passion for
learning The Sixth Form at Pipers Corner, with its enthusiasm for life and learning, provides the ideal finale to each girl’s school career. Girls are actively encouraged to push the boundaries of the curriculum and develop and expand their interest in their chosen subjects as they strive to fulfil their academic potential. In addition all members of the Sixth Form are expected to contribute to our school community as a whole through a wide range of responsibilities, privileges and teamwork.
This combined approach develops a strong sense of community and fosters, within each individual girl, a sense of self-belief and self-confidence which will enable her to make a positive contribution to society. Above all, our aim is to help all our Sixth Formers to achieve beyond their expectations and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they will need in order to be happy and successful in their future lives.

Positions of responsibility
What do you enjoy most about the Sixth Form?
I’m a Prefect, Deputy Sports Captain and part of the Eco Committee. My role of Deputy Sports Captain is fantastic as it means I am really able to interact with the younger girls in the Sports teams during practice and at game time.
When I moved from Senior School to the Sixth Form I felt a greater sense of responsibility for my actions and the school. I certainly feel more mature and I enjoy the relationships that I have built up with my teachers. I also like being able to choose what I wear each day and appreciate the space and escape that the private Sixth Form areas offer.
Why did you choose to study in the Sixth Form at Pipers? The main reason is the quality of teaching and the teachers themselves. I have been encouraged, nurtured, listened to and inspired throughout my time at Pipers so I didn’t want to leave.
In what extra-curricular activities do you participate? I’m a keen sportswoman and enjoy the thrill of competition. I’m an active member of the Netball and Athletics teams. I enjoy going to Spanish Film Club to immerse myself in the culture of their cinema. I am also a member of the Debating Society and enjoy the challenge of putting together a strong argument when debating a motion.
Do you have a favourite subject? I’m very passionate about my languages, French and Spanish, and hope to become fluent in both in due course.
What do you hope to do after completing your A Levels? I hope to read Modern Foreign Languages and I’m currently looking at a number of universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, Bristol, UCL and Durham. As well as languages I’m also interested in mathematics so eventually I would possibly like to combine the two areas and work for a foreign investment bank.
“ If you actively engage in all that Pipers has to offer you will learn new things every day, make life-long friends and emerge at the end of your time at the school a more confident, able individual.
“ Pipers is a haven for individual nurturing that stretches each student to her full potential and has enabled me to mature into the person I am today.

Positions of responsibility
What do you enjoy most about the Sixth Form?
I am Deputy Form Captain, Member of the School Council Committee, Student Subject Leader (Chemistry), a Student Listener and Fitness Suite Supervisor. All these positions have allowed me to have a much greater involvement in school life and I have relished the opportunity to do so. For example as a Student Listener I have fostered relationships with younger members of the school and helped to solve individual dilemmas and issues of school and home life.
The opportunity to take up roles of responsibility and the chance to be a member of a team working together have been great aspects of life in the Sixth Form. What I enjoy most has been the fact that as a Year group we have all become very close.
Why did you choose to study in the Sixth Form at Pipers? The small class sizes and the personal relationships that you are able to develop with teaching staff allows for a personal form of teaching. I knew that through staying here I could be stretched in the appropriate ways. The opportunity to get involved in so much within the school was also appealing to me as I knew I’d have the chance to explore a variety of activities.
Do you have a favourite subject? I love Maths. Ever since I came to Pipers my teachers have been keen to see I was being stretched. However my favourite subject has to be Biology as my fascination for human science has never failed. Blessed with enthusiastic teachers I have gained an opportunity to ask challenging questions and extend the syllabus.
In what extra-curricular activities do you participate? I have tried to be involved in as much as possible while maintaining my commitment to my subjects. This alone has been rewarding in terms of developing vital time management skills. I play for the Netball team, which provides plenty of opportunities to get to know the
younger years and grow as a team. I take flute and LAMDA lessons during my free periods and I also play the flute in the school orchestra. I am a member of the Debating Society which has meant that I have been involved in various events this year including staff student debates, national competitions and an informal dinner debate with Harrow School. I am a fitness suite advisor which involves attending the gym a few times a week.
What do you hope to do after completing your A Levels? After completing my A Levels I aim to read Medicine and one day register as a doctor with the GMC. My ambition is to be one of the leading consultants in my chosen field of medicine, working internationally to provide equality in patient care and life-changing treatment worldwide. My top choices of universities are Cambridge, UCL, and Bristol.

Positions of responsibility I am Head of Penn House and also Sports Captain. These two roles involve a lot of communication and interaction with girls lower down in the school. For sports I have been involved in taking practise sessions, writing fixtures lists and confirming matches with other schools. Being Head of Penn House is time consuming and it is my responsibility to make sure that everything goes according to plan, but I’ve really enjoyed it.
Why did you choose to study in the Sixth Form at Pipers? Pipers Corner provided the subjects I wanted to do and I felt these two years were too important to change school and learn new teachers’ names and where to go.
What do you enjoy most about the Sixth Form? As it is quite small you get to know people better. My Form consisted of people I hadn’t talked to in the past so it was nice to make some more new, close friends.
In what extra-curricular activities do you participate?
What do you hope to do after completing your A Levels?
I have two main extra–curricular activities that I do within the school which are Netball and playing the violin. I have played Netball since I joined Pipers Corner as I find team sports enjoyable. It is a big commitment but comes with great rewards; I have been lucky enough to play in national tournaments, fly to Edinburgh to compete in a tournament and it has been a great way to stay in shape.
Once I have completed my A Levels I will be going to study Product Design at the University of Central Lancashire. Eventually my ideal job would be doing something that I enjoy that opens up a lot of opportunities so I can make use of my qualifications and always be able to try something different.
I am a very sporty person so playing an instrument is a different thing that I enjoy doing. I find it is an important skill to have and my violin teacher has given me the motivation to play in front of audiences which had always been a fear of mine.
“ The Sixth Form at Pipers has the advantage of being a small but close community which allows you not only to build friendships with the other girls but also your teachers.
horizons expanding
We offer our Sixth Formers a programme of learning that enables them to successfully manage the transition from GCSE to A Level, develop as independent learners and prepare themselves for life beyond Sixth Form. Past speakers have included representatives from Google, British Airways, The Army, the Ashmolean Museum, the NHS, the University of Oxford, Frontier Overseas, the Metropolitan Police Force and the National Citizenship Service, as well as Pipers’ Alumnae. Some of the enrichment programme content includes: ■ Mindsets: Development of the characteristics/skills to be effective independent learners (time management, organisational skills, effective use of research facilities, resilience etc.) ■ Future options: Guidance and support to help girls understand future career routes including university applications, apprenticeships and alternatives to university. ■ Life skills: Personal finance/budgeting, CV development and workshops. ■ Personal health and well-being: Alcohol and drug awareness, first aid and mental health issues.
