RENAULT TRUCKS STARTED MARKETING A NEW MODEL FROM ITS USED TRUCKS FACTORY For its customers operating on the African continent and in the Middle East, where Euro 3 legislation is in force, Renault Trucks has developed the T X-Port model. This is a Renault Trucks T Euro 6, converted to a Euro 3 using strict industrial processes in the specialised workshops of the Used Trucks Factory in Bourg-en-Bresse, in order to guarantee the highest level of pollution reduction in force in these markets.

The conversion starts with dismantling the Euro 6 components, namely the silencer and AdBlue components, which are then sent to the manufacturer’s recycling network.

Operators in the Used Trucks Factory then install the Euro 3 components and the reinforced filtration system. The software and manufacturer’s documentation are updated, allowing the vehicle to be recognised throughout the network with its new characteristics.

The air and diesel filters are reinforced, enabling the vehicle to adapt to its new environment (topography and the characteristics of fuel distributed locally). Finally, ground clearance is increased by 30mm at the front and 20mm at the rear.

After conversion, the Renault Trucks T X-Port’s emission levels and engine performance (power and torque) are certified by

UTAC, an independent international organisation. The vehicle undergoes the same quality process as a new vehicle.

The Euro 3-certified Renault Trucks T X-Port comes with a 12-month international manufacturer’s warranty that covers all incidents relating to the engine, gearbox and axles and is valid throughout Renault Trucks sales and service outlets in Africa and the Middle East. The T X-Port is only available from the Renault Trucks network..

HINO MOTORS TO ENTER DAKAR RALLY 2021 Hino Motors, Ltd. will be racing as Hino Team Sugawara in the Dakar Rally 2021, to be held in Saudi Arabia from January 3 to 15. This will be the 30th Dakar Rally for Hino, keeping its relentless spirit of challenge since 1991 when it became the first Japanese maker of commercial vehicles to compete in the rally.

In last year’s race, which was the first to be held in Saudi Arabia, the HINO500 Series truck driven by Teruhito Sugawara won the 11th consecutive championship in its class. The vehicle used in the 2021 rally will feature various improvements incorporating new developments from lessons learned in the last race, aiming for an even shorter time.

The top positions of the Dakar Rally truck division are dominated by monster trucks running on engines with 10-litreplus displacements. HINO TEAM SUGAWARA, working under the motto “small can beat big,” has applied its knowledge and

skills to boldly take on its opponents and keep up the fight on even terms, rewriting its own records in the process.

YANMAR ESTABLISHES NEW PARTS WAREHOUSE IN DUBAI Yanmar has announced the establishment of its Middle East branch, located in the UAE, near Dubai Airport. The office will be operated by Yanmar subsidiary and Asia regional headquarters, Yanmar Asia (Singapore) Co., Ltd., and will provide sales and service support to dealers in Yanmar’s Middle East territory. The Middle East branch began operation in January 2019 in the Dubai Airport Free Zone providing support and training in Yanmar’s marine pleasure and marine commercial engines business in the Middle East

region. JOHNSON ARABIA LAUNCHES NEW GROVE RT550E CRANES As the market condition improves, Johnson Arabia has seen a trend in the UAE oil & gas sector where there are new exploration efforts to unearth resources for the coming years.

Johnson Arabia has introduced a fleet of ten new Grove RT550E to assist on projects in the oil & gas sector and other industries. The Grove RT550E can lift up to 45 tonnes of load, measures 11.7m long, 2.53m wide with a 6m foot print and weighs under 29 tonnes.

RITCHIE BROS. GEARS UP FOR FINAL DUBAI AUCTION OF 2020 Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the international demand for heavy equipment and trucks continues to be strong.

Bidder attendance at Ritchie Bros. auctions has been steady throughout 2020. The company’s Dubai auction in September even broke a five-year record, with more than 1,280 bidders joining from 86 countries - a 32% increase compared to the same auction in 2019. More than 2,000 pieces of heavy equipment, trucks, and other items were sold in the auction.

Since March 2020, all Ritchie Bros.’ auctions are held entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Europe and the Middle East, the company exclusively uses its ‘Timed Auctions’ - an easy to use online auction format that allows bidders to bid over several days until the auctions close. Ritchie Bros.’ Timed Auctions are gaining popularity, with bidder participation often breaking site records in 2020. An advantage of the Timed Auctions is that participants have more time to get their bids in and receive notifications when they’re outbid or in the lead. The Dubai auctions are no exception, with more and more Ritchie Bros. customers joining the online auction experience. Already, hundreds of new bidders joined the Dubai auctions throughout 2020.

Businesses in the Middle East and outside are working with the Dubai team to add inventory to the final Dubai auction of 2020. Again, the auction will take place entirely online, with

LIEBHERR DELIVERS TWO DUTY CYCLE CRAWLER CRANES IN DUBAI The local representatives of Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH in Dubai handed over two 130-tonne duty cycle crawler cranes to Salim Equipment Rental LLC in Dubai.

Earlier this year, Salim Equipment Rental LLC and their JV partner Daikyo Kenki Co. decided to increase their fleet with

two duty cycle crawler cranes to offer their services to the specialized foundation industry in the Middle East.

Sajil Salim and Ryuichi Uchida, co-owners of the machines, investigated the market and decided that the Liebherr HS 8130.1 is the perfect equipment to start this new business segment. Not only the proven technology for operation in the harsh environment, but also the local support from Liebherr’s own service organizations in the Middle East convinced Salim.

The cranes were delivered in July 2020 and handed over by Liebherr representatives, Knut Brandenburg and Samir Hussein.

Equipped with the latest Liebherr technology, including the automated freefall system and the unique Liebherr duty cycle features, the cranes are perfectly configured for the Middle East. ENOC LINK LAUNCHES BIODIESEL FOR COMMERCIAL FLEETS ENOC Link, the digital mobile fuel delivery service for businesses in the UAE, announced the launch of bio-diesel fuel for commercial fleets; offering them easy and convenient access to Biodiesel B5, B20 and B100. The recent expansion in ENOC Link’s operations makes it the only digital mobile fuelling operator in the UAE to offer customers bio-diesel.

Biodiesel is an advanced alternative green fuel, commonly used for diesel engines and has proven to significantly reduce carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. SDLG SCORES A ‘HOLE IN ONE’ Recently, SDLG delivered two units of L968F wheel loaders to UAE contractor, Desert Group LLC. The loaders are being used on a year-long project to build a 9-hole golf course on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, where their uptime is crucial to completing the development on time.

The wheel loaders will be used to transport off-site materials onto the golf course, including boulders and sand, which will be used for landscaping. “The loaders will be covering roughly 1.2km in distance with each trip they make, so having a smooth loading and delivery process is really important to keep us on schedule,” said Lawrence Walsh, Manager at Desert Group LLC.

The main challenge when working in desert conditions is not only the heat but the dust too. “We have to clean the filters regularly and ensure regular breaks for staff, especially during the summer,” said Walsh. ith the onset of the pandemic, companies and businesses have had to adapt to a new mindset of continuous change as the business environment evolves. It has taken till the last quarter for things to actually get back on track after the derailment of the first three quarters of the year.

“The new normal these days isn’t easy. It’s a huge challenge.

The pandemic has globally affected all sectors. However, we believe following our policies and with near future market growth, there will be enormous opportunities for us to achieve through various channels,” says Mohamed Al Mulla, General Manager at Masaha Global.

Regionally the construction equipment industry has been more or less sturdy. Projects have been delayed and postponed but work has been ongoing throughout the year even if at a slower pace than usual.

