SEPTEMBER

2026

SHANAH TOVAH FROM PJCC As summer begins to shift toward fall, the Jewish calendar enters Elul, the month leading up to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which happens this September 11-13. Traditionally, this is a time to pause, take stock, and think about how we want to enter the year ahead. At the PJCC, you may notice signs of the season around the Center: apples and honey, round challah, pomegranates, holiday displays, and other symbols connected to renewal and reflection. Jewish holidays are part of the rhythm of life here, and we hope these visible traditions offer a window into the values and stories that shape our community. Whether or not you are Jewish, this season offers a useful question: What would you like to carry forward into the year ahead, and what are you ready to leave behind? Shanah Tovah u'Metukah—a good and sweet year for each of you! Rabbi Laurie Matzkin Chief Jewish Experience Officer

TRY SOMETHING NEW: BRAIN TRAINING Looking for a new way to keep your mind sharp? Brain training is a simple habit with real payoff, and Mind Atlas™ is a great way to get started. Free for PJCC members, it tracks your cognitive trajectory over time instead of just giving you a score—building a personal brain baseline from quick check-ins on memory, attention, and focus. It's one of the many ways our Center for Healthy Longevity (CHL) supports fitness, brain health, and social connection as you age. Ready to start? Explore Mind Atlas and all of CHL at pjcc.org/chl.

Reminder: Our indoor pool will be temporarily closed for resurfacing September 1 – October 31, reopening November 1 with a brand-new surface. Thanks for your patience. The heated outdoor pool will remain open. During this time, swim lessons will be held outdoors, at a reduced rate. Contact the Aquatics office for more information. Questions? Email aquatics@pjcc.org, call 650.378.2782, or stop by the Welcome Center.
