The project has been designated as an Abu Dhabi investment zone and features six investment zone villages - Marafaa Al Jubail, Nad Al Dhabi, Seef Al Jubail, Ain Al Maha, Souk Al Jubail and Bed’a Al Jubail. The 13-kilometre waterfront project would comprise a mix of serviced plots, high-end and midrange properties that would cater to nationals and the rental market, and would house a resident population of 5,000-6,000 people after completion. The project is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2022 with plot handovers starting in the first quarter of 2021. Shumookh Investment and Services (SIS), the investment arm of the wholly Omani governmentowned Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), is exploring plans to establish a world-scale refinery and petrochemicals complex in Sur Industrial City in Oman’s South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The proposed refinery and petrochemical complex is expected to have a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, surpassing that of the 230,000 bpd Duqm Refinery project currently in the early stages of implementation in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm on Oman’s Wusta coast. Shumookh is considering a 6.5 per cent stake in the refinery and petrochemicals project, which is proposed to be established on a build-own-operate (BOT) basis. Its proposed location in Sur Industrial City, which is already home to some of Oman’s biggest industrial and petrochemical schemes, notably the 3-train Oman LNG plant and ammonia-urea complex of Oman-India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO), is set to position Sur as an industrial powerhouse in its own right.

Construction work has started on the 1.1ha Snow Park within Abu Dhabi’s Reem Mall, a $1.2 billion (AED4.4 billion) project at Reem Island’s Najmat District that will comprise 450 shops when it opens in late-2020. UK practice Pascall + Watson, which has delivered architectural design services for Snow Park, informed site works have started for the unusual leisure destination. According to the design firm, Snow Park’s design is themed on a snow-covered enchanted forest, and delivers experiences such as sledging, zorbing, and zip-lining across several distinct zones. Reem Mall revealed earlier this year that a 2,140m2 e-commerce logistics hub will be developed within the retail facility to make it the world’s first fully digitally enabled smart shopping centre.

A major road project will soon improve the connectivity of Mina Zayed area to its surroundings. From then on, the project should take 42 months to be completed. As part of the project, a tunnel will be built to connect the Shaikh Khalifa Highway to the Shaikh Zayed Tunnel and the Corniche Road. The tunnel will have five lanes in each direction, and will be able to accommodate 10,000 vehicles per hour per direction. Dutch development bank FMO supports the development of a utility-scale solar park (50 MW) in Jordan that will supply 42,000 households with affordable, clean energy and avoid 100,000 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions. The project, located in the Ma’an Governorate (200 km south of Amman), will be the first internationally financed utility-scale solar park in Jordan that deploys locally manufactured PV modules. FMO is acting as lead arranger for the $59.2 million senior financing package to Al Husainiyah Power Generation Company. The project company is owned by United Arab Emirates-based AMEA Power (70%), and Jordan-based Philadelphia Solar (30%).

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipality and Rural Affairs is expected to release the main tender of 213.7 million Saudi riyals ($57 million) Jeddah Corridor Highway by the second quarter of 2019. The detailed design work has been completed. The tender for infrastructure contract is expected to be released by second week of April 2019. The construction is expected to commence by August 2019 with the project completion scheduled for June 2021. The project’s scope of work involves construction of the 49-km East Jeddah Corridor Highway with four major grade separated interchanges. T
he powerful European presence at this year’s Automechanika Dubai exhibition will have a big boost of turbo-charged Italian flair, with a host of companies from Italy revving their engines ahead of the Middle East and Africa’s largest automotive aftermarket trade fair. More than 1,800 exhibitors from 60-plus countries will partake in the 17th edition of Automechanika Dubai in June 2019, with more than 350 of that figure hailing from Europe. Italy, known worldwide for its reputation as a producer of high-end sports cars, is also a major aftermarket player, exporting US$15.3 billion worth of auto parts and components in 2018 according to data aggregator World’s Top Exports -12 percent up on the previous year. The UAE is among the top ten markets for high quality and genuine Italian auto parts, and now major players are gearing up for more growth targeting trade buyers, distributors, and importers from throughout the wider Middle East, Africa, and Western Asia. The Italian presence at Automechanika Dubai 2019 highlights the Southern European country’s prominence, and when the threeday event opens from 10-12 June 2019 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, more than 70 Italian manufacturers