In the early days of the pandemic, the company also worked closely with the local government to help in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 virus. Masaha provided machines to support the Kuwaiti government’s nationwide sanitisation initiatives. “We wanted to do as much as we could to support the government in achieving its goals and objectives in making the country safe for all its citizens and residents.

We voluntarily provided more than 2,500 units of machines and manpower.”

Kuwait-based Masaha Global, has taken the bull by its horns when it comes to tackling the consequences of the pandemic to its business. While things slowed down, Masaha Global was quick to conduct several studies and surveys aimed at its short and long term goals relating to the local and GCC market.

Focusing on customer needs On the business side, the new normal means working days don’t work like they used to - both from a service provider and a customer perspective. Communication and marketing strategies have had the most relearning. This was not the time to ask customers for additional spend. This has been a time where service providers have had to provide support, continuous communication, virtual learning channels, training programmes and looking after ad hoc requests. “Customers are looking for increased bolstering in terms of service. We were of course there to fulfil all requests. Communication was and is a major factor in easing customer nerves as well as putting the right message across,” continues Al Mulla.

Enhancing communication and customer service is how Masaha is tackling this pandemic.

“There has also been an urgent need to rethink and reformulate marketing strategies and price/value programs.

We have been forced to take a modern approach to how we think about promoting our services to new and existing customers. Service has had to remain on top at all times.”

Moving online The pandemic also saw Masaha Global organizing their first ever online auction. While it was a challenge setting everything up, the potential for success was worth pursuing.

“The first machinery auction in Kuwait helped us achieve the best sale ever in town,” says Al Mulla.

It was a completely new experience for the market hence a major event. Masaha Global created an interactive and responsive website with demos taking customers through the entire bidding and buying process. They established customer support channels through a 24-hour call center as well as a helpline through social media. Customers could also book in person meetings.

The end-to-end process was simple - customers had to read the bonded draft contract prior to registering online, accept the terms and conditions and then a bid number would be generated. This bid number - unique to each customer - would be used for the buying/selling process. Equipment inspection was also available to the customer based on their preferences.

Once satisfied, the item would then be delivered to the customer’s location. “It was a resounding success, since the entire process was so simple with clear guidelines every step of the way. We continue to develop and deliver the best client experience,” says Al Mulla..

Bulk handling In the mining process, the environment is a major consideration. “We are a big advocate of transportation via conveyor systems to keep the use of trucks/dumpers at a minimum,” says Kerler. This not only saves costs but also protects the environment.

“We have successfully installed multiple conveyor systems with electric power recovery, which means we generate electricity as a by product while transporting bulk material downhill,” he adds.

Environment The environment is a major consideration for the company as it begins work on any new site. Extracting useful material from underground is a disruptive process for the natural habitat involved. Materials such as limestone, gravel, clay are quarried in large quantities for use in the concrete, cement and glass industries. A recent project undertaken by the company was of the design, manufacturing and installation of the biggest crushing plant for limestone. That plant was made for the biggest limestone quarry in the Middle East and one of the biggest in the world. Its feed capacity was 3,500 tonnes per hour. The final production capacity was 2,800 t/h. “The engineering and core equipment is supplied by our German supply partner, FAV Vollert KG, while we supply steel supports, silos and duct works. Dust emission and spillage from conveyors is a major concern for most installations. Our conveyors are designed to eliminate these problems using innovative belt scrapers, robust skirt mountings and rubber skirting, and properly engineered feed and discharge chutes,” he elaborates.

Three dimensional designs help their clients in understanding the actual physical installation required and comprise substantial details that initiate easier communication ensuring a project’s success. Design drafts are also converted into animated models or 3D virtual models eliminating possible installation errors right at the design stage.

Market status Quarry Mining was fortunate to receive a large contract in December 2019, which kept them busy till August 2020.

“We received a contract for 28 conveyors with high specifications [the material being conveyed was potash which requires extremely delicate handling] and honestly being hyper detail oriented we couldn’t have asked for better timing. Plus, we won this project against our international competitors,” says Kerler gratefully.

“Demand for new projects has been low over the past few months but we are receiving concrete inquiries again and we are confident to receive new orders shortly,” he says.

Quarry Mining’s UAE market is well established, and the company’s focus remains very much on the growth of the manufacturing industries in the country. Plus, they are in the process of establishing a new company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called Quarry Mining KSA Ltd. This will be located in Ras Al Khair - the new hub for the Saudi mining industry which has its own seaport. The company also has interests in the mining market in Africa..

USED MACHINES WITH A DIFFERENCE Market uncertainty and high new equipment acquisition costs are driving contractors to increasingly look for used equipment solutions. Buying used machines from an authorised dealer with warranty provides peace of mind to businesses, explains Amjad Atieh, Rental and Used Equipment Manager at Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar.

hile used equipment was once primarily bought by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), today used machines are bought by every company in the market, both small and large, says Amjad Atieh, Rental and Used Equipment Manager at Mohamed Abdulrahman AlBahar. Large companies are being more creative and dynamic with their fleets, and watching their costs with the uncertain economic outlook.

For their core equipment fleet and the build of their machines – equipment they are sure will be busy for the next five years – contractors buy new; for machines for additional jobs that they will need for one or two years, they buy used; and for fleet additions during peak activity on a project, they rent, he explains.

For Al-Bahar, Caterpillar dealer for five GCC countries since 1959 (the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar), the increasing interest in used equipment plays to its strengths.

The dealer has a large rental fleet with additional machinery coming off lease and via trade-ins, meaning it has a large pipeline of used equipment to sell. It has been serviced according to standard Caterpillar service intervals, by skilled technicians using genuine spare parts, and with full dealer access to a machine’s service history. Most used machines sold

by Al-Bahar come with a warranty, typically 6-12 months, to

give peace of mind to buyers, and finance is also available via Cat Financial.

“The main differentiator for us over other [used equipment] suppliers in the region is our Certified Used Brand,” says Atieh. A warranty on a used machine can be costly for a dealer, because they have to absorb additional costs if repairs are needed, but Al-Bahar is confident in the quality of its machines, knowing they have been correctly maintained and serviced. The firm also wants to ensure that clients are fully satisfied, in order to maintain long-standing relationships.

“For us it’s about providing a solution to our customers,” says Atieh. “So we do everything possible to ensure the machine is thoroughly inspected and serviced – the engine, transmission, hydraulic system, checking for leaks, the body – we make sure to rectify and repair every single issue to the highest standard, using professional service technicians and using all the time Cat genuine parts.”

One satisfied client is United Engineering Construction Co. (UNEC), a Dubai-headquartered general contracting company with extensive experience across the construction industry.

UNEC has been buying used machines from Al-Bahar for more than a decade, including telehandlers (TH417, TH514, TH580, TH414), the 950H wheel loader, the CS533 compactor,

skid steer loaders (226, 216) and backhoe loaders (422F, 422E) – 42 machines in total.

Key attractions of buying from Al-Bahar were service history transparency (which helps with planning ongoing maintenance), fixed prices and instant quotes. Since longevity was the main concern, the overall goal was to find durable machines with reliable support which would not upset the budget, says Saad Dalbah, Plant Manager at UNEC. “Catcertified used (CCU) machines from Al-Bahar are the best option in the current market if you are in need of good machines with performance and good value.”

Al-Bahar has always focused on customer value, so helping UNEC meet its requirements was its priority. Commenting on the decade-old relationship, Used Equipment Manager Anas Ashour says: “UNEC is a very special customer for us. We are glad they appreciate Al-Bahar for the ease of doing business – starting from the transparency in the service history of the machines, fixed prices and instant quotes they received.”

A more cautious outlook

the buyer may be able to sell it after a year or two without significant loss depending on the overall market conditions, something that appeals to customers.

