THE VOICE OF BLAKE SHELTON TO FILL CONSOL ENERGY CENTER By: Pam Thompson

Blake Shelton, five-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year and a coach on The Voice, brings his new tour to Pittsburgh this season.

It is Shelton’s first concert at CONSOL Energy Center. Local fans get the last show of the tour in March before the artist begins a string of festival performances through spring and summer.

“Man, I’m just so excited about 2016,” Shelton says, “I can’t wait to get back out on the road and play some music for my fans. As an artist, my favorite thing to do is go on the road and play shows. I’ve missed it, and it’s gonna be like old times.”

Shelton, who has more than two dozen gold and platinum singles and albums to his credit, released a new album, Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits last October.

The compilation documents Shelton’s 15-year career from early tunes like “Austin” and “Some Beach” to his recent work, “Sangria” and “Gonna.”

“Sangria” is his 20th No. 1 song and his 15th consecutive single to achieve that status — a feat unmatched by any other artist. Released last April, it was certified Gold by the RIAA last June. By October, 744,000 copies of the tune had sold in the U.S. It was Shelton’s third single from his ninth studio album, Bringing Back the Sunshine.

“I’m always looking for that song that gets me excited and the fans excited and ‘Sangria’ is that song,” says Shelton. “It’s different than what I’ve done in the past and it doesn’t sound like anything else on the radio.”

The bonus song on Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits, “Gonna” became Shelton’s 21st No. 1 single last November when it topped the Canadian Country chart. In the U.S., 124,000 copies of the song were sold by November 2015.

Shelton says that he looks up to Earl Thomas Conley, Travis Tritt, Ronnie Milsap and Conway Twitty.

“These guys never went through the motions when it came to laying down a vocal,” Shelton says.

In regard to bringing freshness to his music, the country singer says, “If there was one artist I wanted to mold my career and my catalog after, it would be Conway Twitty. Once you thought you had him figured out, he would come out with another kind of song. He would reinvent himself. Reba [McEntire] does that, and the Hall-of-Fame songwriter Bobby Braddock.”

He continues, “And it’s not for the sake of staying on top at radio, it’s more that I want to do something new for my own sanity. It would be easy to keep recording the same three-chord country songs forever, but I want to hear something fresh. I want to push the boundaries like my heroes did.”

Shelton’s discography supports that idea. Consider some of his Billboard Hot 100 successes: from the dramatic “Austin,” his first single in 2001, to the sophistication of “Home” in 2008, the upbeat fun of “Hillbilly Bone,” in 2009, and the romantic “Honey Bee,” in 2011.

Of his successful repertoire, Shelton says, “The only common thread I’ve found is there are a lot of songs about guys trying to pick up girls. I’ve said it many times — I’ve always been obsessed with that song ‘The Chair’ that Dean Dillon wrote for George Strait, and the whole song was a pickup line. I look now at my history and I probably didn’t realize it but I was always gearing that way — romantic, fun and so country. A lot of my songs fit the bill: ‘Sure Be Cool If You Did, ‘Honey Bee,’ ‘Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,’ ‘Sangria,’ ‘Lonely Tonight,’ ‘My Eyes.’”

He explains, “‘The Baby’ is probably the most underrated, and that’s partly my fault because I don’t do it in concert anymore. The song is so heavy and there’s no happy ending, but I think that really opened some eyes at radio because ‘Austin’ was such a big record, and to have ‘The Baby’ be such an impact song let them know I wasn’t a one-hit wonder.” “‘Hillbilly Bone,’ believe it or not, because my career was changing and going to the next level. That was when I first started getting nominated for awards. Trace [Adkins] and I won some CMA and ACM awards and then I got nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year. That kind of established me as someone who wasn’t going away.” “‘Boys ‘Round Here.’ Sometimes the driving force behind a hit can be you as a celebrity, but that was such a huge record it became its own thing.

It was this big, fun, stupid, ridiculous anthem that was bigger than who I was and that’s when the scales really tipped. When that song came out and all the stuff that was going on with the show [The Voice] and just the momentum I had in my career, that one was the huge giant firecracker at the end of the fireworks show.”

Shelton returned to The Voice last September for the popular show’s 9th season. A perennial coach for the singing contest which launched in 2011, Shelton had three performers in the Top 10 by the end of last November.

