A mix-use building comprised of a bookstore and gallery is proposed on a 100’ x 100’ x 100’ bounding site. The mass is to be wrapped in an envelope to create a relationship between the facade and the acutal mass. The project’s objective is to focus on the interplay of framing and interior space rather than structural realism.

The design is derived from a manipulation of the grid system and “unleveled” floors. This was to explore the contrast of balance through the usage of rotating and tilting floor plates and exterior facades. The use of opposing vocabulary emphasizes on creating a visual and separation of a rigid exterior volume and sloped interior volumes.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo is a 29-acre zoo located in Schnecksville, PA. The Zoo has indicated interest in replacing their existing picnic pavilion. The space is in need of repairments due to damage from weather. A 28’ by 47.5’ pavilion has been proposed by the entrance of the Zoo to host a resting and dining area and able to serve as a venue for special occasions.

The site, juxtaposed between the ticket admissions booth and snack stand, receives sunlight in most direction mainly from the south.

The site can be accessed from two sides, entering the pavilion on the east. There is a pathway in front, extending from northwest to southwest, and a boulder wall to the back, facing the west.

Design is intended to filter light from most sides for the purpose of serving as a eating and resting area for families. Because the space also hosts special events, the pattern of the roof underlayer and skin deliberately bring unique projections of natural and artificial light to the interior and the surrounding space during all hours of the day.

Section

Using exclusively Revit, the project was to design a mix-use program of a restaurant, coffee shop, and one bedroom apartment. The site is situated south of Lehigh University campus, on E 3rd St. and S New St., 60’ x 120’ x 6 0’. The design must account for a public W/C, dining area and lounge area. The lower level interior follows a general layout of a restaurant with a waiting area at the front while the upper level provides more quiet space, with less tables and chairs, intending to be a cafe in the morning and bar at night. Renders are done in different settings to manipulate collage or photorealistic backgrounds.

The project is set on a corner site, 25’ x 60’ x 40’. It is designed for a medium-scale residential building for students, housing at least 10 people. An experimental format of the form and design was introduced into this setting. Intended to encourage more social engagement between inhabitants, the design utilizes the remvoval of interior walls and differentiating the floor sectionally to produce a gradient of publicity to privacy.

The texture use of two contrasting colors and the manipulation of sections as floors constructs an interesting, blurred space between togetherness and apart-ness and enables students to experience varying degrees of privacy without the use of walls.

2019 | Graduate Constuction Systems Professor: Jonathan Rule

This research project is an adaptated case study, Casa Levene by NO.MAD, applied to the design of a two story residence based in Southeast Michigan. Along with the given dimensional requirements of heights, stairs, and ceilings, the proposal was a collaborative effort between three students for the production of construction drawings and a built final model.

Situations This project in an Architecture Design studio concentrates on an annotated complex interior that organizes and designs an inventory in an collaborative effort of three students. The focus is indexical and tectonical and also engages conditions created by variables to explicitly use annotative and representative techniques to govern this plan.

Representation Currently in a six week session focusing on projection drawings. This session presents toward understanding of projection’s role in continually shifting representational terrain. Borrowing from the literary experiments of Raymond Queneau’s Exercises in Style to explore and adapt possibilities of representation through projection and representation.
