SAUDI ARABIA / EGYPT Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed to complete the procedures to implement the electricity interconnection project between the two countries by March 2019 to exchange 3,000 MW.

The total cost of the project was $1.6 billion, but after adjusting the routes and the increase in equipment prices, the cost increased to $2.5 billion. Additional costs in terms of lines, cables, and transformer substations in Saudi territories will be borne by the Saudi side. The same applies to Egypt, both in terms of signed contracts or current negotiations. Egypt will receive funding from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development; the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development; the Islamic Development Bank, and the self-resources of the EETC. The drilling and preparations works have variable costs according to the differing locations. The Saudi change in routes will lead to amending the tenders for establishing the substations and lines, to which three international companies have applied.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health in joint venture with the Ministry of Public Works is expected to float the tender for the main construction work by the second quarter of 2019. The project located in Al Sabah Medical Zone in Al Shuwaikh area, is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Kuwait Childrens Hospital would be the largest of its kind in the world with 792 beds, 30 operating theatres and more than 11,000 rooms. The 595,000 square-metre facility would provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care, and wellness programmes within a consolidated pediatric care model.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to construct a new traffic control centre in Al Barsha to cover the road network in the area with state-of-the art traffic control systems.

RTA, also revealed a plan for expanding the use of cameras and smart technologies for monitoring traffic movement, such as mobile cameras, to monitor the traffic flow at construction sites (of roads, bridges and tunnels) and congested areas where instant images will be transmitted to traffic control centres about the current traffic condition of roads. These cameras are integrated with an array of modern technologies such as telecommunication systems, solar power panels, and movement remote sensors.

Wednesday 5th, December, Komatsu Middle East FZE and Topcon Positioning Group have jointly organized the “2018 Technology Day” to showcase their latest technologies for construction site management.

The event, which took place near the Jebel Ali Shooting club, demonstrated and simulated earthmoving processes on a realistic construction site. Showing how state-of-the-art technology can optimize machine productivity, workflow and reduce operating cost.

Over 180 Visitors from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey attended full day informative lectures, watched live demonstrations and had face-to-face discussions with industry experts from Komatsu and Topcon.

TWO RAIMONDI MRT294 Tower Cranes go to Work on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

S

upported by Raimondi Cranes Middle East, contractor National Project & Construction LLC (NPC) has installed two MRT294 tower cranes at a major residential project in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, in the UAE. Currently operational, and with an Height Under Hook (HUH) of 62.5 meters and jib lengths of 60 meters, the cranes are based on the Water’s Edge development, which is part of Yas Island masterplan being managed by the Emirate’s largest developer, Aldar.

“As one of Raimondi’s heaviest lifters, the MRT294s are a very suitable fit for this project. The maximum capacity of this model is 16 tonnes, and it has enabled NPC to relocate it repeatedly to many of their landmark jobsites in the county,” said Wael Hasan, Middle East Commercial Director, Raimondi Cranes.

Featuring residential buildings, its own canal and an 800 meter promenade, Water’s Edge is a focal point of the Yas Island, a major leisure and entertainment destination in the UAE. The island also includes theme parks Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros World, as well as a Formula 1 racetrack at Yas Marina.

The tyres are charged with the heavy task of transporting huge amounts of iron over the total haul distance from the open pit mine to the dump area without any downtime or failures. Due to the severe road conditions including the risk of damage from sharp rocks and other objects, this customer decided to select the special cut-compound recommended by Magna.

After three months of intensive usage, the first site check has been carried out. More than 2000 operating hours resulted in a promising achievement. The all steel radial

Time is Ticking as MENA Region Gears up for Trenchless Middle East

I

f it’s not already in your diary, then be sure to mark down 18th-19th February 2019, as the exclusive Jumeirah Beach Conference and Exhibition Centre in Dubai provides the backdrop for the 11th bi-annual Trenchless Middle East exhibition, the must-attend event solely focused on trenchless technology (NDRC) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.

With large-scale infrastructure plans announced from municipalities and authorities such as DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) and RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) and developers including Dubai Holdings (Global Investment Holdings Company), Nakheel and Emaar, the use of trenchless technology continues at pace across the Middle East.

