Business aviation in the Middle East is experiencing robust growth, driven by rising demand for private travel, expanding high-net-worth populations, and strategic investments in aviation infrastructure. The region has emerged as a key player in the global business aviation landscape, with countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey leading the charge.

As of 2025, the Middle East and Africa business jet market is valued at approximately USD 1.42 billion, with projections indicating it could reach USD 2.14 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.5%. This growth is fueled by a combination of factors, including post-pandemic shifts toward private travel, increased corporate and government demand for executive transport, and the region’s strategic geographic location connecting East and West.

Flight activity has surged across the region. Between September 2023 and September 2024, the UAE recorded nearly 15,917 private jet departures, a 230% increase over five years. Saudi Arabia followed closely with 14,054 flights (+144%), while Turkey led in volume with 28,428

flights (+106%). Qatar and Israel also saw significant growth, with Qatar experiencing a 240% increase in private jet activity.

The regional fleet is dominated by large-cabin, long-range jets as these aircraft are well-suited to the long-haul travel needs of Middle Eastern clients, many of whom frequently travel to Europe, Asia, and North America.

The charter market is particularly dynamic, with increasing adoption of digital platforms that enable on-demand booking, fractional ownership, and AI-powered scheduling. This has made business aviation more accessible to a broader range of users, including small and medium-sized enterprises and affluent travelers seeking flexibility and privacy.

Excitement is building in the business aviation industry as Bombardier is on track for the entry-into-service of what will be the fastest civilian jet since the Concorde, the incomparable ultra-long-range Global 8000 business jet.

As production continues, pilots in the Global 8000 Flight Test Vehicle (FTV) have reported remarkable responsiveness and high-speed performance due to increased thrust at higher speeds, as well as the best field performance in its class thanks to its unique wing design. The Global 8000 is also the first purpose-built business jet to break the sound barrier during testing and is the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde. PRIORITIZING PASSENGER WELLNESS The Global 8000 builds on a proven track record while raising the bar on passenger wellness.

Passengers will arrive at their destination refreshed and relaxed, thanks to an internal cabin altitude of 2,900 feet when flying at 41,000 feet. Additionally, Bombardier’s Pũr Air system with advanced hospital-grade HEPA filter technology ensures fast fresh air replacement as well as heating and cooling for maximum passenger comfort.

The Global 8000’s stunning cabin also boasts a host of notable features including the industry’s first 55-inch 4K OLED TV, Bombardier’s l’Opéra audio system with adjustable sweet spot technology, Soleil circadian-based cabin lighting system, and available sound synchronization for an immersive lightshow. Cabin control and connectivity are accessed at the touch of a button, through the intuitive NICE Touch cabin management system (CMS) and OLED touch dial – another industry first.

By leveraging Rosen’s unique, cutting-edge technologies with Sky-Style’s bold, contemporary design, all brought to life by KiPcreating’s lifelike 3D visualization, the Maverick cabin was a game-changing vision that is both sought after and imitated since its original release five years ago.

A conversation with Lucas Colombo Carbone Design Director & Co-Founder at Sky-Style Yacht & Aviation Design

Sky-Style is a design studio focused on advanced aviation conceptual design, aimed at bringing innovative vision to redesign the executive aviation world.

Working with aviation giants such as Boeing, Sky-Style has been at the forefront of executive interior design and continues to test the boundaries of what’s possible in an aircraft cabin.

My career began in automotive design, where I worked with Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design in Europe. For over 18 years, I focused on shaping vehicle aesthetics before founding Sky-Style in 2018. Sky-Style specializes in aviation and yacht interiors. I’m also the founder of the Advanced Design Innovation Studio, which focuses on automotive and product design. My team and I draw inspiration from both industries, merging technical precision with artistic storytelling.

How did you approach shaping the Maverick’s concept into a self-explanatory experience?

Design is about storytelling; The key is crafting a timeless aesthetic rooted in emotional resonance. It’s not just about styling or engineering—it’s the balance of art and technology. It’s important to highlight that advanced concepts require a different approach compared to customer-specific projects where guidelines already exist.