ing Abdulaziz Port, the largest Saudi port on the Arabian Gulf, marks its successful story which dates back to over four decades ago. The comprehensive port is pioneering major industrial and economic developments. It has expanded from a small berth capable of accommodating only two ships and connected to a 13-kilometre monorail off the coast of Dammam, to a huge complex of ports, shipyards and warehouses. The second terminal, operated by the Saudi Global Ports Company, and has a capacity of 1.5 million containers TEU’s, with two berths totalling 700 metres in length and a 16.5 metre deep. It is equipped with 6 bridge cranes and has an additional 600,000 square metre area. The terminals are supported by a large number of mobile stackers and container cranes.” Al Faris added, “The port also has a general and bulk cargo terminal in the eastern part, operated by Globe Marine Services Company. It includes 9 berths totalling 1,740 metres in length and 12 to 14 metre deep. It features 56,000 square metre covered warehouses and 342,000 square metre open storage areas. The central cargo terminal, operated by United Technical Co., Ltd, includes 13 berths with length 2,465 meters, and 9 to 14 meter deep, 44,800 square metre covered warehouses, and 372,000 square metre open storage areas. Both terminals have a lot of cargo handling equipment. Therefore, the port is an ideal destination for huge vessels that can dock on the port’s various deep berths. Waiting time for ships to unload is minimal thanks to the quality infrastructure, modern handling equipment and the ability to store bulk and general cargo in covered warehouses to protect them from weather and damage.”
In addition to the four main terminals, the port has a terminal with 33,600 square metre dimension for black cement and clinker export, and has a capacity storage silos around 30,000 tonne for black cement and a 40,000 tonnes for clinker. The terminal has a conveyor belt to directly transfer cement from the two silos to the ships. It can handle 800 tonnes of black cement and 700 tonnes of clinker per hour. Moreover, the port includes a 16,000 square meter white cement terminal and two storage silos with a capacity of 8,000 tonnes. The port also has a 60,000 square metre terminal for handling iron ore, with a capacity of 3 million tonnes per year, and two gantry unloading equipment, each with a capacity of 800 tonnes per hour. The port also has a 113,000 square metre grain and fodder terminal with storage silos and warehouses with modern equipment capable of handling grains. The port’s diversification strategy aims at enhancing its capabilities to deal with various types of cargo, including grains, oils, foodstuffs, ro-ro goods such as cars, vehicles, and other types of containers, is key to its competitiveness. The port further promotes this position by providing services to ships such as fueling, food and other supply services. Ideal environment for import, export and docking Talking about the port’s import and export capabilities and supporting an alternative economy, Al Faris clarified, “King Abdulaziz Port has a state-of-the-art infrastructure that

