Petra Hudcová (* 1976) was born in Prague where she currently works. She has completed a BA at the Leeds Metropolitan University, UK and an MA at the Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design in London. She often draws inspiration from architectural forms and failed principles.

She develops objects in reaction to a given environment and is particularly interested in the role structures and spaces play in altering the perception of a participant or a viewer.

Hinda Weiss (* 1980) is a photographer and video artist based in Tel Aviv and New York. Her works are compositions of landscapes that are charged with local histories and the body that exists among them.

Weiss has a BFA from Hamidrasha School of Art and is a MFA candidate at Columbia University. Her recent solo shows were at Ludlow 38, New York City and at Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art. She has received the Outset Contemporary Young International Artist Award for 2015.

Petra Hudcová (* 1976) se narodila v Praze, kde žije a pracuje. Bakalářský titul získala na Leeds Metropolitan University ve Velké Británii a magisterské studium dokončila na Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design v Londýně. Často čerpá inspiraci z architektonických forem a principů selhání či nepochopení. Své objekty rozvíjí v reakci na dané prostředí, má zvláštní zájem o struktury a prostory a změny ve vnímání účastníka a působení na diváka.

Hinda Weiss (* 1980) je fotografka a výtvarnice, působící v Tel Avivu a v New Yorku. Ve své práci se věnuje kompozicím krajin ovlivněných svou vlastní historií místa. Weiss absolvovala na Hamidrasha School of Art a aktuálně studuje na Columbia University. Nedávno samostatně vystavovala v Ludlow 38 v New Yorku a v Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art. V roce 2015 obdržela cenu Outset Contemporary Young International Artist Award.

Prázdno je bezčasé. Speciálně ten druh prázdnoty, kde můžete téměř cítit přítomnost něčeho, co tam bylo a zmizelo-nebo ještě nebylo postaveno. Můžete ho najít tam na parkovištích mezi Jaffou a Tel Avivem nebo v některých keltských sídlištích kolem Prahy-ukrytých na vrcholcích v lese, tajemných a tichých. Není tam nic v Prostoru, co by ukázalo evidenci času. Jen stará keltská báseň:

„To je čas, který není čas V místě, které není místem V den který není dnem Mezi slovy, a za nimi…“

řádu moderního Tel Avivu. Mezi těmito dvěma je mezera. Prázdný prostor, pole, kde bývala Arabská vesnice. Ticho ruší jen auta přejíždějící po cestě z Jaffy do Bílého Města. Není tu čas.

Víte, jak říkáme špehýrce v polštině?

Judas! Směšné, nemyslíte? Největší zrádce, poslední podvodník. Dívá se na vás po několik sekund aby vám řekl, jestli můžete jít dovnitř nebo jestli jste dobří na to jít… pryč… Má čas který vy nemáte a pozici rozhodnout, co s vámi má udělat. Voyer, úchylák! Nevhodná osoba k rozhodnutím, které mohou mít závažné důsledky. Přesto, když nad tím přemýšlíte, je to přece jen jenom špehýrka. Proč tomu říkat Jidáš?

Kdo koho zrazuje?

Abyste věděli, jak hluboko jste se dostali ve své meditaci, musíte cítit vrstvy vědomí, když chcete skončit a otevřít oči. Přesně v tom momentu je necítila, otevřela oči, a skočila na nohy aby mohla otevřít dveře.

Někdo na ně jemně klepal. „Ano“, křičela, „ano, ano, ano!“ aniž se podívala špehýrkou.

The time has become countable in such an arrogant and brassy manner. I’m talking about ‘the time’ - the absolute hordes of hours, seconds and minutes that have already passed and immensity of years, centuries and decades that are going to be - scanned, named and archived for the future - therefore useless. We did forget about the divine dimension of time, didn’t we? About centuries when a human wasn’t able to count it almost at all. The sunset and sunrise would be the only way to measure time - passing seasons and life of our beloved so naked and exposed to death therefore so precious. The value of time was lying in the unknown aspect of it.

We don‘t know therefore we praise. We are scared of the unknown. Today we know better than we wished for. We are still scared though.

A narrow ray of light was coming straight from her window going across the room and pointing with a surgeon precision at the peephole. ‘It’s time to go’ crossed Zuzana’s mind or to be more accurate fell into her stream of thought like a massive dam. She was going for the first time to Israel, a short journey organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and some second league art fairs jiggling money from Jewish collectors from all over the world.

