History Service

The History Service is located in the Civic Centre Library and provides resources and assistance for people who are researching the history of the local area and for those interested in tracing information about their own family’s history.

Access databases such as Findmypast and Ancestry.com for free within the Library Service.

Playford’s Past Recollect

Find a virtual treasure trove of history that encompasses lives, events and changes in the City of Playford area.

Author Talk with Judy Gillett-Ferguson

Join author Judy Gillet-Ferguson for an engaging talk about her novel set in a fictional town near Angaston, exploring Australia's internment of Germans during World War I. Judy will discuss the history behind the story and the characters that bring this little-known chapter of history to life.

Metal Embossing Workshop

This adult workshop teaches participants to create hanging decorations using aluminium flashing or coloured metal. You’ll learn design, pattern creation, and embossing techniques, using both tools and household items. Come along and try something new!

Joining the Library is free and gives you access to borrow from all public libraries in the Libraries SA network.

Please make sure your mobile phone number and email address are up to date to receive SMS/ email reminder before your items are due.

We now have automatic renewals in the library service. Your item will be automatically renewed, if no one else has requested the item and your card is clear of any fees and fines.

The JP Service is a drop-in service with volunteer JP staff. We recommend you contact the library on the day to ensure availability. Please ensure you bring Photo ID as it must be sighted by the JP as per SA’s Oath Act (1936).
