Science Night at the Stadium!

Families were welcomed to Bob Commings Field for a culminating event at the conclusion of our summer Mission to Mars program hosted this summer for elementary students on the GlenOak High School campus. Read more about our summer programming on pages 3 & 4.

Plain Local Community, Welcome back! The entire team in Plain Local is looking forward to another great school year. I am excited to introduce our theme for the 2021-2022 school year with our community, “What’s Your Why?” Your “Why” is a statement of purpose that describes why you do the work you do and why you live the lifestyle you do. It is your calling. It is your conviction. It is your mission statement. We may each have different “whys”, but together we have the same goals and we can make our community better each and every day if we work together. Each student and staff member in our district has been given a “What’s Your Why?” shirt to wear to show their school spirit. Remember every Friday is green and gold day in Plain Local! We will continue to work with staff and students to focus on their “why” throughout the school year. Stay tuned for more updates!

We have been preparing and planning this summer to deliver the best education in Stark County.

This edition is full of updates for the new year as well as celebrations for our community. I hope you will take the time to review and contact any building with questions or concerns. I want to give a special thank you to Oakwood Square and the many businesses that helped feed our staff for Convocation this year. Thank you to Royal Docks, Shale Brewing, The Bistro, Gioninos, Tlaquepaque and Drug Mart for providing food and drinks to our staff. Thank you also to the Plain Local Schools Foundation and Alumni Association, Kempthorn Motors and Liquid Custom Apparel for their sponsorships. Our staff was able to meet at Oakwood Square Plaza on August 17, for a kickoff celebration for the new year and this would not have been possible without the support of our community and these incredible businesses.

Lastly, I am pleased to announce the introduction of a new transportation software application for parents, Versatrans My Stop. This app allows parents to track their students’ bus location and arrival times, as well as receive notifications on delays, breakdowns and other pertinent information.

I encourage all families to utilize this technology as it will be timely and relevant information for all! You can read more about Versatrans My Stop on page 24.

Our theme for the 2021-2022 school year is “What’s Your Why?” Your “Why” is a statement of purpose describing why you do the work you do and why you live the lifestyle you do. It is your calling. It is your conviction. It is your mission statement. It is a vision of your life’s work. All of this together makes up your personal “WHY.” Through the 2021-2022 school year, we will share examples of “WHY” we do the work we do. In each issue of the Plain Paper, we will spotlight individuals, businesses, community members and more who help support our “WHY” day in and day out!

Summer Food Service Department (L-R) Sally Mason, Mary Jo Boone, Matt Foster and Lisa Barnes (Not pictured Stacey Hamilton and Carolyn Gemma) spent the summer preparing and serving meals for children in our community. This summer, our food service department provided 29,662 lunches and 27,976 complete breakfast meals, for a total of 57,638 meals provided in our community!

Oakwood Student Council began a project three years ago to collect plastic caps and lids to be recycled in exchange for recycled benches.

Thank you to our Plain community for helping Oakwood achieve their goal. Over three years, Oakwood has collected well over one ton (over 2,000 lbs) of plastic caps! Oakwood now has three beautifully new recycled benches in their entryway this school year. A special shout out to all of the student council students over the past three years, advisors Jeanette Garcia, Patty Ryter & Beth Waseity and our gracious community for their donations!

The GlenOak Band, Cheerleaders, Color Guard and Majorettes led the way at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Parade on Saturday, August 7, as the winner of the “Battle of the Bands.” Go Eagles!

GlenOak Cheerleading spent time in July at the Universal Cheerleaders Association cheer camp working on their skills and making lifelong memories. They were rewarded for their hard work with a variety of different awards and acknowledgements.

Heather Lyke, Sue Ramsey, Bernie Kosar and school administrators from districts within the Stark County Educational Service Center met in August to kick off the new school year. A focus on collaboration was key with several of our community partners present sharing their support for the new year. Guest speakers Sue Ramsey, Bernie Kosar and GlenOak’s own, Heather Lyke, shared wisdom, inspiration and personal stories about perseverance to inspire the crowd to tackle the 2021-2022 school year.

Summer Learning is a Success At the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year, in an effort to close learning gaps, offer a safe place for students over the summer and the opportunity to enrich the learning experience of students of all ages, the 2021 summer school program was a popular choice for many families!

