Touch, meaning to touch, but also to feel with the hands, to touch a surface, to verify its density and quality, to perceive the spirit of things, places and living beings, to seek a nonsuperficial dialogue that goes beyond the skin that covers everything, in search of a possible hidden truth that will offer us unexpected sensations.

Architecture is also the result of the physical, emotional and symbolic contact between us and the world around us. How many times have you brushed against a wall, perceiving its workmanship and material?

How many times have you felt wood, metal, ceramics or glass with your fingers, trying to understand the texture and workmanship?

It is like touching someone else's skin and feeling the energy, the electricity that you are exchanging and that generates a useful and perhaps necessary communion.

This new year of Platform will be built on the senses, all the senses, trying to expand as much as possible the relationship that we, as living beings, activate with the built world and the places we inhabit.

This is a provocation and at the same time a stimulus to go beyond the surface of things to grasp the soul of spaces and works that we will be looking for for you, demonstrating that there is also architecture with a combative, critical and anomalous spirit, as is the soul of our magazine.

Touch. We are going back to making six issues a year and, together with our Creative Director, we have reconsidered the graphic and visual character of the magazine, but not only: from this issue Platform also lands on Spotify, with its own profile and with a playlist to accompany the reading. A natural expansion with new formats that increase the echo of our work. So this issue becomes a journey that begins with the restless and ironic soul of Giancarlo Mazzanti and continues with the works of Bergmeisterwolf, Manthey Kula, Adjaye Associati, Gambardella architects, Francisco Pardo, Fernanda Canales, Andrès Jaques, Francesco Librizzi, Vudafieri and Saverino, Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli and many other authors who make imperfect and unstable research their most original soul. This is the soul of Platform. Touch it to believe it.

Touch, ovvero toccare, ma anche sentire con le mani, sfiorare una superficie, verificare la densità e la qualità, percepire lo spirito delle cose, dei luoghi e dei viventi, cercare un dialogo non superficiale che vada oltre la pelle che tutto ricopre, alla ricerca di una possibile verità celata che ci offrirà sensazioni inattese. L’architettura è anche il risultato del contatto fisico, emozionale e simbolico tra noi e il mondo che ci circonda. Quante volte avete sfiorato un muro percependone la fattura e materia?

Quante volte avete saggiato con le dita il legno, i metalli, le ceramiche o il vetro cercando di comprendere la pasta e la sua fattura? È come sfiorare la pelle di qualcun altro e percepire l’energia, l’elettricità che vi state scambiando e che genera una comunione utile e, magari, necessaria.

Questo nuovo anno di Platform sarà costruito sui sensi, tutti i sensi, cercando di ampliare il più possibile la relazione che noi viventi attiviamo con il mondo costruito e con i luoghi che abitiamo. Si tratta di una provocazione e insieme di uno stimolo ad andare oltre la superficie delle cose per andare a cogliere l’anima degli spazi e di quelle opere che cercheremo per voi a dimostrazione che esiste anche l’architettura con uno spirito battagliero, critico e anomalo, così come è l’anima della nostra rivista.

Adjaye Associates is one of the most interesting design references in terms of innovative use of materials and textures, always providing an authorial vision even of usual, recognisable forms.

This is the case of the recently opened Winter Park Library & Events Center in Florida, which sums up some of the key points of Sir. David Adjaye. The aim of the project was to strengthen the Winter Park community by including activities related to knowledge and leisure time and, as in the architect's style, the choice of the right materials in relation to nature becomes the main theme of the project. Pink cement wraps around the buildings, giving the impression of being a derivation of the land through use of a

defined geometry softened by the arches on the cement panels.

The solidity of the project is an evident feature of the compositional choice, and the apparent strength of the cladding is contrasted by the lightness of the glass which brings natural light into the blocks.

The splaying of the volumes towards the sky gives the impression that the pavilions are precious stones lying gently on the ground of the park, in line with what the architect himself defines as biophilic design principles. The three pavilions contain a library, an event centre with a panoramic terrace and a Porte Cochère, all functions that contribute to the idea of making this space a "micro village" immersed in the greenery of Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

Lo studio Adjaye Associates è uno dei riferimenti progettuali più interessanti in merito a un uso innovativo dei materiali e delle texture, consegnando sempre una visione autoriale anche di forme usuali e riconoscibili. È il caso del Winter Park Library & Events Center in Florida, inaugurato di recente e che sintetizza alcuni dei punti fermi dell’approccio progettuale dello studio di Sir. David Adjaye.

L’intervento ha avuto come obiettivo quello di potenziare la comunità di Winter Park inserendo delle attività legate all’ambito della conoscenza e del tempo libero e, come nello stile dell’architetto, la scelta dei giusti materiali in rapporto con la natura diventa il tema principale del progetto. Il cemento rosa avvolge gli edifici dando l’impressione di essere una derivazione del suolo anche attraverso

l’uso di una geometria definita ma addolcita dagli archi che troviamo rappresentati sui pannelli in cemento. La solidità del progetto è una caratteristica evidente nella scelta compositiva e, alla robustezza apparente del rivestimento, si oppone la leggerezza del vetro che conduce la luce naturale all’interno dei blocchi. La strombatura dei volumi verso il cielo ci restituisce l’impressione che i padiglioni siano delle pietre preziose che si adagiano con gentilezza sul suolo del parco, in linea con quelli che l’architetto stesso definisce come biophilic design principles. I tre padiglioni contengono una biblioteca, un centro eventi con una terrazza panoramica e un Porte Cochère, tutte funzioni che concorrono all’idea di rendere questo spazio un “micro villaggio” immerso nel verde del Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

The theme of living, in the extraordinary project in Hamburgö, Sweden, by the Manthey Kula studio, seals the field of singular experimentation, where everything contributes to the design of this building hovering between the real and the imaginary, nature and artifice. A pure volume of impalpable material that seems to gravitate over an uncontaminated landscape. An image made possible thanks to a sophisticated structural system using arched elements in laminated wood to support the entire system. There is no inside or outside: everything is designed to enhance the natural context, with textures and materials selected ad hoc to celebrate the imperfect beauty of nature. And as witnesses to the history of the world, the ancient rocks on the site become the perfect setting for a unique scenario, welcoming the bridge-house and its 29 metres of flexible, functional spaces.

The living area, as opposed to the private rooms, is conceived as open and passable.

Sliding elements give its inhabitants new views.

The floor and wall coverings of the elevations further contribute to the construction of a unified space. In addition, the system of holes amplifies the perception of the interior, recreating a constant relationship with the landscape. A house suspended in time and in the air, whose ancestral character made it highly commended in the international AR House Award, making it stand out for its originality and architectural quality.

Il tema dell’abitare, nello straordinario progetto realizzato ad Hamburgö, in Svezia, a opera dello studio Manthey Kula, suggella il campo di una singolare sperimentazione, dove tutto concorre all’ideazione di questo edificio in bilico tra il reale e l’immaginario, la natura e l’artificio. Un volume puro di materia impalpabile che sembra gravitare su un paesaggio incontaminato. Un’immagine resa possibile grazie a un sofisticato sistema strutturale che prevede l’uso di elementi ad arco in legno lamellare a sostegno dell’intero impianto.

Non c’è un dentro e un fuori: tutto è pensato per esaltare il contesto naturale, con texture e materiali selezionati ad hoc per celebrare la bellezza imperfetta della natura. E come testimoni della storia del mondo, le antiche rocce presenti sul sito diventano la cornice perfetta di uno scenario irripetibile, accogliendo la casa-ponte e i suoi 29 metri di spazi flessibili e funzionali.

La zona giorno, in opposizione agli ambienti privati, è pensata come aperta e passante.

Elementi scorrevoli regalano nuovi sguardi ai suoi abitanti. La pavimentazione e i rivestimenti degli alzati concorrono ulteriormente alla costruzione di uno spazio unitario. Inoltre, il sistema di bucature amplifica la percezione dell’interno ricreando una costante relazione con il paesaggio. Una casa sospesa nel tempo e nell’aria, il cui carattere ancestrale l'ha resa altamente raccomandata nel premio internazionale AR House, dove si è fatta notare per originalità e qualità architettonica.

CASAE bergmeisterwolf

Cannobio is an Italian municipality in the province of Piedmont, bordering Switzerland and washed by Lake Maggiore.

Here, on a mountain slope, Casa E was built, designed by the bergmeisterwolf architectural studio. True to the young architects' approach, the home "responds to the context with attention to materials and a bold formal solution", so integration and projection are the dominant features of the design intervention.

While one part of the home becomes one with the surrounding landscape, the remaining part juts out, reflected in the water of the lake and resting on the ground thanks to a v-shaped pillar. Given the presence of this imposing overhang, the open space below is occupied by a swimming pool which enriches the morphology of the natural environment. The materiality of the building conceals the house with the surrounding rocks.

Concrete is worked to be present both outside and inside the home: rough parts recall the massive presence of the stones while smooth parts emphasise the mimesis with the environment.

This highly visible interplay of materials is combined with an interplay of shapes accentuated by individual claddings.

The black railing separating the exterior from the interior has a curved, sloping geometry that is totally at odds with the horizontal profile of the house, which also characterises the city's skyline.

Cannobio è un comune italiano della provincia piemontese, confinante con la Svizzera e bagnato dal Lago Maggiore.

Qui, su un pendio montuoso, è stata costruita Casa E, progettata dallo studio di architettura bergmeisterwolf. Fedele all’approccio dei giovani architetti, l’abitazione “risponde al contesto con attenzione ai materiali e con una audace soluzione formale”, così integrazione e proiezione sono i caratteri dominanti dell’intervento progettuale. Se una parte della casa diventa tutt’uno col paesaggio circostante, la restante parte è sporgente, riflessa nell’acqua del lago e appoggiata al terreno grazie a un pilastro a “v”. Data la presenza di quest’imponente sbalzo, lo spazio aperto sottostante è occupato da una piscina che arricchisce la morfologia dell’ambiente naturale. La materialità dell’edificio dissimula la casa con le rocce circostanti. Il calcestruzzo è lavorato per essere presente sia all’esterno che all’interno dell’abitazione: parti ruvide richiamano la massiva presenza delle pietre mentre parti lisce enfatizzano la mimesi con l’ambiente. Tale gioco materico, fortemente visibile, si unisce a un gioco di forme accentuato da singoli rivestimenti. La ringhiera nera che separa le parti esterne dalle interne ha una geometria curva e inclinata, totalmente discostante dal profilo orizzontale dell’abitazione che, d’altra parte, contraddistingue lo skyline della città.

In year 2021 a new Cultural Hub has been inaugurated in the city of Douala in Cameroon. The project was designed by the the architects Cascone + Laddaga / Codesignlab for the Coe ngo with the support of the Aics, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The construction of the hub, displayed at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2021 in the frame of the "African Fabbers School - Afs" installation, was the result of a collaborative process which has involved the students of the Afs school, a laboratory of social design and selfconstruction, as well as the local community.

The main drivers of the design process developed by the architects Cascone + Laddaga aimed to respond to the extreme climatic conditions of Douala as well as the necessity of a circular economy approach, dealing with local materials and construction knowledge. For these reasons the cultural centre has been parametrically designed with an environmental approach and built bridging traditional techniques and digital fabrication technologies. The use of advanced tools of environmental analysis has informed the ecological design process with the aim to minimize the energy consumption of the building, improving its passive cooling ventilation and the thermal performances. The project has been conceived as an urban micro-infrastructure that includes a school of fine art, exhibition spaces, laboratories etc; an open structure built around a courtyard able to evolve over the time according to the needs of the local community.

Nel 2021 è stato inaugurato a Douala, Cameroon, il progetto per un Hub culturale sviluppato dagli architetti Cascone+Laddaga / Codesignlab e commissionato dalla ong Coe grazie ad un finanziamento dell’Aics - Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo. Il progetto del centro culturale, presentato alla Biennale di Venezia di Architettura 2021 nell’installazione “Afs-African Fabbers School”, è il frutto di un processo collaborativo che ha coinvolto gli studenti della Afs school, un laboratorio di social design e auto-costruzione, insieme ad artigiani locali. I principi fondativi alla base del progetto realizzato dagli architetti Cascone + Laddaga rispondono alle condizioni estreme del contesto climatico di Douala oltre che all’esigenza di sviluppare un approccio di economia circolare utilizzando materiali e know-how locali. In tal senso il centro culturale è stato progettato attraverso un processo parametrico di progettazione ambientale e realizzato coniugando tecniche di costruzione tradizionali e tecnologie di fabbricazione digitale.

L’utilizzo di software avanzati di simulazione ambientale ha contribuito a definire una strategia progettuale ecosostenibile tesa a minimizzare il consumo energetico dell’edificio, migliorandone la ventilazione passiva e le performance termiche. AN IRIDESCENT

The rough brick, the patios, the garden roof, the concrete vaults, the light, the passages, the wood: matrix elements as determinants of a house deconstructed around four courtyards that allow each room to have at least a double exposure. It is an indispensable refuge for resting, which can open flexibly to the panorama and protect users from the radical effects of the climate of the Valle de Bravo. Fernanda Canales' Casa Terreno is a bioclimatic machine that combines active and passive systems to minimise energy requirements for use, but that is not all it is.

The skilful management of the horizontal and vertical openings, the displacement of the patios, the coordination of natural light and the landscape, the extreme geometry of the built volumes and the primordial nature of the building's formal findings create multiform landscapes inside and out, with a predominance of iridescent atmospheres inside which open up at specific points to frame specific external views. So the expressive language of this refuge avoids the misunderstanding of an autochthonous declination of a way of composing ascribable to universal modernity1, and tends towards an approach poised between an innovative attitude and a drive to tackle the roots of the vernacular project, with a farsightedness that seems to aspire to the etymology of the "unattainable master "2.

