Jubail Island Master Development
The 400-acre low-density community Value: USD 1,300,000,000 is designed to appeal to wellness and nature enthusiasts, and includes Client: Jubail Island Investment residential, retail, hospitality, Company (JIIC) entertainment, and education offerings. The project has been designated as an Abu Dhabi investment zone and features six investment zone villages - Marafaa Al Jubail, Nad Al Dhabi, Seef Al Jubail, Ain Al Maha, Souk Al Jubail and Bed’a Al Jubail. The 13-kilometre waterfront project would comprise a mix of serviced plots, high-end and midrange properties that would cater to nationals and the rental market, and would house a resident population of 5,000-6,000 residents after completion. The project is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2022 with plot handovers starting in the first quarter of 2021. Other elements of the project, include Town Centre hub, featuring apartments, an office park, office villas, and a hotel, as well as F&B outlets, a beach club, a business centre, a sports centre, schools, supermarkets, nurseries, a community club, specialised clinics and other commercial establishments. Gulf Contractors Company won the enabling works contract for the Jubail Island project in the UAE capital. Enabling works generally involve major earthworks and grading of a site, ahead of the installation of infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and other facilities. Over 2.5 million cubic meters of material will be excavated and placed to create the formation level for over 40-kilometre of roadways and more than 800 residential properties as part of the contracted work. 10 PlantAndEquipment.com | July 2019

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project worth $544.5 million (AED2 billion), which will improve the road’s link with several highways, such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Emirates Road. The improvements will double the number of lanes from three to six lanes in each direction over a 17-kilometre sector. Project works also include upgrading six interchanges as well as constructing new bridges and service roads on both sides, and the scheme will improve road intake from 6,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour, as well as cut transit time from Emirates Road interchange to Oud Metha Street from 16 to eight minutes. Phase 1, worth $354 million (AED1.3 billion), spans 7-kilometre from the interchange of Emirates Road to the interchange of the Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This phase includes upgrading the junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which currently witnesses high traffic volumes. Works include constructing four ramps to serve traffic movement in four directions, which is planned to be completed in H1 2020. It involves the construction of a flyover of four lanes in each direction crossing over DubaiAl Ain Road, with a possibility of widening it to five lanes in future. Works include improving the existing ramp to serve the inbound traffic from Dubailand Residential Complex heading westward to the Dubaibound sector of Dubai-Al Ain Road. Phase 2 includes upgrading the Nad Al Sheba interchange by upgrading the existing bridge to serve the traffic from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Nad Al Sheba and vice versa and improving inward and outward surface roads at Nad Al Sheba.

The project is a mega mall which houses more than 1,300 stores and consists diverse districts designed with different themes that bring several cities into one. It also includes five multi-purpose towers consisting of hotels, exhibition, conference halls, residential apartments, offices and medical facilities, making it one of the largest commercial complexes in the Middle East. The contractor has been selected and the client is in the final stages of preparing the contract and will announce the name during the signing. The shopping mall is slated for completion in 2023, followed shortly by the office tower and the Waldorf Astoria hotel tower and the remaining three towers. The Avenues - Khobar Project will be determined only after the design stage is completed. Shomoul Holding Co. has secured bank funding of SAR 5.6 billion ($1.49 billion) for the The Avenues Riyadh. The funding has been obtained from nine GCC banks, other options such as sukuk and bonds are also being explored.

The development of gas field located in the offshore shallow waters, southwest of Abu Dhabi City. The oilfield is located to the west of Abu Dhabi’s offshore territory between Dalma Island and the maritime border with Qatar. The planned capacity for the development is 350 million cubic feet per day. The objective of the project is to deliver a more sustainable and economical gas supply by implementing a fully integrated gas master plan that increases productivity, performance, and delivery. State-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is expected to award the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for its $450 million gas processing plant project for Dalma ultra-sour gas offshore field by the third quarter 2019. The technical bids have been submitted and the last date for commercial bid submission was 20 May 2019. The EPC contract is expected to be awarded in August 2019 with project completion and commissioning expected by the first quarter of 2022.