The port has a 351,000 square metre storage and reexport area, including 22 thermal-insulated warehouses, six of them are air-conditioned. Incubator for Saudi maritime industry King Abdulaziz Port is not just cranes and quays for loading and unloading. The port includes some of the best marine manufacturing facilities in the Arabian Gulf region. Explaining the port’s manufacturing capabilities, Al Faris said, “The port houses King Fahd complex for repairing ships, operated by Al Balaghah Holding Group. It consists of two floating docks for repairing ships and offshore rigs over an area of 147,000 square metres. It also houses a marine construction and repair complex, managed and operated by Zamil Offshore Services Company. 70 vessels were built in this shipyard and over 360 marine pieces of different sizes and types were repaired or maintained, including huge offshore rigs. Thus, the port is a comprehensive one-stop shop for ships where they can confidently set off to anywhere in the world assured of the proficient services they received.” In addition to the port’s capabilities in ship building and repairing, as well as floating docks, it features a 500,000 square metre area for manufacturing and assembling of offshore platforms and oil drilling rigs, managed and operated by Saipem Taqa Al Rushaid Fabricators (STAR). Record bauma Attracts more than 620,000 Visitors
W
ith more than 620,000 visitors from over 200 countries, bauma 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, generated the best results in the exhibition’s 65-year history. The number of visitors rose by about 40,000 over the total produced during the previous event in 2016. More than 250,000 visitors came from countries outside Germany. The top 10 visitor countries after Germany were: Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland and Great Britain. The trade fair also experienced a strong increase in attendance from overseas visitors. Significant gains in this group were produced by China, Australia and Japan. More than 5,500 visitors came from China alone. The number of exhibitors totaled about 3,700 from 63 countries – likewise a record. With its unprecedented 614,000 square meters of space, the largest bauma ever held was once again a bauma filled with records. to the trade fair’s global visitors. Zeppelin/ Caterpillar, for instance, introduced more than 20 world premieres. Business conducted at the exhibition was correspondingly good. Many exhibitors spoke of a high willingness to invest. The record-setting bauma also had a strong impact on order books as exhibitors generated the highest sales in the history of their participation at the trade fair. Innovation platform and economic engine Thanks to the smooth operation of the exhibition and the consistently positive feedback by exhibitors, Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München, was more than satisfied with the results of bauma 2019: “For the industry, bauma is by far the world’s most important innovation platform and economic engine, something that we clearly saw this year. Franz-Josef Paus, Managing Director of Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik and Chairman of the bauma Advisory Council, described the trade fair’s unique character this way: “With exhibitors from more than 60 countries and visitors from over 200 nations, bauma is an industry platform where technological variety, ingenuity and performance can be demonstrated to an immense international business audience.” Exhibitors: “The most-successful bauma of all times” For exhibitors, bauma 2019 was a complete success, as occasionally euphoric statements about it showed. Masa Managing Director Frank W. Reschke described it as “the most successful bauma of all times.” Martin Herrenknecht agreed: “Every bauma is something special. But 2019 topped everything for Herrenknecht.” Domenic G. Ruccolo, CEO of the Wirtgen Group, rated bauma 2019 as “the most successful in the history of the Wirtgen Group.” Many exhibitors of bauma’s partner country, Canada, were enthused as well. Melinda Zimmerman Smith of Serious Labs said bauma created “exciting opportunities that we didn’t even know existed.” What’s more, bauma was “simply a whole lot of fun,” she said. Excellent business platform Once again, bauma proved itself to be an excellent business platform, many exhibitors noted. Andreas Böhm, a member of the Board
of Directors of Liebherr-International AG, said: “We took orders from all parts of the world and made a whole lot of new contacts.” PERI is also “taking many excellent orders home with it,” said Alexander Schwörer, Managing Director for Marketing and Sales. Zeppelin Baumaschinen also “closed a lot of business deals,” said Fred Cordes, Chairman of the Management Board. Joachim Schmid, Managing Director of the Construction Machinery and Building Material Association of the German Engineering Federation, said he learned one thing in his conversations with exhibitors: “Many trade fair exhibitors had a specific interest in buying when they dropped by company booths, something that fuels hopes for continuing economic stability.” Professional industry visitors act as the foundation of success bauma 2019 was impressive not just because of the internationality of the visitors who journeyed from all parts of the world to Munich. “The quality and quantity of decision makers from our target groups were exceptional,” Martin Herrenknecht said. Gernot Hein, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at ZF Friedrichshafen, said: “The number and quality of professional conversations were very high.” And Riccardo Magni, the President of Magni Telescopic Handlers, had an explanation for the trade fair’s tremendous performance: “The experienced and professional visitors and the careful organization were the foundation of bauma’s success.”

Megatrend digitalization The clear focal point of this year’s bauma was sustainable and digital solutions. All exhibitors agreed that digitalization is a “megatrend” in the construction machinery industry, said Andreas Klauser, the CEO of PALFINGER AG. Sensors and communication interfaces that collect and analyze data have become standard equipment. Overall, machines and vehicles are becoming cleaner, quieter and more efficient. Many now have electric and hybrid drive systems. “Customers’ interest in electric drive systems has never been so high as it was this year,” said Dr. Frank Hiller, Chairman of the Board of Management at DEUTZ AG. “It was a dominant issue at bauma 2019.” Some of the most interesting innovations were honored with the bauma Innovation Award on the evening before the trade fair opened. Political leaders: “bauma is a showcase for Germany” The visit by many high-ranking political leaders underscored bauma’s exceptional importance, a reputation that extends far beyond the industry itself. “This trade fair is a showcase for Germany,” Peter Altmaier, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, said at the opening of bauma. The Bavarian Minister President, Dr. Markus Söder, said, “For me as a private individual, a visit to bauma has always been a highlight in my 32 PlantAndEquipment.com | May 2019
life.” Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, State Development and Energy, Deputy Minister President, also took an extended tour of the trade fair. bauma’s partner country, Canada, was represented in part by Stéphane Dion, the Ambassador and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jonatan Julien, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Bavarian partner province Quebec. The Chinese delegation was led by Wang Bingnan, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. “The place to be” for seven days bauma’s visitors added a strong new accent to Munich during the seven-day trade fair. There were people from all parts of the world everywhere you looked – this was the defining feature of the fairgrounds in Riem, both in the halls and on the outdoor exhibition area. Visitors massed at the trade fair’s hot spots, the impressive vehicle and machine displays set up by major exhibitors. In addition to its industrial focus, bauma was also a huge world of experience and adventure with a selfie tower and Ferris wheel. Jorge Cuartero, Managing Director of the Spanish manufacturer association Anmopyc, summed things up this way: for a full week, bauma was “the place to be.” The next bauma will be held from April 4 to 10, 2022, at the Messe München Exhibition Center.