Il mattone grezzo, i patii, il tetto giardino, le volte in cemento, la luce, i passaggi, il legno: elementi matriciali come determinanti di una casa decostruita attorno a quattro corti che permettono di fornire ciascun ambiente di almeno una doppia esposizione. È un rifugio indispensabile per il riposo, che può aprirsi in maniera flessibile al panorama e difendere gli utenti dai radicali effetti del clima della Valle de Bravo.

Casa Terreno di Fernanda Canales è, infatti, una macchina bioclimatica che unisce sistemi attivi e passivi per minimizzare il fabbisogno energetico d’uso, ma non è solo questo.

La sapiente gestione delle bucature orizzontali e verticali, lo sfasamento dei patii, la coordinazione della luce naturale e del paesaggio, la geometrizzazione estrema dei volumi edificati e la primordialità dei ritrovati formali dell’edificio, sono in grado di creare paesaggi multiformi dentro e fuori, con una predominanza di atmosfere iridescenti all’interno che si aprono, in punti mirati, a incorniciare specifiche viste esterne. Allora il linguaggio espressivo di questo rifugio scansa l’equivoco di una declinazione autoctona di un modo di comporre ascrivibile alla modernità universale1, per tendere a un approccio in bilico tra un’attitudine innovatrice e una pulsione ad affrontare le radici del progetto vernacolare, con una lungimiranza che sembra aspirare agli etimi del “maestro irraggiungibile”2.

Casa Aguacates is an underground shelter with a more human dimension, close to natural rhythms, rich in archaism, looking towards the sky and the landscape. The large skylights on the roof, set in an avocado field, allow the building's interior space to be irradiated by deep, precise bands of natural light which reflect off the surfaces stripped of all covering, highlighting their profound essence and giving the interior area warmth and light.

The domestic environment is stripped of everything superfluous and reveals its intrinsic nature through the use of a few simple elements that identify the clear representation of home.

The private areas are articulated on either side of the living room of the house, not hiding but making their presence perceptible thanks to the use of walls which are not of full height, dividing the space so as not to close it off completely.

The point around which the living area revolves is a big brazier in the centre of the room, evoking the purest, most archaic feeling of a domestic fireplace. This area divides and relates the outdoor spaces of the house which form the backdrop and boundary of the home. The first part of one of the outdoor spaces is a concrete terrace, on which there is an openair living room and a pool, and continues with a tongue of vegetation that is incorporated into the surrounding green space and turns the gaze towards the Valle de Bravo forest.

On the opposite side is a courtyard patio entirely excavated, surrounded by concrete slabs that form the backdrop for the entire house. Access to the courtyard is by means of a staircase up to the level of the roof, from which it is possible to perceive the presence of another part of the home, a sort of outdoor cabin made of recycled wood which serves as an observation point, offering spectacular views of the area.

The fireplace: large, central and main elements of domestic space

Casa Aguacates è una casa rifugio ipogea con una dimensione più umana e vicina ai ritmi naturali, ricca di arcaicità, che guarda verso il cielo e il paesaggio. I grandi lucernari posti sul tetto, immerso in un campo di avocado, fanno sì che lo spazio interno dell’edificio possa essere irradiato da profonde e precise fasce di luce naturale che riflettendosi sulle superfici spogliate di ogni rivestimento ne mettono in evidenza la profonda essenza e donano all’area interna calore e luce. L’ambiente domestico è privato di tutto ciò che è superfluo e rivela la sua intrinseca natura attraverso l’uso di pochi e semplici elementi che identificano la chiara rappresentazione di casa.

Le zone private si articolano ai lati del soggiorno della casa non celandosi ma rendendo percepibile la loro presenza grazie all’utilizzo di muri non a tutta altezza che dividono lo spazio così da non chiuderlo completamente. Il punto attorno al quale orbita la zona

living è un grande braciere, posto al centro della stanza, che evoca il sentimento più puro e arcaico del focolare domestico. Quest’area divide e mette in relazione gli spazi esterni della casa che fanno da sfondo e limite dell’abitazione. La prima parte di uno degli spazi esterni è una terrazza in cemento, su cui vi è un soggiorno a cielo aperto e uno specchio d’acqua, e prosegue con una lingua di vegetazione che viene incorporata dallo spazio verde circostante e rivolge lo sguardo verso la foresta della Valle de Bravo. All’opposto vi è un patio corte interamente scavato, circoscritto da lastre di calcestruzzo che fanno da quinta dell’intera abitazione. L’accesso alla corte è reso possibile da una scala che arriva alla quota della copertura, luogo dal quale è possibile percepire la presenza di un’ulteriore parte dell’abitazione costituita da una sorta di cabina esterna in legno riciclato che funge da punto di osservazione, offrendo spettacolari viste sul territorio.

The cultural center also lives at night, becoming a landmark for the local community.

Making architecture means performing a political and social act through design ethics. Bruno Munari wrote this clearly in the incredible pages of Da cosa nasce cosa (From what comes into being) in 1981: "creativity does not mean improvisation without method".

This thought brings us back with pleasure to the East Quay project, an interesting work for the balance of the heterogeneous elements employed and the application of an operational strategy that leaves nothing to chance. The result of a synergetic action between various players, with Invisible Studio and Ellis Williams Architects working together for the social enterprise Onion Collective CIC, this ambitious project involves building a cultural centre for the local community, translating architectural languages and features from the landscape context of the site. Revitalisation and inclusion are the driving idea behind a programme that mixes multiple functions and uses, calibrating the use of the object over time. The building, composed of two formal registers in great harmony, contains temporary accommodation, art galleries, artists' studios, workshops, refreshment rooms and educational projects. Unique environments, inserted in the cliff base and in the punctual volumes of the top level, created with unexpected geometries and great attention to environmental sustainability. The project is an example of innovation and regeneration for the entire community, the result of a "good recipe" that can only be executed by those who dare to go beyond the built material.

Fare architettura significa compiere un atto politico e sociale attraverso l’etica progettuale. Bruno Munari lo scrisse chiaramente nelle incredibili pagine di Da cosa nasce cosa nel 1981 ribadendo, inoltre, che: «creatività non vuol dire improvvisazione senza metodo». Questo pensiero ci riporta con piacere al progetto East Quay, un’opera interessante per l’equilibrio degli elementi eterogenei impiegati e l’applicazione di una strategia operativa che non lascia nulla al caso. Frutto di un’azione sinergica tra diversi protagonisti che vede Invisible Studio ed Ellis Williams Architects lavorare insieme per l’impresa sociale Onion Collective CIC, questo disegno ambizioso prevede la costruzione di un polo culturale per la collettività locale, traducendo linguaggi e fattezze

architettoniche dal contesto paesaggistico del sito di intervento.

Rivitalizzazione e inclusione sono l’idea trainante di un programma che mischia funzioni e usi molteplici tarando l’uso dell’oggetto nel tempo. L’edificio, composto da due registri formali in grande sintonia, racchiude alloggi temporanei, gallerie d'arte, studi per artisti, laboratori, locali per il ristoro e progetti educativi. Ambienti unici, inseriti nel basamento-scogliera e nei volumi puntuali dell’ultimo livello, realizzati con geometrie non scontate e grande attenzione alla sostenibilità ambientale.

Il progetto è un esempio di innovazione e rigenerazione per l’intera comunità, il risultato di una “buona ricetta” che può eseguire solo chi osa spingersi oltre la materia costruita.

"An ambitious attempt to tame an urban space" is what the Scuola di Bressanone represents for architects Michel Carlana, Luca Mezzalira and Curzio Pentimalli. In 2014 the studio won the international competition to build a music school, the new headquarters of the band and a connecting passageway to the oldest city in the Tyrol. The design also defines an urbanistic language: the Music School is located in a strategic area, a hub for vehicles and pedestrians and an area rich in collective facilities. The different heights of the land are hidden by a volume that accommodates more than a thousand students in 29 classrooms, as well as activities organised by music associations. The Music School represents the archetype of the enclosure: it is a container occupying an urban void and in which an enclosed courtyard is created. Although only two floors are visible, the music complex has a basement and three above-ground floors that outline the city skyline and blend into the urban context thanks to the monumentality of the facades. The local decorations are brought back to life in a contemporary way, combining art and architecture with an innovative structure and traditional materiality. The accesses at different heights guarantee full permeability of the areas, further specifying how the Wunderkammer is an architecture "available to everyone".

“Il tentativo, ambizioso, di addomesticare uno spazio urbano” è quel che la Scuola di Bressanone rappresenta per gli architetti Michel Carlana, Luca Mezzalira e Curzio Pentimalli.

Nel 2014 l'ufficio vince il concorso internazionale bandito per realizzare una scuola di musica, la nuova sede della banda musicale e un passage di collegamento alla città più antica del Tirolo. L’intervento progettuale definisce un linguaggio anche urbanistico: la Scuola di Musica è inserita in un’area strategica, centro di snodo di flussi carrabili e pedonali e zona ricca di attrezzature collettive. Le diverse altezze di quote caratterizzanti il terreno sono nascoste da un volume che accoglie più di mille studenti in 29 aule, oltre ad attività organizzate da associazioni musicali. La Scuola di Musica rappresenta l’archetipo del recinto: si tratta di un contenitore che occupa un vuoto urbano e in cui si ricava una corte racchiusa. Anche se risultano visibili solo due piani, il complesso musicale presenta un piano interrato e tre piani fuori terra che delineano lo skyline della città e si mimetizzano con il contesto urbano grazie alla monumentalità delle facciate.

Le decorazioni locali sono riportate in chiave contemporanea unendo arte e architettura con un’innovata struttura e una tradizionale materialità. Gli accessi a quote differenti garantiscono una piena permeabilità delle aree, specificando ancor più quanto la Wunderkammer sia un’architettura “a disposizione di tutti”.

Luca Molinari | You once said something to me that I really liked: you said that the home is not functional but is connected to our rituals and our ways of inhabiting it.

And every space you design for communities starts from an idea of rituality. Not so much from a strictly functional dimension, which is a kind of legacy of the 20th century that we are leaving behind, but from a sense of common life that we have to recover.

Luca Molinari | Una volta mi hai detto una cosa che mi è piaciuta molto: hai detto che la casa non è funzionale ma è collegata ai nostri riti e ai nostri modi di abitarla.

E ogni spazio che progetti per le comunità parte da una idea di ritualità. Non tanto da una dimensione strettamente funzionale che una specie di eredità del ventesimo secolo che ci lasciamo lasciando un po’ alle spalle ma da un senso della vita comune che dobbiamo recuperare.

Giancarlo Mazzanti | I am really a critic of the idea of functionality and effectiveness as the only way of thinking about a project. We continue to develop a project from a functional diagram, almost all of us, and that is why I am interested in certain strategies for developing a project such as play and anomaly. The home remains the space for family rituals. There is also a critique of those ideas that we have somewhat lost, namely of the home as a theatre in life. We talk, we do things, we have become too instrumental. Life has become an instrument for everything. We do "this" to get to "this thing". In that sense, I would like to rediscover the idea of a much more theatrical life, of good manners and other things that I think will make us happier.

Giancarlo Mazzanti | Io veramente sono un critico dell’idea della funzionalità e dell’efficacia come l’unica maniera di pensare un progetto. Continuiamo a sviluppare un progetto da un diagramma funzionale, quasi tutti, ed è per questo che a me interessano alcune strategie per sviluppare un progetto come il gioco e l’anomalia. La casa rimane lo spazio per i riti familiari.

C’è anche una critica a quelle idee che abbiamo un po’ perso, ovvero dell’abitazione come teatro nella vita. Parliamo, facciamo le cose, siamo diventati troppo strumentali. La vita è diventata uno strumento per tutto. Facciamo “questo” per arrivare a “questa cosa”. In quel senso vorrei ritrovare l’idea di una vita molto più teatrale, delle buone maniere e di altre cose che penso ci renderanno più felici.

L.M. | Your work has always unhinged the idea of form/ function, taking this theme towards the relationship between form/pleasure, form/community, form/shared rules, form/ physicality. This is very interesting because the great criticism that we can make of the past century is that it has left us a series of spaces that have aged immediately because they were tied to a function that once finished made the space completely unusable. Perhaps the great criticism we can make of the 20th century is that the spaces that were not as flexible as the spaces built before. So much so that today we are faced with the theme of regeneration because we have to rethink places that have aged quickly. So perhaps the theme of rituals, of play, of pleasure, of wellbeing, becomes a new way of thinking about the places we will inhabit in the coming years.

L.M. | Il tuo lavoro da sempre scardina l’idea di forma/ funzione, portando questa tema verso la relazione tra forma/piacere, forma/comunità, forma/ regole condivise, forma /corpo fisicità. Questo è molto interessante perché la grande critica che noi possiamo fare al secolo passato è che ci ha lasciato una serie di spazi che sono invecchiati subito perché erano legati a una funzione che una volta finita rendeva lo spazio completamente inutilizzabile.

Forse la grande critica al 900 da fare è che gli spazi che non erano flessibili come gli spazi costruiti prima. Tant’è che oggi noi ci confrontiamo con il tema della rigenerazione perché ci dobbiamo ripensare dei luoghi che sono invecchiati velocemente. Allora forse il tema dei riti, del gioco, del piacere, del benessere, diventa un nuovo modo di pensare i luoghi che abiteremo nei prossimi anni.

G.M. | Architecture is an instrument of control. We always start by asking ourselves what we wanted to propitiate with the project. We always want to open up the discourse in which architecture is not really this idea of functionality.

We are interested when we get into the mindset of a project like the Santa Fe Hospital where we put a garden, a game for dancing, other things that can open up this kind of reflection and perspective. There is a beautiful text by Fujimoto in which he talks about the nest and the cave. The nest is only made for one thing, so it can only have one use and then it has to be left behind. Which is a bit like the condition of modern architecture, which is only made for one function. Then there is also the cave, which you can use as you like: you can sleep, you can walk, you can do all sorts of things with it. But this brings me to a point that I am very interested in, which may also be part of my education. Which is the one from the 80s around the concept of typology.