Both highways will get two extra lanes, becoming three-lane highways in each direction. There are also plans for new side roads to hard-to-reach neighbourhoods, while a separate project being studied by the government involves a new traffic artery that would connect Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway with Saar Avenue. Work is now due to go ahead as soon as new sewerage networks are completed and ground cables are relocated. The project includes improving existing intersections near the Northern Town, adding new ones and providing new exits and entrances for villages if it is necessary and improves access. The project will help reduce traffic congestion in A’ Ali and Salmabad areas. It is aimed at improving Bahrain’s road capacity and solving traffic congestion on Sheikh Zayed Highway as well as Salmabad’s Street No.12, which are used by some 4,000 vehicles during peak hours and over 50,000 vehicles throughout the day. The Phase One will involve expansion of various streets to three lanes in each direction, as well as the installation of new traffic lights, lighting, roadblocks, traffic signs, street renovation, landscaping, and rainwater drainage. It is a key part of Bahrain’s efforts to improve its road network. Funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Fund (ADFD), the highway is a strategic project that connects A’ Ali, Salmabad and Zayed City to Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Street. On completion, the highway’s capacity will increase to 80,000 vehicles per day and 6,000 vehicles during peak hours, while waiting times at intersections will be reduced by over 60 per cent.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has placed an order for 373 buses with Volvo Bus to help improve mobility in the city. The deal for Volvo SB3 buses, which are compliant with Euro 6 standards, is valued at AED474 million ($129 million). The buses are fitted with interactive touchscreens to display instant information about the journey. In addition, buses are also equipped with Raqeeb driver behaviour monitoring system, which uses the latest technology to monitor drivers’ fatigue signs to help make bus journeys safer. Furthermore, the buses are equipped with Rasid automated passenger counting system to record the actual number of passengers and match it with the automated fare collection system. Each bus can accommodate 74 passengers. From the total 373, almost 99 buses have a unique interior setting and offer more room for standing passengers and help accommodate more riders for short-distance commuting. These buses fall under UN Class II Vehicle classification, which allows flexibility in operating buses on inter-city routes or long hauls. Buses are compliant with ITxPT system that enables interoperability between IT systems in public transport, thanks to the availability of bus information database saved in the UAE (UAE Cloud).

Mammoet 331, sea-going deck cargo barge has returned to UAE to be utilized for the upcoming projects in the Gulf region. The global leader in engineered heavy lifting and transport further strengthens its marine services by bringing back its barge to the GCC market. The barge, loaded with cargo, has arrived to Ras Al-Khaimah port after a 2 year assignment in the Far East. In 2015 the barge was utilized for the transport of legs and spindle of the observation wheel - Ain Dubai. This flat-top barge, measuring 100m x 30m x 6.1m (331ft x 100ft x 20ft) and a deck strength of 25 MT/m2, was specifically built for Mammoet and is able to carry heavy and oversized cargo. It will complement Mammoet’s heavy lifting and transport fleet in the Middle East and further enhance its capabilities to provide turnkey solutions for projects in the region.

latest NEWS // FORD Ford Driving Skills for Life helps young drivers improve their skills in four key areas that are critical factors in more than 60 per cent of vehicle crashes: hazard recognition, vehicle handling, speed, and space management. Ford also reintroduced training for nighttime driving into the programme at KAUST, in which nearly 150 students and faculty members participated. Driving conditions are remarkably different and often notoriously difficult at night, when vision is reduced, hindering an ability to spot hazards, junctions, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Crucially, Ford’s Driving Skills for Life programme also focuses heavily on distracted and impaired driving. According to Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO), more than 160,000* crashes in Saudi Arabia are caused by mobile phone use behind the wheel. “To reach Vision 2030’s target of a yearover-year decrease in road fatalities, road users need to have instilled in them the best safe-driving practices,” said Simonetta Verdi, Director, Government and Community Relations, Ford Middle East and Africa. “Ford Driving Skills for Life helps provide just that.” In efforts to further empower women, Ford Motor Company and Jeddah-based Effat University last year launched a special variation of Ford’s globally renowned and award-winning safe driving programme, Ford DSFL for Her. The programme was specially designed
to accommodate Saudi female students embarking on their journey to acquire a driver’s licence, and, by the end of 2018, had trained more than 200 Saudi women. Confirming an on-going and growing commitment to the region, and to newlylicensed female drivers in Saudi, Ford intends to offer a greater number of DSFL for Her sessions, with varying levels of driving ability and experiences, around the Kingdom. A signature programme of the Ford Fund, Driving Skills for Life is an international initiative for road safety created in cooperation with the Governors Highway Safety Association and a panel of safety experts. It captures newlylicensed drivers’ interest with free, hands-on courses that pair new drivers with professional instructors to focus on the issues and obstacles that cause crashes, including impaired and distracted driving. Now in its 16th year, Ford Driving Skills for Life has provided free real-world driver training in vehicles, or through its online academy, to more than one million newly-licensed drivers - including more than 4,000 students across the Middle East since 2013 - in more than 40 countries. In total, Ford has invested more than $50 million in initiatives globally as part of its long-standing commitment to promoting safety on the road.

Dark colours combined with a sophisticated lighting concept provide the interior of the NEOPLAN Skyliner with a futuristic look. “However, it is definitely the state-of-theart, multimedia game consoles with multitouch displays in a wide range of sizes that are especially eye-catching,” says Heinz Kiess, Head of Sales & Marketing at the Bus Modification Center in Plauen. The “FLiP2Go” educational coach was realised by the MAN bus modification experts at the Plauen plant. Based on the NEOPLAN Skyliner, 18 PlantAndEquipment.com | July 2019
it offers a fun approach to teaching children and young people throughout Austria about money matters. The Austrian savings bank, Erste Bank and the Erste Group are using the innovative learning facility to help young people find out about how to handle money and acquire skills on managing their financial affairs. How does it work? Seven interactive multimedia game consoles await visitors to the “FLiP2Go”, which they can operate together or against each other. The “World Trip” station, for example, is a virtual voyage, enabling players to see what effects their consumer decisions