In four of the first eight seasons, his protégés have won the competitions.

He says, “I never could have foreseen the power of what The Voice did for me,” he says, “most importantly, just getting people to pay attention to my music. From that point on, we haven’t looked back.”

Shelton says, “One of the reasons The Voice has been so good to me is that I’ve been exposed to so much music I would never have heard, would never even have cared to hear. But once I was forced to listen to it, I found out I do love all kinds of music I never thought I would be into. It’s awesome.”

Assessing himself, Shelton says: “I’ve managed to fit in musically, although I don’t know that I could say I’ve pushed things forward. Time will tell on that score. But when all is said and done, maybe the biggest impact I’ve had on the music industry in Nashville is on the personality front. Artists were media trained to where they were almost afraid to be themselves for fear they’d offend somebody. There were a lot of artists we never knew much about except that they sang these songs. We’re not running for office here and I didn’t want to be that. I wanted to be like Dean Martin and guys like that. I didn’t want to be afraid to be myself and say what I’m thinking, because what do you really hope to accomplish by blending in?”

A member of the Grand Ole Opry, Shelton has hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards annually from 2010 through last year.

His ACM Awards include Song of the Year in 2013 for “Over You” with Miranda Lambert, the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award in 2013, Male Vocalist of the Year in 2012, and Vocal Event of the Year in 2010 for “Hillbilly Bone” with Adkins.

The performer was the American Music Awards Favorite Country Male Artist in 2014. LOST AND FOUND

Accessible spaces are available in the parking garage adjacent to CONSOL Energy Center. Parking is first-come, first-served and spaces are limited. An early arrival is strongly recommended.

Accessible seating is available on all levels for all events at CONSOL Energy Center.

ENTRANCES AND EXITS There are four (4) points of entry into CONSOL Energy Center: Peoples Gate (Fifth Avenue and Washington Place), Trib Total Media Gate (Centre Avenue Lower Entrance), Verizon Gate (Centre Avenue Upper Entrance), and a private parking garage entrance for suite ticket holders.

FIRST AID There are two (2) First Aid Stations presented by UPMC, one on each level of CONSOL Energy Center. First Aid is located adjacent to the Guest Services office outside section 104 and behind the concession stand at section 232.

PROHIBITED ITEMS Bags, back packs, air horns, coolers (hard/ soft sided), thermoses, large purses, cans, bottles, flasks, alcoholic beverages, laser pointers, video or audio recording devices, professional cameras/lens, tripods, banners or signs on poles, weapons or any other items deemed dangerous and/or inappropriate are strictly prohibited.

Small purses, camera cases, binocular cases and diaper bags will be permitted, however, all items that do not pass security must be returned to vehicles.

SOLICITATION The distribution of promotional items, handbills, flyers, pamphlets, printed materials, as well as the solicitation of signatures, is not permitted on CONSOL Energy Center property without proper authorization from management.

TAG-A-KID In the event a parent and child might be separated at a CONSOL Energy Center event, parents can register their child with the Tag-A-Kid program. A wristband with the parent’s seat location and contact number will be given to the child. Registration is available at the Guest Services office located outside section 104.

VIDEO CAMERAS Use of video or audio recording equipment is strictly prohibited. CONSOL Energy Center reserves the right to confiscate any tape or film and remove the patron from the building.

WHEELCHAIRS A limited number of wheelchairs are available for transporting guests that are disabled to their seating location. Guests can be transported from the gates to their seats. If a wheelchair is needed for the duration of the event, guests must supply their own wheelchairs. Wheelchairs cannot be reserved in advance. Upon arrival, guests can arrange for a wheelchair at any entrance of CONSOL Energy Center. Please see a CONSOL Energy Center employee to assist with wheelchair transportation.

WILL CALL Tickets ordered or prepaid can be picked up at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Box Office, located in the lobby of the Trib Total Media Gate. Will Call windows open one (1) hour prior to events and patrons must present valid photo identification and the credit card of record when picking up tickets.

The Storyteller Tour – Stories in the Round, brings the sensational Carrie Underwood to Pittsburgh this winter with special guests Easton Corbin and The Swon Brothers.

