Sets New Attendance Record! With 19,687 unique visitors, this year’s show surpassed the previous highest attendance record set in 2005 The current spell of gloriously hot weather saw unprecedented crowds descend on Hillhead 2018, which took place over three days last week (26–28 June) at Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, in Derbyshire. According to the official figures, a record-breaking 19,687 unique visitors attended this year’s event, surpassing the show’s previous highest attendance record set in 2005. This year also saw more exhibitors (527+) in attendance than ever before, many of them occupying newly created space in the enlarged Registration Pavilion. Exhibition director Richard Bradbury said: ‘With clear blue skies, record crowds and all the majors from the plant and equipment world in attendance, business was buoyant and the atmosphere amongst the exhibitors and visitors was superb! As always, the showground, pavilions and various demonstration areas were packed with all the latest plant and equipment for the quarrying, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, recycling and construction sectors, many of the products on show for the first time in the UK. Among the multitude of impressive new product launches were the JCB 220X excavator, Volvo L260H wheel loader, Komatsu WA480-8 wheel loader, Powerscreen Trakpactor 550SR impactor, Keestrack H4e hybrid electric cone crusher, Sandvik QE343 screener and EvoQuip Colt 1000 scalping screen, to name just a few. DEMCON
Europe’s Biggest Demolition Show The demolition show DEMCON, which will be held at InfraCity north of Stockholm, is the world’s largest trade fair specifically for the demolition industry. Held from the 27-28 September, the evening of the first day of the show will see the Swedish Demolition Prize being awarded to entrepreneurs and manufacturers. On 27-28 September this year, DEMCON will be held for the seventh time. The show is aimed at contractors involved in demolition, concrete cutting, concrete flooring, sanitation, hydrodemolition, recycling crushing and scrap handling - effectively anything and anybody involved in demolition. Although a pan-European show, the majority of visitors and exhibitors come from Sweden and the other Nordic countries. A Real Industry Party DEMCON possesses a narrow industry and geographical focus, being mainly attended by professionals from the Nordic countries. “DEMCON is like a big family party where many of the exhibitors and visitors have known each other for a long time. It’s a lovely feeling that I have not experienced at any other trade fair,” says Jan Hermansson, project manager for DEMCON. 78 PlantAndEquipment.com | August 2018
At DEMCON, there is a wide selection of the latest developments in demolition, rehabilitation, concrete cutting, recycling, hydrodemolition, grinding and polishing of concrete floors, dust and slurry handling and much more. In addition to the indoor hall exhibition, there is also an outdoor area where visitors can test the machines. The show has grown since its beginnings, as when the exhibition began, there were usually 30 or so exhibiting companies; this year, the fair is almost fully booked with two of the major brand names for quick couplings, OilQuick and Steelwrist, exhibiting for the first time. A number of other new exhibitors have also been added, as well as brand leaders from the concrete cutting industry.
NEW S Differing Sponsorship Levels This year the exhibition is sponsored by a number of companies, with two new levels of sponsorships having been added. The diamond level (the main sponsor), is Swedish Diamond tool Consulting (SDC). The Ruby level is also new, and is Pentruder. The Platinum sponsor is, as usual, Husqvarna Construction Products, Gold Sponsor is Tyrolit and the two Silver sponsors are Jack Midhage AB and relative newcomer Drome. DEMCON is supported by the Swedish trade associations for concrete cutting and demolition, and is also supported by the international umbrella organization for concrete cutters, IACDS, and EDA, the European Demolition Association. In parallel with the fair itself, a series of activities have been arranged. The suppliers in the industry will hold their autumn meeting at the same time as the fair. Likewise, the Swedish concrete cutting and demolition associations brings together all its members to the autumn meeting on Thursday, 27 September, and later that afternoon they will organise their usual ‘mingle’ at the show ground. Seminars and Workshops At this year’s DEMCON there will be a number of seminars dealing with a number of relevant demolition industry topics. The organiser,
SCOP AB, has organised seminars on silica dust hazards and protection from their effects; the treatment of contaminated water at the construction site and safety at the workplace. IACDS has extended an invitation to visitors to participate in workshops on the subject concrete cutting. Similarly, the EDA will host separate workshops on demolition and decontamination. Registering for the workshops is done via the fair website, www.demcon.se. The Swedish Demolition Prize 2018 On the Thursday evening of the show, the DEMCON gala dinner will be held, which will see the award of the Swedish Demolition Prize 2018. The prize was first awarded at the 2012 DEMCON, and was highly appreciated by both contractors and manufacturers. In total, around 15 prizes are divided into 12 different categories under the collective name ‘demolition’. Several nomination proposals have already reached the prize jury, but further nomination proposals are welcomed. XCMG Constructs Stabilized Soil Mixing Plant XC800S in 7 Days on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
XCMG’s first high-speed stabilized soil mixing plant XC800S constructed 4.2 km above the sea level on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau XCMG recently constructed the third high-speed stabilized soil mixing plant XC800S at 4.8 km above sea level on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the world’s highest and largest plateau that is of great strategic importance in the implementation of China’s Grand Western Development and “Belt and Road” Initiative. This was a part of the demand for 4 highly reliable cost effective and high-speed stabilized soil mixing plant equipments that XCMG had secured from a Shaanxi-based construction unit. To construct such a giant equipment on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau averagely standing over 3km above sea level is almost an impossible mission because the Plateau, also known as the “Roof of the World” and the “Third Pole”, has a harsh environment – low temperature, cold weather, strong sun’s rays, and overexposure to ultraviolet. But XCMG succeeded it in 7 days. Currently, the XC800S is functioning with an amazing performance that exceeds the client’s expectations. It is an improvement and refinement of previous products in XC series, equipped with a dual-mixing system and small cement transition chamber that portrays leading performances and technical indexes in China. Registrations Exceed All Expectations • Well-known exhibitors ramp up their trade fair presence • Kaeser Kompressoren SE and Tata Hitachi make their debut • India’s construction machinery market continues to grow The construction machinery market in India is booming. Infrastructure and construction projects are benefiting from long-term support thanks to reforms passed by the Indian government. These are positive signs that are also reflected in the number of companies signing up for the next bauma CONEXPO INDIA. The event will take place from December 11 to 14. Due to the positive feedback from visitors and exhibitors, the trade fair will be held for the second time at the HUDA Ground in Gurgaon/Delhi. With less than six months to go before it starts, the event organizers are optimistic about the upcoming construction machinery trade fair: “Demand is high and we are pleased with the high level of interest. We already have 30 percent more space registered than for the previous event,” says Bhupinder Singh, CEO of bC Expo India. Well-known companies such as ACE, Case, Caterpillar, JCB, Kobelco, L&T, LiuGong, PERI, Putzmeister, Sany, Schwing Stetter, Volvo, Wirtgen and Zoomlion have not only registered to take part again but have also increased the floor space for their stands. 84 PlantAndEquipment.com | August 2018

A major reason behind these promising trends are ambitious reforms passed by the Indian government that support infrastructure and construction projects.