The separate gaming cabins on the upper and lower decks are equipped with high-performing gaming PCs. Children and young people can play and solve various tasks on the multi-touch displays with 4K resolution that are embedded in stainless steel tables. High-quality hi-fi equipment ensures the right sound. “The challenge involved in the “FLiP2Go” was to integrate the extensive multimedia equipment of the individual stations as well as the higherlevel media control, consisting of a central computer with Intel i7-7700 UMTS router and WiFi access point in the NEOPLAN Skyliner,” says Heinz Kiess. The server racks needed were installed in the luggage compartment, where a standby genset with an external cooling system is also located. In addition to the gaming cabins, the lower deck of the premium coach also features
a gaming station, which is accessible for wheelchair users, a coat rack and a checkin counter encased in safety glass. This is where visitors embark on a multimedia journey experience on wheels. Up to 32 players can simultaneously complete the 100-minute game round on two levels of the NEOPLAN Skyliner. Game design, software and the interior design plans come from the Stuttgart-based Jangled Nerves agency. These were then implemented by the MAN experts for customised options in Plauen. The vehicle is operated by the coach operator Dr. Richard. “The MAN team in Plauen developed a unique vehicle within a very short time. It was solely due to the short construction time that we were able to complete the coach on time, despite the long planning phase,” says Johann Strasser, Technical Director at Dr. Richard Bus GmbH: “This NEOPLAN Skyliner is by far the most extraordinary coach in Dr. Richard’s history to date.”

olvo Trucks’ electric, connected and autonomous vehicle Vera will form part of an integrated solution to transport goods from a logistics centre to a port terminal in Gothenburg, Sweden. The assignment is a result of a new collaboration between Volvo Trucks and the ferry and logistics company, DFDS. The purpose of the collaboration is to implement Vera in a real application, enabling a connected system for a continuous flow of goods, from a DFDS’ logistics centre to an APM Terminals port facility in Gothenburg, for distribution across the world.

In 2018, Volvo Trucks presented its first electric, connected and autonomous solution, designed for repetitive assignments in logistics centres, factories and ports. Vera is suited for short distances, transporting large volumes of goods with high precision.

Moreover, necessary safety precautions will be taken to meet societal requirements for a safe path towards autonomous transports. As Volvo Trucks gains more experience, Vera has the potential to be used in similar applications as a complement to today’s transport solutions.
“Autonomous transports with low noise levels and zero exhaust emissions have an important role to play in the future of logistics, and will benefit both business and society. We see this collaboration as an important start and want to drive progress in this area. Vera may have a speed limit, but we don’t. Testing has already started and we intend to implement the solution within the coming years,” adds Mikael Karlsson.
FACTS: The assignment is to move containers from the DFDS logistics centre in Gothenburg to an APM terminals container terminal according to needed capacity. The autonomous system is monitored by an operator in a control tower who is also responsible for the transport. The solution is suited for repetitive flows with a maximum speed of 40 km/h. Infrastructure adaptations are part of the scope in the implementation of the total transport system, including automated gates at the terminals. Volvo Trucks and DFDS are main partners but several actors are involved in implementing Vera’s first assignment. DFDS provides ferry and transport services in Europe and Turkey, generating annual revenues of around DKK 17bn. The 8.000 employees are located on ships and in offices across 20 countries. DFDS is headquartered in Copenhagen, and listed on NASDAQ Copenhagen. APM Terminals is a port service and container terminal solution provider, operating a network of 76 ports globally. APM Terminals is a part of A.P. Moller - Maersk, an integrated container logistics company working to connect and simplify its customer’s supply chains, operating in 130 countries and employs roughly 70.000 employees. The initiative is carried out with support from the Swedish Innovation Agency Vinnova, the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Energy Agency through the Strategic vehicle research and innovation programme FFI.

Effective June 1, Dr. Peter Vaughan Schmidt, who is currently Head of Strategy Daimler Trucks, will lead this new, global and crossdivisional organization. In this position, he will continue to report directly to Martin Daum. Schmidt has 15 years of experience in the industry and in his previous position, he has been responsible for the development of Daimler Trucks’ strategy on automated vehicles. Peter Vaughan Schmidt: “With the Autonomous Technology Group, we are bringing together our global experts and their vast knowledge in automated trucking. In the first stage, we will focus on use cases of highly automated driving in defined areas and between defined hubs in the U.S.A. In doing so, we will work closely together with customers whose business matches this automated driving application. We will not only develop the respective technology but also set up the required operations infrastructure and network.”
Software development for highly automated driving will be one of the key activities of the Autonomous Technology Group. Another one will be the so-called vehicle project: On the one hand, the vehicle project will be responsible for the redundancy in the chassis enabling the vehicle’s systems to take over roles of a professional driver while on the road, providing the highest safety. On the other hand, the vehicle project will take care of the automated driving sensor kit integration (camera, lidar, radar), which - together with a very accurate map - is responsible for ensuring that the highly automated truck finds its own way on the road. The operations infrastructure and network to be set up by the Autonomous Technology Group - another key activity - will consist of one main vehicle control center as well as additional stations at logistics hubs.