“Greater uncertainty in the markets means that customers are trying to limit their risks, including shying away from equipment with high acquisition costs,” explains Atieh. “When customers are considering used machines, they are looking to reduce their acquisition cost, and by that they are reducing their investment and the risk in that investment.”

While brand-new machines have obvious advantages and are indispensable for demanding applications and major projects, used machines fill an important niche, such as applications requiring a machine that runs less than five hours a day on average – or around 1,500 hours a year.

“Part of our salesmen’s responsibility is to advise their customers when it’s better to buy a new machine, and when the used option is the right solution for them. It’s about machine utilisation and the customer’s budget,” Atieh concludes..

Al-Bahar offers the used machines most commonly used across rental fleets and by end users. Common models include medium-sized machines in the earth moving segments, including 20-40-tonne excavators, five-tonne payload wheelloaders like the 950 and 966, and D8 dozers, which are the top-selling machines both new and used. Compactors and smaller machines such as backhoe loaders and skid steer loaders are also popular.

Most of the used equipment stock is four to five years old, with less than 10,000 hours on the clock and still in its first life.

“Our primary focus is to offer high quality, young machines to our customers,” says Atieh.

An advantage of a used machine at around this age is that it has already undergone significant depreciation, meaning

THE ART OF DOZING While bulldozers are tough machines capable of moving mountains of rock or sand, fleet managers need to select the correct machine configuration and ensure that operators are using the right technique for optimum productivity on site.

I

n Saudi Arabia, with major housing developments being built around the country as part of the Vision 2030 drive to boost home ownership, with two thirds of Saudis under the age of 35, bulldozers are key to clearing and levelling sites before construction. The dozer is often one of the first pieces of equipment on-site, says Ahmed A Fathullah, Regional Sales Manager at Zahid Tractor, the Caterpillar dealer for the kingdom, who says that demand for major housing developments and new cities expansion will also continue to drive demand for new roads construction and building material. The mining business is picking up, with increased demand for large dozers from mines and quarries, says Fathullah. Due to pandemic-related travel restrictions there are fewer operators available, which has pushed up demand for rentals.

The Cat D9R is the top-selling unit in the central region, with the D8 and D10 also widely used. The D8R configured for waste handling is a popular machine for

waste managing applications, such as municipal landfills, says Fathullah. It features large tracks, improved plate capacity to reduce ground pressure, and a large-capacity blade. “For waste management, Cat installs a very effective package to improve the life of the undercarriage and add guards for the transmission, undercarriage and engine, which prevents debris entering the engine,” says Fathullah.

Durability, ease of maintenance and effective after-market support are important features for bulldozer customers, he says. For large projects, that means the option to have technicians on-site and regular visits from service teams, to ensure that machines are reliable and have maximum up-time, especially on remote job-sites. The machines are able to work through demanding desert conditions, he says: “We are always working with customers and Caterpillar to continuously improve the product and its configuration, including for special applications. Our customers are highly experienced and have very high demands for their machines, which we are able to meet.”

One key design feature on Cat dozers is the elevated high sprocket, which gives the machines their distinctive profile.

On the D9R, the elevated sprocket and fully suspended undercarriage work together to increase traction and create a smoother ride for operators, while the elevated sprocket design transfers implement shock loads to the mainframe, isolating final drives, axles and steering components from harsh impacts and resulting in higher production and longer component life. The Bogie suspension also allows the track to conform to ground conditions, providing up to 15% more ground contact, especially in hard, uneven terrain, while an undercarriage idler guard provides additional wear protection from abrasive material.

says Fathullah, and Zahid Tractor carries out regular training with customers. Onboard machine control technology that can improve dozer accuracy is also of interest to contractors, but is not yet widely used. Improved accuracy can be a requirement on projects with very high technical standards or a complex design, such as an airport, stadium or golf course.

Fathullah says the firm receives enquiries on machine control, and believes demand will grow as operating costs continue to increase and designs become more sophisticated. “We believe that demand for this solution will increase in the near future,” he says.

Made in Japan Known for its quality, bulldozers are one of the core product lines for Komatsu, the second largest equipment manufacturer in the world by revenue. Top selling models in the Middle East include the D155A-6, widely used for construction projects and in rental fleets; and the larger D275A-5R and D375A-6R models for the quarry and mining segment, said Jehad N. Jayyousi, Assistant Manager – Marketing at Komatsu Middle East.

The Komatsu bulldozers sold in the GCC are all produced in Japan, and all major components are built in-house, ensuring they’re optimized to work together and have undergone strict quality control checks, and meaning that all the service can be done by the distributor (rather than a customer needing to contact different suppliers as when machines are built with component from multiple brands), says Jayyousi. “If you talk to any customer, the first word that he associates with Komatsu is quality – we build high-quality and very durable machines.”

The Komatsu bulldozers feature the low-drive system, part of the design philosophy behind them. “The key feature of the low drive is that the machine’s center of gravity becomes low. This improves the machine stability and the dozing and ripping performance,” explains Motoyasu Kakita, Manager, Product Marketing at Komatsu Middle East.

Another feature on the D275A-5R and other mining dozers is automatic control of machine speed to prevent excess shift slip, says Kakita. The newly designed powertrain electronic control system features an Electronic Controlled Modulation Valve (ECMV), which automatically adjusts clutch engagement depending on travel conditions, and controls steering clutches and brakes in response to the conditions.

For example, when dozing downhill, the ECMV automatically controls steering clutches and brakes depending on incline of machine or degree of load, reducing counter-steering and producing smooth dozing operation. The overall effect is to improve the operator experience, increase productivity and accuracy of the grade, and reduce fuel consumption and unnecessary wear on the shoe, says Kakita.

straighter S blade for highest penetration. The firm frequently recommends the SU blade, which offers a balance between penetration force and capacity. Another option is the Sigma Dozer with a Sigma-shaped blade, as in the Greek letter Σ.

Rather than material being spilled around the side of the blade, the Sigma Dozer blade’s patented design heaps it up in the center for improved rolling, allowing the machine to move more material and use less fuel.

Informing customers of the best options for a specific project or location is also part of the service. Komatsu’s application engineers visit a site to study a project and the amount of material that needs to be moved, in order to provide a fleet recommendation. Designing a more efficient work plan for a customer often decreases operating costs.

One of the biggest variables on any site is ground conditions.

“The rule of thumb is that we will choose the narrowest shoe possible that provides enough flotation,” explains Jayyousi. “A long, wide track will increase flotation and help the bulldozer work, but on a rocky site it will also increase wear because you are increasing the contact area.”

The material to be moved also affects blade selection.

a fault. “In a nutshell, Komatsu dozers are leading the market in addition to a considerably high resale value,” says Jayyousi.

High Drawbar Pull In its factory in Poland, Liugong Dressta Machinery produces a large range of bulldozers. The large TD-25 and TD-40 models are its two main machines sold in the Middle East.

Both machines were relaunched as face-lifted machines in recent years, with a number of product improvements, most noticeably an updated cab with ROPS and FOPS integrated into the cabin structure rather than external, meaning increased visibility and safety for the operator, says Product Director Erçin Güleryüz.

Komatsu offers a range of different blades for its dozers.

For a municipal job in Ras al Khaimah on which a large amount of sand needed to be moved – mainly cut and fill – the recommendation from the application engineer was to use the slot dozing technique. Komatsu arranged operator training for over 50 operators to ensure they became familiar with the technique, whereby each trip is made in the same path and the material pushed into the slot is retained in front of the blade, meaning bigger loads can be handled. It resulted in significant savings for the client, in both fuel and machine hours.