Programs included Jumpstart to Kindergarten, for incoming Kindergarteners in the 2021-2022 school year. The program hosted over 40 kindergarten students as a jumpstart to their academic career at Plain Local Schools. We loved having these little eagles in our building this summer.

Mission to Mars, hosted for students in Grades 1-5.

Hosting over 220 students,

our Mission to Mars program was an exploration of having fun while learning.

Students attended field trips, worked with their teachers and the final event of the entire Mission to Mars program culminated on the last day of camp.

Science Night at the Stadium was open to all students and families and we had 225 individuals from 75 families RSVP to come and view all of the wonderful learning activities from our vendors. Stark State sponsored the purchase of t-shirts for all students, and Faith Bible and Full Devotion Church donated food for the event. MAD Science, Stark State, Stark County Library, our district staff and student-athletes

helped students participate in telescopes, science experiments, read alouds, a bottle rocket competition and more!

Our New Horizons program hosted over 65 students in Grades 6-9.

New Horizons was created specifically for our intermediate and middle school students. The program was designed around two themes: problem-based learning units and mentoring. Students worked in groups on a problem-based learning unit each day before working with two outside organizations on creative problem solving.

Book Buddies Make Reading Fun during Summer Months Students entering Grades K-2, who attended the district’s summer learning program, had the opportunity to extend their literacy development through our Book Buddies program.

Each student in our summer learning program received a bundle of beautiful and engaging books to keep at home. Some of the students used these books with their buddies, while others read their favorites from home. Some even read new and exciting books their buddies introduced them to.

Volunteers from the Plain Local staff signed up to work with a “Book Buddy” throughout the remaining summer weeks. These partnerships were designed to help our littlest eagles fall in love with reading through weekly meetings either in person or virtually, based on the families’ preferences. Some of our buddies met at the library, in parks, at their homes or online through Google Meets. Despite where they met, the results

were the same: the love of reading was definitely evident.

Here’s what some of our buddies had to say about the program: “The books the kids got were amazing! It was great to see their fluency and confidence improve when reading. I love children and children’s books, so it was a joy!” - Kim Frantum, first grade teacher at Avondale Elementary “My buddy was a new kindergartener starting this year, and it was nice to talk with the family a little and help them prepare even more as they head into the classroom!” - Ashley Keiffer, first grade teacher at Barr Elementary “I enjoyed connecting with one of my young dancers through a different means of learning!”

attention she received from her Book Buddy, Mrs. Campanizzi! They read a lot of different books together and it was a great way for her to connect with a teacher at her school.

She really looked forward to their time together and loved having a buddy to read with!” - Brandie Johnston, parent of Emery, budding first grader “I think this was a great way for kids to stay connected with books and deepen their love of reading. Wow! Students from Mission to Mars are in awe of the planetarium at Discovery World, which was one of the field trips as a part of the Mission to Mars summer program.

Books and Buckets Soar on Koufos Courts A key to student learning is to attract students with a topic that is highly engaging. During the month of July, Plain Local invited a number of students to participate in a basketball and reading camp called Books and Buckets. Twicea-week students were bussed to the Kosta Koufos Courts in front of GlenOak High School. There they were greeted by Plain Local Teachers Seth Goshorn, Amanda Wightman, Lewis Adkins and Heather Philips.

The students began each week by hearing from highly influential members of our community. They were able to engage with Devin Jordan from Beyond the Game, Sgt. Lamar Sharp of the Canton Police Department, Malone Women’s Basketball point guard Holly Groff and Cleveland Cavaliers Youth Development Director, JJ Kakura. They also met with Plain Local staff including Business Manager Tom Brabson and Oakwood Middle School teacher and coach Hannah Ferguson, and were often met with high school student athletes during their days at camp.

Probably the biggest highlight, in every sense of the word, was former GlenOak standout Kosta Koufos.

Koufos spent time playing and talking with the students, and even posed for some photos with participants in their Books and Buckets t-shirts. Each week after playing various basketball games with their very own green and gold basketball, students were given a basketball themed book and

spent time discussing the book with the teachers.

The students took a new book home with them each day following lunch in the GlenOak cafeteria. At the conclusion of the camp the students received another basketball from the Canton Charge and an ice cream

treat from Country Cones.

In the end, the biggest take away was the time the teachers got to spend with the students playing basketball and reading engaging books.