In the end I continue to work with the idea of a type that can have the capacity to accommodate the changes that will come in the next few years, using flexible module systems.

When we think of working with modules, we start with two because we only have the money to make two so we can respect even very limited economies.

Then we can think of a system made of modules that can change over time and that can grow. For the Rome project, which for me was one of the most interesting works I have done in recent years, we worked a lot with a modular typology.

And before you think that a project is finished, you think that it is also a type of unfinished project that others can continue.

This is interesting, we like it a lot, when you go to university you have to be around thirty years old, conditions change, this pandemic has changed everything, especially the way we do teaching, learning all these things.

G.M. | L’architettura è uno strumento di controllo.

Noi cominciamo chiedendoci sempre che cosa volevamo propiziare con il progetto. Vogliamo sempre un po’aprire il discorso in cui l’architettura non è propriamente quest’idea di funzionalità. Siamo interessati quando entriamo nella mentalità di un progetto come l’Ospedale di Santa Fe dove mettiamo un giardino, un gioco per ballare, altre cose che possano aprire questo tipo di riflessione e prospettiva.

C’è un bel testo di Fujimoto in cui parla del nido e della caverna.

Il nido è fatto soltanto per una cosa e allora può avere solo un uso e poi si deve lasciare indietro. Che è un po’ la condizione dell’architettura moderna, che è fatta soltanto per una funzione.

Poi c’è anche la caverna che la puoi usare come vuoi: puoi dormire, puoi camminare, ci puoi fare un sacco di cose.

Però questo mi fa arrivare a un punto che a me interessa molto che può anche essere parte anche della mia educazione.

Che è quella degli anni 80’ intorno al concetto della tipologia.

Alla fine io continuo a lavorare con l’idea di un tipo che può avere la capacità di accogliere i cambiamenti che verranno dei prossimi anni, utilizzando sistemi di moduli flessibili. Quando pensiamo di lavorare con i moduli, cominciamo con due perché abbiamo i soldi solo per farne due così da rispettare economie anche molto limitate. Allora possiamo pensare a un sistema fatto di moduli che possano cambiare nel tempo e che possano crescere.

Per il progetto di Roma, che per me è stato uno dei lavori più interessanti che ho fatto negli ultimi anni, abbiamo lavorato moltissimo con una tipologia modulare.

E prima di pensare che un progetto è finito si pensa che è anche un tipo di progetto incompiuto che gli altri possono continuare.

Questo è interessante, ci piace molto, quando si fa una università deve farsi intorno a trent’anni, le condizioni cambiano, questa della pandemia ha cambiato tutto, anche soprattutto la maniera in cui facciamo insegnamento, apprendimento tutte queste cose.

So when you think of an architecture that can change, and you as the author have finished your work, others can also change it, put a different module, make a different arrangement of the architecture. It is an architecture that can be adapted over time. I always think of these projects not only as design, but from the point of view that they are almost an autobiography. We are interested in an architecture that I could almost define as "dirty", that is, that others can also change, use and transform in an unexpected and future phase, knowing how to adapt to changes.

Allora quando si pensa a un’architettura che possa cambiare e che tu come autore hai finito il tuo lavoro, gli altri lo possono anche cambiare, mettere un modulo diverso, farne anche una disposizione diversa dell’architettura. È un’architettura che può essere adattabile nel tempo. Io ogni volta penso sempre a questi progetti non solo come progettazione ma nell’ottica che siano quasi un’autobiografia. A noi interessa un’architettura che potrei definire quasi “sporca”, ovvero che gli altri possano anche cambiare, usare e trasformare in un fase inattesa e futura sapendosi adattare ai cambiamenti.

L.M. | The project you mentioned, which is a competition for an international biomedical campus that you took part in in Rome, in which you designed a system that was different from the other proposals, with modular elements that could be combined organically, and each element had its own autonomy. The interesting thing is that you have designed an open system, which, as you rightly say, I start to make a project and then this project can change over time because conditions change, society changes, needs change, and today one of the great things about architecture is to think of projects that can accommodate what we cannot imagine for the future.

L.M. | Il progetto che tu citi che è un concorso per un campus biomedico internazionale a cui tu hai partecipato a Roma in cui tu avevi progettato un sistema diverso rispetto alle altre proposte di elementi modulari che organicamente si combinavano e ogni elemento ha un’autonomia in sé.

La cosa interessante è che hai studiato un sistema aperto, che giustamente come dici tu, io inizio a fare un progetto e poi questo progetto può cambiare nel tempo perché cambiano le condizioni, cambia la società, cambiano le necessità e oggi una delle grandi cose importanti dell’architettura sia quello pensare a progetti che abbiano la capacità di accogliere anche quello che noi non ci possiamo immaginare per il futuro.

G.M. | There is one thing that interests me a lot. An architecture that should be neutral, that doesn't have to do more things than it needs to. It's an architecture that doesn't have to do more things, especially thinking about it in the crisis of climate change that we are talking about, an architecture that should be essential, an architecture that doesn't have more things, doesn't need to do more things. An architecture that could be said to have no gestures, no conditions. But the gesture is not a problem of form but also of function.

G.M. | C’è una cosa che mi interessa molto. Un’architettura che dovrebbe essere neutra, che non dobbiamo fare più cose delle cose che sia ha bisogno. È un’architettura che non deve fare più cose, soprattutto pensandola nella crisi del cambiamento climatico in cui stiamo parlando, un’architettura che dovrebbe essere essenziale, un’architettura che non ha cose in più, non ha bisogno di fare cose di più. Un’architettura che si potrebbe dire senza gesti, senza condizione. Però il gesto non come un problema di forma ma anche di funzione.

L.M. | You make architectures that are formally very recognisable, with very clear geometries that are combined with the ability that Baroque architects had to use geometries in a very sophisticated way. They are architectures with a very strong personality. I remember the first time I saw one of your buildings, the "Biblioteca America" in Medellin, and I can assure you that I was very impressed by its formal and material capacity. Your architecture is also architecture that does not go unnoticed.

L.M. | Tu fai delle architetture che sono formalmente molto riconoscibili, con delle geometrie molto chiare che vengono combinate con quella capacità che avevano gli architetti barocchi di usare le geometrie in maniera molto sofisticata. Sono architetture con una fortissima personalità. Io ricordo la prima volta che ho visto una tua architettura che era la “Biblioteca America ” di Medellin, e ti assicuro che ero rimasto molto colpito dalla capacità formale e materica. Le tue architetture sono anche architetture che non passano inosservate.

G.M. | Yes, but facades are never composed, they are never made from a point and a line.

The façade is not a point of discussion in our projects, as if it were a problem of composition.

Because the projects themselves are closer to this idea of arrangement, of arranging the pieces on a territory, and not so much of composing or drawing a kind of architectural object. We are closer to this idea that there is of neutrality. Then now I am much more committed to a much more neutral architecture, which does not need to do more things. In this sense I am more interested in culture and a degrowth society. When we talk about degrowth and we put it in architecture, it's a bit like this. An architecture that doesn't need more, that is very clear. It is not a problem of ethics that should tell the truth because in the end we will never know what the truth is. Neither is postmodernity where the facade tends to have a meaning that no one can read. It is just a façade that has the capacity to be transparent or opaque, as in the hospital in Santa Fe where we wanted to make a hospital open to the city and we put a façade on it that looks like the veil of an Arab woman.

G.M. | Sì ma le facciate non sono mai composte, non sono mai fatte da un punto e una linea.

La facciata non è un punto di discussione dei nostri progetti, come se fosse un problema di composizione.

Perché gli stessi progetti sono più vicini a quest’idea di disposizione, disporre i pezzi su un territorio e non tanto di comporre o disegnare una sorta di oggetto architettonico. Siamo più vicini a quest’idea che c’è di neutralità. Poi adesso sono molto più impegnato in un’architettura molto più neutra, che non ha bisogno di fare più cose. In questo senso sono più interessato a cultura e a una società della decrescita.

Quando parliamo di decrescita e la mettiamo nell’architettura, è un po’ questo. Un’architettura che non ha bisogno di più, che è molto chiara. Non è un problema di etica che dovrebbe dire la verità perché alla fine non sapremo mai quale sia la verità.

Neanche la postmodernità in cui la facciata tende ad avere un significato che nessuno può leggere. È soltanto una facciata che ha la capacità di essere trasparente o opaca, come nell’ospedale di Santa Fe dove abbiamo voluto fare un ospedale aperto alla città e gli abbiamo messo una facciata che sembra il velo di una donna araba.

L.M. | The other big word central to your work is "community". All your works are strongly marked by the relationship between project and community. Schools, gardens, libraries, exhibitions, everything you do is in some way closely linked to the idea of a community that asks for spaces in which to feel good, that asks for relationships at all times of day and night, at all times of the day. A space capable of welcoming very fluid communities, very different from each other according to the different moments of the day and seasons. In relation to this theme, you have built some of your most important works, a whole series of schools, libraries, parks, and in this you have made a decisive mark on the quality of life in Colombia, but also in all of South America, and this is one of the things that has made you internationally recognised, regardless of where you have done it.

L.M. | L’altra grande parola centrale nel tuo lavoro che è la “comunità”. Tutti i tuoi lavori sono fortemente segnati dal rapporto fra progetto e comunità. Scuole, giardini, biblioteche, mostre tutto quello che fai in qualche modo è strettamente collegato all’idea di una comunità che chiede degli spazi in cui stare bene, chiede di relazionarsi in ogni momento del giorno e della notte, in ogni momento del tempo. Uno spazio capace di accogliere comunità molto fluide, molto diverse fra loro aseconda dei diversi momenti della giornata e stagioni. Tu in rapporto a questo tema hai costruito alcune delle tue opere più rilevanti, tutta una serie di scuole, le biblioteche, i parchi e in questo hai segnato decisamente una qualità di vita in Colombia ma in tutto Sud America e questa è una delle cose che ti ha fatto riconoscere a livello internazionale al di là del luogo in cui l’hai fatto.

G.M. | In the end, that's the main objective of the architecture we do. How architecture changes your life, we are not the ones who tell you what you should do, but the work that opens up, that can change, is also thought of as an architecture of care. I am very interested in the architecture of care, of taking care. This idea of architecture that takes care of you, that welcomes you, transforms the city. We have forgotten that the city is not just a functional condition. Then the interest in common things also emerges: "what is the community?" the community is not a general thing, the community is made up of pieces, of differences, and so these different conditions can be put in place to have a life among very different people, which is not thinking that we are a community, but it is something much more abstract.

G.M. | Alla fine è l’obiettivo principale dell’architettura che facciamo. Come l’architettura ti cambia la vita, non siamo quelli che ti dicono cosa dovresti fare però l’opera che si apre, che può cambiare, è pensata anche come un’architettura della cura. Io sono molto interessato all’architettura della cura, del prendersi cura. Questa idea dell’architettura che ti cura, che ti accoglie trasforma la città. Ci siamo dimenticati che la città non è una condizione soltanto funzionale. Poi emerge anche l’interesse per le cose comuni: “che cos’è la comunità?” la comunità non è una cosa generale, la comunità è fatta di pezzi, di differenze e allora si possono mettere queste condizioni diverse per avere una vita fra le persone molto diverse che non è pensare che siamo una comunità ma è una cosa molto più astratta.

L.M. | We move from the prescriptive city to the welcoming city basically. And then there is the idea of community, which Aldo van Eyck was already talking about in the sixties, which is not just an abstract place, the community is made up of bodies, people, desires, physicality, touching, being together, it is an extremely physical and concrete dimension that somehow comes into contact with architecture and puts us in a position where our bodies also condition and change architecture.

There is a corrupting together, a touching together, a changing together of the body of architecture.

L.M. | Passiamo dalla città prescrittiva alla città accogliente fondamentalmente. È poi c’è l’idea di comunità, di cui già Aldo van Eyckparlava negli anni Sessanta, che non è unicamenteun luogo astratto la comunità è formata da corpi da persone da desideri da fisicità dal toccarsi dal stare insieme, è una dimensione estremamente fisica e concreta che in qualche modo entra in contatto con l’architettura e mette in condizione che anche i nostri corpi condizionano e cambiano l’architettura.

C’è un corrompersi insieme, un toccarsi insieme, un modificarsi insieme del corpo dell’architettura.

G.M. | Even the definition of space itself has changed because we have learned a very modern definition of it, which depends on an abstract condition. If we change the way we can arrive at the idea of space, we can certainly create an environment made up of different agents, where people, animals, things are space, transforming it into a condition that is no longer abstract because it is generated by many different actors. This totally changes the idea that space is empty, as if it were an object made to be looked at, a bit of this idea of very modern objectivity, and then that changes for a much more performative architecture closer to contemporary art, where it is not only made by an object but also by a user, climatic conditions, more things that change the conditions.

G.M. | Anche la definizione stessa di spazio è cambiata perché noi abbiamo imparato una sua definizione molto moderna, che dipende da una condizione astratta. Se cambiamo un po’ la maniera in cui si può arrivare all’idea di spazio sicuramente possiamo creare un’ambiente fatto di agenti diversi, dove le persone, gli animali, le cose sono spazio, trasformandolo in una condizione che non è più astratta perchè generata da tanti attori differenti. Questo cambio totalmente l’dea che lo spazio è vuoto come se fosse un oggetto fatto per essere guardato, un po’ quest’idea di oggettualità molto moderna e poi che cambia per un’architettura molto più performativa più vicina all’arte contemporanea in cui non è fatta solo da un oggetto ma anche da un utente, delle condizioni climatiche, più cose che cambiano le condizioni.

L.M. | The underlying theme of this issue of Platform is "touch". Tactility overlaps very well with your work because it is a strongly tactile, physical, sensual work, in which the relationship between the material, the environment, the climate, the people, tells of all this. What does it mean for you to think of an architecture that is strongly sensorial?

