“I am the new Assistant Principal at Pius XI. I serve students, families, faculty, and staff in several capacities with some of my primary responsibilities in the areas of Academic Interventions, Counseling, Assessments, Title Services, and Special Studies.”

Why Pius XI? What drew you and your family to want to be here?

“Before stepping into this new role, I was already a member of the Pius XI community as a parent. My husband and I chose Pius XI for our daughter three years ago because we value the student diversity and the “Pius XI Vibe” that enables children to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe environment.”

How have your previous experiences helped you become successful in your role here?

“My previous service in the public school system included roles as a regular and special education teacher, mentor of new and aspiring teachers, professional development facilitator, and designated teacher in-charge. I evaluated children with suspected special education needs and helped lead school intervention teams. Additionally, I worked for a local university and supervised undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student teachers. All of these experiences, spanning 22 years, have contributed to my ability to successfully serve as the Assistant Principal at Pius XI.”

How have you helped facilitate the development of students at Pius XI?

“As a member of Pius XI’s Leadership Team, I assist in developing strategic plans to improve teaching and learning. In my role, I specifically focus on supporting students’ academic growth and development.”

Are there any programs or initiatives that you’re proud of since starting at Pius XI?

“Upon my arrival in July, I began working to redesign the policy of academic probation for students who are not meeting Pius XI’s academic expectations. The goal of the redesign was to more effectively identify barriers to student performance and progress and then to layer needed supports to aid improvement and success. The new policy, which begins with intervention, will continue to evolve to provide additional layers of support to our students.”

What do you enjoy most about working at Pius XI? What makes this experience unique for students and staff, in your opinion?

“I love the students and my daily interactions with them! We truly are blessed to work with really great kids in our community. I also enjoy working with the staff and faculty here. The diversity of our student body is one factor that contributes to the unique experience that is Pius XI. I am not speaking solely of ethnic diversity. Our students are diverse in so many ways, and their unique personalities, talents, and gifts make our community special. That doesn’t mean there aren’t challenges and everything is perfect; no school is without its challenges. We have work to do. We are committed. The students here at Pius XI will help lead the way, and I’m here to support them.”
