ALTAAQA PARTNERS WITH AFC ENERGY ON FUEL CELL GENSETS Altaaqa and AFC Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will bring together the two companies’ extensive experience to support the transition of the region’s power generation industry to zero emission solutions using AFC Energy’s hydrogen fuel cell technology. Altaaqa is a Zahid Group company that has two decades of experience in generating turnkey power and water solutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally. Altaaqa owns and operates one of the world’s largest mobile power modules rental fleets, with a total capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW). The company provides temporary and off-grid power solutions to oil & gas, power utilities, mining, military, manufacturing, data centers, construction and government services sectors. The MoU forms the basis of a long-term partnership which will cover the region, with the aim of gaining market leadership for reliable and safe, “hydrogen-to-power” solutions for various industry segments and applications. This agreement solidifies Altaaqa’s and Zahid Group’s commitment to leading the way in the transition to sustainable fuels by being a leading participant in the development of the Kingdom’s hydrogen economy and ecosystem. This commitment further aligns the Zahid Group’s tireless efforts with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objective of reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. The agreement comes shortly after His
Royal Highness Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud unveiled the Saudi Green Initiative and the Green Middle East Initiative that will significantly contribute to achieving global targets in confronting climate change. The Saudi Green Initiative is targeting a 60% reduction in the region’s carbon emissions. The signing ceremony also provided an opportunity to highlight the beneficial role that sport can play in highlighting the global climate emergency. The agreement was signed at Extreme E’s inaugural X Prix – the Desert X Prix - held in AlUla, Saudi Arabia. REVITALISED
EUROTEC CELEBRATES LANDMARK PLANT DELIVERY INTO THE UAE Lintec & Linnhoff has revitalised its operations in the Middle East in recent years, with new distributor partners and a new local leadership team offering customers a vastly improved sales and service experience. The company’s investment in the region has been steadily paying dividends, the latest example of which is a first delivery of a Eurotec 4ECO120T model in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The sale is also notable because the plant is the largest model in the popular ECO range, underlining the ongoing high demand for concrete in the Middle East. The UAE is home to other high capacity units from Lintec & Linnhoff, including a powerful Eurotec MZ6750Ti model, a stationery concrete batching plant with an impressive 200m3/hr output. The Eurotec 4ECO120T model is an ideal design for the Middle East, with its high-capacity output, galvanised steel structures, and reliable componentry from European brands. Design features include a Europe-built Twin-Shaft Mixer and cumulative aggregate weighing & batching sequence which help the unit achieve a rated capacity output of 120m3 of concrete per hour with 3m3 output per batch. The plant is the flagship of the Eurotec ECO series, which offers affordable simple and functional concrete production solutions and are ideal for customers requiring an economical batching plant that can simultaneously deliver a large quantity of high-quality concrete. All its weighing systems are metered via load cells and managed through Eurotec’s unique, proprietary ECS process control system software which runs on a user-friendly Windows OS for fully automatic operations.
“We continue to see growing demand for building materials across the Middle East, so the addition of the Eurotec 4ECO120T model will help the customer increase its capacity,” said Tony Chakra, Area Sales Manager for Lintec & Linnhoff (Middle East and North Africa). “This new Eurotec installation is the first of its type in the UAE and will give the company a competitive advantage through its high-volume efficient production. As Abu Dhabi’s commercial sector continues to grow the customer is now well-positioned to play an important part in driving the ongoing success of the UAE.” Lintec & Linnhoff has a long history in the UAE stretching back decades and an established fleet of around 20 Lintec, Linnhoff and Eurotec asphalt and concrete plants spread across several customers. With new regional leadership and a revitalised sales organisation, the company is ready to kickstart a new era in its local history..

POWER SOLUTION
GENERATORS WITH JOHN DEERE INDUSTRIAL ENGINES SELECTED FOR TANTORA PROJECT IN SAUDI ARABIA When the high-profile “Winter at Tantora Festival” in Saudi Arabia put out a call for a power supplier, power expert Ghaddar Machinery Co. (Ghaddar) from Lebanon was ready, willing, and able to meet the challenge. In a record time of three weeks, the company manufactured, delivered, and installed a 19.7mVA power solution for this annual threemonth event, held in the old town of Al-Ula, Medina, in northwestern Saudi Arabia. The Tantora project included 33 generators with John Deere industrial engines providing a total capacity of 7.0mVA. It was exactly what was needed for this colorful mix of concerts, sporting events, art installations, and restaurants - all kicked off by a breathtaking opening ceremony with light shows and music. Not so surprising from a company that is one of the world’s leading suppliers of diesel and gas generator sets and solar power. And with facilities in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, Ghaddar was in the perfect position to meet the special needs of the event. Ghaddar makes ready-to-run yet highly customizable power solutions between 4 and 4,000 kVA for demanding and remote applications. Since 2019, its portfolio has included 30- to
320kVA generator sets powered with John Deere industrial engines, as well as complete John Deere–powered power packs for OEMs. The engines and spare parts are directly sourced from John Deere Power Systems. Ghaddar maintains a large stock of industrial engines and genuine John Deere spare parts, which operate, fit, and function perfectly since the design and specifications are controlled by John Deere. Using genuine John Deere spare parts also helps increase the service life of the engines, keeping them as reliable as the day they were purchased..

BYRNE EQUIPMENT RENTAL PILOTED THE FIRST IPAF TRAINING IN THE MIDDLE EAST Byrne Equipment Rental recently carried out the first IPAF Powered Access License (PAL) card training in the Middle East. Based on a new module from IPAF, the training focused on the safe operation of all mast climbers, and not limited to just one OEM. This followed on from the company’s successful training at carrying out the first ever IPAF Hoist training in the Middle East which took place at the beginning of this year. Following the COVID-19 guidelines, the training took place at Byrne’s head office in Dubai Industrial City. The sessions were led by Byrne’s Regional Manager, Simon Hickson. Hickson delivered training that was well balanced with a mix between theory and practice and covered in depth the operational procedures for all mast climbers including health and safety aspects, hazards and how to lead by example on site.