When buying a new machine, customers typically look at total cost of ownership, which includes initial price, owning and operating costs, productivity and resale value. Operator comfort is also increasingly important for contractors in our region, a trend that plays to Komatsu’s strengths, says Jayyousi. “In our D155A-6, we can achieve the formula of the lowest cost of ownership.”

Komtrax, Komatsu’s telematics system, monitors machine location and health, alerting machine owners when error codes are detected. It also helps technicians to plan maintenance or repairs, and bring the right tools and spare parts when there is

Another feature of the dozer range is the high-capacity fuel tank, which on remote job-sites is especially efficient as it reduces the number of fill-ups required, allowing refuelling to be synched with shift changes.

The TD-40 is Dressta’s biggest dozer. Key productivity features include large blades and high drawbar pull, for a high push load that bolsters productivity. The effectiveness of its ripper is boosted by high hydraulic power and its heavy weight.

The 41.5-tonne operating weight TD-25 is widely sold throughout the Middle East for road projects and desert landscaping, as well as oil & gas. The dozer can be fitted with wide track shoes that allow it to be used on very soft ground material, such as desert. Machines are fitted with a special cooling package for machines sold into the Middle East, so that it can operate even at the highest recorded ambient temperatures, says Güleryüz.

“The key features of our machine are drawbar pull and capacity of the blade, which allows customers to move more material quicker, meaning higher productivity, which is the most important aspect of a dozer as it is used on a project,” he says, adding that a new mid-weight machine is also upcoming..

AFRICA’S HEAVIEST EVER EQUIPMENT TRANSPORT Kenmare Resources plc’s mining plant has been safely transported from its previous mining area at Namalope to Pilivili, a new high-grade ore zone at the Moma Mine, in Mozambique. The transport consisted of a Wet Concentrator Plant and its dredge.

It is the heaviest piece of mining equipment to be moved in Africa, to date. With 290 axles required to lift and transport the WCP B-unit, the move also represented the most SPMT axles used in Africa and one of the largest moves of a single piece of mining equipment in the world.

Mammoet has extensive experience in moving entire plants for major industries. This expertise, combined with the capacity and capability to carry out such operations, worldwide, ensured the project was safely and efficiently executed.

Having considered numerous options, it was chosen to move these assets intact and by road, as this was the lowest-risk option and limited the time out of production. Disassembling and reassembling the plant would have taken significantly longer and transporting the plant by sea barge may well have resulted in substantial delays - as a significant period of forecasted calm seas would be needed for this option.

Mammoet engineers were able to provide a safe and effective solution to load, move and unload the plant in one piece.

First, the plant was floated into an excavated starter pond and placed on constructed concrete plinths. The pond was then drained, allowing 290 axle lines of SPMTs (in 5 x 58

configuration) to be positioned underneath the plant, before it was moved along a 23km long, purpose-built road with a weight-bearing capacity of 8.4 t/m2, to its new location.

In Pilivili, the operation was completed in reverse: the plant was positioned on top of concrete plinths and then pond around it was flooded, which allowed the plant and the dredge to float to their new mining position.

WCP B weighs approximately 7,100 tonnes, including ballast, and measures 80m long, 60m wide and 24m high. The move was particularly unusual due to the combination of the weight of the load and the length of the distance travelled.

The team decided to deploy the 8-axle semi modular trailer with excavator deck. The equipment was selected based on the critical dimensions of the tanks as well as the allowed bridge load dimensions on the bridges, electrical cables and sign posts present on the route.

The trailer was assembled with a front triceland excavator deck at Sarens’ workshop. The rear saddles were placed on the deck and the tanks were safely transported to the refinery..

W

hile the coronavirus pandemic has affected many elements of the transport and logistics business, it has also brought into stark relief the importance of the trucking industry, a vital lifeline in ensuring that supermarkets are stocked with food and other essentials.

“I was very happy to hear that transport and logistics were classed as system relevant/essential services – I had never heard that before COVID-19. But of course it is an essential service transporting goods every day,” says Joerg Mommertz, Head of Sales Area MEALA, MAN Truck & Bus. MAN launched its new generation of trucks in February, starting with the new TGX, but the MENA rollout will start in earnest in spring 2021, including in countries such as Algeria and Saudi Arabia where the CKD plants need to be reconfigured for the new models. Mommertz says the new range has a strong focus on driver comfort, safety, efficiency and connectivity, including features such as adaptive cruise control (requiring GPS).

Driver comfort hasn’t traditionally been a focus in the region, but that’s changing. “Getting qualified drivers will be a challenge in the future, and driver comfort also contributes to safety,” says Mommertz. “The new truck offers the service provider the highest standards of safety and comfort.”

Connectivity includes remote services and diagnostics, telematics and integration of body building solutions into the steering and management controlling functions of the truck, so that cranes, lifts and other solutions can be operated without an additional controller device. With increased demand from end customers to be able to track their goods, the trucks also feature enhanced GPS navigation tools, including tracking trailer loading.

In Europe, improved fuel efficiency of 8.5% has been confirmed by the TÜV, Germany’s Technical Inspection Association. This will vary between MENA markets based on different emission standards, but Mommertz says: “Overall this represents a large fuel saving in today’s logistics business.”

Regional fleet requirements increasingly resemble those in Europe, he says. “In MENA there is a higher demand for robustness; the truck has to be able to meet the climate and off-road applications. But there is greater demand for connectivity and service solutions around the vehicle – professional customers in MENA are demanding this to the same level as MAN customers in Europe.”

Nevertheless, from the point of view of the OEM and its in-country distributors, high-tech connectivity solutions providing diagnostic and maintenance information still rely on the core competence of being able to fix any problems with a customer’s vehicle in the workshop.

“Therefore, the old-fashioned business of repairing a track in work in a workshop is very important, and here you have to have a large, dense and highly qualified service network with motivated and skilled mechanics,” says Mommertz. “The COVID-19 situation has shown that [our service network] is an asset for us. We never received a single customer complaint that he can’t operate his truck, even during the downtime in all of the countries.”

Looking at the business environment, Mommertz says some MENA countries are doing surprisingly well when it comes to the truck business, with demand stable due to requirements for fleet renewal. The development of e-commerce, especially in the GCC, is also set to drive additional demand, and MAN is increasingly marketing its TGE commercial van line, with GWV of 3.5- 5.5 tonnes, partly to cater to last-mile delivery needs.

“What worries me a little bit is the liquidity in some markets, because liquidity – cash – depends strongly on the commodities, and we have seen oil & gas is currently not the most promising business sector in the future. This is a

weakness in the economies in the North African countries and in the Middle East, and it’s something they need to overcome.”

Running costs In Egypt, Renault Trucks’ fuel efficiency is applauded by customers, says a representative from Triangle Heavy Equipment, the distributor. This is further boosted by solutions such as Optifuel Infomax, a software that monitors the behavioural patterns of drivers and recommends actions to optimise fuel consumption.

“Chassis reinforcement, especially across model K and C ranges, also allows customers to make fewer round trips, allowing them to capitalise on productivity and robustness for work in extreme conditions,” he says. Other features include the widest windshield sizes available on the market and the highest approach angle, which are significant for driver comfort and safety.

The heavy-duty C and K range vehicles are popular, with the C range targeted at the on-road and construction sector, and the K range designed for severe conditions. The K range features an all-steel bumper, excellent ground clearance and the best approach angle on the market, while numerous chassis reinforcements make it suitable for even the toughest conditions, the representative says.

He adds: “The Renault Trucks C range is perfectly suited to long-distance applications (long haul). It features a high payload, low fuel consumption and excellent pulling power.

Manoeuvrability and obstacle clearance capacity make it an excellent choice for professionals delivering materials in both highway and urban settings.”

MAN launched a new generation of trucks earlier this year, will rollout in MENA coming early next year.

