Everyone knows what goth fashion is, but what is this new Gothic-lite? This trend is, as you can guess, heavily inspired by goth, which still uses predominantly black, chunky silhouettes, and has that overall dark vibe/aesthetic. Gothic-lite is a more feminine, delicate approach to goth. Many would describe it as sophisticated, dark, rebellious, or romantic. Unlike your typical goth fashion, this trend incorporates a bit more color, like whites and jewel tones, and incorporates more delicate fabrics and silhouettes like laces, silks, leathers, sheers, velvets, satins, and flowy skirts/dresses Although this trend is still mostly black, fashion has seen a lot lately that you can still make a strong statement in such a classic shade This trend blew up on social media when Tim Burton’s hit TV show Wednesday came out starring Jenna Ortega, Gen Z’s ‘It Girl’ People on TikTok posted their interpretations of Wednesday’s style and continued calling it goth-lite WGSN also mentions how this trend also incorporates some NeoVictoriana themes, like high ruffly necklines, full ballroom-style dresses, and black and jewel tones. Gothic-lite also relates to Modern Goth, another current trend people are talking about. Although they are very similar, gothic-lite has a more feminine approach, while modern goth is more inspired by 90s grunge and toxic positivity.