Administrative Changes for the 2021-2022 School Year

We are pleased to announce the following changes to our administration for the 2021-2022 school year. Please join us in congratulating these members of our team as they look to serve in new roles during the upcoming school year!

Camille Anderson will be the new principal at Barr Elementary, replacing Trish Williams. Camille has taught in Plain Local for five years and the Canton City School District for six years.

Mr. May shared, “Camille has led various initiatives across the district and is highly respected by her peers.

Camille understands the curriculum and our families, as she will continue the excellence at Barr Elementary.”

Mrs. Anderson added, “I am honored to serve as the incoming principal of Barr Elementary! It is a privilege to work alongside this dedicated staff, wonderful student body and their families to continue the remarkable efforts that make the Barr community an exceptional place!

Together, we will continue to enrich the lives of each student through relationship building and academic achievement.”

Tyler Adkins will be an assistant principal at Glenwood Intermediate, joining Deirdre Coar and Trish Williams. Tyler has taught at Oakwood Middle School, and has most recently been the Dean of Students at Middlebranch Elementary. Tyler has accepted various roles in the district with great success. He just finished a highly successful summer school program as the principal. Mr. May added, “Tyler understands our families, and he is passionate about the vision and direction of Plain Local Schools.”

Mr. Adkins shared his excitement by stating, “I am beyond humbled by the opportunity to join team Glenwood in their pursuit of academic excellence. I look forward to building life-long relationships with students and staff alike, and cannot wait to get started!”

Jill Collet will expand her role in the curriculum department to lead our team as the Director of Curriculum K-12. Mr. May said, “Jill will lead the vision and organization of the curriculum team, and focus on the work ahead to continue the growth in academic achieve-

ment. I am excited to see her vision and influence on the school district.” Mrs. Collet added, “As a lifelong Golden Eagle, I am incredibly humbled to be given the opportunity to help lead the teaching and learning in Plain Local Schools.

I am privileged to work with a dedicated teaching staff and group of educational leaders who are experts in their field. I look forward to collaborating with them to promote learning for our students that will challenge and prepare them for their futures.”

Brett Niarchos who most recently served as principal of Glenwood Intermediate School will be joining the Central Office as a member of the curriculum department. Mr. Niarchos will be the point person for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). Mr. Niarchos will help in assisting Plain Local to meet the challenges and needs of all students.

When asked about this change Mr. Niarchos said, “I am extremely excited and humbled for this new opportunity and endeavor within Plain Local Schools. I look forward to working with and

supporting the Plain Local School District and community. I am extremely grateful for the time I spent with the Glenwood Intermediate School family and the many amazing relationships that I have made. I look forward to watching Ms. Williams lead Glenwood to the next level of greatness.”

Trisha Williams will be taking over as principal of Glenwood Intermediate School. Ms. Williams most recently served as principal at Barr Elementary as well as Assistant Principal at Oakwood Middle School. “Trish’s work at Barr Elementary has been outstanding and I look forward to watching her continue to lead and inspire students and staff each and every day,” said Mr. May. Ms. Williams said she is ready for the new challenge. “I’m thrilled to be joining the Glenwood Intermediate School family and to work with this amazing staff who have such a great passion for kids,” she said. “I am looking forward to being a part of all the incredible learning opportunities provided to the students, and to continue moving the

school forward with the excellence that is Glenwood Intermediate!”

Kortney Milford, current principal of Taft Elementary will expand her role and also serve as the director of preschool services for the Stark County Integrated Preschool program housed at Taft Elementary. The county preschool unit serves Plain Local families, and Mrs. Milford is excited to work to align the program and best serve all students PreK-4 attending Taft Elementary. “While serving as the Taft Principal for the last three years and having two children of my own recently attend the SCIP PreK program, I see first-hand the importance of a strong foundation for kids getting ready for Kindergarten,” she said. “By continuing to strengthen the partnership between the Stark County ESC and Plain Local Schools, we can greatly enhance our ability to serve the needs of our little eagles each day. I am passionate about early learning opportunities for kids, so I am ecstatic to formally expand my role to include our littlest learners!”

Beloved elementary art teacher, Mrs. Sarah Shumaker, wins statewide teaching award.