A member of the Grand Ole Opry, Underwood first performed at CONSOL Energy Center in November 2012 on her Blown Away Tour. She was at the top of her game then, and her career continues to flourish.

The new concert tour is being presented in the round, equalizing the experience for fans throughout the arena.

Underwood has arranged for a donation of $1 from each ticket sold at the tour’s U.S. concerts to be contributed to the C.A.T.S. Foundation in her hometown, Checotah, Oklahoma.

Her 2016 tour supports her fifth studio album, Storyteller, released last October.

Rolling Stone called it “the most anticipated country album of the year.”

Produced by Jay Joyce, Mark Bright, and Zach Crowell, six of its 13 songs were co-written

by Underwood, including the recordbreaking first single, “Smoke Break,” which became Underwood’s 22nd No. 1 hit last November and Twice Underwood the 12th No. 1 hit that she has co-written. The tune also has has been named the topped the country charts in Academy of Country Canada and Australia.

Winter Jam Tour 2016 Spectacular, Christian music’s biggest tour, brings its most eclectic lineup ever to Pittsburgh and audiences in more than 40 cities this year.

Co-headlining the three-month tour are two fan favorites — the Grammy Award-winning duo, for King & Country, and the Grammy-nominated singer/ songwriter, Matthew West.

Joining them will be Crowder, Red, Sidewalk Prophets, NewSong, KB/ Tedashii/Trip Lee, Lauren Daigle and evangelist, Tony Nolan. The Pre-Jam Party showcases Stars Go Dim and We Are Messengers.

A multiple ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner and a four-time GRAMMY nominee, West was awarded his first American Music Award in 2013, followed by a Billboard Music Award in 2014.

His discography includes: Happy (2003), History (2005), Something to Say (2008), The Story of Your Life (2010), the Grammy-nominated Into the Light (2012), and most recently Live Forever (2015).

West was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Original Music & Lyrics for “The Heart of Christmas” from the film of the same name. His songwriting credits include songs by Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, Diamond Rio and others.

“If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that storytelling is contagious,” West says.

“So many people have been made to feel that their story is insignificant, that they don’t matter, or that their story is somehow disqualified because they’ve got too many messed up parts to it, and ‘Why would it matter?’”

West answers that question with his albums, The Story of Your Life (2010), Into the Light (2012) and in Live Forever (2015).

the trials and hardships we faced in the past. I remember meeting a teenager on Winter Jam 2013 who had terminal cancer. He wanted to meet us because we were his favorite band. In a sense, you might consider this a tragedy since his life was going to be taken away from him at such an early age. What I saw was beauty in the way that he handled his illness. The teen was full of hope and spirit, and even in his last days he was encouraging others and wanting to give of himself to make a difference in this world. To me, that is a testament of the ‘beauty’ that can be found in the ‘rage’ of life.”

Sidewalk Prophets

In a cabin on a lake in Pennsylvania, founding members of Sidewalk Prophets, Ben McDonald and David Frey, wrote most of what would become their third studio album, Something Different, which was released last August.

Frey talks about writing at the lake: “All these things were happening in our lives at that time but here we sat, on the peaceful serenity of this lake. It was a different way to approach writing. Instead of a clock in and clock out approach to writing, we were in the moment, in this environment for days on end asking God to fill the quiet but remove the distractions and burdens, and allow Him to speak through us. I think the whole experience facilitated, in turn, a different way to show our hearts to the world.”

Their prior albums Live Like That (2012) and These Simple Truths (2009) saw success with the singles “Live Like That” and “You Love Me Anyway” topping Christian charts.

For Something Different, the band, which in addition to McDonald and Frey includes Cal Joslin (bass), Justin Nace (drums) and Daniel Macal (lead guitar), chose to work with seasoned producer Seth Mosley for the first time.

Toward the end of their time there, the three of them had written six songs, including one of their personal favorites, “Everything in Awe.” Continued on page 40

Daigle talks about how a serious illness affected her music career.

“It honestly was one of the best things that had happened to me,” Daigle says of contracting a debilitating virus when she was 15 that kept her out of school for nearly two years.

“I was a sophomore living life and having a blast. Then there was a big halt. Because my illness was an immune deficiency, anything that was airborne I’d catch it. If any friends were sick I couldn’t be around them, so going to school became off limits.”

