Kalavryta is located on the slopes of Mount Helmos (meaning Snow Mountain) in the Peloponnese and is an ideal base for winter sports and other activities in the region. The unique geological formations have also made the area a popular destination for rock climbers, but mountain biking, trekking and other activities are also available to immerse you in the surrounding nature. The area is best known, however, for its ski resort, which rivals that of Parnassos, with slopes for all skill levels, albeit with somewhat less modern lifts. The town has a well-developed tourist infrastructure with numerous hotels, spas, and guesthouses. Many of the pretty villages in the area also offer good accommodation options.
In addition to nature-based activities, there is plenty of culture and history in and around the town, including a World War II Museum, spectacular monasteries, and a unique railroad line connecting Kalavryta with the coastal village of Diakofto that is simply one of the most beautiful in Europe.
