A Community Hymn Festival “Through the Church the Song Goes On”
Volume 36 | Issue 5 | May 2016
In the Life of the Church May 1
Join us on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. for an inspirational hymn festival led by Dr. John Ferguson. Known for his many choral compositions and refreshing hymn interpretations, Dr. Ferguson is the American church musician, organist, teacher, and composer perhaps most associated with the term “Hymn Festival.” The festivals he designs and leads for diverse audiences throughout the country are ecumenical experiences drawing upon the treasures of Christian song from many centuries, traditions, and styles. In June, 2012, he retired after 29 years as the Elliot & Klara Stockdahl Johnson professor of organ and church music at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, where he also conducted the St. Olaf Cantorei, and served as Cantor to the student congregation. He has more than 150 published titles to his credit and has appeared on several recordings.