Dubai’s recent launch of a new five-year plan for the emirate’s transport industry, cemented its reputation in the Middle East as a major investor in infrastructure. Between 2014 and 2016, the RTA launched a staggering 29 initiatives under the government’s Smart City project, the goal of which is to turn Dubai into a global centre for the use of innovation and technology in urban planning. In addition, the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau (RSB) for electricity and water in Dubai, has revealed that Dubai’s cumulative investment in the energy efficiency market increased to an impressive AED 500 million in 2017.

Going forward, DEWA has announced it’s set to award contracts worth $3.1 billion over the next three years as contractors will be brought on board for the construction of 91 new substations in Dubai emirate. In a statement released by the utilities’ provider, it said that these new contracts are part of DEWA’s efforts to support and upgrade the capacity and efficiency of the electricity transmission networks.

Dubai itself continues to back some of the most ambitious projects in the world, perhaps most excitingly, the Hyperloop which will carry passengers on the 87-mile trip to Abu Dhabi in just 12 minutes. The government also recently approved $354 million on the 20 PlantAndEquipment.com | January 2019

The success story of bauma CHINA has just added another chapter: The 9th International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines and Construction Vehicles was held from November 27 to 30 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and broke all records once again. The trend: smart, digital, sustainable.

A total of 3.350 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions, an increase of 13 percent compared with the preceding exhibition year, gathered in a grand exhibition area spanning 330.000 square meters that included two new halls. With an increase of 25 percent, the trade show attracted 212.500 visitors—94 percent coming from Asia. The Top 10 countries and regions are: China, Korea, Russia, India, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore.

Among the exhibitors, 73 percent came from China. They included China Railway Construction, China Sinomach, Dingli, Lingong, Lovol, Sany, Shantui, South Highway, Sunward, Sunhunk, XCMG and Zoomlion. This turnout reflected the strong presence of Chinese companies in the market. A representative of XCMG said: “bauma CHINA is an important exhibition for the Chinese construction machinery industry and we exhibited at each bauma CHINA since its establishment. This year’s show has larger scale and better quality. Our booth is very busy with a lot of customers from China and abroad.” Zou Xuesong, Deputy General Manager of China SINOMACH Heavy Industry Corporation, added: “This year, apart from an unprecedented exhibitor number, the quantity of visitors we have reached is also very encouraging. Most of the visitors are from the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific area.”

Industry heavyweights like Bauer, Caterpillar, Doosan, Epiroc, Fayat, Hyundai, Kobelco, Komatsu, Liebherr, Volvo and Wirtgen helped round out the fair along with many others.

In total 8 international pavilions-Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, the USA, and two Korea pavilions, as well as for the first time a European pavilion-underscored the international character of the show. The growth market of China continues to exert a magnetic attraction around the world. Zhou Yiping, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Volvo Construction Equipment Investment (China) Co., Ltd., pointed: “For us, bauma CHINA is the largest construction machinery exhibition in the Asian-Pacific region. Through such a platform, we can further enhance our brand image.”

Jonathan Stringham, Vice President Strategy, Marketing and Digitization of BOMAG Germany, also said: “Our impression of bauma CHINA 2018 is very good. We have had many customers visiting our booth, showing a high interest in our machines and technology.

Most of the customers were from China of course but we have also had visitors from SouthEast Asia and Russia. China already is a major market for BOMAG and we expect to continue our growth here.”

A greater number of intelligent, digital and green products appeared than at the previous fair. Electromobility and driverless vehicles were seen as the future trend at bauma CHINA 2018. Caterpillar’s next generation of large excavator models has taken a huge leap forward and boosted efficiency by up to 45 percent. The Chinese company Sany presented an excavator that can be operated remotely with the help of virtual reality. In the process, the operator has the impression that he or she is sitting behind the wheel. Volvo’s Co-Pilot has introduced a high-resolution touchscreen that acts as co-operator. It provides unlimited access to standard Volvo assist functions to collect real-time operational data. To summarize: bauma CHINA 2018 served as a trendsetter for the Asian market.

n November 30, the four-day bauma CHINA 2018 ended successfully. The exhibition ushered 3,350 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions worldwide, highlighting the new height of the construction machinery industry.

SDLG Unveils Concept Electric Compact Excavator at bauma China 2018 The 6 t capacity prototype emits zero emissions, reduces noise levels, and offers higher efficiency and significantly reduced operation costs.

SDLG showcased the E660F-EX, a concept electric compact excavator, at bauma China 2018. The concept excavator is SDLG’s first foray into electromobility and is not available commercially. The E660F-EX was among the 25 construction machine models that SDLG exhibited during the November 27 to 30 event at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, China.