Shumaker Shines with Statewide Award Plain Local Schools is excited to share that Mrs. Sarah Shumaker, the art teacher for both Avondale and Middlebranch Elementary Schools, has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Ohio Art Education Association Advocate Award of Merit from the Ohio Art Education Association.

The association has this to

say, “This award acknowledges your dedication and commitment to supporting visual art education and art educators in a multitude of ways, including your use of social media as advocacy and your remarkable ideas and practical applications for implementing virtual learning during the pandemic.”

Mrs. Shumaker’s innovative practices allow her students at both schools to experience art in a multitude of ways. Mrs. Shumaker connects art to literature, math, science, history and more - making it meaningful to her students. We are very proud of her accomplishments and are happy that others outside of Plain have taken notice as well.

GlenOak Construction Trades Program Grows to Offer More to Students We are proud to announce that the GlenOak Construction Trades Program will partner with our Local #94 Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program for HVAC, plumbing, welding, pipefitting and much more.

Through career exploration and on-site training experiences, students will have the opportunity to work with professionals in the industry and field

to target their personal strengths and career development in the field of Construction Trades.

Students will have guest speakers, tours, mentorship opportunities, on-site job shadowing and exposure to the excellent JATC education center that may lead to a pre-apprenticeship experience and education facility enrollment.

We are excited to explore and design an excellent Construction Trades program that will provide our students with a clear and focused career path that will transition beyond high school. Knowing math facts is a fact of life! Fact fluency helps all of us to solve real-world math problems every day. At Frazer, students have the opportunity to be inducted into the Pro Division Hall of Fame once they have mastered all their facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

The Pro Division Hall of Fame has been in place since 2015. When a student is inducted, they receive a certificate, a medal and the sense of pride that goes along with such an accomplishment!

In addition, they are ac-

knowledged by the entire school and get to wear the coveted “Gold Jacket” as they pose for a picture that is hung in our Hall of Fame for all to see. Since its origination, eightyfive students in Grades 1-4 have been inducted.

(That’s right, students have even been inducted as 1st graders!). Eighteen of those joined during this past school year.

We are very proud of our young mathematicians and look forward to seeing who will join this elite group during the 20212022 school year!

Oakwood Implements Peer Mediation Program

Always looking for leadership opportunities for their students, Oakwood Middle School is excited to provide peer mediation services to their students this year. The student peer mediators were able to attend a half-day training session in August before the start of the school year. This program was made possible from a grant received from the Plain Local Schools Foundation and Alumni Association. The program will be utilized to

enforce a positive climate and culture at Oakwood Middle School. Also new this year in the halls of Oakwood Middle School, is new signage displayed in the main hallway with the “Pillars of Character”: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

This will serve as a great daily reminder to students and staff of the characteristics that embody our daily interactions with each other.

Kindness and More Growing at Barr Elementary!

The Barr Elementary 1/2 Blended classroom has been busy this summer planting, nurturing and harvesting vegetables in the Barr Elementary Kindness Garden. The class partnered with the Horticulture Department at GlenOak High School in the 2019 - 2020 school year to learn about seeds and plants. After receiving a grant and raising funds to plant vegetables, the students planted their first seeds in April 2021! The garden includes tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, zucchi-

ni, squash, carrots, radishes and onions, to name a few.

The families of the blended classroom have graciously volunteered to weed and water the garden throughout the summer. As a bonus, the families can pick any vegetables to enjoy!

Throughout the year, Barr Elementary PTO parent, Amy Post, heads the committee to keep the garden looking beautiful.

The class has also received help from a local Boy Scout troop.

Former principal Ms. Williams originated the Kindness Garden as an initiative to spread kindness throughout the building and community. Mrs. St. Clair, blended teacher, wanted to create this outdoor space as a learning

experience for students to take ownership of caring for the vegetables and learn to pay it forward to others in the community.

“I am very proud of my students and families for their dedication and support,” she said. The goal

is to expand the garden each year and add more raised beds to plant more vegetables. We applaud Mrs. St. Clair and the Barr Elementary families for their service in spreading kindness throughout the community!