ACQUIRING ASSETS ONLINE From 2019, the global used heavy equipment online market was on a growth trajectory. Then 2020 happened. Kuwaiti company, Masaha Global also launched its online auction arm for used machines - Q8 Auctions - in February 2020.

ranching out into the online auction market was already on the cards for Masaha Global before the pandemic hit last year. Q8 Auctions was launched in February 2020 almost around the same time as widespread closures began around the world. Lots of original equipment manufacturers had to cut down on production volumes for the health and safety of their employees. Global supply chains were also impacted consequently. All of this led to a spike in the demand for readily available and affordable used machines. Since every business process was disrupted and the move to online was overnight, the timing of the launch of Q8 Auctions couldn’t be better. Regionally, too, heavy equipment online auctions were also growing in popularity and since Kuwait didn’t have any, Q8 Auctions lost no time in establishing themselves as one of the first used equipment and machinery online auction companies in the country and held their first auction in its opening month. They managed to receive 300 plus equipment listings. “We officially started operating in February last year, in the heavy equipment and machinery segment as it is the most lucrative category,” says Fahed Blan, Auctions Manager, Kuwait Company for Auctions Management. The company’s second online auction was held on June 29 and 30 last month. Construction machinery and heavy equipment have the most traction with real market demand as Kuwait’s projects and future development plans are resurrected. Plus, the curated high-quality machines for sale on the auction site means buyers also gain a top resale value asset. Joining hands with renowned auctioneers Ritchie Bros. was an astute business call taken by Q8 Auctions. As per the agreement, Q8 Auctions handles operations, sales and after sales in Kuwait. Ritchie Bros. is providing their timed auction platform to Q8 Auctions to conduct their auction sales. The timed auction platform is a superlative channel which comes

with an impeccable performance history as all of Ritchie Bros.’ in-house auctions are held on it. Ritchie Bros. is one of the top global online auction companies for the heavy equipment and machinery market catering to a wide range of industries. Their expansive customer base gives them another unique opportunity of analysing the user experience and behaviour to extract data which will guide their partners and equipment owners into running their businesses more successfully. Ritchie Bros. have recently acquired tech data firm Rouse. This acquisition will enable them to create tailored insights for their global customer base. Q8 Auctions’ access to its most vital resource, Masaha Global’s existing network of regional buyers and sellers, is a handsome starting point to build upon. This network of clients and customers are key to the success of Q8’s future auctions and subsequent organic growth.
How it works Q8 Auctions provides interested bidders with details of the items on sale. Customers can book viewing slots to inspect the machinery in person. If they want to buy the item, they need to register with Q8 Auctions and submit the requisite documents which will be reviewed as per the terms and conditions of the auction. After approval, the potential buyer then receives the catalogue from Q8 Auctions and is ready to place their bid online. The recently held auction on June 29 and 30 between Ritchie Bros. and Q8 Auctions received 1,257 registered bidders that were a mix of local and international buyers. There were over 17 consignors participating and 300 plus items listed for sale. Q8 Auctions sees a huge potential for these numbers to continue increasing in its future auctions which are being planned for the months of September and December 2021..

GROWING PRESENCE Customer confidence in Zoomlion machines is growing, says Zoomlion Gulf GM Flander Fan, with orders for larger tonnage machines across its range.

oomlion is seeing increasing sales of equipment in the Middle East as the brand adds new products to its line-up in the region, including aerial work platforms and earthmoving machinery. Notably, the brand is scaling up its footprint in the region, having increased its staff numbers in the Middle East from around 40-50 last year to nearly 80, Flander Fan, Zoomlion Gulf GM, tells Plant & Equipment. “The Middle East is one of our core strategic markets and we are very confident for these markets, and that is why we are adding to our sales and service capabilities,” says Fan, adding that confidence is growing as the firm sees more and more repeat customers, while recognition of the value proposition of the Zoomlion products and brand continues to steadily grow. Zoomlion rejigged its approach to the Middle East around 2014, establishing a stable dealer network as well as reinforcing its spare parts holding and technical support via its regional headquarters in Dubai. The UAE market it services directly. That approach continues to yield results, with customers buying an ever-wider range of machines, including larger tonnage machines in areas such as crawler cranes. With a solid foundation across key segments established, the brand is also launching new product ranges. Rental

companies will be a significant focus, and the firm has already concluded a number of large deals. Though overall market conditions are challenging, Zoomlion’s machines give buyers more choice, especially since their products are extremely competitively priced, particularly when compared with European brands, says Fan. The company has introduced its range of AWPs, including telescoping boom lifts, articulating boom lifts and DC series scissor lifts, which comply with CE/ANSI standards. That includes the new ZT42J, a telescopic boom lift with maximum platform height of 42m and horizontal outreach of 25m, 4WD drive mode and three steering modes: four wheels, front wheel and crab. It has a platform capacity of 300/454kg (unrestricted/restricted), and gross weight is 21,900kg. The manufacturer has also launched earthmoving equipment, including crawler excavators and bulldozers, and in recent months has sold 70-80 units, says Javel Liu, Regional Director of Earth Moving Middle East & Africa at Zoomlion. That includes machines such as the ZE360E, a 34.3 tonne crawler excavator with Cummins engine and Kawasaki hydraulic system. Features include an updated electrical control system to match the engine output precisely with the