Platooning in the Logistics Industry: Researchers See Great Potential in Real Operations after Tests Successful completion of pilot project run by DB Schenker, MAN Truck & Bus and Fresenius University of Applied Sciences
O
perating electronically linked trucks on German motorways is safe, technically reliable and easily applicable in the routine of a logistics company. These are the key results of the world’s first field test with truck platoons in real logistics operations, which the project partners presented in Berlin today. As part of a research project sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), professional drivers drove two electronically linked vehicles on the Autobahn 9 between the Nuremberg and Munich branches of the logistics company DB Schenker over the course of seven months. Having covered some 35,000 test kilometers, the truck drivers, who drove at a distance of only 15 to 21 meters, praised the driving 28 PlantAndEquipment.com | July 2019
comfort and the general sense of safety. The field test also demonstrated savings in fuel consumption. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) contributed funding of approx. 1.86 million euros to the research project. The project partners DB Schenker, MAN Truck & Bus and the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences presented the results at the Ministry. According to the project partners, the use of truck platoons could ensure more efficient use of space on motorways, less congestion and increased road safety. Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure said, “The mobility of the future will be automated and networked. Of course, this is also true for

Doll believes platooning possible on 40% of kilometers operated by land transport According to DB Schenker’s research, platooning can be used extensively in the logistics network. Alexander Doll, Member of the Management Board for Finance, Freight Transport and Logistics at Deutsche Bahn AG said, “We have analyzed our European transport network and it is safe to say that around 40% of the kilometers traveled could be carried out in platoons.” For this, however, further tests and ensuring the regulatory framework would be necessary. Customers would also benefit. “With platooning we can offer even more reliable transports.” The platooning system installed in the MAN trucks operated smoothly 98% of the time. Active interventions by the driver were necessary only once every 2,000 kilometers, which is much less than expected. In addition, the pilot project demonstrated a 3 to 4 percent reduction in fuel consumption. “We were able to show that platooning has the potential to contribute to the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. First and foremost, we are pleased that the system works reliably and can increase safety on the motorway. Accordingly, platooning is an important step for us on the way to automation,” said Joachim Drees, Chairman of the Management Board of MAN Truck & Bus SE.
Scientists confirm that drivers feel safe Scientists from the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences investigated the psychosocial and neurophysiological effects on the drivers. Having experienced the actual field test brought about a significant change in the previously sceptical attitude of the drivers. “A general sense of safety and trust
in the technology is echoed in the drivers’ assessment of specific driving situations. None of these were described as uncontrollable,” said Professor Sabine Hammer from the Institute for the Science of Complex Systems (Institut für komplexe Systemforschung, IKS) at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. The drivers experienced vehicles of other road users cutting in from adjacent lanes or cutting across multiple lanes as “disagreeable”, but not critical. “Due to the fast response times of the system, drivers would now prefer a distance of 10-15 meters,” said Hammer. “The EEG measurements show no systematic differences between platoon runs and normal runs when it comes to the neurophysiological stress placed on drivers, i.e. in terms of concentration or fatigue,” said Professor Christian Haas, Director of the IKS. For international use, the scientists recommend further research with longer periods in platooning mode. The project partners are convinced that the potential of truck platooning can be further increased by future developments. In addition, new digital business models in logistics are conceivable.
How platooning works The term “platooning” refers to a system that vehicles use on the road in which at least two trucks drive in a tight convoy on a motorway, supported by technical driving assistance and control systems. All vehicles driving in the platoon are electronically linked to each other. The truck in front sets the speed and direction, and the others follow.

Like the Cooper PRO Series LHS steer tire, the new trailer tire features Cooper’s ECO™ (Energy Conservation Optimization) technology. This combines tire design, compounding and construction to provide an ultra-low rolling resistance tire that both exceeds SmartWay standard requirements by 15 percent and meets the EPA’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions requirements set for 2021. To provide long miles to removal, the tire features 12/32nds of tread depth, and was designed with a V-shaped tread pattern, with ribs evenly spaced for better load distribution. The design helps ward off irregular wear, and its four-belt steel casing construction helps ensure a longlasting trailer tire that will provide multiple retreads to drive down costs. echnology company Continental is expanding its range of drive belts for the commercial vehicle aftermarket. More than 40 multi V-belts for the auxiliary drive have been added. These feature profile codes 4PK, 6PK, 8PK, 10 PK and 12PK - i.e. ranging from the narrow variant with four ribs to the widest with twelve. These are used, for example, in Mercedes-Benz, MAN and DAF buses and trucks. Continental’s new offering is aimed at independent commercial vehicle workshops, haulage companies with their own workshops and component wholesalers. Operational reliability in buses and trucks The new multi V-belts are made of fiberreinforced synthetic rubber with a polyester tension member. Continental manufactures its drive belts for the aftermarket to the same quality standards as its original equipment products, which are specially designed to meet the requirements of modern commercial vehicle units. That means workshops operating in the aftermarket can enjoy the same proven quality as original equipment. “Mechanics can therefore ensure the level of operational