For Maverick, we defined core values first, then shaped the design to reflect them visually.

What sets the Maverick project apart is its seamless technology integration. How did you ensure electronic components became a natural part of the interior rather than add-ons?

That was one of our biggest challenges. Traditional aircraft interiors often treat technology as separate modules.

Instead, Maverick incorporates electronic elements into the materials and forms themselves. The speakers, for instance, are embedded in the seats, creating immersive soundscapes without external components. Similarly, cabin management systems are integrated rather than merely plugged in.

Another feature was the rotating OLED screen within the headrest. At the press of a button, the screen emerges, offering a private display for each passenger. This approach maintains a sleek aesthetic while enhancing comfort.

And while the Maverick concept retains conventional windows, an alternative version integrates full-screen side panels, offering passengers customizable environments from serene landscapes to futuristic displays. We also have now OLED screen technology capable of transparency that could bridge the gap between traditional windows and immersive technology.

What aircraft size formed the basis of this concept?

The Maverick Project is designed for an ultra-long-range cabin, similar in size to a Gulfstream G600 or G650 fuselage tube, with the added adaptability to accommodate smaller aircraft as well. The design would also require some adjustments if scaled up to a larger bizliner, such as an Airbus ACJ or Boeing BBJ, but the core principles would remain intact.

The interior concept featured three distinct zones, starting with an elegant galley area at the entrance. This led to the creation of a dynamic seating area that incorporated cutting-edge technology. The design philosophy prioritized a seamless user experience, one that was minimalistic yet infused with interactive features.

Looking ahead, where do you see aviation design evolving, particularly with projects like Maverick?

I believe that we are reaching the limits of traditional aircraft tubes. Future designs will explore blended-wing configurations, larger integrated spaces, and advanced

interactive environments. As business aircraft manufacturers continue to explore new innovations.

The Maverick concept philosophy will highly influence the development of new aircraft designs.

Bringing new design ideas to aviation comes with regulatory challenges. How do you see Maverick transitioning from concept to reality?

The key is collaboration between designers, OEMs, and regulators. Rosen Aviation is continuously refining its skylight screens, making them thinner and more adaptable.

Within five years, I believe we’ll see major advancements.

Given Maverick’s heavy reliance on screens, how do you address issues like glare and readability?

Rosen Aviation has addressed this by refining screen partitions and developing OLED panels specifically designed for curved surfaces. Upcoming advancements will provide glare-free clarity while maintaining visibility in varying lighting conditions.

Customers seeking a premium option for long-haul private travel can now choose the newest model of the iconic 747 family with a modern VIP interior, At this year’s NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, Boeing announced the launch of its new 747-8 VIP turnkey offering, Boeing will provide a full-spectrum concierge service that includes aircraft acquisition, customized cabin interior design and build, delivery and comprehensive in-service support.

The world’s largest VIP airplane, the 747-8, features nearly 5,000 square feet of premium cabin space that can be designed and completed with oversight of a dedicated team under a single Boeing contract. The Boeing 747-8 VIP can fly 75 passengers with a range of 8,500 nautical miles, providing nonstop connections from New York to Bangkok and Dubai to Los Angeles.

“The 747-8 continues to serve as a premier VIP and head of state aircraft and discerning customers are interested in continuing this tradition of excellence in private air travel,” said Joe Benson, president of Boeing Business Jets. “We’re thrilled to continue this legacy with the Boeing-backed 747-8 VIP – delivering a personalized and exceptional flying experience.”

Nearly 50 747-8s are in service today, including those used for business and government travel. The 747-8 Intercontinental features advanced technologies from the 787 Dreamliner that reduce its noise footprint, fuel consumption and maintenance compared to earlier 747 models.

With a global service network of services, parts, engineering and maintenance support, Boeing will ensure the reliable operation of 747-8 VIP aircraft for decades to come.