power demands of the hydraulic pump, boosting efficiency, fuel consumption and improving operator control. Meanwhile, high quality hydraulic components and the robust hydraulic system ensure strong digging force, allowing the machine to perform arduous earthwork tasks; equipped with a large bucket, the machine is highly productive. Later this year Zoomlion will launch the ZE370E, a 34.6-tonne operating weight machine powered by a Cummins 6LTAA8.9 engine, offering rated power of 241kW @ 2,000rpm from the 8.9-litre Euro 2 engine. Standard capacity bucket is 1.65m3, with 219kN of bucket digging force. The smaller ZE215 hydraulic excavator is also available.
In addition, the bulldozer range features the ZD220-3/6, with operating weight of 23,600kg and length of 5.46m (without ripper). Its straight tilt blade has a capacity of 6.4m3, and it is powered by a Cummins engine with rated power of 175kW (235Hp). The wider bulldozer range features smaller and larger machines, as well as a number of different blade types and operating configurations. The new machines launched in international markets, including the Middle East, have been thoroughly tested in the Chinese domestic market, adds Liu.
Landmark projects Seeing its equipment active on landmark projects is an important mark of success for any brand. Zoomlion has been involved in a number of major projects across the region and has concluded sales contracts with some of the region’s most demanding customers. That includes a number of rough terrain cranes sold to ADNOC, the UAE state oil company, over the past 12 months.
Zoomlion tower cranes have been used for the construction of the Lusail National Stadium in Qatar.
18
In Qatar, eight Zoomlion TC8039-25 saddle jib cranes have been used for construction of the roof on the stadium in Lusail, the main stadium for the 2022 World Cup. The cranes have been on-site since 2017 and were used for the key job of stretching a 2,300-tonne main cable-net 66m above the ground, which was docked to the steel structure. In the wider Middle East, the brand has also seen success. In Turkey, two L760-50 luffing jib tower cranes are in use on the
MIDDLE EAST NEWS - COVER STORY
Istanbul International Financial Centre. The luffing jib cranes can reach a height of 51.45m unsupported, maximum reach is 60m, and maximum load is 50 tonnes, or 11 tonnes at jib end. In the Middle East, Zoomlion has sold a large amount of concrete equipment, including truck-mounted booms, placing booms and transit mixers in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, according to Mark Yang, Zoomlion Middle East Regional Director for Concrete Machinery. It has increased international staff to help handle deals in the local markets. “Our sales have increased by 17% over the past year, so we are very optimistic about the future,” he says. Crawler cranes are another segment with increased market demand, with large units sold in the Gulf, Egypt and Turkey. “The demand is not only for smaller capacity crawler cranes under 100 tonnes from Zoomlion, but for larger and larger machines.” That includes a 260-tonne crawler sold to a rental company, a 350-tonne CC unit sold to a contracting company in Egypt, two 800-tonne crawler cranes in Turkey, and 1,250-tonne and 2,000-tonne crawler cranes to the largest rental company in Turkey. For all-terrain cranes, Zoomlion has also been delivering 150and 230-tonne machines. “This year I believe we will make a breakthrough for the high-capacity all-terrain cranes,” says Fan. Likewise, there is demand for the full variety of truck cranes. Customers buying larger capacity cranes typically start by buying smaller capacity machines, moving on to bigger
ones once they are assured of the quality and reliability of the Zoomlion products in the field. This comes as economic disruptions are creating challenges. Prices of raw material, especially steel, have risen sharply, and there are also massive logistics challenges. But on this matter, all companies are facing similar problems, says Fan. In addition, the brand is reallocating resources from the domestic market – where there is sufficient stock – to meet the demand of international customers. Overall, despite challenging circumstances. Zoomlion continues to report strong sales growth. In April this year, it reported its highest ever annual revenue – $10.1bn (65.1bn yuan) in 2020, up more than 50% year-on-year..
Rough terrain cranes are one area of the market where Zoomlion is seeing greater demand from customers.

MIDDLE EAST NEWS - TOWER CRANES
W
ith tower cranes the pulse of any large construction site, Middle East markets have taken a hit due to the pandemic and the resulting economic slowdown, leading to more supply than demand. “This leads to lower rates and aggressive competition. After a unique year with the pandemic, it is rumoured that the GCC will look to inject significant investments to help the economy recover. If that is the case, it will be much needed,” says Nawar Al Zahlawi, Business Development Manager at NFT Specialized in Tower Cranes LLC. The largest crane rental company in the Middle East, NFT also has a large global footprint, with operations in Europe and the Far East – and that geographical diversification helps. “In Europe, our business is on a smaller scale. However, demand is unexpectedly stable. Manufacturers had reduced workforce and production capabilities because of the pandemic, so [time for] deliveries are quite long and output isn’t at the required level. Fortunately, NFT purchases equipment ahead of time and stocks them in our yard in Belgium to be able to have an advantage with quick delivery,” says Al Zahlawi. With NFT the exclusive GCC Potain distributor, Manitowoc has released a number of new models in recent months, including a new self-erection model in the very successful IGO T line, and a new topless crane, the MDT 489. It has a free standing height of 80m and is available in two variants – the M20, with maximum lift weight of 20 tonnes, and the M25 (25 tonnes). Additionally, “In our UK operations, we are quite pleased to have a couple of hydraulic luffers in the Potain range which offer reduced out-of-service radii. The MRH 175 is a staple in our offering over there, and MRH 125 allows us to approach projects we could not before,” says Al Zahlawi. Despite slow market conditions, plenty of landmark projects are underway, many requiring specialist solutions. Major NFT projects include a waste-to-energy plant in Dubai, a new terminal building in Bangladesh, a huge infra project in Kuwait and the Hinckley power station in the UK, the largest in Europe. In northern France, NFT has

supplied 16 travelling 32-tonne luffing Potain MR 608 tower cranes to help with construction of 71 gravity concrete bases to be cast in the sea to support the installation of wind farms. “At the NFT head office, our technical department and commercial team always work with the client to study their drawings and recommend the ideal tower crane solution from a safety perspective and efficiency, and support them with the foundation design,” explains Al Zahlawi. “Clients are not always aware of the maximum jib available, which sometimes gives them the assumption that they need more cranes onsite, which means more foundation, more generator, more accessories and more costs overall.”
MEHC currently operates a 250-strong tower crane fleet, as well as offering hoists, heavy equipment, spare parts and other associated services, including operator familairisation training, says Eamonn Glover, MEHC Managing Director. Over the years, MEHC has invested heavily in upgrading the capacity and technology of its tower crane fleet, which today consists of Liebherr cranes, in addition to Potain, Terex Comedil and Zoomlion. The fleet ranges from 6 to 40 tonnes capacity, while Liebherr’s Litronic crane management system is the centrepiece for precise and reliable operation, says Glover.
Quality solution
“The system empowers the operator to efficiently control the crane and to optimise handling. Crane operators need to stay informed about the crane’s and site’s operating parameters to perform their duty safely and efficiently. The EMS [electronic monitoring system] helps keep an overview of all relevant aspects on site even in difficult conditions, ensuring the tower crane works at the limit of its lifting capacity for the shortest time,” he explains.
Founded in 1991 by three brothers from the entrepreneurial Chamamit family, Modern Emirates Heavy Cranes LLC (MEHC) started as a crane trading company before branching out into leasing, servicing, design and complex project implementation.
The system also enables up to 20% additional power for heavy loads at the press of a button while automatically reducing the permissible speed under this maximum load mode to avoid mishandling and ensure sound crane operation.
One example is using cranes on a travelling base, to cover a larger area with fewer cranes. Another is using internal climbing tower cranes on high-rise projects, rather than the traditional external cranes with bracings – this saves money on masts, frames and tie-ins, as well as time.

