Let’s take a look at some of the outstanding records that have been released in the month of June, and see who truly has made the song of the summer

One of my all-time favorite artists is Billie Holiday Her album ‘Lady in Satin’ was released in June of 1958. It’s filled with classic jazz love, and heartbreak ballads I’ve spent countless mornings - almost every morning of June - playing this record There’s a timeless quality in Billie's voice that I am forever in love with

Riding into the next decade, the album ‘King of the Surf Guitar’ by Dick Dale was released in 1963 It remains a quintessential summer beach staple that captures the essence of the era A few years later, released in 1971, the renowned album ‘Blue’ by Joni Mitchell hit the charts

a classic fifty years later, ‘Blue’ was ranked #16on Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums earlier this year Moving and grooving into the 80's, we have Bob Dylan’s ‘Empire Burlesque’ released in 1985 The embrace of a more elaborate production value makes this a stand out album in Dylan’s extensive discography Fellow singer-songwriter icon, Elton John, released his album, ‘The One’ in 1991 On album twenty-three, he explored all genres, ranging from blues to pop-hypnotic to R&B soul Wrapping it up with the one of the first rap albums I remember hearing, ‘Tha Carter’ by Lil Wayne Released in 2004, this album significantly influenced the course of Wayne's career into the ongoing legacy it is today

Pop princess summer is in full swing, led by our favorite IRL Polly Pocket, Ms. Sabrina Carpenter. Her chart-topping single, titled ‘Espresso’, remains #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, 9 weeks after the initial release. The first week of June, Carpenter announced a second single, titled ‘Please Please Please,’ off of her upcoming album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ that’s available everywhere August 23rd. And as I’m writing this, the ‘Short n’ Sweet Tour’ was just announced! The U.S. based arena tour kicks off September 23rd and goes through November 15th.

The singer rose to new levels of fame in the past year after dropping 5th studio album, “emails i can’t send fwd:,” featuring viral hits “Feather”, “Nonsense”, and my personal favorite “how many things” (the sad girl in me can’t help it). After finishing her fourth headlining tour she began opening up for The Eras Tour, traveling worldwide with fellow iconic blondie, Taylor Swift, playing stadium shows in Latin America, Japan, Australia, and Singapore. Since May, she has been touring all around Europe and will continue to do so until the final international dates mid-August (just days before her new album drops!)

In her free time Sabrina has also made time to appear as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, debut ‘Espresso’ at Coachella Music Festival, perform at NYC Gov ball, and star in the ‘Please, Please, Please,’ music video, featuring her actor boyfriend.

I’ll just keep it short ‘n sweet, it’s a Sabrina Carpenter summer!

‘B2b’ unexpectedly climbed to the top of my list after several listen throughs of ‘brat.’ I couldn’t even tell you how many TikTok drafts I have with this song for the audio It’s addictive, sexy, and dare I say a even club classic!

MEAN GIRLS

‘Mean girls’ talks about how everyone is obsessed with the idea of ‘mean’, bad, party girls, even if they don’t want to be This track is such a fun listen, the piano interlude gets me going every time. Brb listening to Lana Del Rey with my airpods

APPLE

‘Apple’ serves as a dance-pop illustration of how individuals can acquire negative ingrained traits from others without even realizing. I’m infatuated with this track because I know a few rotten cores myself!

Here is a selection of musicians and bands that I have loved for awhile now. Each of these artists bring something unique to the table, making the current music scene an exciting and diverse landscape to explore.

THE FUTURE OF FOLK

Folk music has maintained popularity across generations, conveying narratives imbued with messages and themes that deeply resonate within communities and cultures. The recent resurgence of folk music can be attributed to a fusion of genres, resulting in the emergence of folk-pop. Beloved artists including Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, and Tyler Childers are on the frontlines of this resurgence, achieving widespread popularity within the folk and mainstream music communities One more artist that needs to be added to that list is Olive Klug.

I have known of the Nashville based artist for a couple of years, being most familiar with their more popular songs, one of which includes ‘Raining in June,’ released in 2021. I revisit this song every summer, and this past June, my curiosity led me to explore more of their music. Klug's single, ‘Why Can't I’ released in 2022, has become an alltime favorite melancholic song of mine (and I have a lot ) Their latest release, ‘What To Make of Me,’ which debuted on June 7th, is the sweetest summer time melody Though there is no news of a sophomore album in the works, but I’m still eagerly anticipating one!

I LOVE SPORTS...NOT THAT KIND

Need new indie musician boy crushes? Look no further! Long time friends from Oklahoma, Christian and Cale, make up the alternative indie duo known as Sports. Their first two albums ‘Naked All the Time’ and ‘People Can’t Stop Chillin’ released back to back years are definitely a windows down, long road kind of listen

Personal favorites from both records are ‘Someone You’d Rather Be Dating’, ‘You are the Right One’,

and ‘Strange to Hear ’ May 24th their new single ‘Thank You for Leaving’ featuring singer Gus Dapperton dropped. Their newer music exhibits a more alternative, funky ambiance - think Tame Impala meets Dr Dog!

TAKE ME TO FUNKYTOWN

Hailing from Austin, Texas this funk and soul collective radiates an unparalleled vitality in their musical compositions. Sir Woman is an ensemble made up of talented artists coming from all different backgrounds Among their repertoire are standout tracks such as 'Good Lady' and 'She Want' from their self titled debut album, along with their most popular song 'Highroad' from the EP ‘Bitch ’

The band swiftly ascended to headliner status around Austin's esteemed venues and achieved the title of Artist of the Year at the 2023 Austin Music Awards Lead vocalist Kelsey Wilson originally started Sir Woman as a solo venture, but once the ensemble began performing together, their vibrant and exuberant stage presence was felt all throughout Texas Sir Woman needs to takeover the festival space, their energy is unmatched!

MOMMY? SORRY. MOMMA?

This booked and busy indie rock band has three top tier albums to check out Momma most recently dropped their third album ‘Household Name’ in 2022. My introductory song to the group (and continued favorite) is a song titled ‘Rockstar ’ Mama is the perfect mix of Wet Leg and Avril Lavigne! The band most recently got off of tour, supporting Girl in Red

and St Vincent for a number of their US dates Throughout November they will be supporting one of my favorite it girls, Beabadoobee, during her UK tour. In 2023, Momma performed a killer set at Coachella for the first time, and I’m hoping to see them at more festivals soon If you ever want to channel your inner 2000's Lindsay Lohan, just give Momma a listen!