Giti Launches First TPMS System for Commercial Fleets

iti Tire is proud to launch its first TPMS system for commercial tires. First announced at the CV Show in Birmingham, UK, ‘Giti Fleet SMART’ makes it possible for fleet owners and operators to continually monitor and analyze fleets’ tires. The acronym SMART stands for Smart, Monitoring, Air pressure, Real time, and Technology, and at its current stage will be available for Giti fleet customers in the EU market. Information about maintenance and other data is gathered instantly and electronically by the new TPMS system, which is then able to predict and prevent potential tire failures. In the case any loss in tire pressure is detected, SMART immediately sends notifications to the driver and the fleet’s base. The fleet is then able to analyze and address the situation, including contacting their nearest Giti dealer or utilizing the GitiAssist roadside program. Altogether, the system makes fleets more efficient, reducing their downtime, and therefore saving them money. . Pietrini and Sons, based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, added a Grove GRT655 to its fleet to complete the Riverwalk Project in Philadelphia. The rough terrain crane is helping construct the first few levels of a 28-story and a 32-story residential building. The GRT655 will be onsite through the completion of the first four floors of the two buildings. Fran Pietrini, CEO of B. Pietrini and Sons, said that the compact footprint of the crane along with its maneuverability would enable the company to deploy the GRT655 on this and other job sites in the future. He explained that the GRT655’s compact size was a big selling point compared to other cranes in the class. Even with the outriggers fully extended the compact footprint ensures that the crane can operate on narrow sites, like the Riverwalk Project. The small footprint wasn’t the only selling point of the GRT655. “The crane operators love the tilt cab,” Pietrini said. “It’s a lot more comfortable and the 20-degree tilt enables them to see exactly where they are placing loads, especially when the boom is at a high angle, which helps improve our job site visibility.” 38 PlantAndEquipment.com | July 2019
The concrete construction company uses the crane to assist with the form work and set the reinforcing steel. It also utilizes the crane to lift the cement bucket to exactly where it is needed, making the job site more efficient. The GRT655 features a 114 ft boom and a 55 USt lifting capacity. The GRT655 is not the only Manitowoc crane on the job site. While it will help build the base of the two buildings, B. Pietrini and Sons is deploying its Potain MR 608 luffing jib tower crane to help complete the upper levels of the two structures. Pietrini credited Darin D’Ascanio, a sales representative with Stephenson Equipment, Inc., Pennsylvania’s Grove, Manitowoc, National Crane and Potain dealer, with helping them purchase the best crane for its fleet. “This newer model outperforms other models in the class,” D’Ascanio said. “The features of this crane are exceptional, knowing what kind of jobs Pietrini performs ensured that they could maximize the GRT655’s utilization.” The project kicked off around October of 2018 and is expected to be complete in 2020.

MaK Eco-Friendly Power Solutions Ensure Less Emissions and more Fuel Savings The company’s environmentally friendly solutions are also cutting clients’ costs by driving downfuel consumption

aK Middle East LLC, established in Dubai in 2017 as the factory direct parts and service arm of parent Caterpillar Motoren has announced the next level of MaK branded eco-friendly and fuel efficient maritime propulsion system with its industryleading LNG engines. Relying on Caterpillar’s many years of experience with gas as a fuel for land based power, MaK dual-fuel marine engines have successfully penetrated the maritime market, driving the industry’s adoption of gas technology. Alan Naisby, Managing Director of MaK Middle East and MaK Asia said, “After much deliberation by shipping companies, LNG is now regarded as a bridge technology. Caterpillar’s known history of research and development with dual-fuel technology has allowed us to transfer much of our know-how to marine engines. Together with the IMO’s mandate for reduction in global emission limit on the seas, these have been the key drivers in the success of our LNG-fueled MaK engines.” Growing population Caterpillar Motoren’s addition of dual-fuel engines to its portfolio of MaK marine diesel engines was in the works even prior to MaK Middle East’s inception as a regional service provider. both the AIDAprima and AIDAperla cruise ships, this laid the groundwork to fully power the next generation of cruise ships including AIDAnova with 4 x VM 46 DF (dual fuel) engines, making that vessel the first in the world able to operate solely on LNG, drawing fuel from onboard tanks. Currently there are nine cruise ships on order to be delivered with MaK dual-fuel engines. Naisby stated, “In the cruise ship application, the 4 x VM 46 DF (dual fuel) engines provide 53,150 HP using computer-controlled fuel injection technology to enhance fuel economy. They also drastically reduce emissions given their ability to emit virtually no soot or sulfur oxides and far less NOx and CO2 than those that burn diesel. In the increasingly emissionssensitive cruiseship market segment these engine characteristics have led to some 37% of new cruise ships on order being designed with VM 46 DF (dual fuel) engines” He further added, “The appeal of our LNGpowered engines includes their ability to start and run on gas versus diesel, meaning