These jets promise cutting-edge design and technology straight from the assembly line. However, this route often comes with significant drawbacks, including notoriously long waiting periods due to the limited availability of new narrow-body bizliner feedstock, such as the Airbus ACJ319neo and ACJ320neo and Boeing BBJ Max7 and Max8 aircraft. But these restrictions are now causing astute buyers to turn to another ownership route that offers several advantages: customising a pre-owned bizliner. This option is frequently overlooked or dismissed due to misconceptions about the potential of pre-owned aircraft and the possibility of making a bad investment.

Tom Chatfield, CEO of Camber Aviation Management, champions this option, drawing from decades of experience in aircraft completions. He believes that buying preowned not only circumvents many drawbacks associated with new aircraft purchases but also opens up a world of customisation and value that is hard to match. Here, he offers his perspective on the advantages and possibilities that come with a pre-owned, large-cabin jet and explores how you can transform a pre-owned bizliner into your dream aircraft.

Market Overview The market for new large-cabin business jets, often referred to as “bizliners,” particularly the Boeing BBJ Max and Airbus ACJ Neo, is marked by high demand and scarce availability. These aircrafts, based on commercial airliners, are delivered without a cabin and not painted, often appearing in the distinctive green of fuselage primer—which is why they are referred to as “green aircraft.” The high demand primarily stems from airliners clamouring for new aircraft in the post-COVID economic recovery, which results in extended waiting periods that can stretch for years. This forces potential owners to either put their aspirations on hold or settle for less-than-ideal solutions, often with limited customisation options that compromise on their needs and personal taste.

Tom explains, "A new Boeing 737 BBJ Max8, for instance, has a 2024 list price of $82.5 million. When you factor in the cabin completion costs which can range from $30 to $35 million, the total expense can reach somewhere around $120 million. It’s a hefty investment for an aircraft that won’t be delivered for several years."

In contrast, opting for a pre-owned jet offers a more attractive alternative. Not only does it significantly reduce the waiting period, but it also lowers the overall investment while providing the freedom to customise extensively according to personal preferences.

Benefits of Pre-Owned Aircraft The appeal of buying a brand-new bizliner is undeniable; however, the practical benefits of choosing a pre-owned aircraft often outweigh the initial appeal of a new purchase.

Tom Chatfield breaks down these advantages, providing a compelling case for considering pre-owned options. ` Immediate Availability: "One of the most significant benefits of going pre-owned is the immediacy of availability," explains Tom. "Unlike new jets, which require years from order to delivery, pre-owned aircraft can be acquired and made ready for use in a fraction of the time. This is a crucial factor for buyers who need to meet tight schedules or who prefer not to have capital tied up in long-term manufacturing processes." ` Cost-Effectiveness: Consider a well cared for, preowned BBJ2, which can cost between $20 million and $30 million. If the existing cabin layout aligns with the buyer’s preferences, a comprehensive refresh could be

achieved with an additional investment of only $4 to $5 million. This means you can purchase a bespoke aircraft for significantly less than the cost of a new Gulfstream G650, but with four times the floor space. ` Customisation Opportunities: "Buying pre-owned offers unprecedented customisation options," says Tom. "New jets are delivered with essentially an empty cabin, allowing the owner and the designer to develop a cabin that is fully customised to reflect their requirements and sense of style (provided, of course, that the design can be certificated!) With a pre-owned jet, you can still redesign the interior to fit your exact specifications and desire. However, retaining the original layout but incorporating new finishes and materials can dramatically transform a dated cabin into an entirely new, modern masterpiece—at a fraction of the cost. ` Reduced Overall Investment: "The initial outlay and the ongoing costs of owning a pre-owned jet are considerably lower than those associated with new jets," Tom points out. "This includes not only the purchase and retrofit costs but also potentially lower insurance premiums, depending on the aircraft’s condition and history. However, it’s important to note that maintenance costs can increase as the aircraft ages, which is an essential factor to consider when budgeting for the long-term ownership of a pre-owned jet."

While the advantages of purchasing a pre-owned bizliner - such as cost savings, customisation potential, and immediate availability - are compelling, the process can appear daunting to those new to the world of private aviation.

Tom notes: "You wouldn’t buy a house without assessing its foundation and potential for renovation; the same principle applies to buying a jet. It is essential that candidate aircraft be thoroughly inspected and their historical and maintenance documents reviewed to establish the condition of the aircraft. This thorough scrutiny ensures that the buyer can negotiate favourable purchase agreement terms."