MIDDLE EAST NEWS - TOWER CRANES
“A lot of time can be spent meeting and working through clients’ drawings to find the best lifting solutions and positions. Most jobs are quoted on paperwork that only includes overall heights and weights. The position of the cranes in light of the project circulation and construction program in addition to several other aspects of the construction site will have a big impact on overall costs.” With cranes on many projects powered by portable gensets rather than mains power, genset size and the amount of diesel are additional cost considerations as well. One option is to use larger generators to provide power to multiple infrastructure, whether tower cranes or site offices, but Glover’s strong preference is to use a single genset to power each tower crane, for redundancy and to avoid a situation where a single genset failure affects multiple assets and site productivity, as well as a crane’s electronics being damaged by a surge or outage. Safety is MEHC’s top priority, with all operations carried out in accordance with the BS 7121-5:2019 code of practice for the safe use of tower cranes and in line with local legislation, says Glover. The company provides highly trained operators who are able to respond appropriately to any scenario. Perhaps the most important consideration is the site plan and the crane location. All factors that affect safe operation must be taken into account – such as crane foundations, whether it needs tie supports to the structure or is on a freestanding configuration. A crane must also be able to weathervane freely, without obstruction, in line with manufacturer recommendations.
The most popular models are saddle jib cranes in a variable range of heights and jib configurations, “making them extremely versatile for the majority of building projects”. They can be supplied on three types of fixings: foundation anchors, generally embedded into the raft or isolated foundations; static undercarriages; or, on specific occasions, travelling undercarriage. With the market especially price-conscious, assisting companies at tender stage can result in more cost-effective plans. “Hiring a tower crane is about much more than obtaining a simple quote,” says Glover. “The type of tower crane you hire can have a significant impact on build time and budgets, therefore a little extra knowledge can save construction teams money and time. We always recommend our clients to involve us early-on to assist them with the most efficient project planning.” Contractors need to balance the extra costs of additional units versus the potential costs of a project delay if there isn’t sufficient lift capacity. One project on which the client was shown the need to install an additional crane was finished several months ahead of schedule – this would likely not have been possible without the appropriate tower crane configuration, believes Glover.
All MEHC equipment is serviced, maintained and routinely assessed by its maintenance team on a monthly basis to ensure compliance, and all equipment placed on rental is in addition inspected by a third-party accredited organisation “in conjunction with the appropriate legislation” prior to handing the tower crane or hoist over to the client, states Glover. The appropriate certificates and records are held within the operations department and updated as required. Electronic anti-collision systems may be required on projects with overlapping work areas for tower cranes - MEHC uses systems from AMCS technologies, a French supplier. They perform real-time, 3D calculations to estimate distances between different crane elements and their movement speeds, with adjustable safety coverage for all machine parts including jib, counter jib, mast, tower head, tie bars and hoist rope, explains Glover. “The system is designed to ensure the safe execution of orders to manage machines in interference, by slowing down or completely immobilising a crane at a pre-set distance from the obstacle. The safe system of work for a tower crane should not rely on the use of electronic aids as the sole means of avoiding collisions. They should be used as a secondary aid to assist the crane operator and not intended as a substitute for the sound judgement of the crane operator. Rather, they are designed to provide as many indications as possible, to enable the operator to adjust his behaviour in accordance with the situation or hazard encountered.”

MIDDLE EAST NEWS - TOWER CRANES
Specialist manufacturer Based in Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, tower crane manufacturer ENG Cranes produces a standard range of tower cranes, alongside customised cranes. “We like to advertise ourselves as tailors in this business, because most of the cranes we make are modified or are requests from our customers, and then of course become standard in the catalogue,” says Export Manager Massimo De Lazzero. The standard range features flat-top and saddle jib cranes, as well as hydraulic derricks, stiff-leg derricks and hydraulic luffers. “With our standard range we can cover most requests from a job-site, but what we have seen in the last years is that a lot of customers are looking for a customised crane to fit to a special need, and are looking for someone to build them such a crane,” explains De Lazzero, noting that it’s not easy for larger manufacturers to divert from their standard production lines. “We are a relatively small company, so for us it’s easier. Over the past years, we have been approached by a number of customers saying, ‘We want a crane made in this way’ or ‘We have this special need, can you design a crane for us?’ And when it is technically possible, we always say yes.” Most clients seeking a customized crane are in the construction sector, and ENG Cranes has sold its cranes worldwide – to Australia, North America, Europe, Middle East and other
markets as well. Their output is typically around 30-40 cranes per year. Recently, that output included two EDKH205 30 tonne hydraulic derrick cranes which were sold to NFT Specialized in Tower Cranes (the rental company plans to initially deploy them in its fleet in Hong Kong). These can be used on projects to dismantle the main tower crane, but can also be installed on a tower project and used without counterweights. “Their slewing radius is really small, so they can be used on a tight site where even a standard luffing job crane cannot be used because of oversailing restrictions.” The standard hydraulic derrick crane range has three models, from the EDKH 125 (maximum load 18 tonnes) to the EDKH 205 (maximum jib length of 41m and maximum lift weight of 30 tonnes, max load at tip 2.3 tonnes). Their derrick EDKH and Hydraulic luffers EDL series have the smallest counter-jib in the crane market, meaning they can be put to use even on extremely tight sites, he says. The EDL Series hybrid cranes resemble luffing jib cranes without a significant counterjib, with the counterweight stacked on frame behind the cabin. They can operate in flat mode, like a flat-top, or in luffing mode. The EDL 210 is the largest model, with a 56.3m jib length and maximum load of 12 tonnes (max load at max jib length is around 2.43 tonnes). Completing the catalogue range, ENG Cranes also produces self-erecting cranes, the ESH models from 27 metres to 40 metres, with 4 tonnes of max load.
ENG Cranes produces a standard range of cranes along with customised cranes according to customer request.
24
The normal production cycle for ENG Cranes is around 8-16 weeks and cranes are built according to all relevant European standards. “Our philosophy is to design the crane - especially with regards to the electronics - as simply as possible. We have seen that around the world there is a lack of skilled technicians, so we want the cranes to be as simple to service as possible,” says De Lazzero. Their cranes also can be repaired using generic common spare parts available all around the world, he added..