Additionally, the ability to operate on gas for extended periods in low load when only a fraction of the full power of the engine is required. These are both key features for cruise lines operating in heavily populated or environmentally sensitive areas.” Due in large part to its eco-friendly solutions, the MaK brand has been established as one of the top engine brands in the medium-speed propulsion market globally. The MaK M 46 DF (dual fuel) based propulsion unit comes as an in-line engine with six to nine cylinders and as a V-engine with 12 to 16 cylinders. Moreover, the MaK product line also includes the M 34 DF (dual fuel) engine, the M 20 C, M 25 C, M 32 C and M 43 C MDO/HFO propulsion engines and related marine generator sets that can be used in all commercial marine applications. Technological excellence While Caterpillar Marine’s product offering of green MaK solutions has effectively allowed
the company to improve emissions and its clients’ fuel consumption, system design technology has also played a major role in this area. Its hybrid propulsion system, comprising of MTA 628 azimuth thrusters and full electrical integration, mode selection and automation, allows vessels to operate mechanically, electrically or as a combination of both. This has served as a solution to make zero-emissions operation possible in tug and offshore applications. In addition to decreasing fuel consumption, Caterpillar Motoren’s technological expertise also ensures lower emissions, optimal maintenance, increased reliability and a reduction in overall costs. Metso to Accelerate Growth in Aggregates with the Acquisition of McCloskey
M
etso has signed an agreement to acquire McCloskey International, a Canadian mobile crushing and screening equipment manufacturer, to expand Metso’s offering in the aggregates industry globally and to strengthen the customer reach especially to general contractor customers. The mobile aggregate equipment market is expected to grow by 4-6% annually during 2019-2023, driven by the underlying road construction spend. With this acquisition Metso will be able to better take part in the attractive growth of mobile products within the aggregates industry. “This acquisition is in line with Metso’s profitable growth strategy. It strengthens our aggregates business in key growth areas. The different cycles of aggregates balance our previously more mining focused Minerals portfolio well,” says Pekka Vauramo, Metso’s President and CEO. “Customers in aggregates and construction have varying business needs. This acquisition supports our expansion plans to approach customers through multiple complementary channels and offerings to meet their diverse needs”, adds Markku Simula, President of the Aggregates Equipment business area in Metso. “Going forward, Metso plans to continue developing the McCloskey brands and distribution channels independent of the Metso channel. Synergies are apart from sourcing mainly revenue related, resulting from the wider offering available to both channels as well as additional crusher equipment, service and consumable sales,” he continues. In the 12-month period ending September 30, 2018, McCloskey had pro forma sales of CAD 464 million (EUR 308 million) and a pro forma EBITDA margin of 10.3%. The company’s

strong track record of profitable growth over the past several years is expected to continue in 2019. The company’s sales in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019, are expected to exceed CAD 500 million (EUR 330 million). The transaction is expected to be positive for Metso’s earnings per share in 2020. McCloskey will be reported in Metso’s Minerals segment. To ensure financing for the acquisition, Metso has agreed on a bilateral loan from Nordea Bank Abp. The loan has a maturity of two years and includes an option to extend the maturity by one year. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including anti-trust approvals. Closing is expected to take place during Q4 2019.