MODIFIED AIRLINERS Bizliners are commercial airliners modified for a lower passenger count usage in business aviation missions. They are mainly used for government transportation including head-of-state (~45% of the market), private including corporate operations (~40%), and charter operations (~15%).

Since most regional and narrow-body ranges are fuel limited at lower payload, OEMs or completion centers will certify Auxiliary Fuel Tanks (ACT) installation on these jets to increase their range capability.

Boeing in collaboration with General Electric launched Boeing Business Jets in 1996 followed by Airbus who entered the market in 1997 with the launch of Airbus Corporate Jets business unit.

Bizliners have a large number of benefits in comparison with purpose-built business jets, notably their large cabin and baggage capability but also some drawbacks in terms of performance, mission capabilities, and versatility.

COMPLETION CENTERS In contrast to purpose-built business jets that are delivered ready for operations straight from aircraft OEMs. Bizliners are delivered unpainted, with only a green primer application, hence known as ‘green’. (generally) not painted with only a green primer application. The interior is literally empty and requires design and outfitting at a completion center.

Completion centers often offer customized interior design, engineering, and certification of the interior outfitting and additional modifications such as airstairs, connectivity, in-flight entertainment systems, and even airborne protection systems for government and VVIP aircraft.

Completion centers will also perform the interior installation and final certification. Completion centers also specialise in bizliners in-service maintenance and follow-on cabin retrofits.

Bizliners offer the ultimate customization opportunity for having a jet crafted absolutely down to the last detail in accordance with customers’ needs.

Interior designers will design the optimum cabin through a thorough understanding of client needs, cultural requirements, and expectations. Although most completion centers offer their internal design team, independent interior designers are often hired by customers or completion centers.

These independent interior designers will not only bring their experience in aviation but also from other luxury markets such as yachts, luxury residences, and high-end hotel designs.

Although the completion process may seem complex, customers can rely on completion managers who will work closely with the interior designer and completion center, to transition design intent into a cabin that is comfortable, functional, and reliable, and then oversee the entire outfitting process to ensure that client expectations, budget and quality standards are met.

In February 2025, Gulfstream announced the production of the final G650 ultra-long range business jet. Can you provide us with more details about the size and utilization of the in-service fleet?

Today there are nearly 600 Gulfstream G650 and G650ER in service around the world. The fleet has amassed more than 1,250,000 flight hours and 469,000 landings and achieved more than 135 city-pair speed records.

These aircraft are part of more than 3,300 total Gulfstream aircraft in service, a fleet that includes the super-midsize Gulfstream G280 and a next-generation family of aircraft including the category-leading Gulfstream G400, the award-winning Gulfstream G500 and Gulfstream G600, the ultra-cabin Gulfstream G700 and the ultralong-range Gulfstream G800.

Since it entered service in 2012, the G650 has been a true game-changer in the industry. Can you provide us with a quick summary of some of the achievements it brought to the industry in terms of performance, comfort, efficiency, and sustainability?

Standard Block 3 features include: ` New advanced graphics modules providing four times the terrain resolution and enhanced gamma-correct color sets ` Night Mode charts ` New Synthetic Vision System display options and improved graphics on primary flight display (PFD) ` Communication Management Function (CMF) version 3.1, providing improved performance and alerting options The G650 and G650ER helped pave the way for the business aviation industry by setting new standards for safety, size, speed and range. When the G650 was introduced, it created an entirely new class – the ultra-high-speed, ultra-long-range, ultra-large-cabin business aircraft. The G650 also laid the groundwork for Gulfstream’s next-generation fleet with new safety enhancements, flight deck technologies and advanced cabin comfort – among its many industry firsts, the G650 also debuted the largest windows in business aviation, now an iconic standard on the G400, G500, G600, G700 and G800.

Some of this aircraft’s highest achievements include setting a record for the farthest, fastest business jet flight in history; receiving the prestigious Robert J. Collier Trophy, which recognized the G650 for performance, safety and efficiency advancements; and serving as the platform for the industry’s first flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel.