Volvo CE Unveils Electric Compact Excavator and Wheel Loader at bauma Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled two zero-emissions machines - the ECR25 excavator and L25 wheel loader - from its new range of electric compact machines. Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is delivering on its commitment of ‘Building Tomorrow’ with the unveiling of its first commercial zero-emissions electric compact excavator and wheel loader at bauma Munich. The machines, which are the first to be shown from a new electric range of Volvo branded compact excavators and compact wheel loaders, deliver zero exhaust emissions, significantly lower noise levels, reduced energy costs, improved efficiency and less maintenance requirements, compared to their conventional counterparts. From mid-2020, Volvo CE will begin to launch its range of electric compact excavators (EC15 to EC27) and wheel loaders (L20 to L28), stopping new diesel engine-based development of these models. ELECTRIC OPERATION To make the ECR25 and L25 electric, the combustion engines have been replaced with lithium-ion batteries. The ECR25 is fitted 34 PlantAndEquipment.com | May 2019
with lithium-ion batteries and one electric motor which powers the hydraulics in order to move the machine and the attachment. The machine’s batteries store enough electric energy to power the ECR25 for eight hours in its most common applications, such as utility work. The L25 incorporates lithium-ion batteries which allow for eight hours of operation in the machine’s regular applications, including light infrastructure work, gardening, landscaping and agriculture. The L25 also incorporates two dedicated electric motors, one for the drivetrain and one for the hydraulics. Decoupling the subsystems has led to higher efficiency in both the systems and the entire machine. Both the ECR25 and L25 have onboard chargers that enable overnight charging via a regular household plug socket. A fast charging option, requiring more powerful grid access, will also be available. “The ECR25 and L25 are revolutionary machines that demonstrate Volvo CE’s commitment to future technology,” says Scott Young, Director Electromobility and Automation. “As the machines are electric, no particulate matter, nitrogen oxide or carbon dioxide are released into the environment. This,
latest NEWS // VOLVO together with the fact that they have extremely low noise levels, makes them ideal for use in cities and densely populated areas.” FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY The launch of the ECR25 and L25 follow positive reactions to Volvo CE’s concept machines over the last few years. This includes the prototype EX2 fully electric compact excavator and the prototype LX2 electric compact wheel loader. “While the ECR25 and L25 are different machines, the learnings from these research projects have helped to build the foundations for the new range of electric compact machines,” explains Young. “The technology we have been developing is now sufficiently robust and this, together with changes in customer behavior and a heightened regulatory environment, makes now the right time to launch our electric compact machines.” Now that the first electric compact machines have been unveiled, a number of machines
will be used and tested by customer’s in pilot projects before production begins mid-2020. Three New Grove All-Terrain Cranes at bauma 2019

t bauma 2019 Manitowoc launched an impressive new unit in the fiveaxle category and two new three-axle models. Andreas Cremer, global product director for all-terrain cranes at Manitowoc, said the launch of the new models underlines the company’s increased speed of product development under The Manitowoc Way and its ongoing commitment to building cranes that offer outstanding return on investment. “We believe in developing cranes our customers can use in a wider variety of projects for better return on investment,” he said. “The GMK5250XL-1 is a great example of how we do that. It’s an update to our existing GMK5250L but we’ve added 8.5 m of boom for more reach, so it can take on more jobs. lift performance, maneuverability and fast set-up of the GMK5250L which make it such a popular choice with our customers.” High Five With its 78.5 m boom the GMK5250XL-1 has the longest main boom of any five-axle allterrain crane and combines that with the best lifting capabilities in the industry. As with all Grove all-terrain cranes it features Megatrak suspension and the Twin-Lock boom pinning system. It is also available with the MAXbase variable outrigger function for added versatility on the jobsite. Options for the GMK5250XL-1 include the VIAB turbo retarder clutch, which first featured on the original GMK5250L. The VIAB unit enables wear-free starting and braking, enhancing