احدث االخبار //أم أي كي على براءة اختراع إنجاز ًا مميز ًا؛ حيث تم تركيبه في كل من سفينتي نقل الركاب "عايدة بريما" و "عايدة بيرال" ،والذي مهد ألن تكون سفينة الجيل الجديدة لنقل الركاب والرحالت البحرية "عايدة نوفا" معتمدة بالكامل على أربعة محركات من هذا الطراز ،ولتصبح أول سفينة نقل للركاب والرحالت البحرية في العالم يتم تشغيلها بوقود الغاز املسال كلي ًا ،والذي يتم تخزينها في خزان على منت السفينة ،واآلن هنالك 9 طلبات لبناء وتصنيع محركات "أم أي كي" مزدوجة الوقود ليتم تسليمها لعمالء من حول العالم". وأوضح نايسبي طريقة عمل تلك املحركات املبتكرة، قائ ً ال" :عند تركيبها في سفن نقل الركاب والرحالت البحرية ،توفر محركاتنا األربعة للوقود املزدوج قوة دفع تصل إلى 53,150حصان ،ومن خالل تقنية التحكم بالكمبيوتر بعملية حقن الوقود يتم تعزيز االقتصاد في استهالكه ،ما يؤدي إلى تقليل أكاسيد الكبريت بشكل كامل تقريب ًا ،كما أنها تنتج كميات أقل بكثير من أكاسيد النيتروجني وغاز ثاني أكسيد الكربون، مقارنة بتلك املحركات التي تعتمد على حرق الديزل. وفي قطاع نقل الركاب والرحالت البحرية الذي يعتبر حساس ًا تجاه االنبعاثات الغازية الضارة ،نجحت الخصائص الصديقة للبيئة في محركاتنا باملساعدة في استحواذنا على حوالي ٪37من سوق املحركات في صناعة بناء سفن الرحالت البحرية الجديدة". وأضاف نايسبي قائ ً ال" :تكمن جاذبية محركاتنا التي تعمل بالغاز الطبيعي املسال في قدرتها على التنويع في طبيعة الوقود الذي تستخدمه للعمل ،فحني تتحرك تلك السفن من رصيف امليناء فإنها تقوم باستخدام وقود الغاز الطبيعي املسال األكثر نظافة من وقود الديزل ،نظر ًا لحساسية موقع السفينة الذي قد يكون قريب ًا من التجمعات السكانية ،كما أن تلك السفن يمكنها أن تستخدم الغاز الطبيعي املسال عندما تكون حمولتها منخفضة وال تحتاج إلى قوة الدفع العالية من املحركات ،وهذه هي امليزات الرئيسة التي تدفع سفن نقل الركاب والرحالت البحرية الختيار محركاتنا، السيما عندما تعمل في مناطق مكتظة بالسكان أو حساسة تجاه ملوثات البيئة".
هذا القدر الكبير من الحلول الصديقة للبيئة ،أسس للمكانة العاملية لعالمة شركة "أم أي كي" التجارية، كواحدة من أفضل العالمات التجارية للمحركات في سوق الدفع املتوسط السرعة ،وتأتي محركات MaK DF 46 Mبست أو تسع اسطوانات مصطفة على محور واحد ،كما يوجد منها طراز آخر تصطف فيه االسطوانات على شكل حرف ، Vوتضم عدد ًا يتراوح بني 12إلى 16أسطوانة .عالوة على ذلك ،يشمل خط إنتاج الشركة أيض ًا املحرك ،DF 34 Mومحركات الدفع C 20 Mو C 32 Mو C MDO/HFO 43 M ومجموعات مولدات الكهرباء البحرية ،التي يمكن استخدامها في جميع التطبيقات البحرية التجارية. التميز التكنولوجي إلى جانب املنتجات الخضراء من شركة "كاتربيلر" من عالمة "أم أي كي" التي تسمح على نحو فعال بالتقليل من االنبعاثات الضارة وتحسني استهالك العمالء للوقود ،لعبت التكنولوجيا املتطورة واملستخدمة في تصميم أنظمة تلك املنتجات دور ًا رئيس ًا في تحقيق هذه النتائج ،فنظام الدفع الهجني 628 MTAوالذي يتألف من محركات الدفع الدورانية والتكامل الكهربائي الكامل واختيار األسلوب واألتمتة ،كل ذلك يسمح للسفن بالعمل ميكانيكي ًا أو كهربائي ًا أو من خالل املزج بني األسلوبني ،للمساعدة في توفير حلول تشغيل سفن القطر في مجال الخدمات البحرية من دون أي انبعاثات غازية ضارة. وتضمن الخبرة التكنولوجية لشركة "كاتربيلز موتورين" أيض ًا تقليل االنبعاثات ،وتوفير الصيانة املثلى ،واملوثوقية العالية لعمالئها وتخفيض التكاليف اإلجمالية لتشغيل سفنهم التي تعتمد على منتجاتها املبتكرة ،واختتم نايسبي تعليقه على القيمة املضافة التي تقدمها الشركة لعمالئها ،قائ ً ال" :فيما يتعلق بتبني حلول التشغيل النظيف والف ّعال والصديق للبيئة للسفن ،فإن صناعة نقل الركاب والرحالت البحرية تعتبر رائدة في هذا املجال .ونفخر في شركة "أم أي كي" وشركتنا األم "كاتربيلر موتورين" باملساهمة في تحقيق االستدامة بشكل واقعي في قطاع النقل البحري".

احدث االخبار //فورد كما وأعادت فورد طرح التدريب على القيادة الليلية في برنامجها في جامعة امللك عبداهلل للعلوم والتقنية ، والذي شارك فيه نحو 150طالب وأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية ،الس ّيما أن ظروف القيادة تختلف اختلفا ً ملحوظ ًا وغالب ًا ما تكون أصعب أثناء الليل حني ينخفض معدل الرؤية ،مما يعيق السائقني عن اكتشاف املخاطر والتقاطعات واملشاة وراكبي الدراجات وسائقي الدراجات النارية.
القيادة بنهاية ،2018وشاركت فيه أكثر من 200طالبة. وتأكيد ًا على التزامها املتواصل واملتنامي تجاه املنطقة ، وأيض ًا السائقات الحاصلت مؤخر ًا على رخص القيادة في اململكة العربية السعودية ،تعتزم فورد تنظيم املزيد من حصص برنامج مهارات القيادة من فورد لحياة آمنة في أنحاء اململكة ،تتفرع إلى مستويات متفاوتة حسب قدرة السائقني على القيادة وخبراتهم.

في العام املاضي ،أطلقت فورد برنامج مهارات القيادة من فورد لحياة آمنة للنساء في اململكة املصمم خصيصا إلعدادهن قبيل بدءهن مسيرة الحصول على رخصة القيادة
في عام ،2018استفاد أكثر من 1600سائق جديد من البرنامج في أنحاء منطقة الشرق األوسط وأفريقيا ، ليكون بذلك العام األكثر نجاح ًا للبرنامج العاملي الحائز على الجوائز حتى تاريخه