CUSTOMIZATION
MOLDTECH PARTICIPATES IN MOMBASA RING ROAD PROJECT Moldtech came up with a customized design, which included a cambered casting bed and special arrangement to make the mould compatible with the post tensioning operations. The total supply for these items included 400m of casting bed and 200m of mould sides. This allows the client to demould and use the sides again while the previous casted girders complete their curing process on the casting bed before their removal to the stockyard. The amount of infrastructure projects in Africa is on the rise, especially those related with road construction. Moldtech already carried out a number of projects in West African countries but this time was selected to participate in a project related to the Mombasa ring road in Kenya.
Apart from the Aastho girders moulds, the client also requested so-called plank moulds which fabricate pre-stressed hollow core deck slabs. The hollow core is achieved by inserting void formers for which Moldtech designed a special tooling to compensate the uplift force and keep these formers in place.
This project included the construction of motorway bridges using Aastho IV and Aastho VI pre-casted and post-tensioned girders. The Aasho IV girders have a length of approximately 30m and weigh around 48 tons whereas the Aastho VI come in a length of approximately 40m and a weight of 81 tons.
A total of 130m of casting bed was delivered together with 8 hinged mould sides with height of 60cm and a length of 14.7m. The stressing head has a capacity of 435 tons and includes slackening cylinders for the de-tensioning of the strands prior to cutting them..

ajih Eit is responsible for CIFA’s concrete equipment in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. When it comes to the business outlook, markets across the MEA region are currently a mixed bag, but there are still some deals being done, says Eit: recently the firm won a contract in Burkina Faso to supply 48m and 55m boom pumps, the largest in use in West Africa. The deal also included mixers and other equipment.
carbon fibre Carbotech range is in demand in Europe and other markets with stricter road regulations).
“There are still some specific landmark projects going on and still moving, and we have the capability to close important deals [for markets in Africa] through our branch office in Dubai,” he explains.
The range also has a number of different boom folding configurations. The ZR-type is suitable for the boom opening inside the buildings and for concrete pouring near the truck pump, available with smaller booms; the mid-range Z-type has quick opening operations for concrete pouring near and far from the truck pump; and the RZ-type provides maximum flexibility by combining R+Z solutions, ideal for five-six section booms.
CIFA produces the full line of equipment, including mixers, pumps, batching plants, placing booms and concrete pipes. It has the widest range of concrete equipment in the market produced under a single brand, says Eit, with dedicated products available for every region. CIFA’s main series of truck-mounted concrete pumps are the Steeltech, with dedicated models for the MEA region including pump trucks with 36m, 42m, 48m and 55m booms, plus the newer 61m boom launched in late 2019. (CIFA’s patented
The Steeltech range is available with either open or closed loop hydraulic circuits, though open loop is more suitable for MEA markets, says Eit – it’s lower pressure, uses fewer electronics and is easier to maintain and service, as well as more robust in high temperatures.
When it comes to operation, the pumps feature efficient control systems and the standard machine management system can be upgraded to provide additional control features, including diagnostics, as well as remote control. The system can also provide data on the pump’s operation, such as flow. The trucks have in-built safety systems, for example requiring

that outriggers must be fully extended for full boom operation – if they are only partially extended on one side, the boom cannot be operated on that side. The optional Smartronic machine management system can actively calculate in real time the max boom extension, based on outrigger positioning. Customers vary across markets. In the Middle East, 90% are classical ready-mix companies, plus some contractors and rental companies. In Tunisia and Morocco, the trend is also towards ready-mix companies. Elsewhere in Africa, however, contractors typically do the concrete in-house, says Eit – they may have batching plants, booms and mixers. Ready-mix suppliers tend to have high concrete expertise and want to reduce machinery costs as much as possible. They may also look at rental options if the market is slow. In the life cycle of a pump, the biggest factor is maintenance – true for all concrete equipment.
a pour can spell disaster, given that the transit mixers will already be on-site or en route. When it comes to project type and market demand, Eit says it’s important to note that other than in North Africa, truck-mounted pumps are not widely used, with stationary pumps still preferred. “In many markets, there is still not the culture of the truck-mounted pump, there is the culture of the stationary pump – this means also a lot of concrete pipe and a small placing boom for the distribution of the concrete. Meanwhile, in markets in MENA the truck pump technology is very well established.” The chief advantage of a truck pump is on large sites, where it can be used laterally, versus a combination of stationary pump + placing boom, which can be more effective on a tower project, since it can climb with the tower.
“Concrete is a very aggressive material, and the same exact pump can go with you for life or you can have problems after just a few years. The difference is 100% based on the maintenance, on the check-ups, parts availability and all these things. And this is a big issue here in the Middle East region, but also in Africa,” says Eit, adding that having dealers in each market who can train and support customers is essential. Correct operating procedure is also important, such as avoiding vibrations. The Dubai warehouse has a large supply of spare parts, acting as a hub to supply the MEA region, in addition to the local stock level in each dealer’s warehouse. Of course, concrete truck pumps are a key piece of equipment on any construction site, and a breakdown or stoppage during

Truck-mounted pumps are the most efficient way to pour concrete on large construction sites.
AFRICA - MIDDLE EAST NEWS - CONCRETE PUMPS
Over time, use of truck pumps will become more widespread across all markets, Eit believes. Both truck-mounted and stationary pumps will get the job done, though truck pumps are easier and faster, and their popularity will increase where there is stable growth and increasing demand for contractors to deliver projects with certain timeframes.
A force in the Saudi Arabian market A prominent force in the concrete machinery sector in Saudi Arabia and the wider region is KiCE Construction Equipment, headquartered in Al-Uyun in Hassa Region in western KSA. The company sells concrete batching plants, transit mixers and truck-mounted pumps, as well as other equipment. Its batching plants are manufactured in Saudi Arabia – it was the first company to begin manufacturing concrete batching plants locally, and also produces Oshkosh McNeilus transit mixers – and it also sells Snowkey Ice plants and water chillers, as
well as Zenith block-making machines and other brands. With a patent for its batching plant, these are sold throughout the GCC and the greater Middle East. Its truck-mounted pumps are manufactured by Junjin in South Korea, and are sold in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. Around 80% of customers are ready-mix companies, while the remainder are contractors or a few other types, says Wael Shehata, General Manager at KiCE. With customers focused on maximising productivity and minimising cost, another popular feature for the Junjin pumps is the ability to use universal components for parts such as valves, main hose, pipes and rubber pistons, which can lower costs. From an operational standpoint, contractors like the Junjin truck-mounted pumps for their long booms, providing additional reach for projects, says Shehata. The Junjin range covers the main boom lengths in demand. The truck-mounted pumps are sold with open loop hydraulics, an approach better suited to the high ambient temperatures commonly found in the Gulf, while also being easier to maintain, says Shehata. Given the critical nature of a pump for a pouring operation, Shehata says it’s essential that customers be rigorous in the maintenance and servicing of their equipment. Customers have the choice of a service-level agreement (SLA) from KiCE, or taking responsibility for service themselves. SLAs will ensure that pumps are ready to work and will help ensure the reliability and longevity of the machines.
KiCE sells the Junjin range in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
Leveraging its significant engineering and service know-how, KiCE also offers a refurbishment service to rebuild pumps or supply used machines with a new pump, whether a firm wants to continue to use them or sell them second-hand..

