We are passionate about our purpose and committed to investing in research, sharing knowledge, and cultivating community outcomes. Our Center for Outreach, Research, and Education assists communities in advancing the quality of play and recreation spaces through the implementation of research, continuing education, best practice programs, and community advocacy.

We work closely with the world’s foremost scholars to fund original research and gain insights, then mobilize this research into best practice design guides and activity programs. Our scholarly research methodology encompasses a complete approach, from planning to programming, in order to assure quality environments that promote high levels of use and support community health and engagement.

We act as a catalyst to our brands and the communities we serve, providing valid research that informs product development and environmental design. We offer a robust library of resources and training opportunities across a field of relevant priorities, including play, nature, inclusion, partnerships, physical activity, bicycle advocacy, water immersion, and more. We share our resources across the industry through a network of publications, briefs, CEU education, advocacy, and consulting services.

Investing in Communities

To help communities advocate for play and recreation, we share our thought leadership resources through internationally accredited CEU education that advances play and recreation. We are an authorized provider of CEU’s through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LACES), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We also provide communities with tools to help define and execute collaborative implementation strategies that drive projects forward in a meaningful way.

We are privileged to partner with communities to document, track, and share successes. Through our National Demonstration Site program, we capitalize on our collective expertise and research to recognize communities that have implemented research-based best practices. National Demonstration Sites provide people of all ages and abilities the means to be physically and socially active across five categories: inclusive playground design, adult fitness, youth fitness, playful trails, and nature infused play spaces. Together, we can be catalysts to rally diverse stakeholders to further champion investments in communities.

Operating with core manufacturing sites in Fort Payne, Alabama; Red Bud, Illinois; Grants Pass, Oregon; Holland, Michigan; and Carrollton, Georgia, PlayCore is able to excel in metalworking and fabrication, powder and PVC coatings, and plastic forming. In addition, our specialized manufacturing sites, located in additional cities throughout the U.S. provide PlayCore with the ability to continually innovate specialized processes that we utilize throughout our diverse play and recreation categories.

Our commercial play facility is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified to ensure adherence to manufacturing excellence and environmental sustainability, and our structural steel businesses, grandstands, and shelters are AISC certified. PlayCore’s beyond compliance approach to product quality and service ensures that our customers are delighted.

Fitness

We are dedicated to creating engaging fitness solutions that offer people of all abilities and fitness levels a wellrounded workout across the categories of aerobic activity, muscle development, core strength, and balance/flexibility. We believe in quality fitness opportunities that hold people’s interest while standing the test of time. Whether outfitting a gym, augmenting personal training programs with new equipment, or adding an outdoor adult fitness space to a park or recreation center, our extensive research with leading health, exercise, and kinesiology experts has armed us with the tools and knowledge to create meaningful fitness experiences for everyone.

Physical activity is critical for overall health, and communities are seeking valid ways to address the dramatic rise in obesity and combat sedentary lifestyles. Our research in both youth and adult fitness creates a foundation on which we build fitness spaces designed to get people involved in sustainable healthy activity. Site amenities play a critical role in enhancing play and recreation settings and help communities create welcoming environments that can increase property value and add aesthetic function.

Providing seating, picnic tables, outdoor grills, and litter receptacles make gathering spaces more comfortable. Adding spectator seating to sporting fields and other areas of observation also increases comfort and usability.

Litter receptacles help eliminate trash and decrease maintenance. Bike racks and storage systems provide secure places for cyclists to store bikes away from pedestrian traffic while enjoying local services, and adding shade and shelter offers style, protection, and function to outdoor spaces.

Dog parks are one of the fastest growing amenities in public spaces today. People often assume they’re primarily for the benefit of dogs, but research demonstrates that they are enjoyed just as much, if not more, by dog owners. Outdoor musical instruments are one of the newest, fastest growing amenities, providing playful options for people of all ages and abilities to come together and create real music, whether they know how to play an instrument or not.

Aquatics

Water has a wealth of benefits. In addition to being fun, swimming and water activities are great ways to get fit, stay healthy, and socialize with friends. Through our research and published work with recognized scholars in the aquatic field, we understand and appreciate the many benefits, and know that the pool is a catalyst to encourage healthy behavior. Swimming can strengthen joints, reduce lower back pain, and help promote balance and fall prevention. For communities that offer an aquatic environment, are considering the addition of a pool, or are looking to add or expand their aquatic programming, our research and wide product selection can help create a community pool that benefits everyone. We also specialize in installation and service options to create new pools, then keep them clean and sparkling.

Our offering also includes splash parks and fountains. Splash parks are a creative and inclusive way to promote water play in the community with accessible, groundlevel activities. Aquatics

Surfacing

With a commitment to safety, design, function, and play value, surfacing has grown into an exciting and broad field of options for finishing a play, aquatic, or recreation environment. Today, safety surfacing can be found in any number of styles, textures, colors, or designs. In addition, decorative surfacing can be utilized to reduce maintenance or enhance the beauty of a recreation area. Each type of environment has unique requirements and characteristics, so relying on an expert who can deliver exactly what each space needs is of paramount importance.

Playgrounds require protective surfacing, and there are many factors that will help facilitate playground surfacing selection. Our guidebook on surfacing provides communities with the tools to understand options in planning, purchasing, and protecting surfacing investments.