Of her illness, she says, “The Lord began to just pour in passion for music, singing and writing songs.”

“When I was six-years-old people would say, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ And I’d say, ‘I want to be a singer.’ My mom called the house, ‘The Music Box,’ because I’d walk around the house singing all the time. But when I got older I went to this college prep school and felt I needed to get serious, so I thought I’d go into the medical field and do mission work. Then when the Lord brought me into that solitude I was like, ‘How did I get distracted from what my true passion is? I need to be singing.’ He really brought me through all of that season to pour in a passion for ministry and a passion for music.”

Before becoming an evangelist, Nolan was the College Students’ and Singles’ Pastor at First Baptist Church Woodstock, in Woodstock, Georgia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Criswell College in Dallas. He and his family live in Georgia.

Stars Go Dim

The current members of Stars Go Dim – brothers Chris and Michael Cleveland, Kyle Williams and Josh Roach – reformed the group and released their self-titled debut album last fall. Their first single was “You Are Loved.”

“It was pretty crazy how God aligned things,” Chris Cleveland says. “When putting together this new group, I knew it needed to start with one person, my big brother, Michael.

We started playing together basically when we were born; we were on stage together when we were two and four. The original Stars Go Dim configuration was the first and only time we hadn’t played music together, so it has been really awesome to come back together musically.”

They took their time and put together ideas for more than 60 songs before winnowing down to the 14 that make up their self-titled re-debut.

“It was a real process getting to know each other musically, as well as personally,” Chris continues. “So once we sat down and thought about which songs were going to make the record, we had these ideas and templates about how these songs should sound, and with every piece added to the puzzle, these songs came to life more and more.”

Talking about the project’s first single, “You Are Loved,” Chris says, “For me, that’s a message for my son and daughter as they grow up. I want them to know their innate value and their worth. We get comments all the time about what this simple, yet powerful message means to people.”

We want to see the good news of Jesus Christ communicated with honesty, sincerity and compassion. MONSTER JAM LEGEND TO DRIVE AT CONSOL By: Pam Thompson

When Monster Jam comes to Pittsburgh this winter, fans will get to see one of the sport’s most prominent and accomplished performers in competition at CONSOL Energy Center.

Monster Jam calls Pablo Huffaker, who currently drives Grave Digger, a “true legend,” citing him for his “over the top performances” on the track and his off-track contributions as a designer and builder of Monster Jam trucks and specialized parts.

“I’m probably the longest reigning truck driver,” Huffaker says. “Others came before me, but they have retired. I’m still at the top of my game after 33 years.”

He clearly remembers his first performance driving a Monster truck for an audience.

“The first time was an event in a Jacksonville, Florida arena. It was the thrill of my life. It was wonderful,” Huffaker says.

Comparing his debut to today’s driving experiences, Huffaker laughs and says “It’s probably as different as driving a Model A. The only similarity is that they are big and called ‘Monster trucks’.”

He explains that Monster Jam trucks have grown in sophistication. Today’s trucks are all brand new and “purpose built from the ground up for Monster Jam” while early trucks often began with an adapted military surplus vehicle and salvaged parts.

For Huffaker, driving Monster Jam trucks today is as thrilling as his first performance decades ago. He says: “We get to meet a lot of nice people, but for me the part I like the most is the time we spend in the Monster Jam truck performing for the crowd.

It’s the little moments that we have competing that we value the most. A minute and a half for freestyle, and even if you do good in racing, you still may only drive for four minutes at a show, but those moments are what drive me. I love to drive the Monster Jam truck.”

“Monster Jam trucks did not exist when I was growing up,” Huffaker says.

“I was one of the first four guys involved.”

He says, “I’ve known pretty much everyone that has ever been involved in it and I’ve seen every change this sport has endured from its inception until now.”

Credited with designing, innovating and building specialized Monster Jam truck technology, Huffaker has no formal technical or engineering training.

Among his many notable designs are specialty hydraulic steering cylinders, new generation shocks and bead lock wheels which keep tires clamped to truck wheels to prevent tires from blowing off during performances.

“I learned while I earned,” he says of his career. “I’m very self taught. It’s easy to learn, if it’s what you love to do.”

Huffaker says, “You need to find a job, something you love to do that you would do for free, and then figure out how to get paid for it.”