maneuverability and operator comfort. In addition to its high-performance features the crane delivers a compact footprint, making it ideal for use in crowded or urban areas. Rule of Three In the three-axle category, the GMK3060L sets new standards of excellence and includes a powerful, seven-section MEGAFORM boom with 48 m of main boom and a maximum tip height of 65 m when working with its full jib. For consistency and control, the 60 t crane features Manitowoc’s Crane Control System with boom configurator for fast and efficient set-up. With its compact carrier, the GMK3060L can squeeze into tight locations, again making it a great option for downtown job sites or congested projects. Next to the GMK3060L is the new GMK3050-2, an update of Grove’s long-running three-axle offering, the GMK3050-1. It offers a 40 m main boom, fast operating speeds and a single counterweight configuration for ease of use. It’s engine and design have also been updated to meet the latest requirements of Euromot 5 (which also covers both Tier 4 Final and Tier 3 regulations in the U.S. and the rest of the world).
The GMK4090 highlights Grove’s leadership in the design of ‘taxi cranes’ - lightweight and flexible cranes which can be optimized for both travel and lifting depending on user needs. It has a maximum capacity of 90 t, a main boom of 51 m and a maximum tip height of 75 m. The GMK4090 can travel with up to 18.3 t of counterweight or can transport up to 9.1 t as a single vehicle while configured to less than 12 t per axle. The GMK6300L-1 is the successor to the hugely-popular GMK6300L. It has a 300-t maximum capacity and a maximum tip height of 120 m when working with its 80 m boom and 37 m of jib. When working with the main boom, it can lift up to 14 t at full height and can handle this from 14 m out to a 28 m radius, making it perfect for tower crane assembly. Power comes from a 430 kW Mercedes Benz (Euromot4/EPA Tier 4 final) engine which features improved fuel economy over its predecessor. “Grove all-terrain cranes deliver powerful lifting performance, superior off-road mobility and fast highway speeds,” concluded Cremer. “They are manufactured using the industry’s most stringent lean manufacturing techniques and this delivers a class-leading line-up from 60 t to 450 t.”
Both the GMK5250XL-1 and GMK3060L offer the most compact footprint in their class, and both have best-in-class load charts when configured in taxi-mode, at 12t per axle. العراق وقع المسؤولون السعوديون اتفاقية مع شركة بوبيولوس العالمية للتصميم المعماري وذلك لبناء مدينة الملك سلمان الرياضية في بغداد بإجمالي استثمارات بلغت 1.5مليار لاير سعودي (400 مليون دوالر).

تم تصميم هذا المجتمع ذو الكثافة المنخفضة والذي تبلغ مساحته 400فدان ليجذب عشاق الصحة والمتحمسون للطبيعة ، ويشمل عروض سكنية وبيع التجزئة والضيافة والترفيه والتعليم ،مع مطور المشروع شركة جزيرة الجبيل لالستثمار (،)JIIC تم تصنيف المشروع كمنطقة استثمارية في أبو ظبي ويضم ست قرى منطقة استثمارية وهي مرفأ الجبيل ،وناد الذهبي، وسيف الجبيل ،وعين المها ،وسوق الجبيل وبدع الجبيل. سيتألف مشروع الواجهة البحرية الذي يبلغ طوله 13كيلومت اًر من مزيج من قطع األراضي المخدومة ،والممتلكات الراقية والمتوسطة المدى التي تلبي احتياجات المواطنين وسوق اإليجار ،ومن المتوقع بعد االنتهاء أن يضم سكان مقيمين يتراوح عددهم بين 5000و 6000شخص ،من المقرر االنتهاء من المشروع في الربع الرابع من عام 2022مع البدء في تسليم قطع األراضي في الربع األول من عام .2021 تشمل العناصر األخرى للمشروع مركز تاون سنتر الذي يضم شققًا وحديقة مكتبية وفيالت مكتبية وفندقًا باإلضافة إلى منافذ بيع األطعمة والمشروبات ونادي شاطئي ومركز أعمال ومركز رياضي ومدارس ومحالت سوبر ماركت ودور حضانة و نادي مجتمع وعيادات متخصصة ومؤسسات تجارية أخرى. 71