MILESTONE
CATERPILLAR SURPASSES 3 BILLION TONNES HAULED AUTONOMOUSLY Caterpillar announced an additional 1 billion tonnes of material hauled by autonomous trucks using Cat MineStar Command for hauling, surpassing the 3 billion tonnes milestone. This achievement is joined by an expansion of the types of commodities hauled autonomously across a growing number of Cat mining truck class sizes, as well as other brands of mining equipment. Caterpillar has Command autonomous haulage system (AHS) fleets operating across three continents – North America, South America and Australia – at 17 mine locations, operated by nine different customers. Commodities mined using the Cat Command include iron ore, oil sands, copper, coal and gold. Command for hauling trucks now span class sizes from 190 to 360 tonnes (210 to 400 tons). The Cat line of Command models include the Cat 789D, 793D, 793F, 797F and the 297-tonne (327-ton) 794 AC with electric drive. Since the first autonomous Cat trucks were commissioned in 2013, these AHS models have traveled more than 110 million km (68.3
million miles), equivalent to a minimum-distance, straight-line roundtrip journey to Mars, with no lost-time injuries associated with automated truck operation. Customers using Command for hauling report significant gains in productivity and truck utilization rates with lower costs per tonne. Customers have seen up to 30% higher productivity..

INNOVATION
XCMG DELIVERS 100 UNITS OF LW500FN WHEEL LOADERS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
MERCEDES-BENZ TRUCKS AND SHELL SUCCESSFULLY TRIAL DIGITAL FUEL PAYMENTS Mercedes-Benz Trucks is taking another important step in the digitization of its vehicles. In practical tests, Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks have for the first time paid automatically for fuel at Shell service stations in Stuttgart, Germany. The experts at Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Shell installed a new prototype of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ previously presented digital Truck-ID to the truck dashboard combined with a digital fuel card prototype enabled by Shell SmartPay API technology.
Chinese construction machinery manufacturer, XCMG, sent off more than 100 units of the LW500FN wheel loader to Southeast Asia to aid in the construction of grain silos in various local markets in the region. The LW500FN wheel loader is a 5-ton model that excels in high performance, service longevity and structural endurance. It operates with a 15.8-ton digging force and a 15.6-ton traction force for different operating situations. The model has a 1,274mm long dumping reach for sufficient space and a 2,900mm wheelbase that guarantees reliability. Built with a heavy-duty load design with the front and rear frames in a box-type layout, the LW500FN runs at an 11.5km/hour operational speed incorporated with rapid shovelling. The adjustable, load-sensing steering with a small turning radius provides flexibility and efficiency. According to XCMG, the client is a Chinese company with overseas business operations, and XCMG has been its top pick from the start.
The Truck-ID works like an integrated ID card, so the transactions are uniquely assigned to the vehicle and automatically signed by the vehicle itself. Shell SmartPay API functions as a data transmitter – API stands for Application Programming Interface – and allows for the digitalization of fuel cards and payments for fuel on Shell sites through truck board computer systems. The Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks used in the tests are regular series-production vehicles whose software has been supplemented to include the payment service authorization functions. A truck’s in-built digital fuel card could make working life easier for drivers in several ways. For example, by eliminating the need to go to the cash register. Transport companies could benefit from a significant reduction in administrative work as they wouldn’t have to handle physical cards anymore and from more secure processes. Also, the digital fuel card would make widespread fuel fraud more difficult. According to estimates by experts, the annual loss caused by this type of fuel fraud involving heavy-duty trucks in Europe can run into the millions for the transport industry..
“From a business perspective, profit is the primary goal of our customers. That is, getting more done with less money, but this certainly doesn’t mean that customers would compromise on equipment quality. On the contrary, overseas construction projects have stricter requirements for the machineries’ functionality and performance,” said Wang Min, Chairman and CEO of XCMG. To cope with the harsh construction environment and serious wearing of the parts, XCMG has customized and reinforced more than 100 units of LW500FN loaders with an improved chassis protection function, providing comprehensive solutions throughout the entire life cycle of the loaders..

ROMAC LOGISTICS ORDERS 10 CNG-FUELLED IVECO S-WAY NP 460 National distribution and warehousing specialists, Romac Logistics, has become one of the very first operators in the UK to press the new IVECO S-WAY Natural Power into service. Joining a fleet of 220 trucks are 10 new 4x2 IVECO S-WAY AS440S46T/P NP CNG tractors. These are the latest in IVECO’s line-up of natural gas-powered heavy trucks, employing the 12.9-litre Natural Power Cursor 13 engine at 460hp with a healthy 2,000Nm of torque between 1,100 and 1,600rpm. Putting that power to the ground is the smooth and well-respected 12-speed HI-TRONIX automated gearbox, with a ZF retarder providing plenty of low-maintenance stopping power without having to rely on the service brakes. Green credentials are becoming an increasingly prevalent benchmark for businesses looking for a logistics affiliate and while natural gas brings huge reductions to carbon footprints, it is beneficial commercially too. In support of the mission to rapidly decarbonise the UK’s transport sector, fuel duty on alternative fuels such as Compressed or Liquified Natural Gas are locked at 50% that of diesel until 2032. Internally, the cabs are fitted with an independent cab heater, 7" touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, Bluetooth

hile there’s always plenty of focus on selling new machines, sometimes getting your older machines back to peak productivity is just as good. Machine rebuilds, which can essentially restore a well-used machine to its original condition, are less expensive than a new machine, while also allowing fleet managers to maintain preferred machines that their operators are familiar with. A rebuild carried out in the middle of a machine’s expected life cycle allows a fleet manager to potentially double the life of a machine, while improving residual values. A certified rebuild for a Caterpillar machine typically costs around 40-60% of the new machine price, says Abdallah I. Mustafa, Product Support Commodity Manager at Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar, the Caterpillar dealer for the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. Rebuilds are most common for larger machines in the construction, quarrying and mining sectors. The most common machines rebuilt from the Caterpillar population in Al-Bahar’s territories are wheel loaders 966 and larger, D8 to D11 dozers, hydraulic excavators 345 and larger, and 740, 769 and 771 articulated trucks, says Mustafa. Rebuilds can be carried out on machines as old as twenty years, he adds, and older machines can also benefit from optional upgrades to newer features found on the current range.
Depending on the state of a machine, customers can opt for different levels of rebuild, including a Complete Certified Rebuilds or a Certified Power Train Rebuild. When a Caterpillar machine is at the end of its first life-cycle, one can have full second life-cycle with Complete Certified Rebuild, explains Mustafa. “The machine is completely stripped down and all non-metal components are replaced. One can recover all the performance and productivity of the original machine while benefiting from the latest engineering updates.” In a Certified Power Train Rebuild, all components in the power train are rebuilt completely as per Caterpillar standards. Whether a machine needs a full rebuild or repairs comes down to several factors. “Both planned repair indicators and problem indicators are taken into consideration, such as inspections, scheduled oil samples, machine performance, operator notes, SMU (hours on the machines) and chassis condition assessment. Additionally, we also consider other factors like smoke colour, low power, vibration, hesitation and more,” says Mustafa. “We can rely on technical analysis level 2 inspections if the machine is in working condition, as well as Product Link health indicators if the machine is connected.” In total, Al-Bahar has carried out more than 120 machinecertified rebuilds – each a significant undertaking – and