For Huffaker that means either driving Monster Jam trucks or working in his high tech machine shop.

His advice to people who would like to emulate his career — “Chase your dreams. First get your education. Get all of the education that you can.”

He says that there are openings for support positions on Monster Jam crews that potentially can evolve into race team positions with time.

Huffaker found Monster Jam trucks through his early passion for fourwheel-drive trucks.

“I love four-wheel-drive trucks. I even had my own jacked up four wheel drive. Then I saw Bigfoot in the movie, “Take This Job and Shove It,” and my partner and I decided that we were going to build a Monster Jam truck. We didn’t really anticipate doing what we’re doing today with them. We just built a Monster Jam truck to promote our four-wheel-drive shop. We scraped together the funds and built a two-and-a-half ton Monster Jam truck with 48s on it just to promote the shop.”

That truck attracted the attention of TNT Motorsports. Huffaker and his partner accepted an offer to run in the upcoming season after agreeing to change the truck’s name from “The Eliminator” to “King Krunch” and to go with a different paint job.

“I remember they sent the original drawings over and we were kind of laughing, but we said if this is what these guys would like, then we’ll do this,” Huffaker recalls.

After driving King Krunch in events for about six months, Huffaker and his partner sold their four-wheel-drive shop to follow their passion for Monster trucks.

Huffaker is one of nine Grave Digger drivers touring throughout America and internationally.

The other drivers include Chad Tingler, Randy Brown, Gary Porter, Charlie Pauken, Carl Van Horn, Jon Zimmer, and another Monster Jam great, Dennis Anderson. This year his son, Adam Anderson joins the team.

Grave Digger, conceived by the senior Anderson, emerged in the early 1980s as a mud bog truck. Built out of an old 1957 Chevy Panel Wagon and parts found in junkyards, it was a dull orange color with red headlights salvaged from old school buses.

The modern Grave Digger, painted in black and green with its trademark red headlights, sports flames, eerie ghosts, a haunted house and tombstones of competitors that it has bested.

The first Grave Digger and seven other versions in the truck’s evolution celebrated Grave Digger’s 30th anniversary thrilling fans in the Monster Jam World Finals XIII Encore 2012.

In Monster Jam, Huffaker usually competes in four or five events. Minimally, he drives in the wheelie competition, obstacle course race, and donut and freestyle competitions.

Like many audience members, Huffaker most enjoys freestyle competition.

He likens it to “dessert at the end of a meal.”

“It’s what everyone comes to see. It’s last and sends everyone home on a high note,” he says.

In freestyle contests, judges rate drivers on criteria including the variety and combination of tricks – wheelies, donuts, jumps — hitting obstacles like cars, buses and dirt jumps, and the wow factor for seemingly impossible feats.

Huffaker says that his freestyle routine is “a little of everything and varies from venue to venue and track to track.”

“I usually have at least a half day to walk the track and plan my moves,” Huffaker says.

A team of experts construct tracks, taking into consideration dictates of venues, as well as the condition of the dirt hauled in for shows.

“The track builders are masters at what they do,” Huffaker says.

Typically track builds take 7,500 tons of dirt, which usually is stored year after year by local contractors in each city. Sometimes the track builders have to deal with conditions brought on by Mother Nature like snow or frozen dirt. The team must also meet schedules and protect the floor of the venue.

Monster Jam has traveled to more than 20 countries, performing for more than four million fans.

Huffaker says, “Monster Jam is just a great family event. Come be a part and see what it’s about. It’s pretty amazing what we can do with a 10,000-pound Monster truck. Most people will want to be repeat fans.” | 56 |

THE WHO HITS 50!

CONCERT RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH By: Pam Thompson

THE WHO HITS 50! North American tour comes to Pittsburgh on March 16 for its show at CONSOL Energy Center.

Celebrating its legacy as one of the rock world’s most influential bands, the tour demonstrates why and how The Who became pioneers and legends.

The first leg of the tour, which kicked off last spring, received acclaim from reviewers including: o Melissa Ruggieri of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution who wrote, “… if this is indeed The Who’s last waltz, they’re leaving fans with plenty of memories.” o Karen Dalton-Beninato of Huffington Post who reported, “The band shredded through enough greatest hits in fine form to satisfy any purist,” o Bob Gendron of the Chicago Tribune who told readers, “The Who came out swinging…stuffing a career’s worth of classic moves into its opening song.”