Not really an exciting event but a pretty

good excuse to spend 5 days in the sunny Middle East. The car was supposed to pick her up at 12 so she zipped her luggage, grabbed her phone, sunglasses, keys and pushed the door handle. The door was locked.

“Do you ever get this feeling it’s future now?”

‘Sorry I didn‘t get that?

What is now?”

“Future. Don‘t get me wrong. No I’m not talking about futuristic scenarios being spread around art and pop culture like crazy from every post-apocalyptic blokbuster to sophisticated futu plots taking over the contemporary art. It is just this annoying sensation you are planning your schedule so hard always thinking about what is going to happen the day after tomorrow etc you would almost lose a feeling when is now?”

“Exactly, when is it?”

“What?”

“Now?”

She was on the plane already. She went through security, had a short interview with a steward - extra border control where she knew all of the questions and couldn‘t be any wrong about the answers.

Buying alcohol and some snacks, boarding, putting her luggage under the seat in front of her and there she was sitting on the plane relaxing and listening to r&b classics. Nope. She knew there was not even a slight chance she was going to make it - locked from the outside by her friend visiting last night and leaving very early in the morning - she had to wait for someone who could open the door for her.

Noone was replying her desperate phone calls. Emptiness in her head, empty streets in front of her apartment, empty schedule for next 3-5 hours, 3-5 days in Prague. She was late yet too early, yet late.

In the beginning you feel angry at yourself, anxious and blunt. You are belated. Your plan is ruined and there is nothing you can do so stop cheating yourself and trying to fix this situation with a magic trick kept in a hidden pocket. No moronic abracadabra!

The hardest task is to truly face it, and let

it go. Your brain would be wasting your time trying to offer you some useless solutions. Do you want to help yourself? Take a deep breath. It takes some time.

She took a deep breath and walked through the long corridor in her apartment. The driver didn‘t call at all, no harm done. She took a seat on the sofa - a silly thought about how many people were making love on this sofa popped up in her head - she closed her eyes and began to take deep breaths again and again. She has never been to Israel.

It’s impossible to think about nothing right? But let’s try. Imagine inside of your head as an endless surface of a sea - flat and clean, not a single ripple - all of a sudden you see some dirt and plastic bottles brought by the wind, you look up to see a sandy beach, busy roads and skyline of the city, the White City. Take your time.

It is needed to go against the rush of peak hours and adore smooth and proportional facades of Bauhaus architecture. Go deeper to see and admire transcultural mix of Arabic and European motifs. You

Byla už v letadle. Prošla kontrolou, krátce mluvila se stewardkou-zvláštní palubní kontrola-kde znala všechny otázky a na jejích odpovědích nemohlo být nic špatného. Kupující alkohol a nějakou svačinu, nastupujující, a najednou seděla v letadle, odpočívajíc a poslouchajíc r&b klasiku. Ani náhodou. Věděla, že nebyla nejmenší šance to stihnout- zamčená zvenčí v pokoji přítelem, který ji navštívil minulou noc a odešel velmi brzy ráno- musela čekat na někoho, kdo by jí mohl otevřít dveře. Nikdo nezvedal její zoufalé hovory. Prázdno v hlavě, prázdné ulice před jejím bytem, prázdný program na příští 3-5 hodin, 3-5 dní v Praze. Byla vzhůru příliš brzy a zároveň příliš pozdě.

Na začátku se zlobíš sama na sebe, jsi nervózní a otupená. Jsi opožděná. Tvůj plán je v troskách a není nic, jak bys mohla přestat podvádět sama sebe a zkoušíš zachránit situaci kouzelným trikem schovaným v tajné kapse. Žádný pitomý abrakadabra!

Nejtěžší věc je tomu opravdu čelit a nechat to být. Chceš si pomoci? Dýchej zhluboka.

Chvíli to zabere.

Zhluboka dýchala a chodila dlouhou chodbou v jejím bytě. Řidič nezavolal, nic se nestalo. Posadila se na pohovku-bláznivá myšlenka, kolik lidí se asi na té pohovce milovalo jí proběhla hlavou- zavřela oči a začala znovu zhluboka dýchat. Nikdy nebyla v Izraeli.

Je opravdu možné o ničem nepřemýšlet?