Youth Sport Camps Offer Something for Everyone Summer is a chance to explore new things, get outside and move your body! We are thrilled that so many of our Little Eagles chose to participate in our summer youth sports camps. Over 300 students attended camps during June and July. Our team was hard at work this summer getting some new books ready for the 21-22 school year for our Elementary students! You might not realize that when a new book reaches your hands all of the people who were involved in getting it ready for you! Malone Opens Pioneer Park Malone University is celebrating the opening of Pioneer Park’s multipurpose competition field, which first opened for use at the beginning of August. Made possible by a generous gift from the Hoover Foundation, as well as friends and alumni of Malone, this lighted field with a synthetic turf surface, located adjacent to Route 62, will

host Pioneer soccer and Malone’s new men’s and women’s lacrosse program, as well as competitions in those sports at all levels. It will also serve as a training/recreation venue for intramural and youth sports, as well as a setting for concerts and other outdoor performances.

Book Club Plain Community Branch

School-based Services at Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (C&A) has been in existence for more than 20 years. In collaboration with Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Board (StarkMHAR), C&A provides mental health services to eight school districts within the county. Our school-based therapists are on-site at the school and readily available to assist students in need. School-based therapists provide services to both open clients as well as consultation clients. Students can be impacted both academically and socially when they are struggling with emotional or behavioral concerns. Teachers and staff may identify those students and refer them to C&A services. Having a therapist on-site to address concerns, in the moment, has shown to be effective and beneficial to increasing children’s success at school.

As a new school year approaches, it is important to prepare students, especially after going through a pandemic. This school year may look more normal than last year, but there could be some anxiety and stress with heading back to school. Some children will be returning to school for the first time after being taught virtually last school year.

Here are some techniques to help your child cope with back to school anxiety and stress after COVID-19: • Check in with your child frequently and listen to their concerns. Make sure to validate their emotions, letting them know their feelings and frustrations are understandable.

• Help your child focus on what they can control in the fight against the pandemic, such as keeping good hygiene and abiding by what rules will be in place in the fall (i.e., wearing a mask and practicing social distancing, if applicable).

• Ensure your child is getting enough sleep, being physically active and eating healthy food to support a healthy body and mind.

• Encourage your child to do more of what they enjoy most, whether reading, playing outside or other extracurricular activities such as sports or the arts.

Stark Parks Community Update

Fall is around the corner and some of our favorites are coming back, along with some new, fun ways to explore your Stark Parks! Start your adventures by taking the 300 Hours Outside Challenge – there’s still plenty of time and opportunities. It can be on-your-own, with some friends, or bring along the kids. Join us outside for some much-needed vitamin D! A tracker can be downloaded at StarkParks.com/300hours.

Trash to Treasure Art Upcycle Contest

Ranger for a Day Kids, put on your thinking cap and put your detective skills to the test on Sept.

Stark Parks Rangers will be there to greet our Rangers-in-training at safety stations and collect fun items to start their detective kits! Kids have the opportunity to try on ballistic vests and climb in ranger vehicles. They can take a shot in the shooting and archery ranges, and show off their

skills on the obstacle course! There’s also a junior detective trail to put their sleuthing to the test. All Junior Rangers will be rewarded with their own Ranger badge!

The Berkley Fishing Team will be on hand to teach fishing skills at the pond. Activities are available 1-4 p.m.

Most activities are geared towards ages 4-8 but can be enjoyed by anyone! At 4 p.m., everyone is invited to watch our favorite K-9 ranger, Gunnar, in action!

The Trash to Treasure Contest is back and Stark Parks is partnering with The Habitat for Humanity Restore, The Stark Tuscarawas Wayne Recycling District, Friends of Stark Parks and, new to 2021, Oceans Ohio, to hold a recycled art contest

for the community.

Kindergarten-aged artists to adults will showcase their talents while spreading that message of reducing, reusing and recycling everyday household items. We are looking for the most unique pieces of art made entirely of recycled items! Finalists for the contest will be selected by a panel of community judges. Artwork will be displayed during the month of

November at the Congressman Ralph Regula Canalway Center at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park. On November 20, at 11 a.m., there will be a brief ceremony at the Exploration Gateway to recognize the finalists and prize winners in the various categories. Restaurants of the Past Some of our best memories are rooted in food.

How many of your memories include visits to fast food chains? In Plain Township, Cleveland Ave NW north of 30th Street, was known for a variety of restaurants, most family owned. The shift to franchised restaurants began in the 1950s and 1960s, with the earliest known franchising being A&W Root Beer (1924) and Howard Johnsons (1935). This growth was fueled by two main reasons: (1) the rise of television advertising, establishing a brand and recognizable name across the country (2) the building of the national highway system which opened up the opportunity for people to travel to unfamiliar places and experience the same food as they did back home.