When Roger Daltrey, The Who’s lead singer and ostensible founder of the group, called the tour “the beginning of the long goodbye” last year, he probably didn’t know just how long it would take to complete the 50th anniversary concerts.

After performing a string of concerts in the U.S. and Europe, the fall leg of the tour was postponed when Daltrey was diagnosed with viral meningitis and doctors prescribed rest and no more touring for 2015.

Expressing apologies and regrets to fans, the band promised to make good on its entire schedule.

Pete Townshend, the band’s innovative, guitar-bashing creative force and songwriter says, “We will be starting our rescheduled shows in February and will be coming back stronger than ever.”

Daltrey tells fans, “I’d like to say a big thank you to all you Who fans for your kind wishes following my recent bout of viral meningitis…I will be back! Both me and Pete are looking forward to seeing you all at the rescheduled shows in the New Year.”

Townshend adds, “Roger and I will give you all a show to remember.”

Tickets for the originally scheduled shows are being honored on the new We are what we are, and dates.

The set list for The Who concert will take fans through the group’s fivedecade career from its early days to the present with music from classic albums including Who’s Next, Tommy, Quadrophenia, My Generation and Live at Leeds.

The compilation album, The Who Hits 50! was released in October 2014.

Townshend describes it as “hits, picks, mixes and misses.” The Who Hits 50! includes the band’s music from 1964 to “Be Lucky,” its new song, as well as some lesser known tunes, including “Dogs,” “Call Me Lightning,” and “Let’s See Action.”

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005, The Who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy Foundation in 2001 for creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the recording industry.

When the band formed, the four distinct personalities of its original members melded together resulting in a creative tension in its recordings and performances, such as “My Generation,” “Magic Bus,” and “”Won’t Get Fooled Again,” as well as the innovative rock opera, Tommy, and many other memorable works.

Three members of the original band which evolved from Daltrey’s group, The Detours, were playing together by 1962, and it wasn’t until 1964, that drummer Keith Moon joined Daltrey, Townshend and John Entwistle.

It was the same year that the band changed its name three times before returning to, and settling on “The Who.” It also was the year when Townshend smashed his first guitar – by accident.

The Who’s historical account says that he was so frustrated by the mishap that he proceeded to reduce the guitar to splinters, which turned out to be “the most exciting live act pop has ever seen.”

Daltrey’s roaring vocals, Entwistle’s virtuosity on bass, Moon’s frenetic hammering and Townshend’s songwriting and visual stage style resulted in Continued on page 63

In 1969, The Who played Woodstock, solidifying their reputation as a rock legend.

The uniqueness of The Who’s music, performances and style created an experience for concert-goers that influenced the future of rock and roll.

When Bruce Springsteen presented Townshend with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for charity last May, he told the audience about his experience seeing The Who when they opened for Herman’s Hermits in 1967.

“For some reason,” Springsteen says, “this music and the demolishing of all these perfectly fine instruments filled me with incredible joy….”

The Boss says that he emulated The Who at a school dance, substituting a pilfered vase of flowers for his dear guitar, in a smashing scene at the end of his gig.

In 1970, The Who performed Tommy in its entirety and dedicated the show to their opening act, a newcomer named Elton John.

The Who lost Moon, who died in 1978, and Entwistle, who died in 2002, on the eve of the band’s U.S. tour.

Members of the current touring band are: o Simon Townshend (guitar, mandolin, backing vocals) is Pete Townshend’s younger brother.

He was recruited to add vocals to The Who classic “Tommy.” He has been guitarist and vocalist in The Who since 1996, playing sold-out tours around the world, including performances at the 2010 Super Bowl and the 2012 London Olympics. In 2014, he released his own album, Denial. o Pino Palladino (bass) was Townshend’s and Daltrey’s first choice to fill the position left by Entwistle. His playing has earned him custom instruments bearing his name, including the Fender Pino Palladino Signature Precision Bass. Acclaimed for his ability to play most genres of popular music, Palladino has played bass on albums by various artists, including Elton John, Jeff Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and Eric Clapton. o Zak Starkey (drums) is Ringo Starr’s son and Keith Moon’s godson.