Total cost of ownership is the main factor when purchasing a new commercial vehicle, with current figures showing that the cost of operating a vehicle for 500,000km is on average three times the purchase price, making it the major cost component for a commercial vehicle fleet.

Local high-tech IVECO has a strong position in North Africa, though with different penetration in each market, says Fabio De Serafini, Africa & Middle East Business Director, IVECO. In Morocco and Tunisia, the firm has a high market share in the light range with Daily Chassis Cabs and vans with gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3.5-7.2t, powered with a 3.0 litre engine with 146Hp (Euro 4 emission) with manual transmission and two engines 2.3l 136Hp and 3.0l 170Hp with automatic transmission (Euro 5 emission).

“Our Eurocargo range (medium range) is highly appreciated in Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt,” says De Serafini. “In the heavy range we have two different models. The Stralis, for long haulage missions, is one of the market leaders in Morocco and Tunisia; and the Trakker, for heavy off-road, has a good penetration in all North Africa countries.”

The factory is expected to be constructed over a 1.6m sqm plot of land within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), and would be 70% funded through loans. The project would be implemented over two phases, with the $1.6bn first phase providing an ammonia and methanol capacity of 400ktpa and 1mtpa, respectively.

The second phase, which will cost an estimated $1bn, will add new production lines of acetic acid, MTO, and calcium ammonium nitrate. Phase 1 will require total equity investment

of $480m, all of which would be funded through internally generated cash. While the ownership structure of the project is yet to be announced, it was previously reported that Abu Qir Fertilizers would own 25%, while Helwan Fertilizers would own 25%, and Al Ahli Capital 50%. The timeline of the project is also yet to be determined, although it is expected that it will not be less than 4-5 years. Naeem Research views a positive development in the long-term for Abu Qir Fertilizers, especially given the advantage that the factory is likely to source the natural gas feedstock at a price of less than $4.5/mmbtu.

Trinity Energy is planning to build $500m crude oil refinery plant at Paloch in South Sudan. The company has identified and secured land as well as concluded feasibility study and designs for the refinery. It has also engaged Chemex Global, an America-based full-service EPC/EPCM firm that offers a boutique service experience for modular and conventional refinery and energy construction projects as the project manager for this project.

Trinity Energy is also close to tying up project preparatory work financing from Afreximbank, which will aid in engineering and design work for the facility.

ROMANIAN COMPANY PURCHASES 13 HITACHI USED EXCAVATORS The 13 ZX250LC-6 construction excavators were delivered to CIS GAZ Srl by Romania’s authorised Hitachi dealer Utirom Invest Srl (Utirom) and have been immediately put to work on the Romania to Republic of Moldova gas pipeline.

The Hitachi ZX250LC-6s will be involved in the construction of two gas pipelines (Onesti to Gheraesti and Gheraesti to Letcani) and two compression stations, which will provide a transport capacity of 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas per year between Romania and Moldova. Once completed, Moldova will be linked to the European energy system and step away from its near-total dependency on Russia for natural gas.

All manufactured in 2017 and having each worked between 2,000-4,000 hours, the 13 machines were sold through the Hitachi Premium Used programme. This meant that, before delivery to CIS GAZ, the ZX250LC-6s underwent a rigorous inspection process by Utirom to ensure they met the highquality standards of Hitachi Premium Used. The service was carried out using only Hitachi Genuine parts and lubricants, according to Hitachi specifications.

TRATON GROUP AND TUSIMPLE AGREE ON PARTNERSHIP FOR AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS The Traton Group and TuSimple announced that the companies are entering into a global partnership to develop self-driving trucks. The partnership is the first of its kind in Europe, bringing together a global OEM and SAE level 4 (L4) self-driving technology company. Traton and TuSimple have launched a development program to operate the first SAE level 4 autonomous hub-to-hub route between Södertälje to Jönköping in Sweden using Scania trucks. As part of the partnership, Traton has also taken a minority stake in TuSimple.

“The global partnership with TuSimple is another step towards becoming a Global Champion. Innovative future technologies that provide additional value to our customers represent a key part of our strategy,” said Matthias Gründler, Chief Executive Officer at Traton GROUP. SANDVIK PRESENTS THE WORLD’S FIRST 18 TONNE BATTERY LOADER The LH518B from Sandvik has been designed, ground-up, entirely around the loader’s Artisan battery system and electric driveline to best utilize the possibilities that the battery technology brings. It was not enough to replace some components or redesign only a part of the equipment: the designers were compelled to rethink the whole machine. For the customers, when the OEM rethinks the machine, it means that the mine doesn’t need to rethink its whole infrastructure.

In practice, changing the loader battery does not require any cranes or forklifts, thanks to the patented AutoSwap feature.

The new LH518B battery-electric loader comes with an exceptional capacity for its size: its design solutions allow the loader to fit in a 4.5 x 4.5 meter tunnel and carry 18 tonne loads. In addition to an innovative boom and bucket system, the LH518B features independent front and rear drivetrains, allowing high payload capacity while keeping a low overall height.

For superior productivity, the LH518B is equipped with three 2000Nm permanent magnet motors. With no torque converter, transmission or engine to rev up, the loader is fast and agile.

There are no emission restrictions based on installed power to limit the electric motor selection, which enables the use of the most powerful motors available that are suited for the underground conditions.

The LH518B is equipped with AutoSwap, a patented selfswapping system for the Artisan battery pack. Battery

swapping is made fast and easy with minimum amount of manual handling: changing the battery only takes about 6 minutes, and it can be done in a passing bay or old re-muck bay with no overhead cranes or external infrastructure needed.

The brand new AutoConnect feature available for the first time on the LH518B is making swapping even easier and faster by automatically connecting and disconnecting the battery pack to the machine. Aside from unplugging and plugging in the charger, the operator doesn’t need to leave the cabin, which saves minutes on the swapping procedure and decreases effort and risk in the swapping process.

The new 600-gallons-per-minute (2,271.3-L/min) mud recycling system can pair with maxi rigs pumping between 300 gallons per minute and 600 gallons per minute (1,135.6 L/ min and 2,271.3 L/min) on pipeline and other large-diameter installation projects. SUSTAINABLE EMISSION-FREE TRANSPORT

SCANIA LAUNCHES FULLY ELECTRIC TRUCK WITH 250 KM RANGE Scania launches its first fully electric truck. With a range of up to 250km, the Scania electric truck can operate during the whole day and still return safely to its home depot for overnight charging. If there is a need for an extended range, the driver can fast charge the truck over a break or during natural stops in operation. The truck is available with the option of either five, for a total of 165kWh, or nine batteries totalling 300kWh installed capacity.

With the combustion engine removed, space for batteries has been freed. Additional batteries are mounted on the chassis frame. The new electric motor delivers a continuous power of 230kW or approximately 310hp. The motor has two gears to provide high power over a wider speed span, thereby improving comfort.

Scania’s battery electric truck comes equipped with a CCS charging connector to charge from the electric grid. With 130kW DC charging, the five battery packs will be charged in less than 55 minutes and the nine batteries in less than 100 minutes. The truck can also be charged through regenerative braking.

Scania’s new truck is equipped for a fully electric power take off. Instead of connecting auxiliaries to the interface that is usually located on the gearbox or engine, it is instead connected to an electrical connection box, called a DC box

mounted on the chassis. This gives a DC link of up to 60kW PTO for body auxiliaries such as refrigeration systems and hooklifts.The Scania electric truck is available with the L and P-series cab, both of which are designed for urban operations.

The low-floor L-series cab, particularly, is purpose-designed for congested city conditions with unrivalled visibility.