One of such chain was Roy Rogers. They served roast beef sandwiches and other items in a western style set-

ting. The Roy Rogers chain started out in 1967 as Robee’s House of Beef in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Marriott Corporation acquired the chain in order to expand their market presence with traveling families. During the acquisition, Arby’s sued Robee’s for trademark infringement prompting Marriott Corporation to change the direction of their new restaurant line. At this time, Marriott reached out to Roy Rogers, who was on TV and known for his western movies and TV shows, to license his name for the franchise. Roy, himself, made appearances at grand openings and other events. In 1990, Marriott decided to focus on the hotel aspect of their business and sold the franchise to Imasco, parent company of Hardee’s. Hardee’s then rebranded most of the Roy Rogers restaurant to Hardee’s, or sold off the property to other

chains. In 2003, the Roy Rogers chain was purchased from Hardee’s and was brought back to life. These restaurants are mainly on the East Coast now.

At 3104 Cleveland Ave NW, present site of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Robee’s chain was established around 1968 and never opened under that name. The

location was converted to a Roy Rogers and opened in 1968. You could get a roast beef sandwich, coleslaw and fries for 99 cents (or $6.84 in 2021!) Waitresses dressed as cowgirls and the restaurants carried out the western theme in the menu items and décor. Menu items included a Texan sandwich (ham), roast

beef, fries, coleslaw, milkshakes, steerburger, Chuck Wagon chicken treat and Rodeo chicken dinner. The chain sponsored kid’s movie night, a kid’s bowling team and a Holly Hills sandlot team. Roy Royers was short lived, and closed in 1970.

New Transportation App! Versatrans My Stop® allows parents to track their students’ bus location and arrival times, as well as receive notifications on delays, breakdowns, and other pertinent information.

To offer families utilizing busing access to the latest and most accurate transportation schedule, the Transportation Department maintains a website where parents may check pick-up and drop-off locations.

We encourage you to check the site using the instructions below to verify that the pick-up and drop-off locations for your child/children are accurate. If you do not have access to a computer, please call the Plain Transportation office at 330492-1918 and we will be happy to assist you over the phone.

Important Reminders:

Follow the instructions below to get started:

• There may be two busses in your neighborhood transporting students. Please be sure that your student is getting on the correct bus.

• We apologize for delays the first few weeks of school as students and drivers adjust to new routines, we appreciate your patience!

• Please note: At the beginning of the school year pick-up and drop-off may be delayed. Please be patient and have your students at the assigned bus stop ten minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time.

The bus garage will have extended hours from 5:00am to 7:00pm the first weeks of school. Please call the bus garage at 330-492-1918 with any questions.

STEP 1: Downloading the Versatrans My Stop® App: Scan the QR code above to download the app or follow these steps: Type “Versatrans My Stop” into the search field in the App Store (for Apple users) or Play Store (for Android Users) - Select Versatrans My Stop and click download.

STEP 2: Logging In: Your username and password are the same as your Versatrans e-Link username and password, both are your student’s first and last name ALL UPPERCASE in the format below: FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME Username: FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME | Password: FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME STEP 3: Navigating the Map Page: After logging in you will arrive at the Map section. Here you will see your student’s bus location and the estimated time of arrival. If you have multiple students riding buses, there is an arrow with a dropdown menu that allows you to switch between your students.

Remember if the bus is not on the route, you will not be able to see its location.

STEP 4: Navigating the Scans and Setup Pages: The Scans page shows the time and location your students scanned on or off the vehicle. Also shown here are their bus number and route name. A popup will appear when your student scans onto or off of the bus. The Setup page allows for different notifications to be turned to on or off. We recommend all notifications be turned on, as this will allow you to receive the most up-todate information from the bus and the transportation department. You can also log out from the Setup page. Please note, if you are not logged into the application, you will not receive notifications to your smartphone.

STEP 5: Understanding Notifications: The transportation department is now able to communicate bus delays and other information directly through Versatrans My Stop. Notifications can be sent to specific students or to all students in the district. These notifications will popup immediately if you are in the application; if you do not have the application open, yet you are logged in, you will see the notification show up similar to how other notifications show up on your smartphone.