طلبا لشراء 373حافلة فولفو للمساعدة في تحسين التنقل داخل المدينة ،تبلغ قدمت هيئة الطرق والمواصالت ( )RTAفي دبي ً قيمة صفقة حافالت فولفو SB3المتوافقة مع معايير 474 6 Euroمليون درهم إماراتي ( 129مليون دوالر). ستكون الحافالت مزودة بشاشة لمس تفاعلية لعرض معلومات فورية حول الرحلة ،باإلضافة إلى ذلك فقد تم تجهيز الحافالت أيضا بنظام «الرقيب» لمراقبة سلوك السائق والذي يستخدم أحدث التقنيات لرصد عالمات تعب السائقين مما يساعد في جعل ً آليا لتسجيل العدد الفعلي رحالت الحافالت أكثر ً أمانا ،عالوة على ذلك ،فإن الحافالت مجهزة بنظام « الراصد» لعد الركاب ً للمسافرين ومطابقته مع نظام جمع األجرة اآللي. اكبا ،ومن إجمالي 373حافلة يوجد ما يقرب من 99حافلة ذات تصميم داخلي فريد موفرة بذلك مساحة سعة كل حافلة 74ر ً أكبر للركاب الواقفين وللمساعدة في استيعاب المزيد من ركاب المسافات القصيرة. تندرج هذه الحافالت تحت تصنيف مركبات الدرجة الثانية لألمم المتحدة والذي يتيح مرونة في تشغيل الحافالت على الطرق بين المدن أو في المسافات الطويلة ،الحافالت متوافقة مع نظام ITxPTالذي يتيح التشغيل البيني بين أنظمة تكنولوجيا المعلومات في وسائل النقل العام ،وذلك بفضل توافر قاعدة بيانات معلومات الحافالت المحفوظة في اإلمارات العربية المتحدة (سحابة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة). 68 PlantAndEquipment.com | July 2019

تطوير حقل الغاز الموجود في المياه الضحلة البحرية جنوب غرب مدينة أبو ظبي ،يقع حقل النفط إلى الغرب من المنطقة البحرية ألبو ظبي بين جزيرة دلما والحدود البحرية مع قطر ،وتبلغ السعة المخططة للتطوير 350مليون قدم مكعب في اليوم. الهدف من المشروع هو توفير إمدادات غاز اقتصادية وأكثر استدامة عبر تنفيذ خطة رئيسية متكاملة للغاز والتي ستزيد من اإلنتاجية واألداء والتوصيل. من المتوقع في يونيو 2019أن تحصل شركة بترول أبو ظبي الوطنية ( )ADNOCالمملوكة للدولة على عقد االعمال الهندسية والمشتريات والتشييد ( )EPCلمشروع مصنع معالجة الغاز والذي تبلغ تكلفته 450مليون دوالر لحقل دلما للغاز شديد الملوحة بحلول الربع الثالث من عام ،2019تم تقديم العطاءات الفنية مع آخر موعد لتقديم العطاءات التجارية في 20 مايو ،2019ومن المتوقع أن ُيمنح عقد EPCفي أغسطس 2019مع توقع استكمال المشروع وبدء التشغيل بحلول الربع األول من عام .2022

وافق صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم على مشروع تحسين طريق دبي -العين بقيمة 544.5مليون دوالر (2 مليار درهم إماراتي) مما سيحسن ربط الطريق مع العديد من الطرق السريعة مثل طريق الشيخ محمد بن زايد وطريق الشيخ زايد بن حمدان آل نهيان وطريق اإلمارات. ستعمل التحسينات على مضاعفة عدد الممرات من ثالثة إلى ستة ممرات في كل اتجاه على طول قطاع بطول 17كم ،كما أيضا ترقية ستة تقاطعات باإلضافة إلى إنشاء جسور وطرق خدمة جديدة على كال الجانبين ،وسيعمل تشمل أعمال المشروع ً المخطط على تحسين مدخل الطريق من 6000إلى 12000مركبة في الساعة ،باإلضافة إلى تخفيض وقت العبور من شارع اإلمارات إلى شارع عود ميثاء من 16دقيقة إلى 8دقائق. بدء من تقاطع طريق المرحلة األولى والتي تبلغ قيمتها 354مليون دوالر ( 1.3مليار درهم إماراتي) تمتد على طول 7كم ً حاليا يشهد الذي ايد ز اإلمارات إلى تقاطع طريق محمد بن زايد ،وتشمل هذه المرحلة ترقية التقاطع مع طريق الشيخ محمد بن ً أحجام مرور عالية ،كما تشمل األعمال بناء أربعة منحدرات لتخدم حركة المرور في أربعة اتجاهات ،والتي من المقرر أن تكتمل في النصف األول من عام 2020وتتضمن إنشاء جسر علوي ألربعة ممرات في كل اتجاه يعبر طريق دبي -العين مع إمكانية توسيعه إلى خمسة ممرات في المستقبل ،وتشمل األعمال تحسين المنحدر الحالي لخدمة حركة المرور القادمة من مجمع دبي الند السكني والمتجة غرًبا إلى القطاع المحيط بدبي من طريق دبي – العين. تتضمن المرحلة الثانية تحديث تقاطع ند الشبا عبر تحديث الجسر الحالي لخدمة حركة المرور من طريق دبي -العين إلى ند الشبا والعكس وكذلك تحسين الطرق السطحية الداخلية والخارجية في ند الشبا.