ZHEJIANG DINGLI UNVEILS ELECTRIC BOOM LIFTS Chinese manufacturer Zhejiang Dingli recently launched a full range of lithium powered heavy duty telescopic and articulating boom lifts. The range includes seven models with working heights from 24.3m to 30.3m, a maximum safe working load of up to 454kg and outreach of up to 22.65m.

The range contains five telescopic boom lifts (ETBJ30ERT, ETB28ERT, ETBJ26ERT, ETB26ERT and ETB24ERT) and two articulating boom lifts (EAB28ERT and EAB24ERT).

The new low noise electric boom lifts are equipped with an 80V520Ah high capacity lithium battery unit. This allows Dingli boom lifts to work for up to four full days and is supported by a 90-minute quick charge capability. The lithium battery pack provides environmental solutions as the machines have zero emissions making it a great fit for enterprises working in power grids, oil refineries and residential locations.

VOLVO TRUCKS CELEBRATES TEN YEARS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Volvo Trucks has recently started sales of its toughest ever construction truck – the new Volvo FMX. This is the third version of the Volvo FMX and it features an entirely new cab, higher payloads and innovative safety features. With increased front axle loads of up to 20 tonnes and a 38-tonne bogie, it is built for the most demanding assignments even on very rough terrain. The new Volvo FMX is designed for future electric drivelines and certified for the use of HVO, a fossil-free alternative to diesel.

In 2010, Volvo Trucks introduced the first Volvo FMX – a truck specifically developed for the demanding construction industry. Since then, it has built a reputation as one of the toughest construction trucks on the market, as a result of the introduction of many innovative features. The new Volvo FMX is built on an entirely new cab platform, based on Volvo’s ten years of experience of delivering robust construction trucks.

“The new Volvo FMX is designed to deliver a superior combination of agility and durability. Apart from the sturdy design, the new cab with upright A-pillars provides more space and improved visibility. It’s also easier to get in and out,” explains Helena Alsiö, Vice President for the FM and FMX product line at Volvo Trucks.

With the new Volvo FMX it’s easy to go from inter-axle differential lock to full differential lock and back. Simply by turning the new traction control knob, the driver can tell the truck to automatically synchronize the speed of the wheels before engaging full differential lock. The driver gets clear, instant feedback on the instrument display and can monitor the differential locks in real time.

At speeds below 15 km/h, it’s possible to change the direction of travel of the truck on the go. After shifting the I-Shift gear

selector from drive to reverse, the driver can brake the truck using the accelerator. How fast the truck changes direction is determined by how hard the accelerator is pressed.

The new Volvo FMX features the heaviest addition to Volvo’s chassis range – a 38-tonne bogie that allows for a gross combination weight (GCW) of up to 150 tonnes. In addition, the front suspension has been updated to handle front axle loads of up to 10 tonnes or 20 tonnes for double front axles in very rough terrain. For trucks with a steered tag or pusher axle, the steering angles have been increased, resulting in better manoeuvrability and reduced tyre wear. All these improvements add up to greater productivity and cost efficiencies for construction transport tasks.

The construction version of the leading Volvo I-Shift gearbox allows the Volvo FMX to handle tough and hilly terrain with high levels of productivity and driver comfort.

In 2016, Volvo Trucks introduced I-Shift with crawler gears, which enables the truck to pull away from a standstill with loads of up to 325 tonnes. It also allows truck operators to drive at speeds as low as 0.5 km per hour – a huge help during precision manoeuvring.

The new cab of the new Volvo FMX comes with a number of improvements in driver visibility, including larger windows, a lowered door line and new rear view mirrors. The visibility can be further improved by the addition of a passenger corner camera that gives a complementary view of the side of the truck in the 9-inch side display.

The Electronically Controlled Brake System (EBS), which is a prerequisite for Collision Warning with Emergency Brake and Electronic Stability Control, is now standard on the new Volvo FMX. Volvo Dynamic Steering, with Lane Keeping Assist and Stability Assist, is available as an option..

While the NBT60XL is influenced by its successful forerunner, the NBT60L, it brings a host of other enhancements to set new standards for excellence in the boom truck sector.

NEW GENERATION OF MATERIAL FEEDERS FROM VÖGELE Material feeders form a hub in the transfer of material from trucks to pavers, thus guaranteeing a constant and efficient paving process and high paving quality on large job sites. To increase the user-friendly nature and efficiency of the machines still further, JOSEPH VÖGELE AG has now comprehensively overhauled its former Dash-2 generation: the new MT 3000-3i Standard PowerFeeder and the MT 30003i Offset PowerFeeder with pivoting conveyor are equipped with the efficient and ergonomic Dash-3 machine concept.

This includes, among other things, the ErgoPlus 3 intuitive operating concept, AutoSet Plus automatic functions and the PaveDock Assistant truck communication system.

VÖGELE has also optimized the material handling concept: the new design of receiving hopper, the improved conveyor belt control and the effective belt heating system allow material to be unloaded and conveyed rapidly without loss – whilst simultaneously reducing wear. Maintenance and transport have likewise been simplified: users can now reach setting and cleaning points even more conveniently. The angle of inclination and the receiving hopper have also been optimized for transport on a low-loader.

“We have developed the new generation of PowerFeeders in close collaboration with our customers,” says Bastian Fleischer, product manager at JOSEPH VÖGELE AG. “All the functions are aimed at making job site processes even more efficient, economical and convenient – whilst delivering the same high performance.” Both versions of the material feeder achieve a conveying capacity of up to 1,200 t/h and can accommodate a full truckload of mix within 60 seconds. The MT 3000-3i Offset is also equipped with a conveyor belt which can be pivoted 55°. This provides contractors with a wide variety of potential applications, from parallel feeding two pavers to the so-called InLine Pave method, in which the material feeder, the paver for the binder course and the paver for the surface course work one after the other.

Both the MT 3000-3i Standard and the MT 3000-3i Offset integrate the ErgoPlus 3 operating concept to increase efficiency on the job site. In the process, VÖGELE designed the operator’s console specifically to suit the requirements of material feeder operators, making it as intuitive and

convenient as possible: all the functions are arranged in logical groups, and clear function and status indicators, a high-contrast display and glare-free backlighting also facilitate operation for users. The pivoting seat console, for example, also facilitates particularly ergonomic working with perfect all-round visibility. The AutoSet Plus and PaveDock Assistant assistance systems are also new; VÖGELE previously offered these only for pavers of the Dash-3 generation. With the AutoSet Plus automatic functions, operators just have to push a button to put the material feeder in the transport, repositioning or operating positions - or to save material handling programs and just as easily call up these settings again whenever they are required. This is especially practical on job sites which require frequent repositioning or have similar paving requirements. The optional PaveDock Assistant communication system facilitates material transfer: the material feeder operator can use two signal lights to show the truck driver clearly whether he is to back up, stop or dump mix. If the InLine Pave method is in use, the signal lights also indicate whether material for the surface course or the binder course is required. This allows reliable, loss-free and efficient material transfer.

The MT 3000-3i Standard and Offset material feeders, weighing some 20 and 24 tonnes respectively, are real power packs - yet users can now inspect, maintain and clean these new machines much more easily: VÖGELE has significantly improved access to the maintenance and setting points, as well as to the cleaning zones. For example, the transfer hopper of the MT 3000-3i Offset is hinged, and its larger step makes it easy to clean. The setting points have also been reduced in number and colour-coded to make them more easily identifiable.

