Hi, my name is Jack! I live on a farm with Dad, Mum, my sister Sal, little brother Tommy and Meg the sheepdog. I can help out with all kinds of jobs.

I just love being a farmer in training.

He had the farm at his feet and sun on his back,

There was no better place in the world, for Jack.

Jack collected the eggs and fed the chickens, The cat pawed through the yard, along with her kittens.

As Jack wistfully thought of the slow day ahead, He was stirred from dreaming by a squeal

of dread.

from the kitchen,

‘Look out, Jack! Look out!’

There were sheep in the garden, munching about.

The roses and pansies were chewed up at once,

Their beady eyes searched for a new treat for lunch.

He had never seen Mum grow so purple and cross, As her flowers were gobbled up, loss upon loss.

The sheep weren’t bothered – they enjoyed this rare chance, And lazily chomped through another few plants.

Jack had seen this before – the problems sheep bring, They can be stubborn and silly and do just the wrong thing.

His mum grew more cross with the great woolly eaters, And shouted to Jack to chase out the bleaters!

“Remember, I’m a farmer, just wait and see!”

‘Oh no!’ thought Jack. He was really downbeat.

You can’t be a farmer without your boots on your feet!

Where were they hiding? He was about to give up, When the wellies appeared – what a stroke of luck!

He would need to fetch Meg – she would help without fail, Meg let out a yelp and wagged her keen tail.

Jack rushed to the garden but was stopped in his tracks, The garden was a mess of chewed flowers and grass.

He got there too late and felt rather dejected, The sheep had all gone! It was quite unexpected.

Then he heard bleating from in the next field, He spotted his sister – the truth was revealed.

Sal was triumphant. She seemed fit to burst.
