In 1918 women first got the right to vote. In 1941 President Rosevelt issued the Executive Order 8802, opening up job opportunities to people of different races.

In 1969 the Stonewall riots took place. 20 years later the Stonewall foundation was set up, petitioning for LGBTQ+ rights.

These are just a few notable events in history. Looking back can help us see how far we’ve come. It can help us learn from our mistakes, and relive the great triumphs of the past. However, it can also make us see how far we still have to go.

On the 25 of May 2020 George Floyd, a black man, was killed after Derek Chauvin, white police officer, knelt on his neck for 9 minutes.

On the 3 of February 2021 a Polish anti-abortion law came into enforcement. On the 3 of April 2021, Arkansas became the first of 33 states to outlaw gender-affirming treatment to minors.

Although it can seem like we still have so far to go, I believe that in the past year, society has come together; although we’ve been so far apart. We have evolved away from our outdated, discriminatory ideas, and united. We’ve come together to fight for change.

On the 20 of April 2021 Derek Chauvin was found guilty of second degree murder, third degree murder and manslaughter.

The majority of Poles disagree with the anti-abortion law, and protests took place in Krakow and Warsaw immediatley after the law came into place.

There has been much outcry about the anti-trans laws from governors, human rights campaigners and more.

That is not to say that there is not still injustice in the world. There is. However, these are just a few examples of how our world is changing for the better. We are uniting as a society and we are making a difference. I am hopeful that we will continue as a society to strive for justice. For change. And for Evolution. Societal Evolution