“The E660F-EX is SDLG’s first machine to utilize electric motors,” said Wang Xiaohui, general manager of SDLG Import and Export Company. “The concept machine demonstrates SDLG’s dedication toward electromobility. We are investing in research and construction equipment that will produce lower emissions, reduced noise levels, and will be more energy efficient without compromising machine performance.”

The concept E660F-EX can be recharged by plugging into a power grid or the vehicle-charging facilities that are already available in China. A full recharge takes between three to four hours on a 32 amp grid. With a dedicated grid, the E660F-EX could be recharged within one hour.

“On a full charge, the E660F-EX can perform continuous digging for about three hours,” Wang said.

A

t 45 Franziskaner Strasse in Munich, during the war, people fled to shelter in neighbouring buildings, escaping via underground tunnels, to avoid being stopped in the streets. Some of these tunnels were built as early as 1700. Today the galleries and tunnels are still there, underneath modern buildings, houses, shops, that more often now, need to expand in order to accommodate new tenants or new businesses.

Already crowded city centres cannot spread outside, there are streets, parking bays, sidewalks and generally little space. So the courtyard is the only available choice.

This happened at number 45, where the German company Stรถger Baggebetrieb, took on this civil renovations and began to build an extension by demolishing part of the inner courtyard moving on to build new foundations.

The biggest challenge was to safely manage the construction site, in a short time and without disturbing the neighbourhood. The difficulties to face were several: move the equipment, obviously compact, through the narrow courtyard entrance. Do not make too much dust or too much noise, nor vibrations. Logistic management and site safety At number 45 the courtyard entrance is narrow, at the inner yard itself is small. The only equipment capable of fitting without problems is a 5 tons mini-excavator. Others could not have carried out excavations operations. And then? What to do with the excavate material? At first glance the solution seemed to be to load it onto small lorries and haul it the recycling centres, to then bring back the stabilized material into the yard to fill the foundation base.

A logistic management nightmare.

Too many lorries to coordinate in and out. Timing issues. Unforeseen costs.

Downtime and city centres truck circulations limitation. All factors that could have made this job never-ending and very expensive.

The cost-effective solution? Install a crusher bucket MB-C50 on the Cat excavator and do the work directly inside the yard. In total safety, because the crusher bucket is operated directly from the excavator cab. Manoeuvred in small spaces, because the MB crusher bucket collect the material and reduce it on the same spot, the digger does not move, it simply scoop and crush.

SANY partners CIDB To Promote Industrialized Building System Together in Malaysia

SANY Construction Industry Development (SCID), a subsidiary of SANY Group., Co Ltd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) on 19th December of 2018 to build capacity in Industrialized Building System (IBS) in order to drive productivity in construction.

This is the first strategic cooperation agreement on IBS development between Malaysia Government Agency and private sector company from China, it reflects the high recognition and appreciation of the Malaysian government for the SANY industrialized building (IBS) system, it also reflects the determination of the Malaysian government to develop residential industrialization.

Strategic partnership with CIDB aims to share of information and expertise and technology related to IBS which could add value to construction industry, providing skills vocational industrial training whilst promoting equitable and sustainable Malaysian local economic participation. Collaboration between SANY and CIDB can also overcome the shortages of skill worker and our proposed industrial training can help meet the Malaysian government plans to increase skilled workforce and create job employment.

MAMMOET MAKES PORT CRANE MOVE HAPPEN

Mammoet was approached by Termont Montréal Inc. to relocate a port crane from one of their terminals to another one, 2.5 kilometers away.

O

Originally, the request was to load out the port crane on to a barge and ship it to its new location. This was because port operators positioned between Termont’s two terminals had safety concerns about moving the crane through their properties. Knowing the in-land option would be the fastest and most cost-effective solution, Mammoet worked closely with the client for over a year to help the negotiation process with the neighboring port operators. Mammoet provided a safe, fast and reliable execution plan to show the in-land relocation would cause minimal impact to neighboring businesses, ultimately resulting in the permission to carry out the plan. This eliminated the need for any barge operations, which saved time, cost, risk and effort.

Once this was granted, Mammoet reacted immediately, with only two weeks’ notice to source and mobilize equipment. This included sourcing 200 wooden mats for load spreading to ensure there was no damage caused to the neighboring properties. The team also had to account for an underground tunnel, which was protected using steel ramps.