L.M. | Il tema di fondo di questo numero di Platform è “touch”, toccare. La tattilità si sovrappone molto bene al tuo lavoro perché è un lavoro fortemente tattile, fisico, sensuale, sensoriale, in cui la relazione fra la materia, l’ambiente il clima, le persone, racconta di tutto questo. Cosa vuol dire per te pensare a un’architettura che sia fortemente sensoriale?

G.M. | In a society that is over-informed and where everything is digital, we are losing the ability to touch objects.

Because objects are disappearing. It is not that they are disappearing because there are a lot of objects that come out all the time, they expire every now and then but we have lost the conditions. Photographs. You used to put old photographs on the table, there was an object to touch, to feel. Now we have four hundred photographs on our iPhones that are not objects, they have no relationship with physical life. The object is something to be touched. Care is a tactile condition of being welcoming. An architecture of things, which can be touched in this case.

G.M. | In una società che è sovra informata e dove tutto è digitale si sta perdendo la capacità di toccare gli oggetti.

Perché gli oggetti stanno sparendo. Non è che stanno sparendo perché ci sono un sacco di oggetti che escono tutto il tempo, scadono ogni tanto ma abbiamo perso le condizioni.

Le fotografie. Le antiche fotografie tu le mettevi sul tavolo, c’era un oggetto da toccare, da sentire. Adesso abbiamo nell’Iphone quattrocento fotografie che non sono oggetti, non hanno un rapporto con la vita fisica. L’oggetto è una cosa da toccare. La cura è una condizione tattile dell’essere accogliente.

Un’architettura delle cose, che si possa toccare in questo caso.

L.M. | So architecture has a huge responsibility in this.

Somehow helping us to get back in physical contact with things, don't you think?

L.M. | In questo quindi l’architettura ha una responsabilità enorme. Può aiutarci a riprendere contatto fisico con le cose, non trovi?

G.M. | Yes, these days people think we could do a digital education, I'm sure we can get information, learn things, but what is much more important in education is that human condition of touching each other, making friends, having time to talk. These days I was saying something to my studio, why don't I go to the studio in Bogota, I keep working at home and I was saying. I am much more effective working at home, but I don't have the studio to talk. To talk about architecture, to talk about life, to have time to discuss a project together is more cooperative.

G.M. | Sì, in questi giorni la gente pensa si potrebbe fare un’educazione digitale, sono sicuro si possano prendere informazioni, imparare cose, ma quello molto più importante dentro l’educazione è quella condizione umana di toccarsi, di farsi degli amici, di avere il tempo per parlare. In questi giorni dicevo una cosa al mio studio, perché non vado in studio a Bogotà, continuo a lavorare in casa e dicevo. Io sono molto più efficace lavorando a casa ma a me manca lo studio per parlare.

Per parlare di architettura, per parlare della vita, per avere tempo di discutere un progetto insieme è più cooperativo.

In recent years the shopping experience has changed its essence, aiming more and more at offering multiple sensations that can be the synthesis of a new lifestyle and not just the manifestation of a brand.

Vudafieri-Saverino Partners and Hangar Design Group's project in Shanghai for Frette and Silky Miracle tries to synthesise this trend by aiming to unite the sales area with leisure time. The concept store on Tongren Street uses an image that is intended to be a filiation of the product itself, proposing a place that appears like a warm embrace.

From the design of the flooring to the story of the ceiling, the sinuosity of the "soft line" becomes the founding element of the design approach. The shop - on two levels houses the sales and display area on the ground floor, while a fluid spiral staircase leads to an art gallery containing selected works of art for temporary exhibitions, evoking the shop's previous function as an art gallery. On the first level it is also possible to stop for a moment's relaxation at a small corner bar where precious marbles and wavy wood panelling walls warm the environment, in continuity with the comfortable atmosphere of the marbles and soft, delicate materials on the ground floor. With this project Vudafieri-Saverino Partners & Hangar Design Group deliver a slow shop in which to enjoy the enveloping sensations of the material between tactile and visual experience.

Negli ultimi anni l’esperienza dello shopping ha mutato la sua essenza puntando sempre di più a concedere sensazioni molteplici che possano essere la sintesi di un nuovo stile di vita e non solo la manifestazione di un brand. Il progetto di Vudafieri Saverino Partners e Hangar Design Group a Shanghai per Frette e Silky Miracle prova a sintetizzare proprio questa tendenza puntando a unire l’area della vendita con il tempo del leisure. Il concept store in Tongren Street utilizza un’immagine che vuole essere una filiazione del prodotto stesso proponendo uno luogo che si manifesta come un caldo abbraccio. Dal disegno della pavimentazione al racconto del soffitto, la sinuosità della “linea molle” si inserisce come elemento fondativo dell’approccio progettuale. Lo shop- su due livelli - ospita al piano terra lo spazio di vendita e allestimento mentre, attraverso una fluida scala a chiocciola, si prosegue il percorso verso una pinacoteca che contiene opere d’arte selezionate per mostre temporanee evocando, così, la precedente funzione dello shop che accoglieva proprio una galleria d’arte. Al primo livello è possibile fermarsi anche per un momento di relax a un piccolo angolo bar dove marmi preziosi e pareti in boiserie in legno ondulata riscaldano l’ambiente, in continuità con l’atmosfera confortevole dei marmi e dei materiali soffici e delicati del piano terra. Vudafieri-Saverino Partners & Hangar Design Group con questo progetto consegnano uno slow shop in cui godere delle sensazioni avvolgenti della materia tra esperienza tattile e visiva.

In cinematography, the use of a prevailing color for the scenography of a film is among the various levels of narration of the story represented and it is useful for emphasizing the emotions and actions of the characters in the scene.

The first sensation one gets when walking through the rooms of this small house is precisely connected to the déjà vu of color, which seems to be the prelude to the future scenes to which the rooms, set up in this way, will act as a backdrop.

Each room, therefore, is assigned a color which, reiterated in

the precious Vietri ceramic tiles and in the custom-designed furnishings, forms the background for the singular ceilings of a very candid white from which, with iridescent geometric rules, descend the trunks of square-based pyramid, upside down, like stereometric luminous stalactites. Thus, the motif defined by the lighting system becomes the indispensable pretext for unifying the chromatic diversity of the environments in a single reason, made up of the visual story constituted, in turn, by the collection of different perspective sequences.

future scene a cui gli ambienti, così allestiti, faranno da scenografia. A ciascuna stanza, dunque, è assegnato un colore che, reiterato nelle pregevoli tessere di ceramica di Vietri e negli arredi disegnati su misura, fa da fondo per dei singolari soffitti di un bianco candidissimo da cui, con regole geometriche cangianti, discendono dei tronchi di piramide a base

quadrata, capovolti, come delle stereometriche stalattiti luminose. Così, il motivo definito dal sistema di illuminazione diviene il pretesto indispensabile per unificare le diversità cromatiche degli ambienti in un’unica ragione, fatta del racconto visivo costituito, a sua volta, dalla collezione di diverse sequenze prospettiche.

Neon signs, plants and lights suspended in transparent spheres, pink ceilings made of organic cellulose, multicoloured furnishings and eclectic flooring - in which wood blends with veined marble - are elements that, at first glance, might give the impression of a space designed for eye-catching photos on social media, as well as to attract the gaze of passers-by. Large windows allow a glimpse from the street into the interior of a project which - in the Vallehermoso district of Madrid - has anything but visual impact as its primary objective.

Run Run Run - designed by Andrés Jaque, head of the Office for Political Innovation - is a hybrid micro-infrastructure whose concept condenses the translation of "domestic" habits into the public sphere, the amalgamation of heterogeneous functions in a versatile environment and the desire to trigger practices of cooperation and confrontation among residents. Aimed primarily at runners, the community centre is configured as a quasioutdoor: a two-storey void which, within the limits of a pre-existing concrete frame, has been shaped to house a collective kitchen, a dining room, a roof garden and some areas dedicated to sportsmen and women, including showers and lockers. Through a programme of activities involving peri-urban farmers, sustainable cooking experts and indoor gardeners, as well as a construction process involving a number of local craftsmen and producers, this project demonstrates that the spirit of collaboration is, to all intents and purposes, one of the materials of an architecture aimed at renewing the use of the city's spaces, rehabilitating the bodies that inhabit it and the links between them.

Insegne al neon, piante e luci sospese in sfere trasparenti, soffitti rosa di cellulosa organica, arredi multicolore e pavimenti eclettici – in cui il legno si fonde col marmo venato – sono elementi che, a primo acchito, potrebbero dare l’impressione di uno spazio pensato per foto accattivanti sui social, oltre che per attirare lo sguardo dei passanti. Ampie vetrate, infatti, lasciano intravedere dalla strada gli interni di un progetto che – nel distretto di Vallehermoso, a Madrid – ha tutt’altro che l’impatto visivo come primo obiettivo.

Run Run Run – firmato da Andrés Jaque, a capo dello studio Office for Political Innovation – è una micro-infrastruttura ibrida, il cui concept condensa la traslazione di abitudini “domestiche” nella sfera pubblica, l’accorpamento di funzioni eterogenee in un ambiente versatile e la volontà di innescare pratiche di cooperazione e confronto tra i residenti. Indirizzato principalmente ai runners, il centro comunitario si configura come un quasi-esterno: un vuoto di due piani che, entro i limiti di un telaio preesistente in cemento, è stato plasmato per ospitare una cucina collettiva, una sala pranzo, un orto pensile e alcune aree dedicate agli sportivi, comprensive di docce e armadietti.

Tramite un programma di attività che coinvolge agricoltori del periurbano, esperti di cucina sostenibile e giardinieri addetti al verde indoor, nonché mediante un iter di costruzione che ha previsto il contributo di più artigiani e produttori locali, questo intervento dimostra come lo spirito collaborativo rientri, a tutti gli effetti, tra i materiali di un’architettura volta a rinnovare l’uso degli spazi della città, per risanare i corpi che la abitano e i legami tra i corpi stessi.

"Nothing man fears more than to be touched by the unknown". So goes the opening line of Elias Canetti's 20th-century masterpiece Mass and Power. But what is this "touch" that inspires such fear? Answering this question means addressing the relationship that man has established with touch. Indeed, Western culture has always connoted this sensation with cultural, religious, ethical and erotic meanings, to the point of making it its own foundation. Without it, it is unthinkable to have a relationship with the other, which necessarily passes through touch.

But let us proceed in order. In the history of Western culture, countless authors have wondered about touching and being touched, ever since Aristotle postulated the association of thought and touch in his Metaphysics. Since then, philosophy has continued to maintain that the faculty of thinking is rooted in the tactile faculty, and in no other. A long tradition of Greek thought - through the Stoics, the Middle Ages, the modern age with Descartes and Spinoza, Merleau-Ponty, Gadamer and Derrida - maintains that of all the senses, it is the keenness of touch that represents the unique power of the human mind. Of all of them, we need only quote Thomas Aquinas: 'the excellence of touch in man is the reason why he is the most foresighted of all animals'; and he continues: 'moreover, among men, it is by virtue of the fineness of touch, and not by the keenness of any other sense, that he who is mentally gifted is distinguished from others'.

What this tradition argues is that without touch we would not be able to open up to common sense, that is, we would not be able to perceive the other, what surrounds us, what is our world - and what we can touch, we can understand and grasp. That is why, as Jacques Derrida wrote in a difficult and beautiful text, "no living thing in the world can survive a single moment without touching, that is, without being touched". And he went on to specify that 'one can live without seeing, hearing, tasting, "feeling" (at least in the olfactory sense), but one will not survive a single moment without being in contact, in touch [...] Our touching is what makes us us and there is no secret to be discovered or hidden behind touching itself'.

The Stoics were right when they postulated that we 'feel' through a kind of 'internal touch' (and the expression gave the title to one of the finest books on the subject, The Inner Touch. Archaeology of a Sensation by Daniel Heller-Roazen), which also allows us to grasp ourselves - that is, to know ourselves, to be aware of ourselves.

«Nulla l’uomo teme di più che essere toccato dall’ignoto». Così recita l’incipit di quel capolavoro del Novecento che è Massa e potere di Elias Canetti. Ma cos’è questo “tocco” che tanta paura incute? Rispondere alla domanda significa affrontare la relazione che l’uomo ha instaurato con il tatto. Da sempre infatti la cultura occidentale ha connotato questa sensazione con accezioni culturali, religiose, etiche, erotiche, tali da farne un suo stesso fondamento. Senza è impensabile il rapporto con l’altro, che passa necessariamente attraverso il tatto.

Ma andiamo con ordine. Nella storia della cultura occidentale gli autori che si sono interrogati sul toccare e sull’esser toccati sono innumerevoli, sin da quando nella sua Metafisica Aristotele postulava l’associazione di pensiero e tatto. Da allora la filosofia ha continuato a sostenere che la facoltà di pensare affonda le sue radici nella facoltà tattile, e in nessun’altra. Una lunga tradizione che dal pensiero greco arriva a noi – attraverso gli stoici, il Medio Evo, e poi l’età moderna con Cartesio e Spinoza sino a Merleau-Ponty e Gadamer e Derrida – sostiene che fra tutti i sensi è proprio l’acutezza del tatto a rappresentare l’unicità della forza della mente umana. Fra tutti basterà citare Tommaso d’Aquino: «l’eccellenza del tatto nell’uomo è la ragione per cui egli è il più previdente fra gli animali»; e continua: «inoltre, fra gli uomini, è in virtù della finezza di tatto, e non per l’acutezza di qualsiasi altro senso, che chi è mentalmente dotato si distingue dagli altri».