frequently sees return customers for the service, indicating their satisfaction, says Mustafa. “The majority of [these rebuilds] were done for repeat customers who were satisfied from their first experience and the outcome of the first machines rebuilt. We have also done fleet deals with rebuild agreements with more than 10 machines for a single customer.”
The circular economy Jacob Kihlberg, Rebuild Product Manager for Volvo Construction Equipment, Region Europe & International, says there is a clear economic argument in favour of rebuilding a machine in the existing fleet, versus buying a new or secondhand machine. “By rebuilding your machine, you protect your initial investment and prolong the life of the asset for a much lower price than buying a new machine. In return, you receive a fully operational machine with high productivity and secured uptime, without making any impact on the capital expenditure. Studies also show that the total cost of ownership is reduced when rebuilding a machine compared to buying a new one, as the depreciation and insurance costs are lower, for example.” Volvo CE offers rebuild services via authorised dealers. Rebuilds are suitable for any larger machines in the Volvo range of wheel loaders, articulated haulers and excavators, says Kihlberg. Depending on the application, environment and maintenance record, the time for the rebuild varies, but it normally occurs between 10,000 and 20,000 hours. “Prior to any rebuild, the machine is carefully inspected by a Volvo technician who performs a health check of the machine,” explains Kihlberg. “In dialogue with the customer about the findings, we always tailor our offers based on the customer’s needs. The scope can be within the range of a powertrain rebuild, focusing on the performance of the machine, to a full-scale rebuild with renovated operator cab, repainting and retrofitted options.” The fact that a rebuild is planned, rather than the result of an unscheduled breakdown, means a fleet manager is taking

responsibility for uptime and proactive measures, with a rebuilt machine also having a significantly lower risk of a major future breakdown. “The rebuild is conducted with a planned downtime, which means the customer can also plan and adapt to the absence of the machine,” Kihlberg says. “With proper planning, we prepare and order everything needed for the rebuild in advance so that the machine can go back into operation until it is brought to the workshop for normally five to ten weeks.” Volvo dealers frequently see repeat business for the rebuild service, speaking to the fact that fleet managers see it as a good alternative, from both a quality and financial perspective, to buying a new or second-hand machine. “Taking in the aspects of the major environmental benefit of restoring instead of scrapping a machine, the rebuild alternative really attracts more and more customers who are in favour of a circular economy,” explains Kihlberg. “Today a large machine contains hundreds of kilos of copper, aluminium and bronze. To reuse these natural resources in the most effective way is becoming more and more important for our customers, and rebuilding is the most effective way.”.
Overhauling a machine has environmental as well as cost benefits compared with buying a new machine and scrapping the old.

CONTINENTAL LAUNCHES NEW LOADER TIRE pressures on the road to enhance fuel efficiency, and lower pressures in the yard or field when carrying heavy loads,” said Benjamin Hübner, Product Line Manager Product Line Manager Agricultural Tires at Continental Commercial Specialty Tires.
Continental launched a new telehandler and skid-steer loader tire. The CompactMaster AG tire is the first to be designed with a new Turtle Shield tread layer and twisted steel belt. The new tire is capable of operating at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour. “This level of tolerance is an indication of the strength and flexibility of the tire. The twisted steel belt provides a robust yet flexible tire that can run at higher
52
Compared to a standard agricultural tire pattern, the new lug design of the CompactMaster AG tire provides five percent more surface area. “This lug design further enhances grip and will also contribute to the tire wearing more evenly, which can improve the hours and mileages the tire will deliver,” said Hübner. Telehanders and skid steer loaders also have to make stationary turns on hard surfaces which increases the lateral pressure that is put through the tire. The twisted steel belt construction of the CompactMaster AG tire makes it stiffer which provides greater stability. Continental CompactMaster AG tires are available for 24inch wheels, size 460/70R24 159B..

HONDA AND KOMATSU BEGIN JOINT DEVELOPMENT OF MICRO EXCAVATORS
FULL-ELECTRIC COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
VOLTA TRUCKS ACCELERATES ITS AMBITIOUS ROADTO-ZERO EMISSIONS STRATEGY Volta Trucks, the leading full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, has announced its Road-to-Zero Emissions strategy as it delivers on its vision of decarbonising the logistic industry, offering cleaner air and safer streets for city centre residents. The announcement comes at a time of increasing societal focus on climate change and air quality improvements, with many cities implementing low or zero emission zones.
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and Komatsu Ltd. announced they have signed a basic agreement and begun joint development to electrify Komatsu micro excavators using the Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) and to strive to establish a batterysharing system for the civil engineering and construction industry which will enable mutual use of MPPs among various types of construction machinery and equipment. The two companies have been at the forefront of the industry in taking initiative to realize products with low environmental impact. Honda has been expanding the lineup of products powered by MPPs, and Komatsu introduced a battery-powered mini excavator to the Japanese market in April 2020. Through this joint development, the two companies will electrify the Komatsu PC01 micro excavator by equipping it with Honda MPPs and an electrified power unit (eGX). Among various construction machines Komatsu offers, the PC01 is most likely to be used for various functions at worksites near people, trees, flowers and ornamental plants, including pipe-laying, landscaping and agricultural and livestock work. The two companies will strive to introduce the electrified Komatsu PC01 before the end of the current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2022.
Building upon the success of the Volta Zero - the first purpose-built full-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle designed for inner-city last mile deliveries – Volta Trucks plans to expand its product portfolio with three additional variants within the Medium- to lower end of the Heavy-Duty class. With Volta Zero models available in the 7.5-tonne, 12-tonne, 16-tonne and 19-tonne weight categories, the Company will offer a comprehensive range of full- electric commercial vehicles that have been reimagined and redesigned thanks to their innovative, compact electric powertrains by logistics people for the logistics industry. Given the strength of market demand for the 16-tonne Volta Zero, Volta Trucks will accelerate its market entry with a Europe-first strategy, followed by US and Asian cities. Volta Trucks expects to introduce the Volta Zero in all its four weight variants across all its core markets. Given the significant market demand for full-electric commercial vehicles, driven by customers’ needs and regulation, Volta Trucks targets to sell more than 27,000 units per year by the end of 2025, with volumes increasing further in the following years..
In addition to significantly reducing noise and exhaust heat, electrification of the micro excavator will reduce its environmental impact by realizing “zero exhaust gas emission,” which enables users to work comfortably in various indoor and outdoor work environments. Moreover, by taking advantage of the unique features of MPP as a swappable battery, the user can continue using the electrified equipment without waiting for a MPP to recharge..

