Reconciling form and function

Our planters are not just beautiful to look at. They combine design and functionality, with practical extras, smart accessories and a clever system for healthy plant growth.

Water supply shaft

The water reservoir is fitted with a supply shaft for easy, mess-free filling. Watering via the supply shaft ensures a consistent supply of water from the water reservoir and prevents the plant substrate from getting waterlogged. The perfect addition for accurate watering: the PICO spout extension.

Watering without all the work

Correct watering is crucial for healthy plants. The original LECHUZA self watering system offers a simple and fuss-free way to care for your plants. With a proven track record spanning more than 25 years, it consistently supplies plants with just the right amount of moisture. The self watering system comprises ingenious, cleverly designed elements:

Drain plug

Outdoors, the removable drain plug at the bottom of the container allows excess rainwater to drain away safely. This prevents waterlogging, helping to keep plants healthy and strong even after heavy rainfall. A practical and important form of protection for outdoor planters.

Good to know: Even with an open overflow, the LECHUZA plant still has a water reservoir. Water flows out until the maximum fill level of the water reservoir is reached.

Planter liners for convenience

Planter liners take the strain out of planting, rearranging and repotting your plants and make plant care easy. Even if you’ve already put up your balcony planter or positioned your column planter, inside or on the terrace, you can take your time preparing your plants and plant them out when you're ready.

Open and closed planter liners

Depending on the type of planter, either open or closed planter liners are integrated into the design. With closed liners, typically used with column planters, the water reservoir is integrated into the liner. This makes the liners easy to move without making a mess, and they can be used for precultivating plants too. With open liners, the water reservoir is between the separator and the outer planter. Roots can grow out of the liner and can easily be trimmed back. The liner is also easy to handle and can be cleaned under running water.

Recessed handles and liner handles on the liners in the LECHUZA planters make it easy to remove and reposition even your biggest plants. The liner handles on premium planters are often available in the same color finish as the planter itself, blending in to the overall design.

Professional watering for every type of plant

Plant care can be a challenge because every plant has unique requirements in terms of its location and watering needs. LECHUZA makes watering easy!

Classic system

Whether repotting in soil or PON, there’s no need to struggle with plants’ root balls.

The classic self watering system is used for larger LECHUZA planters. It comprises the planter, a planter liner or separator and the components of the irrigation set: the supply shaft, water level indicator and LECHUZA-PON as an irrigation hose layer. A drain plug prevents waterlogging when used outdoors.

LECHUZA has developed an intelligent self watering system inspired by nature that creates the optimal conditions for plant growth and keeps care to a minimum.

Stick system

Perfect watering for herbs and co. without any planting: Simply insert the watering stick directly into the growpot and then place it into the planter. Water is transported from the reservoir to the soil of the pot and directly reaches the roots of the plant.

Wick system

This self watering system uses an absorbent wick to transport water and nutrients to the root of the plant. The wick system is exclusively planted with LECHUZA-PON to ensure optimal capillary action and good root aeration. Simply fill the water reservoir and the plant receives all the moisture it needs. The water level indicator reliably shows when it is time to refill the reservoir again.

Professional tips for professional gardeners

The right watering system for every type of plant

The secret to beautiful plants is a well-functioning self watering system. But what makes the Original LECHUZA self watering system different from other systems? The answer is the optimum mix of water, substrate and plant roots. The perfectly balanced plant volume and water reservoir system creates the best conditions for plant growth.

All LECHUZA planters are supplied with the right quantity of LECHUZA-PON as an irrigation layer. This irrigation hose supplies the correct amount of water to the roots whilst also preventing any waterlogging.

The secret to a successful growing-in phase is also linked to the outstanding capillary characteristics of LECHUZA-PON. With smaller planters in particular (up to size 30), plants with a strong root ball are supplied very quickly as the water rises. The roots grow into the moist area of the self watering system after only a short period of time.

In larger planters with a diameter of 40 cm or more, the plants only reach the moist area after a growing-in phase. This is why correct watering is crucial to growing success. That's where LECHUZA comes in, with reliable plant care, just as nature intended.

Waterlogging does not stand a chance: the volume-stable composition of LECHUZAPON guarantees even watering of your plants.

Caring for the environment

Happiness is green fingers!

Protecting the environment and conserving resources is a part of LECHUZA’s DNA. That’s why the sustainable, responsible handling of the raw materials is a key focus. All of our planters are 100% recyclable and made in Germany. Our black planter liners and many accessories are made of 100% recycled PIR plastic (post-industrial recyclate). We also care about sustainability; a large part of our production water comes from cisterns and we are constantly looking for ways to reduce our energy consumption.

Having been successfully certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001, we have introduced an effective environmental management system and supplemented it with an energy management system according to DIN EN ISO 50001. These systems help us to reduce our environmental impact in a targeted way.

Rooted in nature

With our PALO Natural Wood collection we are setting an example in responsible product design. Since early 2025 we have included planters made of solid FSC®-certified eucalyptus wood in our assortment. The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) seal guarantees that the timber used in our planters comes from sustainably managed forests. It signifies that social and environmental standards are being met during logging and that environmental impacts are minimized in order to maintain the long-term health of the forest ecosystem.