In 2023, Gulfstream introduced the Honeywell Primus Epic Block 3 upgrade for the G650 and G650ER. Can you walk us through some of the features introduced with this avionics upgrade?

The Block 3 avionics upgrade for the G650 and G650ER offers pilots even more tools to help make informed safety decisions during all phases of flight.

The enhancements include multiple new and improved features that build upon existing Gulfstream PlaneView II flight deck visual, communication, alerting and navigation systems.

` Localizer Performance (LP) approaches with reduced minima over LNAV approaches where localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV) is not available ` ADS-B In Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) for airborne or qualified ground operations ` More than 1,500 enhancements to the next-generation Flight Management System ` Access to the baggage compartment up to 45,000 feet Optional features include: ` Situational Awareness package that includes both 2D and 3D airport moving maps (AMM), ADS-B In Visual Separation on Approach and enhanced Synthetic Vision System symbology ` Award-winning Predictive Landing Performance System that includes integration of Honeywell’s Runway Overrun Awareness & Alerting System

Whatever the scale of a redesign project, we ensure every customer receives a service experience that is convenient and customized to meet their needs.

In 2021, Gulfstream introduced an enhanced cabin redesign program for in-service aircraft, ranging from a simple refresh to a complete floorplan reconfiguration. Can you provide more details on this offering and how popular it is with Gulfstream’s operators?

Gulfstream’s aircraft redesign program offers a multitude of customizable options – from a simple carpet replacement or a soft materials refresh to more extensive projects, including new connectivity and cabin management systems. Our program empowers customers to choose a refurbishment plan that best suits their needs.

Customers have the option to work with a dedicated Gulfstream interior designer and the added benefit of visiting one of Gulfstream’s design showrooms where they are able to look over and choose from thousands of materials, leathers, fabrics, carpets, lighting, woods and metals to create a unique and customized interior. Gulfstream continues investing in its service network with the opening of a new facility in Mesa, Arizona, earlier this year. Can you give us an overview of the current service network footprint and capabilities?

In the past 10 years, Gulfstream has made significant investments to create the industry’s most modernized service network to accommodate Gulfstream’s rapidly growing next-generation fleet, while also continuing to support the legacy fleet still flying around the world.

Today, Gulfstream’s network has more than 80 locations worldwide (including partners) consisting of 11 company-owned service centers; six sister-company Jet Aviation factory authorized service centers; 27 authorized warranty facilities; 24 forward-deployed global FAST bases; and 12 spares distribution locations.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel, SAF - is any next-generation aviation fuel made from 100% approved sustainable sources such as used cooking oil, organic waste, residue raw materials, forestry or agriculture waste...etc ​

CARBON FOOTPRINT ASSESSMENT​ A sustainability program requires first a solid assessment of the operation’s carbon footprint. It is better to report total gallons of fuel used rather than simply report aircraft hours flown to maximize integrity.

CARBON OFFSETTING PROGRAMS​ Offsets are generated through carbon credits from projects that reduce or avoid carbon emissions, such as reforestation projects and renewable energy initiatives.​ Project examples include helping make the transition from fossil-based power generation to renewable sources and projects like the protection of existing forests or starting new ones.​

Through its production life cycle, SAF highly reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to fossil fuel and can be used as a direct replacement (drop-in) for fossil jet fuel as it is chemically similar.​SAF has the potential to reduce net CO2 lifecycle emissions by more than 80% compared to the conventional jet fuel production life cycle.​The current issues with SAF is its higher pricing, the limited availability and logistical challenges. That can be solved through Book-and-Claim solutions as they effectively transfer sustainability claims to final customers.​

​AIRCRAFT EFFICIENCY​ Newer generation, more efficient aircraft can make a large contribution to reducing carbon and non-carbon emissions together with the reduction in the noise footprint. O ​ ver time the improvement rate in business jet engines Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) average roughly 1% per year.​ In addition to aircraft manufacturers continuous aircraft improvement program, third party solutions exist to improve aircraft performance and operational efficiency such as in-service retrofit winglets. ​