Ciò che questa tradizione sostiene è che in fondo senza il tatto non saremmo in grado di aprirci al senso comune, non avremmo cioè la possibilità di percepire l’altro, ciò che ci circonda, ciò che è il nostro mondo ­– e che possiamo toccare, possiamo comprendere e cogliere. Ecco perché, come scriveva Jacques Derrida in un testo difficile e bellissimo, «nessun vivente al mondo può sopravvivere un solo istante senza il tatto, cioè senza essere toccato».

E continuava, precisando, che «si può vivere senza vedere, udire, gustare, “sentire” (almeno nel senso olfattivo), ma non si sopravviverà un solo istante senza essere a contatto, in contatto [...] Il nostro toccare è ciò che ci rende noi e non c’è nessun segreto da scoprire o da nascondere dietro il toccare stesso».

Avevano ragione gli Stoici quando postulavano noi “sentiamo” grazie a una specie di “tatto interno” (e l’espressione ha dato il titolo a uno dei più bei libri sul tema, Il tatto interno. Archeologia di una sensazione di Daniel Heller-Roazen), che ci permette inoltre di cogliere noi stessi – cioè conoscerci, avere coscienza di sé.

“Its job is to provide this in-between realm by means of construction, i.e., to provide, from house to city scale, a bunch of real places for real people and real things” scriveva l’architetto Aldo Van Eyck dell’architettura umana che mirava a creare luoghi che favorissero il dialogo e stimolassero la vita comunitaria. Un concetto che si fa sintesi contemporanea nel progetto “Tipo di spazio” degli studi Palma e Hangar. Nell’interstizio urbano dell'antica Manifattura Tabacchi de La Rioja, a Logroño, il progetto pensato in occasione del “Festival Architettura Concéntrico”, restituisce al vuoto urbano in cui si colloca la sua condizione di spazio costruito.

Dalla casa alla scala della città, lo stretto spazio urbano che si estende tra i due edifici si articola attraverso la concatenazione di stanze quadrate, come una processione di piccoli corridoi e ambienti domestici.

Disposte all’interno di una griglia di quadrati di 3,6 metri, le stanze sono assemblate con mattoni a incastro color terracotta che si rivelano unità materiale e spaziale del progetto. Il vuoto interstiziale, silenzioso, sottratto alla città diventa luogo di esperienze domestiche in comunità, una concatenazione di percezione domestica e intima dell’essere umano, dove la croccantezza della terracotta sotto ai piedi è un invito a rallentare il passo e concedersi più tempo per sentirsi a casa in città.

A concept that becomes a contemporary synthesis in the "Type of space" project by the Palma and Hangar studios. In the urban interstice of the old Tobacco Factory of La Rioja, in Logroño, the project conceived for the "Festival Architettura Concéntrico" restores to the urban void in which it is located its condition of built space. From the house to the scale of the city, the narrow urban space extending between the two buildings is articulated through the concatenation of square rooms, like a procession of small corridors and domestic spaces. Arranged within a grid of 3.6 metre squares, the rooms are assembled with interlocking terracotta-coloured bricks that reveal the material and spatial unity of the project. The interstitial, silent void, removed from the city, becomes a place for domestic experiences in community, a concatenation of domestic and intimate perception of the human being, where the crunchiness of the terracotta underfoot is an invitation to slow down the pace and allow oneself more time to feel at home in the city.

A museum spreads through the historic centre of an ancient Italian city, enriching its sense of mystery and strengthening its mnemonic link with its most famous and visionary son. In Rimini, the Federico Fellini Museum is not housed in a building, but unfolds through a series of wonders connected to the memory of the great Italian director and the characters, tics and places that recall his imagination. Orazio Carpenzano, with his group of designers, the artists of Studio Azzurro and a large team of experts, act through an operation that seems to be an emotional machine rather than a narrative one. Everything looks like a sequence of statues poised between art, architecture and design. The castle lit up in the vapours like the ship in Amarcord, the cantilevered tower with the swing, the circus memory, the muddy sinking of the mechanical vehicles, the golden rhinoceros, all join up with a powerful entrance to the Fulgor cinema, building a population of urban sculptures interpreted with naturalness and audacity. Inside, these objects take on a chromatic richness where each element seems like a set. So, walking through these places, one suddenly finds oneself in spaces to be lived in or simply walked through, unexpected stage sets where one suddenly becomes a protagonist and where architecture builds marvellous devices that transform the city into a theatre, the theatre into a museum, the museum into poetry.

Un museo si diffonde nel centro storico di una antica città italiana arricchendone il senso di mistero e rafforzandone il legame mnemonico col suo figlio più famoso e visionario. A Rimini il Museo Federico Fellini non sta in un edificio, ma si dispiega attraverso una serie di meraviglie connesse alla memoria del grande regista italiano e dei personaggi, dei tic, dei luoghi che riconducono al suo immaginario.

Orazio Carpenzano, con il suo gruppo di progettisti, gli artisti di Studio Azzurro e una folta equipe di esperti, agiscono attraverso una operazione che più che narrativa sembra essere una macchina delle emozioni.

Tutto appare come una sequenza di statue in bilico tra arte architettura e design. Il castello illuminato tra i vapori come la nave di Amarcord, la torre a sbalzo con l’altalena, la memoria circense, gli inabissamenti fangosi dei mezzi meccanici, il rinoceronte d’oro, si uniscono a un potentissimo ingresso per il cinema Fulgor, costruendo una popolazione di sculture urbane interpretate con naturalezza e audacia. Questi oggetti, all’interno, assumono una ricchezza cromatica dove ogni elemento sembra un set. Così, passeggiando in questi luoghi improvvisamente ci si ritrova in spazi da abitare o semplicemente da attraversare, inattese scenografie dove da visitatore si diventa, di colpo, attore protagonista e dove l’architettura costruisce meravigliosi congegni che trasformano la città in teatro, il teatro in museo, il museo in poesia.

An exhibition is simply a narration capable of staging a story and a space. The V Biennale di Fotografia dell'Industria e del Lavoro promoted by MAST, curated by Francesco Zanot, contains 11 different exhibitions. Each exhibition is confronted with historical places in the city, and Francesco Librizzi Studio signs for the second time all the installations. Not an easy task, but one which the architect manages to accomplish in a cultured and original way. Dialoguing where required with the artists, without ever raising the tone of his voice as a talented designer, Librizzi moves with the same lightness as his architecture, listening to the places, underlining their characteristics and managing to accompany visitors through the exhibition without ever distracting them. All the richness of Librizzi's project is enclosed between two extremes: the Esprit Nouveau Pavilion, a fantastic place in the imagination of the modern, and the Mast, a place designed specifically for photography exhibitions. In Le Corbusier's pavilion, Librizzi uses the existing architecture without ever changing its form, and through the mirrored surfaces used as a support he shows Takashi Homma's works and the hidden details of the building at the same time. With delicacy, without nullifying the strength of the photographs, the installation seems to be part of the Swiss master's space. At the Mast, on the other hand, it seems to give concrete form to the radical visions of Superstudio and Archizoom, creating exhibition structures that transform the infinite content of Ando Gilardi's archive into a unique work, made up of light and continuous surfaces that musealise a fragment of the history of our country's image. In the middle of these two extremes we find the play of cross-fertilisation between the space of the Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande art gallery and the Balugun market in Nigeria re-imagined with Lorenzo Vitturi through a highly coloured structure that seems to emerge from the existing space. The installations also include an attempt to construct a totally enveloping and immersive micro-architecture that defines the viewing space for Herbert List's photographs of Favignana at Palazzo Fava. This staging of many different stories has the merit of never being self-referential, of being able to interpret the logic of the curator, and of exalting and interpreting the work of the artists in the best possible way. One has to go back in time to the great designers of the post-war period to find the same strength in a work of staging.

Un allestimento è semplicemente una narrazione capace di mettere in scena un racconto e uno spazio. La V Biennale di Fotografia dell’Industria e del Lavoro promossa dal MAST, curata da Francesco Zanot, contiene al suo interno 11 mostre diverse. Ogni mostra si confronta con luoghi storici della città, Francesco Librizzi Studio firma per la seconda volta tutti gli allestimenti. Un compito non facile, ma che l’architetto riesce a compiere in modo colto e originale. Dialogando dove richiesto con gli artisti, senza mai alzare il tono della sua voce di progettista di talento, Librizzi si muove con la stessa leggerezza della sua architettura, ascoltando i luoghi, sottolineandone le caratteristiche e riuscendo ad accompagnare il visitatore a visitare la mostra senza mai distrarsi. Tutta la ricchezza allestitiva del progetto di Librizzi è racchiusa tra due estremi: il Padiglione dell’Esprit Nouveau, luogo fantastico nell’immaginario del moderno, e il Mast, luogo pensato espressamente per le mostre di fotografia. Nel padiglione di Le Corbusier, Librizzi usa l’architettura esistente senza mai modificarne la forma e attraverso le superfici specchianti usate come supporto mostra allo stesso tempo le opere di Takashi Homma e i dettagli nascosti dell’edificio. Con delicatezza, senza annullare la forza delle fotografie, l’allestimento sembra da sempre essere parte dello spazio del maestro svizzero. Al Mast, invece, sembra dare forma concreta alle visioni radicali dei modelli di Superstudio e Archizoom, creando strutture espositive che trasformano il contenuto infinito dell’archivio di Ando Gilardi in un’opera unica, fatta di luce e superfici continue che musealizzano un frammento della storia dell’immagine del nostro paese. In mezzo a questi due estremi troviamo il gioco di sguardi incrociati tra lo spazio della pinacoteca di Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande e il mercato di Balugun in Nigeria reimmaginato con Lorenzo Vitturi attraverso una struttura coloratissima che sembra emergere dallo spazio esistente.

Non manca tra gli allestimenti il misurarsi con la costruzione di una microarchitettura totalmente avvolgente e immersiva, che definisce lo spazio della visione delle foto su Favignana di Herbert List a Palazzo Fava. Questa messa in scena, di tanti racconti diversi, ha il merito di non essere mai autoreferenziale, di saper interpretare la logica del curatore, e di esaltare e interpretare al meglio il lavoro degli artisti. Bisogna tornare indietro nel tempo ai grandi designer del dopoguerra per trovare la stessa forza in un lavoro di allestimento.

Database, Network, Interface are three very important words when we associate them with the transmission of information of all kinds The world of the Internet gives access to an enormous amount of data that we have to sift through, sort and use for our work every day. An infinite access to information which is not always a good thing This book, which was also an exhibition organised at the Lausanne Polytechnic, explores the role that architecture has played in the representation and organisation of knowledge. Indeed, stone architectures have been the origin of systems that structure access to information With only one difference: over the centuries, architecture has constructed the physical relationships between virtual contents. Through analogical associations, specific architectural elements (walls, windows, stairs) and drawings (plans, sections, elevations) can be seen as structuring tools that define, communicate or order contents. The book is divided into three parts that are a direct reference to the three words of the title: Database the library, Network the archive, Interface the museum. A single image, in black and white against a black background, as if to suggest the system of collecting survivals that Warburg sought in the images he catalogued in his Atlas. The images seem to have been dried and rendered as diagrams, all in the same proportion; they are used to narrate, to suggest further investigation, accompanied by short, precise texts that seem to have come straight from Carver's pen. The Warburg Institute's classification diagrams, the diagrams of Cedric Price and Gordon Pask's Oxford Corner House, the Palace of Memory, Buckminster Fuller's Notebooks all flow before our eyes. The book is a unique and intelligent opportunity to reflect on the profound significance of the changes that digital culture has brought to architecture, but it is also a declaration of love for the discipline of architecture, its history and insights that reach from the past to the present and in a certain sense help us prefigure future changes.

Database, Network, Interface sono tre parole molto importanti quando le associamo alla trasmissione di informazioni di ogni tipo. Il mondo di Internet dà accesso ad un enorme quantità di dati che ogni giorno dobbiamo scandagliare, ordinare e utilizzare per il nostro lavoro.

Un accesso infinito all’informazione che non sempre è una cosa positiva.

Questo libro, che è stata anche una mostra organizzata al Politecnico di Losanna, esplora il ruolo che l’architettura ha avuto nella rappresentazione e organizzazione della conoscenza. Le Architetture di pietra, infatti, sono state l’origine di sistemi che strutturano l’accesso alle informazioni.

Con una sola differenza: l’architettura ha costruito nei secoli le relazioni fisiche tra contenuti virtuali. Attraverso associazioni analogiche, specifici elementi architettonici (muri, finestre, scale) e disegni (piante, sezioni, prospetti) possono essere visti come strumenti strutturanti che definiscono, comunicano o ordinano i contenuti. Il libro si articola in tre parti che sono un riferimento diretto alle tre parole del titolo: Database la biblioteca, Network L’archivio, Interface il museo. Un’unica immagine, in bianco e nero su uno sfondo nero, quasi a suggerire il sistema di raccolta delle sopravvivenze che Warburg cercava nelle immagini che catalogava nel suo Atlante. Le immagini sembrano asciugate e rese come diagrammi tutte nella stessa proporzione, sono usate per raccontare, per suggerire approfondimenti, le accompagnano testi brevi precisi che sembrano usciti dalla penna di Carver. Scorrono sotto i nostri occhi gli schemi di classificazione del Warburg Institute, i diagrammi della Oxford Corner House di Cedric Price e Gordon Pask, il palazzo della Memoria, i Quaderni di Buckminster Fuller. Il libro è un’occasione unica e intelligente per riflettere sul significato profondo dei cambiamenti che la cultura digitale ha apportato all’architettura, ma è anche una dichiarazione d’amore per la disciplina architettonica, la storia e le intuizioni che dal passato giungono fino all’oggi e in un certo senso ci aiutano a prefigurare cambiamenti futuri.

FAST FORWARD: DAL FUTURO AL FUTURO

L’habitat contemporaneo immaginato nelle utopie domestiche degli anni ‘50 e ‘60.

In the film Fast Foward, a scientific experiment induces a temporary shift in collective perception.