VERSATILITY
GENIE EXPANDS MICRO SCISSOR PRODUCT LINE Full-sized performance in a compact, lightweight footprint, along with a low total cost of ownership make the new Genie GS-1432m and 1932m micro scissor lifts versatile options for nearly any work-at-height application up to 19ft. “Our new Genie micro scissors are lightweight and compact enough to drive through doorways with standard fixed guardrails, be transported in standard elevators, and feature front-wheel drive with a zero degree inside turning radius - which means they are highly maneuverable in tight spaces. But, despite their compact footprint, the platform is sized to ensure two people can work comfortably together in the platform,” said Michael Flanagan, Genie Product Manager. “Not only are these new Genie micro scissors a safe alternative to ladders and a more productive alternative to vertical mast lifts, they also are well suited for any job where you might normally use a standard 19ft scissor lift, making them a truly versatile, do-it-all machine on any jobsite and in any rental fleet.” Powering the new micro scissors is the same brushless, fully sealed and maintenance-free AC electric drive motors as the Genie E-Drive slab scissor lifts introduced last November, which deliver industry- leading efficiency and a 35% reduction in lifetime maintenance costs. “With Genie E-Drive, these new micro scissors are four times more efficient than traditional hydraulic drive systems. E-Drive enables the scissor lifts to run 30% longer on a single charge for greater productivity on the jobsite while reducing lifetime battery costs by up to 20%,” said Flanagan, adding that maintenance costs are further reduced by design optimization that reduced hydraulic hoses and fittings by 70%, meaning
there are fewer replaceable or serviceable parts. Ideal for applications including industrial and manufacturing maintenance, commercial construction, warehousing and data centers, the new Genie micro scissors also offer realworld 25% gradeability and powerful traction for loading and unloading. The GS-1432m weighs less than 2,000lb (900kg), which is 30% lighter than comparable standard-sized scissor lifts and is rated for both indoor and outdoor use. Field test data shows that 95% of the time, operators using a 19 ft scissor lift stay below 15ft. With a maximum indoor and outdoor platform height of 14ft 1in (4.30m), the GS-1432m is tall enough to meet the needs the majority of applications currently using a 19 ft scissor lift, and also is lightweight enough to operate in jobsites previously only accessible by vertical mast lifts, simplifying fleet management and improving rental utilization, Flanagan says. The GS-1932m measures 81cm wide by 1.40m long and is only 1.97m tall when stowed. With an indoor platform height of 5.55m and an outdoor platform height of 5.18m, a full-width platform size and a weight of just 1,179kg, the GS-1932m is well suited for all 19ft scissor tasks and is lightweight enough to access jobsites that are out of reach for traditional 19ft scissors. With a 227kg capacity, the new micro scissors are rated for two workers and feature a 0.81m wide platform and 0.6m extension deck, ensuring good access to work locations. Additionally, with a stowed height of less than 2m, both new micro scissors are able to drive through a doorway with standard fixed guardrails, improving jobsite productivity..

BRAND OVERHAUL
BAUMA TO BE POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 2022
CONEXPO-CON/ AGG UNVEILS NEW LOGO AND BRAND IDENTITY CONEXPO-CON/AGG, the premier event that connects experts from every major construction sector, unveiled a new brand identity and tag line, Taking Construction to the Next Level.
The world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery is postponed to autumn 2022. That is the result of many discussions between Messe München and top industry representatives as well as the Advisory Board. New date is October 24-30, 2022. Considering the particularly long planning times for exhibitors and organizers at the world’s largest trade show, the decision had to be made now. This provides exhibitors and visitors a secure planning basis for preparing the upcoming bauma. “The decision to postpone bauma was not an easy one for us, of course. But we had to make it now, before the exhibitors start planning their participation in the trade show and make corresponding investments,” said Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München. Initially, bauma was to be held from April 04 to 10, 2022. Despite the pandemic, both the industry’s response and the booking level was very high. However, in numerous discussions with customers, there was a growing recognition that the April date involved too many uncertainties in view of the global pandemic. The prevailing opinion was that it is currently difficult to assess whether worldwide travel. Regardless of the postponement, the technical and organizational planning for bauma 2022 continues. The core of bauma 2022 will be the face-to-face event, augmented and expanded by digital offerings. In consultation with the industry, the most important industry topics have already been defined for bauma 2022. Reflecting the megatrends of digitalization and sustainability, bauma 2022 will focus on the following topics: • • • • •
The road to zero emissions Digital construction site Construction methods and materials of tomorrow The road to autonomous machines Mining-sustainable, efficient, reliable
58
The updated branding reflects the growth and momentum of the construction industry and the role the exhibition plays in connecting innovators, equipment manufactures and construction professionals. Held every three years in Las Vegas, CONEXPO-CON/AGG is North America’s largest construction trade show featuring the latest construction equipment and technology applications for the industry. “The launch of a new identity for CONEXPO-CON/AGG reflects how the show and our industry has evolved and what it aspires to be in the future,” said Dana Wuesthoff, Vice President exhibitions and event services at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and CONEXPOCON/AGG show director. “The forward motion of the logo matches the forward motion of the show, where construction professionals experience the latest equipment, participate in demonstrations and education, make new professional connections, and grow their own marketability within the industry.” The forward-pointing arrows indicate progress and momentum, while the deepening colors represent growth. The tread-like arrangement of the arrows conveys traction and making a mark on the construction industry. This is the first complete overhaul of the CONEXPO-CON/AGG identity since CONEXPO and CONAGG combined in 1996. The next CONEXPO-CON/AGG and co-located IFPE takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from March 14-18, 2023..