The job was completed on a Saturday to minimize disruption to business activities. The 700-ton crane was placed on customized transport beams and 48 lines of SPMTs which maneuvered the crane safely and smoothly through the congested route. Their turning radius and easy access meant less preparation was required to move sea containers along the path of the busy port, saving even more time. Overall the move was completed within eight hours, only two of which the crane was located on the neighboring properties.

“We are very happy with how Mammoet handled this job and with all the Mammoet professionals who worked with us patiently over the last year until today,” said Termont’s Maintenance Manager (Directeur Entretien) Eric Lupien. “They made this move happen and performed it safely and smoothly, with minimum interruption to the port activities, thanks to a reliable solution and detailed planning. We will definitely call Mammoet for our next jobs.”

‫إن المرحلة الثانية لمشروع السيب ‪ STP‬هي حاليا في المراحل األولى من‬ ‫المناقصة‪ ،‬والتي تهدف إلى زيادة قدرة محطة معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي‬ ‫الحالية من ‪ 62٠٠٠‬متر مكعب في اليوم إلى ‪ ٨2٠٠٠‬متر مكعب في اليوم‬ ‫الستيعاب كميات أكبر من مياه الصرف الصحي للتعامل مع النمو الحضري‬ ‫والسكاني في مقاطعة‪.‬‬ ‫تقدر تكلفة المشروع بـ ‪ ١4‬مليون لاير عماني ويتوقع اكتماله بنهاية عام ‪.2٠2١‬‬ ‫وقد وافقت و ازرة المالية بالفعل على الحصول على القروض المصرفية الالزمة‬ ‫لتمويل المشروع‪ .‬سوف يتم تكليف مقاول للمشروع في مارس ‪.2٠١9‬‬ ‫‪97‬‬

‫هيئة الطرق والمواصالت في دبي (‪ )RTA‬تخطط لبناء مركز جديد ‬ ‫لمراقبة حركة المرور في منطقة البرشاء لتغطية شبكة الطرق في ‬ ‫المنطقة مع أحدث نظم مراقبة للحركة‪ .‬‬ ‫كما كشفت هيئة الطرق والمواصالت عن خطة لتوسيع استخدام ‬ ‫الكاميرات والتقنيات الذكية لمراقبة حركة المرور‪ ،‬مثل كاميرات ‬ ‫المحمول‪ ،‬لمراقبة تدفق حركة المرور في مواقع البناء (الطرق ‬ ‫والجسور واألنفاق) والمناطق المزدحمة حيث سيتم نقل الصور الفورية ‬ ‫إلى مراكز التحكم في حركة المرور حول حالة حركة المرور الحالية ‬ ‫للطرق‪ .‬تم دمج هذه الكاميرات مع مجموعة من التقنيات الحديثة مثل ‬ ‫أنظمة االتصاالت السلكية والالسلكية‪ ،‬ولوحات الطاقة الشمسية‪ ،‬‬ ‫وأجهزة االستشعار عن بعد للحركة‪.‬‬

‫بلغت التكلفة اإلجمالية للمشروع ‪ 1.6‬مليار دوالر ‪ ،‬ولكن بعد تعديل الطرق وزيادة أسعار المعدات ‪ ،‬ارتفعت التكلفة ‬ ‫إلى ‪ 2.5‬مليار دوالر‪ .‬يتحمل الجانب السعودي تكاليف إضافية من حيث الخطوط والكابالت ومحطات التحويل في ‬ ‫األراضي السعودية‪ .‬وينطبق الشيء نفسه على مصر ‪ ،‬سواء من حيث العقود الموقعة أو المفاوضات الجارية‪ .‬ستتلقى ‬ ‫مصر تمويالً من الصندوق الكويتي للتنمية االقتصادية العربية ؛الصندوق العربي لإلنماء االقتصادي واالجتماعي‪ ،‬‬ ‫والبنك اإلسالمي للتنمية‪ ،‬والموارد الذاتية للشركة‪ .‬‬ ‫أعمال الحفر واألعمال التحضيرية لها تكاليف متغيرة وفقًا لمواقع مختلفة‪ .‬سيؤدي التغيير السعودي في الطرق إلى تعديل ‬ ‫المناقصات إلنشاء المحطات والخطوط ‪ ،‬التي تقدمت لها ثالث شركات دولية‪ .‬‬ ‫‪99‬‬
