I play basketball for the Special Olympics and in 2022 was selected for Team SA to participate at Nationals in Launceston in October 2022.

I also love to travel, explore and taste foods from around the world. Contact us and me and my team will do our best to fulfill and deliver (if needed) your order.

Archer and Alice

Archer and Alice Coffee and Treats is a family business established in 2024 to support our son/brother, Archer, to achieve his dream of having a career in hospitality. We provide a supportive environment for Archer to develop and master the skills required to achieve his goals. Our mantra is “Focusing on the ABILITY in disABILITY”.

Archer is learning all aspects of running a business, including customer service, money handling, EFTPOS, multi-tasking, barista skills, food handling and hygiene, stock handling, site setup and pack up.

Archer completed Year 12 last year, having studied cafe skills for 3 years, a TAFE certificate in Food Safety and Hygiene and a VET Certificate II in Hospitality. He has also completed a certified barista course.

We have two vehicles: “Alice” – selling coffee, popcorn, milkshakes, iced tea and slushies at larger events, such as country shows, fetes, markets and community events; and “Geraldine” – selling coffee at smaller events and to employees of local businesses.