Contractors can also transport the new material feeders comparatively quickly and easily: on the one hand, the large angle of inclination of 15° makes it easier to load feeders onto commercial low-loaders, whilst on the other, the receiving hopper of the new models can be raised 25 cm higher than before. This now allows users to deposit material feeders on the so-called goose neck of the low-loader without any issues, significantly reducing transport length..

hile buyers looking for rugged trucks capable of extreme off-road driving are spoilt for choice, when it comes to buses there are hardly any options. Step up Torsus, a Czech bus builder, with its tough buses capable of transporting up to 36 passengers, as well as a range of smaller tough transporters.

Its largest model, the Praetorian, is the world’s first heavy-duty 4×4 off-road bus.

Vakhtang Dzhukashvili, Torsus CEO, tells Plant & Equipment that the company is looking for distribution in the Middle East, and has already seen strong interest from end customers. It has a technology partnership with MAN for engines, suspension and other componentry. Dzhukashvili conceived of the need for an offroad bus while carrying out technical aid projects around the globe, realising how poor infrastructure was in certain areas and that special modifications such as rally suspension were needed to allow commercial vehicles to operate there.

Currently, for remote job-sites in construction, mining and petrochemical sectors, 4x4s are often used to transport workers, which can require a large fleet of vehicles. The Praetorian, with a maximum weight of 13,400kg, seats up to 36 passengers plus a driver, equivalent to around 10 pick-ups. The vehicles are highly customisable, notes Dzhukashvili, allowing the customer to add equipment or increase the level of comfort. “The main concepts are comfort, safety and people transportation. So it’s built all around the people inside, and then to this concept we add the off-road capability.”

That vision was rewarded in May this year when the company was awarded a prestigious Red Dot design award for quality of design.

The jury praised the bus: “The design is aimed at durability, onroad aerodynamics and off-road efficiency and allows for variable configurations ... The vehicle’s design and robust construction reduce operational disturbances and failures in rough territory.”

The Praetorian’s spec sheet shows why Torsus is confident that its vehicle can reach even the most remote work-site. Approach angle is 32° and departure angle is 26°, with 340mm chassis clearance front and rear, and 400mm axle clearance. The body is built with special twisting reduction elements to prevent torsion while driving off-road, while the body exterior has a special protective coating to prevent mechanical damage and protect the body. The base chassis is the MAN TGM. The maximum passenger numbers reflect the vehicle’s relatively short wheel-base of 4,200mm, which has numerous off-road benefits including a better turning radius. Customers can choose from different transmission systems – manual, automated or fully automatic. But the core specs for off-roading don’t change: the vehicles are built with front differential lock, rear differential lock and inter-axle differential lock, and can only be delivered with high off-road wheels.

The buses also have a central tyre inflating system (CTIS), which allows the driver to lower tyre pressure when driving on sand, then re-inflate to go back on-road – with the press of a button, without needing to stop and use an external pump.

Both vehicles have integrated roll-over protection bars, important for mining and industrial sectors to ensure staff safety, and especially for tourism. Features that should prove attractive in the GCC include positive pressure air-conditioning systems, to prevent dust entering the cabin.

And while the Praetorian can be configured for tough work applications like military, civil defence and police, its highly customisable nature means it can also be specified for leisure and tourism, with plush seats and excellent all-round visibility.

Dzhukashvili says that despite the pandemic there has been surprisingly strong demand from the tourism sector, across different segments – outdoor tourism, extreme tourism such as rafting and mountain bikes, and customers looking for a family recreational camper. “We’ve been surprised how much demand there is from the tourism sector for our vehicles, and how well our buses are suited to their demands,” he says.

The second vehicle in the range is the Terrastorm, a smaller van based on the Volkswagen Crafter 4Motion/MAN TGE which seats eight plus a driver. It can also be configured to be an ambulance, delivery vehicle or mining bus.

“We consider ourselves as the best of the best of what is available for the Middle East region when it comes to people transporters and cargo,” Dzhukashvili says. “We don’t see any engineering or technology restrictions that would affect the use of our vehicle [in hot dusty conditions], and our prices are at a reasonable level.”

Buyers have a wide variety of options, including a shell vehicle, and Dzhukashvili says the firm can also cater to specific applications such as ambulance, laboratory or service support vehicle, which need a large cargo space and have to be able to travel to remote areas.

The technology partnership with MAN not only ensures customer confidence in the vehicles’ quality, but also has important benefits when it comes to service, including easier sourcing of spare parts. Service and maintenance is easier, with all documentation available and familiar to technicians who have previously worked with MAN. “I believe that nobody in the world can assemble a vehicle better than MAN. And that’s our great advantage – that MAN know what they’re doing in their field, and we at Torsus know what we’re doing in the field of buses. This cooperation provides a top-quality product.”.

BOBCAT’S MONSTER MACHINE Bobcat recently launched its new generation B730 Backhoe Loader which essentially is a tractor, loader and excavator all rolled into one compact machine. Gaby Rhayem, Regional Director Middle East and Africa at Doosan Bobcat EMEA spoke to Plant & Equipment about the machine and its market.

our years ago, Bobcat decided it wanted to enter the backhoe loader market. Demand for the backhoe loader in the Middle East and Africa region at the time was 48 per cent of the overall compact equipment business. In 2016, Bobcat launched its first-generation backhoe loader and within a year it had captured double digit market share in the Middle East.

Today, the Backhoe Loader (BHL) has become an increasingly important product in Bobcat’s portfolio and the manufacturer has launched its innovative R-Series B730 product despite the COVID-19 situation. Bobcat is continuing to invest heavily in the BHL business and is aiming to be in the top three in the coming months.

Talking about the market’s current situation, Gaby Rhayem, Regional Director Middle East and Africa at Doosan Bobcat EMEA, says: “The pandemic affected all suppliers and manufacturers without discrimination. The size of the industry dropped in the region and some countries are still suffering from the consequences.”

Bobcat, however, stood by its dealers throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East region. This was to maintain support and important communication links in planning the way forward.

Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar are the leading markets in the Middle East and Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco have strong BHL business figures. The market is expecting to close over 1,000 units in the Middle East and Bobcat intends to get a significant chunk of this by the end of 2020.

The new Bobcat R-Series B730 Backhoe Loader Using two decades of engineering know-how and working closely with customers has helped create this new generation backhoe loader machine. The B730 is multifaceted and does the work of three machines. Clients can also configure it to work on their specific application - construction or on roadworks, for utilities or for rentals.

The B730 is a powerful, intuitive, compact machine that comes injected with the signature Bobcat DNA. The powerful 100 horsepower, manual or automatic engine comes with outstanding hydraulic power to work on hard grounds or in extreme hot weather. This product has been field tested for a year and a half in challenging environments and terrains to fine tune its capabilities. The automatic transmission allows the operator to focus on the job with the optional autoshift transmission and the kick down feature which is available in low gears.

This innovative backhoe loader works optimally on a large 160 litre capacity fuel tank which lasts a long time as all

functions work on low consumption. A spacious cabin design and enlarged sliding windows’ allows space for seat rotation.

It has a multifunctional loader lever. The cabin also doubles up as a comfortable office with a USB phone charger, beverage holder and a dashboard with accessible controls and easy-tofind switches.

Its digging depth reach is 11 percent more than the previous version machine, so the backhoe loader doesn’t need to be repositioned during operation. It has 23 per cent greater loading reach and three tonne lifting capacity.

This backhoe loader is tough and built to last. Reinforcements can be seen all around this compact multitasker in the form of the heavy-duty front grill frame, rear light guard, sealed pins and bushings and non-corrosive, hard plastic, fuel tank.

It comes with a standard two-year or 2,000 operating hours warranty, whichever comes first..