Suddenly all the inhabitants of the Earth move forward in time by twenty-one years, and can see a few minutes of their future while their bodies remain unconscious. When the world awakens, there are those who have observed devastating or depressing events, those who have seen their dreams and wishes come true, and those who have found absolutely nothing. In this book, which inaugurates a new series on architecture - and this is good news in a publishing world that no longer believes in the discipline - we find projects that interpolate the dimensions of Architecture and Design, affirming that it is still possible to do research through the practice of design. The aim of this volume is to undertake a journey similar to that of the film through architecture, verifying the characteristics of projects at the moment in which that future became present: Whicita House, Maison Tropicale, House of the Future, developed in the 1950s and 1960s, are just a few examples (there are ten case studies selected), which when observed today tell us new things about society, techniques, forms, but also about the thoughts and optimism of architects.

Nel Film Fast Foward un esperimento scientifico induce un temporaneo spostamento della percezione collettiva. Improvvisamente tutti gli abitanti della Terra vanno avanti nel tempo di ventun anni, e possono così vedere alcuni minuti del loro futuro mentre i loro corpi rimangono in stato d'incoscienza.

Quando il mondo si risveglia c'è chi ha osservato eventi devastanti o deprimenti, chi ha visto realizzare i suoi sogni e desideri, chi non ha trovato assolutamente nulla. In questo libro che inaugura una nuova collana di architettura - e questa è una bella notizia in un mondo dell’editoria che non crede più nella disciplina - troviamo progetti che interpolano la dimensione dell’Architettura e quella del Design affermando che sia ancora possibile fare ricerca attraverso la pratica del progetto.L’obiettivo di questo volume è di intraprendere un viaggio simile a quello del film per mezzo dell’architettura, verificando le caratteristiche dei progetti nel momento in cui quel futuro è diventato presente: Whicita House, Maison Tropicale, House of the Future, sviluppate negli anni ’50 e ’60 del XX secolo, sono solo alcuni esempi (i casi studio selezionati sono dieci), che se osservati oggi ci raccontano cose nuove sulla società, sulle tecniche, sulle forme, ma anche sui pensieri e sull’ottimismo degli architetti.

POSTHUMAN ARCHITECTURES

Can there be architecture without people living in it? How can the term post-human coincide with a discipline that has always placed humans at the centre of its universe? Jacopo Leveratto's book answers these questions by identifying spatial archetypes in which humans are not the centre of investigation. It is precisely through these archetypes that new spatial typologies inhabited by multiple species can emerge. The archetypes of post-human architecture reopen a discourse that has not always been consistently addressed by architectural historians and designers. New scenarios open up in which architecture cannot necessarily be produced and built only for people. There is as yet no qualitative research on such a topical issue, and this book seeks to highlight a territory of new design possibilities. The archetypal models of posthuman architecture range from Henry David Thoreau's hut to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and hybrid spaces such as Cedric Price's large aviaries for the London Zoo. Each example is treated with new attention and analysed through new analytical parameters. Ten monographic architectural narratives take shape, designed to trace the evolution of a broader idea of coexistence between man and other species, without ever forgetting the totally human technique that produced them. This means that perhaps there is hope for restoring meaning to architecture at a time when many of the discipline's certainties have been lost.

Può esistere un’architettura senza uomini ad abitarla? Il termine post umano come può coincidere con una disciplina che ha sempre messo al centro del proprio universo gli uomini? Il libro di Jacopo Leveratto risponde a queste domande individuando archetipi spaziali in cui gli umani non sono il centro dell’indagine. Proprio attraverso questi archetipi possono emergere nuove tipologie spaziali abitate da più specie. Gli archetipi di architettura post umana riaprono un discorso non sempre affrontato in modo coerente dagli storici di architettura e dai progettisti. Si aprono nuovi scenari in cui l’architettura non necessariamente può essere prodotta e costruita solo per le persone. Non esistono ancora ricerche qualitative su un tema così attuale e questo libro cerca di evidenziare un territorio di nuove possibilità di progetto.I modelli archetipici dell'architettura postumana vanno dalla capanna di Henry David Thoreau allo Svalbard Global Seed Vault, passando per spazi ibridi come le grandi voliere di Cedric Price realizzate per lo Zoo di Londra. Ogni esempio è trattato con una nuova attenzione e analizzato attraverso nuovi parametri analitici. Prendono forma così dieci racconti monografici di architettura, pensati per tracciare l'evoluzione di un'idea allargata di convivenza tra l'uomo e le altre specie, senza scordare mai la tecnica totalmente umana che le ha prodotte. Questo significa che forse esiste una speranza per restituire significato all’architettura in un momento in cui molte delle certezze disciplinari sono venute a mancare.

Contemporary work practices have a relational dynamism that implies creating spatial complexity in its sites and rethinking consolidated typologies.

Increased reliance on external spaces (including homes), flexible use of environments, multiplication and diversification of spaces of relationship and collaboration are just a few of the new requests brought on by workers and companies. In recent years, the ideal habitat of an office seems to want to compare itself to almost an entire city, rather than with a single activity: organic, stratified, incremental in space and adaptive and in the times that pass through and transform it. In the fit-out project for the new NTT Data headquarters in Milan, articulated in 16 floors, the core principle is making each floor unique in layout, materials and furnishing, in order to recreate the complexity of urban life inside the building.

Spaces and layouts of the floors echo typically urban structures and situations, that by nature and character generate indeterminate relationships: squares, stairways, balconies, courtyards. The building is therefore configured as a small diverse world that fits perfectly with the main activities of relational and collective nature to which workplaces will be increasingly destined.

Dal dinamismo relazionale delle pratiche lavorative contemporanee nasce l’esigenza di complessità spaziale dei luoghi che le accolgono e un ripensamento delle tipologie consolidate. Un maggior ricorso a spazi esterni (inclusa la propria abitazione), un uso flessibile degli ambienti, la moltiplicazione e diversificazione della tipologia di spazi di relazione e di collaborazione, infatti, sono solo alcune delle principali nuove richieste dei lavoratori e delle aziende. Negli ultimi anni l’habitat ideale di un ufficio sembra volersi confrontare, più che con una singola attività, quasi con un’intera città: organica, stratificata, incrementale negli spazi e adattiva e nei tempi che l’attraversano e la trasformano. Per il progetto di fit out della nuova sede direzionale di NTT Data a Milano, articolata su 16 piani, l’operazione principale è stata quella di rendere ogni piano unico per layout, materiali e arredi, riproponendo all’interno dell’edificio quello stesso tipo di complessità che si ritrova nella vita urbana. Anche l’interno di ogni singolo piano riprende, attraverso gli spazi e gli allestimenti, quelle situazioni tipicamente urbane che sono capaci per natura e carattere di generare relazioni indeterminate: piazze, scalinate, terrazze, corti. L’edifico si configura quindi come un piccolo mondo variegato che si sposa perfettamente con le attività prevalenti di natura relazionale e collettiva cui le sedi di lavoro saranno sempre più destinate.

The HQ Saint-Gobain building is the building material production of the showroom of all the Group's materials, declined and produced in various shapes and sizes. Principioattivo succeeded in creating a building that was the real and physical image of the leading solutions, glass, dry systems and mineral insulation, using them in every detail, shape and type.

A visible and usable pleasure for both those who live in it and those who visit it, to be experienced in an envelope of about 4500 square metres, distributed over four covered operating floors, plus a fifth used as a roof terrace and another basement for parking spaces. Light, both natural and artificial, plays in different ways with the materials used, glass and dry systems, creating different atmospheres and paths.

Natural light fills and controls the space, while artificial light gives rhythm to it and defines its rhythm. The ground floor is the heart of the project, an original, atypical showroom designed and built to be inspired by a type of flat in its meaning of living area, library and outdoor space. The first floor contains individual spaces divided by operational divisions; the second floor is more representative for its rhythmic use of glass. On the third floor the single space is marked by partitions made of drywall systems and glass.

Acoustic comfort is ensured not only by the materials of the vertical partitions - drywall systems, mineral insulation and laminated glass - but also by the use of hanging soundabsorbing panels, creating sinuous and pleasant movements within the space.

L’edificio HQ Saint-Gobain è la produzione materica edilizia dello show-room di tutti i materiali del Gruppo, declinati e realizzati in varie forme e dimensioni. Principioattivo è riuscito a creare un edificio che fosse immagine reale e fisica delle soluzioni di punta, vetro, sistemi a secco e isolanti minerali, utilizzandoli in ogni dettaglio, forma e tipologia. Un piacere visibile e fruibile sia per chi lo vive che per chi lo visita da percorrere in un involucro di circa 4500 mq, distribuiti in quattro piani operativi coperti, più un quinto adibito a terrazza in copertura e un altro interrato per posti auto. La luce, naturale e artificiale, gioca in modo diverso con i materiali utilizzati, il vetro e i sistemi a secco, creando atmosfere e percorsi differenti. La luce naturale riempie lo spazio e comanda, quella artificiale lo cadenza e ne definisce il ritmo. Il piano terra rappresenta il cuore del progetto, uno showroom originale e atipico pensato e realizzato ispirandosi a una tipologia di appartamento nelle sue accezioni di area living, library e spazio esterno. Al piano primo vengono collocati singoli spazi suddivisi per divisioni operative ; il piano secondo è più rappresentativo per l’utilizzo cadenzato del vetro. Al piano terzo lo spazio unico è scandito da setti realizzati con sistemi a secco e vetro. Il comfort acustico viene garantito non solo dai materiali delle partizioni verticali – sistemi a secco, isolanti minerali e vetro stratificato – ma anche attraverso l’uso di pannelli fonoassorbenti pendinati, creando movimenti sinuosi e piacevoli all’interno dello spazio.

suite The new Marketing Suite designed for Goldman Sachs in Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Milan combines traditional spaces with informal working areas and meeting areas, responding to the needs of new and evolving models of workspaces. The suite is configured to allow people to move fluently between the welcome area, a lounge, and a meeting room up to a proper working room. The organization and design of the spaces arise from the constraints imposed by the existing building. The presence of beams of reduced height and the consequent perception of a fragmented space has stimulated the design of devices that incorporate the beams themselves: the reflective metal paneling hides the structural elements and increases the perception of the spatial dimension.

Furniture and materials of different nature organized on a geometric carpet define the character of this space: the plastic and metal surfaces reflect the plants, the boiserie, and the national walnut floor modulated with the typical cuts of marble, the texture of the concrete panels relates to the porosity of the fabrics.

La nuova Marketing Suite realizzata per Goldman Sachs in Corso Vittorio Emanuele a Milano reinterpreta l’ambiente lavorativo mescolando habitat diversi e materiali contrastanti. Le aree di lavoro e di incontro informali si combinano con ambienti più tradizionali. La configurazione continua dello spazio garantisce un utilizzo fluido dei diversi ambienti, dall’ingresso si accede alla lounge e attraverso una sala riunioni circolare si può raggiungere l’area di lavoro. La presenza di travi di altezza ridotta e la conseguente percezione di uno spazio frammentato ha poi stimolato la progettazione di dispositivi in grado di dissimulare e inglobare gli elementi strutturali: la pannellatura riflettente nasconde la struttura e allo stesso tempo aumenta la percezione spaziale dell’ambiente. Il pavimento viene rivestito con un tappeto dalla trama geometrica sul quale oggetti e materiali di molteplice natura si poggiano definendo il carattere dei diversi spazi: le piante si riflettono sulle superfici plastiche e metalliche, la boiserie e il pavimento in noce nazionale vengono modulati secondo i tipici tagli del marmo, la granulosità dei pannelli in cemento si relaziona con la porosità dei tessuti.

Large, well-organized spaces are necessary to meet the new needs of workers, especially now, in the post-covid era. These are the new offices of the multinational Medtronic’s Milan headquarters, located inside the Raimondi building on the La Forgiatura Campus.

The concept behind the new interior project, designed by Studio Giuseppe Tortato Architetti, started with the idea of creating an innovative work space, centered around sharing and connection, where those who spend time there every day are the same people who support, design and implement a new work experience. From the choice of colors that recall Medtronic's brand identity, to the organization of the spaces in a way that reflects Medtronic’s corporate philosophy: the importance of centering the project around the individuals who will use those spaces, bringing them into the foreground, generating involvement and synergies.

On the ground floor a 60-seat lab arena was created with a large staircase and versatile furnishing solutions that make it adaptable according to the occasion and needs: from a room for presentations, to meeting rooms, to a space for workshops. The regular shape of the environment also allowed the creation of a wave wall on which to install a 3x3 video wall which conceals a wardrobe area.

On the 7th floor a space has been provided for sales representatives to welcome doctors.

It also features lounge areas that can be used for meetings and gatherings. On the intervening floors, the second, third and sixth, three areas of approximately 50/70 square meters were created. These areas feature smart furnishings that can be used for meetings, brainstorming, focus areas, etc.

Sono i nuovi uffici della sede di Milano della multinazionale Medtronic, situati all’interno dell’edificio Raimondi nel Campus de La Forgiatura. Il nuovo progetto d’interior, che vede la firma dello Studio Giuseppe Tortato Architetti, è stato concepito con l’idea di dare vita a uno spazio di lavoro innovativo, di condivisione e connessione, dove sono le stesse persone che lo vivono ogni giorno a sostenere, disegnare e concretizzare una nuova esperienza di lavoro. Dalla scelta dei colori guida che richiamano la brand identity di Medtronic, all’organizzazione degli spazi nel rispetto della filosofia aziendale di Medtronic: mettere in primo piano e al centro l’individuo che usufruirà di quegli spazi, generando coinvolgimento e sinergie. Al piano terra è stata realizzata un’arena lab da 60 posti a sedere con una grande scalinata e soluzioni di arredo versatili che la rendono utilizzabile come sala per presentazioni, sala meeting, spazio per workshop. L’ambiente ha permesso la creazione di una parete a onda su cui installare a filo un videowall 3x3 che cela, nello spazio retrostante, una zona guardaroba. Al 7° piano è stato previsto uno spazio di rappresentanza per accogliere medici e presentare le novità di Medtronic, con aree lounge sfruttabili per meeting e incontri. Nei piani inframezzati, il secondo, il terzo e il sesto, sono state ricavate tre aree di circa 50/70 mq dove sono state create aree flessibili con arredi smart utilizzate per meeting, brain storming, focus area.

