Holiday Magic on Main Bright and festive storefronts, entertainment, hot chocolate, s'mores, chestnuts, horse drawn wagon rides and shopping galore! This year’s Holiday Magic on Main promises to be an event you won’t want to miss!
The Platteville Main Street Program in partnership with the Regional Chamber, Kiwanis, Make Music Platteville, and Platteville Public Library will be hosting this year’s Holiday Magic on Main Friday night December 13th between 5 and 8 p.m.
As you stroll through the downtown district, you will be able to enjoy fabulous musical performances at many Main Street locations, listen to the wonderful caroling by the Middle School Chorale Choir and also a dance performance by HD Academy. Stop by Garvey’s Auto and visit the Kiwanis to treat yourself to roasted chestnuts and smores, and grab a cup of hot chocolate courtesy of Marine Credit Union. You can also
take a ride in a horse drawn wagon, up and down Main Street and around City Park to view all of the festivities and wave to Santa (or the Grinch!)
Businesses will be open that night to provide you with everything you need for that unique and thoughtful holiday gift. Look for amazing deals as you venture through the brightly lit and festive storefronts. Treat yourself to coffee, chocolates, popcorn, baked goods and other amazing and delicious items. There will be many vendors and crafters set up in downtown businesses providing a large variety of items guaranteed to appeal to everyone.
Don’t forget to stop at the Platteville Public Library for a Pop Up book sale and refreshments, and then over to the Holiday Inn Express where the Gingerbread house contest will be taking place along with more musical performances. Event updates can be found on the Platteville Main Street Facebook page as
they become available. If you are interested being a vendor, or part of the event, contact Michael Walsh at director@plattevillemainstreet.com, or 608-348-4505.
Katie’s Winter Wonderland

Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus to receive a special treat! See page 14 for more details.
Katie’s Garden Trees of Light
Be sure to visit Katie’s Garden between December 6, 2024 and January 1, 2025 to enjoy the holiday lights of the season. Lights and animated inflatables turn on around dusk each evening (weather dependent). Bring your friends for a self-guided tour of the garden.

Following the celebrated decision to build a new fire facility at the site of the decommissioned O.E. Gray Schoolhouse, the City of Platteville is excited to announce key developments in this significant community project.
The City has established a project budget of $14,477,000 for the new facility, which aims to provide essential upgrades for the local fire department, enhancing safety and efficiency for our dedicated responders. The current fire station, which has served the community for over 60 years, will soon be replaced by a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate larger emergency vehicles and incorporate modern safety features.
Demolition of the O.E. Gray Schoolhouse is anticipated to take place
in December of 2024 and January of 2025, clearing the site for construction. To facilitate this new building and ensure seamless integration with essential utilities, street reconstruction on W. Adams Street has been completed.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for March 2025, with the goal of having the new fire facility operational by the summer of 2026.
“We are incredibly grateful to our community for their support, which has allowed us to surpass the $1.5 million capital campaign goal,” said City Manager Clint Langreck. “This achievement, made possible through the efforts of our amazing fundraising team (under the leadership of Paul Budden and John Fick) and guidance from Inspiring
Community Inc., underscores the commitment of Platteville residents to enhancing public safety.”
The City would also like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to our township partners — Belmont, Elk Grove, Ellenboro, Harrison, Lima, Platteville, and Smelser — for their continued support throughout this project. Their collaboration has been vital in shaping a facility that will serve our community for decades to come.
As the project moves forward, the Platteville City Manager, Fire Chief, and facility guidance team will continue to work closely with the architect and construction manager to finalize construction documents and begin the building process.

Volunteer Spotlight: THANKING THOSE WHO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY
The City of Platteville would like to thank those who devote their time and talent to many aspects of our community, in a new "Volunteer Spotlight" feature in the 53818 newsletter. This Volunteer recognition feature shines a quarterly spotlight upon a dedicated individual or organization that has made great volunteer contributions and efforts in the community

The City of Platteville sends a thank you to all of the Platteville High School students who participated in Community Service Day on September 27. Students were a huge help cleaning, organizing, painting, wiping down play equipment, picking up brush, weeding flower beds, cleaning up trash, and creating decorative art. Areas of focus included the Platteville Public Library, The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums, the Community Garden and several parks & trails.
The Platteville Parks and Recreation Dept. would like to thank Theresa Paulus for her dedication to the Platteville Youth Diamond Sports program. Theresa has been involved with the PYDS program for over three years. She started the T-ball program in the summer of 2022, became Facilities Director for the 2023 season, and recently completed her first year as PYDS President. Theresa shared, "Baseball and softball have been a part of my life since I started playing when I was 6. Growing up in Cudahy, I spent years playing softball, umpiring, coaching, and serving on their board. When I had children, I wanted to share my passion for baseball with them. There weren't options in Platteville for 4 and 5-year-olds, so I approached the PYDS program and proposed starting a T-ball league. After the first season, I decided to join the PYDS board to help grow the league further. I enjoy sharing my passion for baseball and softball, while making a difference in the community. I not only get to watch my own kids grow and develop, but also see other families enjoy all that PYDS offers."

The Platteville Public Library is featuring our fantastic volunteer, Nandini, for her exceptional service at the library. Her consistent high effort, responsibility, and dependability make her a stand-out volunteer. She approached every task given to her with a positive attitude and was featured in the Telegraph Herald as a “person who makes a difference.” Her ability to mend the most well-loved books has genuinely helped everyone here at the library, as acknowledged by those who work here. We are deeply grateful for all she has done as a volunteer.