‫تقع مدينة ينبع على بعد حوالي ‪ 320‬كم من جدة في المنطقة الغربية من المملكة‬ ‫العربية السعودية‪ .‬يقام المشروع على مساحة إجمالية تبلغ حوالي ‪ 40814‬متر‬ ‫مربع بحي الفهد بمدينة ينبع الصناعية‪.‬‬

‫سيتم االنتهاء من بناء المشروع الذي تبلغ تكلفته ‪ 336‬مليون دوالر في غضون أربع‬ ‫سنوات‪ .‬يتم بناء المبنى الرئيسي على مساحة ‪ 94.400‬متر مربع‪ ،‬ويتكون من طابق‬ ‫أرضي وستة طوابق‪ .‬يشمل المشروع بشكل رئيسي ‪ 700‬سرير موزعة في أجنحة‬ ‫اإلدخال في تخصصات مختلفة للرجال والنساء‪ ،‬و‪ 25‬غرفة للوالدة‪ ،‬وغرفتي عمليات‪،‬‬ ‫وقسما لألشعة‬ ‫أيضا ً‬ ‫ووحدة متكاملة للحوادث والطوارئ‪ .‬يضم المستشفى ً‬ ‫جناحا للعزل ً‬ ‫به ثالث أجهزة لألشعة السينية‪ ،‬وجهازي للتصوير المقطعي‪ ،‬وجهاز التصوير بالرنين‬ ‫المغناطيسي‪ ،‬وأجهزة الموجات فوق الصوتية األخرى‪ .‬تم تصميم المستشفى لغرض تلبية‬ ‫المتطلبات المستقبلية‪ ،‬ويحتوي على صيدلية‪ ،‬ومختبرات طبية‪ ،‬ووحدة رعاية لألطفال‪،‬‬ ‫وغرفة للعمليات الصغيرة‪ ،‬ووحدات العالج الطبيعي والعالج الكيميائي‪ .‬يضم المشروع‬ ‫مكاتب لإلدارة‪ ،‬ومبنى خدمات‪ ،‬ومستودعات طبية‪ ،‬ومولدات كهربائية إضافية‪ ،‬وأجهزة‬ ‫لتحلية مياه الشرب‪.‬‬

‫تخطط شركة ترينتي للطاقة لبناء مصنع لتكرير النفط الخام بقيمة ‪ 500‬مليون‬ ‫دوالر في بالوش في جنوب السودان‪ ،‬قامت الشركة بتحديد األراضي وتأمينها‬ ‫باإلضافة إلى دراسة الجدوى والتصاميم الخاصة بالمصفاة‪ .‬كما أشركت تشيميكس‬ ‫جلوبال‪ ،‬وهي شركة مشاريع هندسة ومشتريات وتشييد إوادارة ‪EPC/EPCM‬‬ ‫كاملة الخدمات مقرها أمريكا تقدم تجربة خدمة بوتيك لمصافي التكرير المعيارية‬ ‫والتقليدية ومشاريع بناء الطاقة كمدير مشروع لهذا المشروع‪.‬‬ ‫أيضا من الحصول على تمويل لألعمال التحضيرية‬ ‫تقترب شركة ترينتي للطاقة ً‬ ‫للمشروع من أفريكسيمبانك‪ ،‬مما سيساعد في أعمال الهندسة والتصميم للمنشأة‪.‬‬

‫أطلقت شركة المنصور للتنمية مشروعها ترو في منطقة شرق القاهرة بمدينة نصر‬ ‫باستثمار قيمته ‪ 700‬مليون جنيه‪ .‬المشروع الذي يمثل أحدث تطوير عقاري‬ ‫للشركة هو مشروع خدمات متكامل يمتد على أكثر من ‪ 9،900‬متر مربع‪.‬‬ ‫يتكون ترو من طابق أرضي سيتم تطويره إلى مركز تجاري ومبنى سكني مكون‬ ‫بعا و‬ ‫من ‪ 11‬طابقًا يضم وحدات من مساحات مختلفة تتراوح ما بين ‪ً 75‬ا‬ ‫متر مر ً‬ ‫بعا‪ .‬ستبدأ الشركة أعمال البناء في المشروع في عام ‪ 2021‬على أن‬ ‫‪ً 120‬ا‬ ‫متر مر ً‬ ‫يتم التطوير على ست مراحل‪ .‬في نهاية البناء سيضم المشروع ما مجموعه ‪692‬‬ ‫وحدة سكنية و ‪ 136‬محل تجاري‪.‬‬ ‫يضم المشروع عدد كبير من الخدمات منها مول إنفينيتي الذي سيكون األول من‬ ‫نوعه بمدينة نصر‪ ،‬يأتي ذلك باإلضافة إلى حديقة على السطح تمتد على مساحة‬ ‫‪ 6400‬متر مربع ومنطقة تعليمية لألطفال ومنطقة للشواء ونادي رياضي وحضانة‬ ‫ومساحة مناظر طبيعية تبلغ ‪ 2400‬متر مربع‪.‬‬

‫أيضا شركة تابعة لصندوق‬ ‫بموجب الصفقة‪ ،‬أقامت بحري وسالك ‪ -‬وهي ً‬ ‫كيانا مشترًكا‪ :‬شركة الحبوب الوطنية‪ .‬وستقوم الشركة ببناء‬ ‫االستثمارات العامة ‪ً -‬‬ ‫وتشغيل محطة بقيمة ‪ 110‬ماليين دوالر (‪ 403.7‬درهم) في ميناء ينبع التجاري‬ ‫في المملكة العربية السعودية‪.‬‬ ‫سيتم تعيين مقاول خالل النصف الثاني من هذا العام ومن المتوقع أن يبدأ تشغيل‬ ‫المحطة بحلول الربع الثاني من عام ‪ .2021‬وتغطي المحطة مساحة ‪313000‬‬ ‫مبدئيا قادرة على‬ ‫متر مربع‪ ،‬وستبلغ سعتها االستيعابية ‪ 280‬ألف طن وستكون‬ ‫ً‬ ‫سنويا‪ ،‬مع زيادة القدرة على المعالجة إلى ‪5‬‬ ‫معالجة ‪ 3‬ماليين طن من الحبوب ً‬ ‫ماليين طن بنهاية المشروع‪ .‬سيتم تمويل المشروع من خالل مزيج من التدفق‬ ‫النقدي للشركة والتمويل المصرفي‪ .‬وسيشرف المشروع على تجارة وتخزين الحبوب‬ ‫من منطقة البحر األسود‪ ،‬وأمريكا الجنوبية‪ ،‬والبحر األحمر‪ ،‬وسيساعد في توفير‬ ‫المنتجات الغذائية األساسية واستقرار األسعار في المملكة‪.‬‬

‫‪ 480‬مليون دوالر سيتم تمويلها كلها من خالل النقد المتولد داخل‪ ،‬وبينما‬ ‫لم يتم اإلعالن عن هيكل ملكية المشروع فقد أفيد سابقًا أن شركة أبو قير‬ ‫لألسمدة ستمتلك ‪ ٪25‬بينما ستمتلك شركة حلوان لألسمدة ‪ ٪25‬واألهلي‬ ‫كابيتال ‪ .٪50‬لم يتم بعد تحديد الجدول الزمني للمشروع على الرغم من‬ ‫تطور‬ ‫ًا‬ ‫أنه من المتوقع أال تقل مدته عن ‪ 5-4‬سنوات‪ .‬يرى نعيم لألبحاث‬ ‫إيجابيا على المدى الطويل ألسمدة أبو قير ال سيما بالنظر إلى ميزة أنه‬ ‫ً‬ ‫مصدر للمواد األولية للغاز الطبيعي بسعر‬ ‫ًا‬ ‫من المحتمل أن يكون المصنع‬ ‫أقل من ‪ 4.5‬دوالر‪/‬مليون وحدة ح اررية بريطانية‪.‬‬