Zkusme to. Představ si uvnitř své hlavy nekonečnou hladinu moře- plochou a čistou, žádné vlny- najednou z ničeho nic vidíš nějakou špínu a plastové lahve přinesené větrem, podíváš se na písečnou pláž, plné ulice a oblohu města, Bílého Města. Klid. Je potřeba jít proti spěchu dosažených hodin a obdivovat jemné a proporciální fasády architektury Bauhausu. Běž dál a uvidíš a můžeš obdivovat mezikulturní mix Arabských a Evropských motivů. Musíš se vyhnout davu turistů a alespoň na druhý pokus zapomenout na politiku, všudypřítomnou v každém gestu, každém slově.

Působivé mrakodrapy vystupují téměř přímo z pláže. Podívej se doprava. Tam je Jaffa. Žluté kameny vymílané pískem po staletí proti sofistikovanému vertikálnímu

There is Jaffa. Yellow stones burned by the sand for centuries against the sophisticated vertical order of modern Tel Aviv. Between these two there is a gap. An empty space, a field where an Arabic village used to be placed.

There is silence disturbed by cars crossing on the way from Jaffa to the White City. There is no time there.

Do you know how we call peephole in Polish?

Judas! Funny isn’t it? The great betraitor, the ultimate deceiver. He peeps at you for this bunch of seconds to tell whether you can get in or you are good to go.. away. He has time that you don‘t have and position to decide what to do with you. The peeper, the pervert!

A wrong person to make decision that could

have serious consequences. Though when you think about it it is just a peephole after all. Why do they call them Judas? Who is betraying who?

To know how deep you get in your meditation is to feel the layers of consciousness when you decide to finish it and open your eyes. In this specific moment she didn‘t feel them at all opening her eyes and jumping on her feet so she could run to the door. Someone was knocking at it gently.

“Yes” she shouted, “yes, yes, yes!” just before looking through the peephole.

Void is timeless. Especially this kind of emptiness where you could almost sense the presence of something that was here and disappeared - or maybe it wasn’t built yet. You could find it there in the parking lots between Jaffa and Tel Aviv or in various Celtic settlements around Prague - hidden at the top of the hills in forest, mystic and silent. There is nothing in the Space that could show the evidence of time. Just as in this old Celtic poem:

”This is a time that is not a time In a place that is not a place On a day that is not a day, Between the worlds, and beyond….”

Čas se stal počitatelným neuvěřitelně arogantním a drzým způsobem. Mluvím o čase s velkým č-absolutní hordě hodin, sekund a minut které už uběhly, o nezměrnosti roků, století a desetiletí, které teprve budou nasnímány, pojmenovány a archivovány pro budoucnost, a proto zbytečné.

Zapomněli jsme na božský rozměr času, nebo ne? Na staletí, kdy člověk to ještě téměř nebyl schopen pojmout či spočítat.

Západ a východ slunce byl jediným způsobem, jak měřit čas-míjející roční období a životy našich milovaných, tak nahých a vystavených smrti, a tudíž tak drahý.

Hodnota času ležela v jeho nepoznaném aspektu. Nevíme a proto se modlíme.

Bojíme se neznámého. Dnes víme více než bychom si přáli. Přesto se bojíme.

Blízký paprsek světla vycházel přímo z jejího okna, procházel pokojem a s chirurgickou přesností ukazoval na špehýrku. „Je čas jít“, blesklo Zuzaně hlavou, nebo, přesněji postavilo se do proudu myšlenek jako obrovská hráz. Poprvé jela do Izraele, na krátkou cestu, organizovanou Mini-

sterstvem zahraničních věcí a nějakou druhořadou přehlídkou umění sosající peníze z Židovských sběratelů z celého světa.

Nijak vzrušující akce, ale perfektní výmluva strávit pět dní na slunném Středním Východě.“ Auto ji mělo vyzvednout ve 12, zavřela kufr, vzala telefon, sluneční brýle, klíče a stiskla kliku od dveří. Byly zamčené.

„Měla jsi někdy ten pocit že ted´ je budoucnost?“ „Promiň, tomu nerozumím. Co je teď?“ „Budoucnost. Abychom si rozuměli. Nemluvím o futuristických scénářích které se objevují v umění a pop kultuře jako zblázněné z každé ho post apokalyptického trháku až k sofistikovaným futuristickým plánům přebíraným současným uměním.

Je to jen další nudná sensace, že plánuješ svůj program tak napevno, vždycky přemýšlíš, co se stane pozítří atd., že bys chtěla skoro ztratit pocit kdy je teď? „Přesně, kdy je to?“ „Co?“ „Teď?“