Michelle Vine, a celebrated and award-winning Australian artist, describes with these words the importance of touch in our lives and, through her art, seeks to wrest the dominance of sight from the artistic process, to bring awareness back to the physical, tactile experience. Michelle wants to bring the attention of the art world - and beyond - to the full range of sensory perceptions available to human beings, demonstrating how much our skin can "see" deeper than the eyes. Her installations take the visitor into a playful, unusual world, where the prohibition to touch the works is totally banished.

Soft and sensual, her works are to be fully experienced, and we met Michelle to discover the immense power of a hug.

Michelle Vine, celebre e premiata artista Australiana, descrive con queste parole l’importanza del tatto nella nostra vita e, attraverso la sua arte, cerca di strappare alla vista il dominio nell’esperienza artistica, per riportare consapevolezza sull’esperienza fisica, tattile appunto.

Michelle vuole riportare l’attenzione del mondo dell’arte – e non solo – sull’intera gamma di percezioni sensoriali di cui dispone l’essere umano, dimostrando quanto la nostra pelle possa “vedere” persino più in profondità degli occhi. Le sue installazioni portano il visitatore in un mondo giocoso, insolito, dove il divieto di toccare è totalmente bandito.

Morbide e sensuali, le sue opere sono da vivere appieno. Abbiamo incontrato Michelle, per scoprire l’immenso potere di un abbraccio.

How would you describe your artistic approach?

During my creative process I collect materials according to how they feel physically, curating a rich palette of sensations and surfaces to draw inspiration from. These elements include textiles, household things, and other repurposed materials. I use humor to alter their forms and function into items for care, comfort and sensory play. For example, the Comfort Objects series are wearable soft sculptures that the audiences are invited to take off the gallery walls and hold for as long as they need.

A key goal of my practice is to create playful positive and body art experiences that allow for great inclusion of audiences of diverse ages backgrounds and abilities. I am very passionate about creating art experiences that minimize exclusion. Often individuals will have multiple access needs, so designing for just one aspect of impairment is not the way I approach my work.

My preferred approach is to use universal design principles to address to needs of those who are traditionally most excluded and marginalized in gallery spaces.

Come descriveresti il tuo approccio artistico?

Durante il mio processo creativo raccolgo materiali in base a come li sento fisicamente, e li dispongo in una ricca tavolozza di sensazioni e superfici da cui trarre ispirazione. Questi elementi includono tessuti, oggetti domestici e altri materiali di recupero. Uso l'umorismo per alterare le loro forme e funzioni, trasformandoli in oggetti per la cura, il comfort e il gioco sensoriale.

Per esempio, la serie Comfort Objects è composta da sculture morbide indossabili che il pubblico è invitato a staccare dalle pareti della galleria e a tenere per tutto il tempo di cui ha bisogno. Un obiettivo chiave della mia pratica è quello di creare esperienze ludiche positive e di body art, che permettano una grande inclusione del pubblico di diverse età e abilità.

Ci tengo molto a creare esperienze artistiche che riducano al minimo l'esclusione. Spesso le persone hanno molteplici esigenze di accesso, quindi progettare per un solo aspetto della menomazione non è il modo in cui approccio il mio lavoro. Il mio metodo preferito è quello di utilizzare i principi del design universale, all'interno degli spazi delle gallerie, per rispondere alle esigenze di coloro che sono tradizionalmente più esclusi ed emarginati.

This topic touches you personally: how has your way of perceiving the world influenced your art?

My experience of the world has always been one of heightened sensory experience since childhood, as I am autistic and ADHD, though not diagnosed until I was an adult. I also have an immune system dysregulation (AERD) and autoimmune arthritis that also affect my senses. Often, I cannot focus my vision due to inflammation. My hearing and auditory processing is affected. For over 20 years, I was not able to smell or taste, until a new medical treatment became available to me very recently. It was profound to experience having all that missing sensory input suddenly switch back on. It took a while to adjust, and I found myself deeply affected by simple sensory pleasures like the smell of the air just before it rains, or the complex flavor profile of garlic. I have become acutely attuned to my senses and how their functioning, and their relationship to each other, changes over time, especially given the cyclical nature of being both neurodivergent and chronically ill. Touch therefore is my body’s dependable silent interface for perception and a source of deep personal comfort.

I really lean into and celebrate my sensory differences through the work I make. When brought to the fore in the art experience, touch allows me to create joyful moments of connection with diverse audiences. I think that my heightened awareness and sensory sensitives are a unique lens which enables me to think beyond the traditions of the white cube and create immersive multi-sensory installations that can help recover the primacy of touch in a pleasurable way.

Have you ever worked on a project conceived exclusively for the blind or visually impaired?

My recent exhibition, Soft Touch, was developed to address access needs of gallery visitors who are wheelchair users, deaf or hard of hearing, blind or with low vision, neurodivergent, and intellectual disabled. I acknowledge the diversity of disabled experiences and that people often have competing access needs. By designing the exhibition in this way, I engaged a team of mentors with different disabilities to my own and I facilitated co-design tactile workshops within the community and in local high needs disability organizations. This collaborative approach was very insightful and inspiring. I wanted to make sure that the art works themselves were designed with inclusion in mind. I have received so many the lovely messages from parents thanking me for creating a space that felt safe for them to bring their disabled children to play and enjoy.

Questo argomento ti tocca personalmente: in che modo il tuo modo di percepire il mondo ha influenzato la tua arte?

La mia percezione del mondo è sempre stata un'esperienza sensoriale accentuata fin dall'infanzia, dato che sono autistica e con ADHD (disturbo da deficit di attenzione/iperattività), sebbene non sia stata diagnosticata fino all'età adulta. Ho anche una disregolazione del sistema immunitario (AERD) e un'artrite autoimmune che influenzano anche i miei sensi. Spesso non riesco a mettere a fuoco la vista a causa dell'infiammazione. Il mio udito e l'elaborazione uditiva sono compromessi. Per oltre 20 anni, non sono stata in grado di sentire gli odori o i sapori, fino a quando un nuovo trattamento medico è diventato disponibile per me, molto recentemente. È stata un'esperienza davvero intensa il poter riaccendere all'improvviso tutti gli input sensoriali, che fino a quel momento erano assenti. C'è voluto un po' per abituarmi, e sono rimasta profondamente colpita da semplici piaceri olfattivi come l'odore dell'aria appena prima che piova, o il complesso profilo aromatico dell'aglio. Sono entrata molto in sintonia con i miei sensi e con il modo in cui il loro funzionamento, e la loro relazione reciproca, cambia nel tempo, specialmente data la natura ciclica dell'essere neuro divergente e malata cronica. Il tatto è quindi l'interfaccia silenziosa e affidabile del mio corpo per la percezione e una fonte di profondo conforto personale.

Attraverso il lavoro che faccio, mi immergo e celebro le mie differenze sensoriali. Quando viene portato in primo piano nell'esperienza artistica, il tatto mi permette di creare momenti gioiosi di connessione con pubblici diversi. Penso che la mia consapevolezza accresciuta e i miei sensi siano una lente unica che mi permette di pensare oltre le tradizioni del “white cube” e di creare installazioni multisensoriali immersive, che possono aiutare a recuperare il primato del tatto in modo piacevole.

Hai mai lavorato ad un progetto concepito esclusivamente per non vedenti o ipovedenti?

La mia mostra attuale, Soft Touch, è stata sviluppata per affrontare le esigenze di inclusione dei partecipanti con disabilità che sono su sedia a rotelle, sordi o con problemi di udito, persone cieche e ipovedenti, persone neuro divergenti con particolare attenzione all'autismo e ai disturbi di elaborazione sensoriale e persone con disabilità intellettuali.

Riconosco la diversità dei bisogni dei disabili e il fatto che le persone presentano spesso esigenze di accesso differenti. Durante la progettazione della mostra, ho coinvolto un team di tutor con disabilità diverse dalla mia e ho promosso dei workshop di co-design tattile all'interno della comunità e nelle organizzazioni locali di disabili con elevate necessità. Questo approccio collaborativo è stato molto istruttivo e stimolante. Volevo assicurarmi che le stesse opere d'arte fossero progettate tenendo conto dell'inclusione. Ho ricevuto tanti bei messaggi da genitori che mi ringraziavano per aver creato uno spazio che li faceva sentire tranquilli nel portare i loro bambini disabili a giocare e divertirsi.

The exhibition City of God. City of Men. Dantean architecture and urban utopias is a composition of three souls. There is a first part that puts together the original plans of the Danteum, designed in 1938 for the Regime by the rationalist architects Giuseppe Terragni and Pietro Lingeri, representing a building dedicated to the Divine Comedy and that was to be built along Via dell'Impero in Rome. A project that never saw the light of day, but which has been depicted on 25 beautiful panels, exhibited to the public for the first time.

Together with the Danteum, the board of the Ideal City - a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance and heritage of the Gallery of the Ducal Palace of Urbino - is presented: both were created following the principle of the golden section and are exhibited together, creating a powerful conceptual and visual mirroring. These two ideal visions, created in very different historical moments, belong to a typically Italian way of thinking about the city and its relationship with history and vision. In the third part of the exhibition there are 140 original drawings, which are the contribution of as many contemporary Italian architects belonging to five different generations, who have worked on the principle of redesigning the section of the Divine Comedy. This is the only exhibition that, during the year dedicated to the celebrations of Dante, compares architecture with the numbers of the Divine Comedy. It is an exhibition that proposes an observation on the sense of the project as a visionary act but using the Divine Comedy as an opportunity to reflect on contemporaneity.

La mostra Città di Dio. Città degli uomini. Architettura dantesche e utopie urbane è una composizione di tre anime. C’è una prima parte che mette assieme le tavole originali del Danteum, progettate nel 1938 per il Regime dagli architetti razionalisti Giuseppe Terragni e Pietro Lingeri, rappresentanti un edificio dedicato alla Divina Commedia e che doveva essere realizzato lungo via dell’Impero. Un progetto che non ha mai visto la luce, ma che è stato raffigurato su 25 tavole bellissime, esposte al pubblico per la prima volta. Assieme al Danteum viene presentata la tavola della Città ideale - capolavoro del Rinascimento italiano e patrimonio della Galleria del Palazzo Ducale di Urbino: entrambe sono state realizzate seguendo il principio della sezione aurea e vengono esibite assieme, dando vita ad un rispecchiamento concettuale e visivo potentissimo. Queste due visioni ideali, create in momenti storici molto diversi, appartengono ad un modo tipicamente italiano di pensare la città ed il suo rapporto con la storia e con la visione.

Nella terza parte della mostra sono presenti 140 tavole originali, che sono il contributo di altrettanti architetti italiani contemporanei appartenenti a cinque diverse generazioni, che hanno lavorato sul principio del ridisegno della sezione della Divina Commedia.

Si tratta dell’unica mostra che, durante l’anno dedicato alle celebrazioni dantesche, mette a confronto l’architettura con i numeri della Divina Commedia. È un’esposizione che propone un’osservazione sul senso del progetto come atto visionario, usando però la Divina Commedia come un’occasione per riflettere sulla contemporaneità.

Co-presented by the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection and the Centre Pompidou, this first-ever retrospective of Charles Ray’s work in France is unprecedented in size, taking place at both institutions. Charles Ray began his career in minimalist art, gradually heading towards sculpture and representation in the 1990s, ultimately arriving at his trademark hyperrealism. Turned into sculptures, the beings and everyday objects used as models disorient us with their changes in scale, seemingly imperceptible discrepancies, and transpositions.

Maxima 2.2 is Cesar's design and creative system that stands out for its transversality and functionality combined with unique elegance. In its presentation of the latest evolutions of Maxima 2.2, the new 2021 catalogue (designed and edited under the artistic direction of Garcia Cumini) highlights the desire to offer modern, stylish, and simple products, in a creative and emotional journey told through the photographs of Andrea Ferrari and enriched by the sophisticated styling of Studiopepe.

In an open domestic environment without any walls – a common thread in the careful design of all Cesar home elements – the Maxima 2.2 system can be integrated into The 50’s, a contemporary reinterpretation of the bookcase and storage systems of the 1950s.

Thanks to its versatility, The 50’s structure permits small appliance, oven, and wine cellar installations, as well as compartments for kitchen components such as open and closed storage areas, and bottle or glass holders. By organising and arranging the glass shelves to envision a more eclectic use of furnishings and moving away from the functional constraints of dining areas, the wall system designed by Garcia Cumini elegantly lends itself to unite harmoniously the different domestic environments. Maxima 2.2 also dialogues harmoniously with Dressup, a Cesar project designed to furnish the spaces between kitchen bases and wall units innovatively. The solution has been further developed and it can now be used to furnish different areas of the house creatively and elegantly. Technology and lightness are the two inspiring principles that have permitted the reversal of the storage drawer paradigm, moving from a traditional, horizontal structure to a vertical model.

Maxima 2.2, inoltre, dialoga armoniosamente anche con Dressup, un progetto Cesar nato per arredare in maniera innovativa gli spazi tra basi e pensili in cucina, evolutosi in un prodotto innovativo per vestire con creatività ed eleganza diverse zone della casa. Leggerezza e tecnologia sono i due principi ispiratori che hanno permesso di invertire il paradigma del contenimento dei cassetti, che, da una tradizionale struttura orizzontale, si sviluppa ora in verticale.

