The versatile creativity of Charlotte Perriand, Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier helped redefine the canons of painting, architecture and design. Co-founder of the Union des Artistes Modernes and the Formes Utiles movement, she developed important contacts in the world of artistic tableware
the Service Prunier and the Collection Chandigarh, bear the signature of Le Corbusier. The first recalls the original service created for the Prunier restaurant in London, made in 1961 with the same intertwined hands motif featured on a tapestry by the architect and displayed in one of the owner’s private rooms. The Chandigarh collection comprises three trays depicting some interpretations in relief of symbols created by Le Corbusier and impressed into the walls of the buildings of Chandigarh, the Indian city he designed in the 1950s. True to its mission to bring to the table objects that can tell an important creative story, Cassina now presents its new Le Monde collection by Charlotte Perriand. Architect, urban planner and photographer, Perriand was an all-round creative who could sense new currents in modernity before they occurred. The porcelain service comprises charger plate, plate, bowl and dessert dish with three different decorations that can be matched or mixed. The graphic motifs were selected from the designer’s image archive. Since the late 1930s she drew on photography as an important means of expression. The porcelain is hand-decorated with a blue and white pattern and reflects Charlotte Perriand’s interest in the natural world. During her travels she loved to gather and collect stones, roots and pieces of wood, and would then include them in her designs, using natural elements to integrate engravings and decorations. These methods had a solid practical basis in the knowledge the French architect acquired in Japan, where she studied lacquer work and ceramic techniques between 1940 and 1941. www.ginori1735.com - www.cassina.com