Élitis, a French company specialising in wallpaper, wall coverings, fabrics and home accessories, presents the first part of the 2022 collection in a more contemporary and minimal design that renews its image. The lines of the new wallcoverings and wallpapers are the result of constant research into innovative materials, patterns, shapes, techniques and artistic expressions. A never-ending challenge, aimed at playing with the effects of materials and colours, evoking suggestions from far away, in time and space.

In the Merida wallcovering, raffia in a pop and contemporary version is the main protagonist; in the Mouvements line, innovative lacquered 3D printing and laser engraving techniques are the bearers of new, almost pictorial effects, suspended between glossy and matt, between background and relief. Among the wallpapers, Bois sculpté seems to welcome us into the workshop of a sculptor, with all the baggage of sensations and perceptions it contains. References to ancient Korean fabrics are at the heart of the La Caravane collection, characterised by a patchwork of weaves. The compositions in

Voiles de papier, on the other hand, are real journeys made up of different textures, combinations, techniques and signs. Grand Hôtel, finally, is the Élitis wallpaper line which, in an entirely Art Deco style, translates the codes of marquetry and geometric patterns of the 1930s onto the wall. The Accessoire line is inspired this year by an Alpine adventure and the vintage atmosphere of the 1970s.

It features soft cushions, handmade rugs, ready-to-hang curtains and, new for 2022, headboards in various shapes and colours, made up of several elements that can be sold separately and assembled.

In addition to originality and a wealth of innovation, the new Élitis proposal also brings with it great respect for the environment and human health, with products boasting the lowest level of emissions into the air (category A), preferring water-based inks, using solvent-free vinyl and natural plasticisers and giving priority to materials that are as recyclable as possible. Thus generating beauty that is good for the soul, for the physical health of those who enjoy it and for the environment that surrounds us.

Élitis, azienda francese specializzata in carta da parati, rivestimenti murali, tessuti e accessori per la casa, presenta la prima parte della collezione 2022 in una veste di design più contemporanea e minimal che ne rinnova l’immagine. Le linee dei nuovi rivestimenti e delle carte da parati sono frutto di un costante lavoro di ricerca di innovativi materiali, fantasie, forme, tecniche ed espressioni artistiche. Una sfida senza fine, volta a giocare con effetti di materiali e colori, evocando suggestioni lontane, nel tempo e nello spazio. Nel rivestimento murale Merida la rafia in versione pop e contemporanea è grande protagonista, nella linea Mouvements, le tecniche innovative di stampa 3D laccata e l’incisione laser sono portatrici di nuovi effetti quasi pittorici, sospesi tra lucido e opaco, tra fondo e rilievo. Tra le carte da parati, Bois sculpté sembra accogliere nel vivo del laboratorio di una scultrice, con tutto il bagaglio di sensazioni e percezioni che esso racchiude. I richiami a tessuti antichi coreani sono al centro della collezione La Caravane, caratterizzata da un patchwork di intrecci. Le composizioni in Voiles de papier, invece, sono veri e propri viaggi fatti di consistenze, accostamenti, tecniche e segni diversi. Grand Hôtel, infine, è la linea di carta da parati firmata Élitis che, in uno stile tutto Art Déco, trasla su parete i codici dell’intarsio e dei fasci geometrici degli anni ’30. La linea Accessoire si ispira quest’anno a un’avventura alpina e alle atmosfere vintage anni 70. È caratterizzata da morbidi cuscini, tappeti fatti a mano, tende già pronte da appendere e come novità 2022 le testate da letto con varie forme e colori, si compongono di più elementi venduti separatamente e assemblabili.

La nuova proposta Élitis oltre all’originalità e al grande bagaglio di innovazione, porta con sé un grande rispetto per l’ambiente e per la salute umana, con prodotti che vantano il più basso livello di emissione nell’aria (categoria A), prediligendo inchiostri a base di acqua, utilizzando vinile senza solventi e a base di plastificanti naturali e dando precedenza a materiali quanto più possibile riciclabili. FritsJurgens is a dynamic Dutch company born from the intuition of two partners who intercepted the latent need of most designers and interior designers in terms of design of doors and pivoting structures. There was a lack of pivoting solutions capable of freeing design from traditional dimensional and structural limitations, and of hinges capable of guaranteeing design creativity free from compromise in terms of quality, aesthetics and design.

Thus, FritsJurgens has engineered a pivot hinge that makes it possible to create virtually any type of door and pivot structure conceivable - large or small, experimental or everyday. By relocating the installation of the hinges from the floor directly to the door, the FritsJurgens solution has eliminated the inconvenience of laborious floor cutouts. What's more, the load-bearing capacity of the hinges themselves has been significantly increased and the smoothness of

movement of the door has been raised to a previously unexplored level.

In this way, FritsJurgens has made design possible without limits: a pivot door can now be made from any type of material. The wide range of hinges makes it possible to make and move any pivoting structure weighing between 20 and 500 kg. FritsJurgens hinges can be used on doors made of seemingly 'impossible' materials, such as marble slabs, as well as on traditional doors. In addition, the high load-bearing capacity of the hinges extends their range of application to partitions, boiseries, pivoting bookcases and so on.

All pivot hinge systems in the FritsJurgens range are designed to be concealed in the door. The only element to be installed on the floor is a design plate with 8 mm bushings. Manufactured from high performance materials, all pivot hinges in the FritsJurgens range are designed for durability: the systems are corrosion resistant and maintenance free.

FritsJurgens è una dinamica realtà olandese nata dall’intuizione di due soci che hanno intercettato il bisogno latente di gran parte dei progettisti e interior designer in termini di progettazione di porte e strutture a bilico. Mancavano soluzioni pivotanti in grado di svincolare la progettazione dalle tradizionali limitazioni dimensionali e strutturali, e cerniere in grado di garantire una creatività progettuale libera da compromessi in termini di qualità, estetica e design. Così, FritsJurgens ha ingegnerizzato una cerniera pivot in grado di rendere possibile la realizzazione di qualsiasi tipo di porta e struttura a bilico virtualmente concepibile – grande o piccola, sperimentale o per uso quotidiano.

Ricollocando l’installazione delle cerniere dal pavimento direttamente all’anta, la soluzione FritsJurgens ha eliminato l’inconveniente di laboriosi scassi a pavimento. E non solo: la portata delle cerniere stesse è stata notevolmente incrementata e la fluidità di movimento dell’anta portata ad un livello fino ad allora inesplorato. In questo modo, FritsJurgens ha reso possibile un design senza limiti: una porta a bilico può adesso essere realizzata in qualsiasi tipo di materiale.

La vasta gamma di cerniere rende possibile la realizzazione e la movimentazione di qualsiasi struttura pivotante, di peso compreso tra 20 e 500 kg. Le cerniere FritsJurgens trovano posto sia su porte realizzate con materiali apparentemente “impossibili”, come lastre di marmo, sia su porte tradizionali. Inoltre, l’elevata portata delle cerniere ne amplia il raggio di applicazione a pareti divisorie, boiseries, librerie pivotanti e così via. Tutti i sistemi di cerniere pivot della gamma FritsJurgens sono progettati per integrarsi a scomparsa nell’anta. Restyling. Giving new shape without betraying the essence of a place.

This is how architect Federica Sardo intervened in the interior of a flat in a historic building in the heart of Brera in Milan. Environments that look like minute works of art are renewed to tell the story of Milanese life. Retro furnishing elements in warm wooden essences are combined with decorated plain Black and Grey 20x20 cement tiles from the Medley collection, belonging to the GCR Decor line of Gruppo Cerdisa Ricchetti, a company specialised in the production of ceramic surfaces for all architectural, interior design and building requirements. "A small house in the centre of Brera, where the choice of finishes, especially the

decorated tiles that recall the cement tiles of the past, is aimed precisely at underlining how a room can be enriched and filled with little. The tiles chosen were a decorative-functional key which brought a special accent, with retro tones, to the interior of this home, says architect Federica Sardo, describing her project. "The design choice was to form two large "carpets" in the two main rooms with Medley Jazz, which in this case also helped to regularise the shape of the rooms, while the Medley Black background was chosen for the frame. The two rooms are divided by a service hallway and the bathroom, where the single colour tiles continue, Black on the floor and Grey on the walls".

Ecco come l’architetta Federica Sardo è intervenuta all’interno di un appartamento di un edificio storico nel cuore di Brera, a Milano. Ambienti che sembrano minute opere d’arte si rinnovano per raccontare spaccati di vissuto milanese. Elementi d’arredo rétro in calde essenze lignee si sposano con le cementine decorate e tinta unita Black e Grey in formato 20x20 della collezione Medley, appartenente alla linea GCR Decor di Gruppo Cerdisa Ricchetti, azienda specializzata nella produzione di superfici ceramiche per tutte le esigenze in ambito di architettura, interior design ed edilizia. “Una piccola casa nel centro di Brera, dove la scelta delle finiture, in modo particolare delle piastrelle decorate che ricordano le cementine di una volta, è mirata proprio a sottolineare come con poco si può arricchire e riempire un ambiente.

Le piastrelle scelte sono state una chiave decorativofunzionale che ha portato negli interni di questa abitazione un accento particolare, dai toni rétro, afferma l’architetta Federica Sardo descrivendo il proprio intervento. "La scelta progettuale è stata quella di formare due grandi “tappeti” nei due locali principali con Medley Jazz, che in questo caso hanno aiutato anche a regolarizzare la forma delle stanze, mentre per la cornice è stato scelto il fondo Medley Black. I due ambienti sono divisi da un disimpegno di servizio e dal bagno, dove proseguono le piastrelle a tinta unica, Black a pavimento e Grey a rivestimento".

GBPA Architects, in collaboration with Dromo, an engineering company specialising in motor racing circuits, has designed the new Porsche Experience Center Franciacorta, which, with a complex of 60 hectares amidst the rolling hills of Lombardy and its fine vineyards, is the eighth and largest Porsche Experience Center in the world. The Zuffenhausen marque expresses itself in a series of spaces able to involve every type of public, from customers to enthusiasts, from companies to families, reserving for everyone the pleasure of experiencing the world of Porsche as a protagonist. The facility is divided into two main areas: Customer Center and Paddock. The Customer Center is housed in a futuristic building, an arched structure with a refined design, and is the gateway to all the experiences for customers and fans. From here, visitors can immerse themselves in the Porsche world in all its facets, also thanks to Pedrali products that enliven the various spaces of the Customer Centre, covering a total of 5,600 square metres.

panoramic restaurant overlooking the circuit, a shop, a Kids area, a bar and a large panoramic terrace, suitable for enjoying the spectacle of the circuit thanks to a privileged view of the entire complex.

The restaurant features the Vic chairs, designed by Patrick Norguet, which guarantee high levels of comfort thanks to the generous dimensions of the padded seat combined with the Arki-Base tables.

The Targa bar has an indoor room, furnished with Nemea chairs designed by CMP Design, and with stools from the successful Babila collection, designed by Odo Fioravanti. On the terrace we find Reva, an elegant three-seater sofa designed by Patrick Jouin with soft lines and generous dimensions, and Remind, designed by Eugeni Quitllet, a polypropylene armchair with an organic silhouette that recalls the soft curves of wooden chairs from the second half of the 19th century. They are combined with Patrick Jouin's Elliot tables, with their delicate, slender forms. In the Business Center and Board Room, the Tweet chairs designed by Marc Sadler, the Ypsilon tables in the tilting version and the Elinor executive armchair find their perfect place.

GBPA Architects, in collaborazione con Dromo, società di ingegneria specializzata in circuiti da corsa automobilistici, ha progettato il nuovo Porsche Experience Center Franciacorta, che, con un complesso di 60 ettari tra le dolci colline lombarde e i suoi pregiati vitigni, è l’ottavo e il più grande Porsche Experience Center al mondo. La Casa di Zuffenhausen si esprime in una serie di spazi in grado di coinvolgere ogni tipo di pubblico, dai clienti agli appassionati, dalle aziende alle famiglie, riservando ad ognuno il piacere di vivere il mondo Porsche da protagonista.

L’impianto è diviso in due aree principali: Customer Center e Paddock.

Il primo, ospitato in una costruzione avveniristica, una struttura ad archi dal design raffinato, è il portale di accesso a tutte le esperienze rivolte a clienti e appassionati. Da qui i visitatori s’immergono nel mondo Porsche in tutte le sue sfaccettature anche grazie ai prodotti Pedrali che animano i diversi spazi del Customer Center per un totale di 5.600 mq.

Da una agorà centrale si dipanano i vari servizi: sale briefing per le sessioni, uno showroom per la configurazione delle vetture, un elegante ristorante panoramico a sbalzo sull’autodromo, uno shop, un’area Kids, un bar e un’ampia terrazza panoramica, adatta per godere lo spettacolo del circuito grazie ad una vista privilegiata su tutto il complesso.

Il ristorante vede protagoniste le sedie Vic, disegnate da Patrick Norguet, che garantiscono alti livelli di comfort grazie alle dimensioni generose della seduta imbottita abbinate ai tavoli Arki-Base. Il bar Targa ha una sala indoor, arredata con le sedie Nemea disegnate da CMP Design, e con gli sgabelli della fortunata collezione Babila, a firma di Odo Fioravanti. Nella sua terrazza troviamo Reva, l’elegante divano a tre posti disegnato da Patrick Jouin dalle linee morbide e dalle dimensioni generose e Remind, disegnata da Eugeni Quitllet, una poltrona in polipropilene dalla silhouette organica che riprende le curve morbide delle sedie in legno della seconda metà del XIX Secolo.

Sono abbinate ai tavolini Elliot di Patrick Jouin, dalle forme delicate e slanciate. All’interno del Business Center e della Board Room trovano perfetta collocazione le sedie Tweet, disegnate da Marc Sadler, i tavoli Ypsilon nella versione tilting e la poltrona direzionale Elinor.
