All adults are invited to participate in our Summer Adult Forums which begin on June 19 in the Fellowship Hall, at 9:40. (The location will change below for two forums.) Here's the schedule for interesting topics:
June 19 "A Singing Faith" — Join Ron Poorman as we explore hymns and music of the faith, and be prepared to lift your voices in song!
July 10, 17, 24 "Where Does Peace Begin? The Christian-Muslim Perspective" — Dr. Larry Conrad, a native of our area and an expert in the history and culture of Islam, will explore with us the history of Islam and its engagement with the West.
June 26 and July 3 "Stories Told in Stained Glass Windows at Pine Street" — Ken Hays, a member at Pine Street, is an authority on the lovely stained glass windows in our sanctuary. Join him in the Sanctuary these two mornings as he tells the old, old story in stained glass.
July 31 "Youth Mission Trip to West Virginia" — The Rev. Alex Lang and our youth will tells us all about their summer mission trip to West Virginia.
August 7 "Sharing Good News!" -— Join the Rev. Alex Lang and Dan and Alison Siewert as they describe evangelism initiatives in our presbytery. Great things are happening!

KOALA Continues to Grow

KOALA Club began in October of 2010 with four students in attendance. As the year progressed, we saw a steady increase of students. Each week we fluctuate between fourteen to twenty students. Students arrive full of energy, ready to play games. Usually we have relay type games with lots of running to take care of that joyous energy! After games we take a refreshment break. The next fifteen minutes is handbook time. Each student has a handbook to use for Bible memorization (They can now find the handbook on the new Pine

Biblical Stories In Our Stained Glass Windows
Biblical stories and scenes are depicted in many of our stained glass windows. Ken Hays will present information regarding these stories and scenes and the Biblical references for them on two consecutive Sunday mornings, June 26 and July 3, during the Sunday School hour. Attendees will meet in the sanctuary where the two different presentations will take place. Additionally, Ken will point out the Biblical and non-Biblical characters and symbols of nature — the sun, moon, stars, and fire. There are 120 angels in our windows as well as various musical instruments and an assortment of animals. Come to these two distinct presentations and learn what is represented in our historic and valuable stained glass windows.
Pine StreetWalkers
You are invited to join the Pine StreetWalkers for a stroll in the woods after worship on Sunday, June 12, 2011. This is a "redo" of the scheduled hike on the trails of the Fort Hunter Conservancy that was canceled in January due to inclement weather. There is a short but very steep uphill climb at the beginning, but will level out into a nice walk. There is very little parking at the trail head so we will meet at the Fort Hunter parking lot on the "Barn side" of the road at 1 p.m. This is another hidden "jewel" close to home, so don't miss this opportunity to do some exploring and learn some local history. When the children are finished with handbook time they move on to music with Mr. Steve and Miss Chelsea. We have a mini Bible lesson and then end the evening with an awards ceremony. Each student is recognized for their accomplishments of the evening. When they have completed a section, which is twelve Bible verses, they receive a Bible badge. We launched our new website on Easter with a fullpage, color- story in The Patriot-News, a Mother’s Day, feature interview on Fox 43 and a New Website Forum on May 15. This social-media outreach into the greater Harrisburg community recorded a phenomenal number of “hits” (or visitors to our website) and several visitors with us on Sunday mornings.

Session Notes for May
Approval was given for Pine Street to participate in Bible school of Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church as a mission trip June 11-18, 2011, and to in turn, host a youth group from the Jewell Ridge Church from June 18 - 25, 2011. The group will be involved in several local mission projects.
Approved Pine Street to become a certified earth care congregation. The goal of the program is to inspire chruches to care for God’s earth in a holisitc way, through intergrating earth care into all of church life.
Gave approval to the Christian Nurture and Education Committee to restructure the children and youth Sunday School classes. The Committee proposes to join all non-adult classes into one class to meet weekly in Fellowship Hall. The Middle School and preschool class would be exempt from this new arrangement.
Voted to dissolve the current Christian Nuture and Education Committee and in its place two new Sessional committees will be formed: 1) Adult Education and Spiritual Formation Committee and 2) Children, Youth, and Family Committee.

Ian graduated cum laude from Juniata College where he earned a BS in wildlife conservation. After commencement, he is going on a remote field course to the 4 corner states of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah to complete his bachelor’s degree. In the fall, Ian will start the graduate program in forestry at Penn State.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Selali graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he majored in Accounting. He plans to work and to pursue his CPA.
Annual Golf Outing
The Congregational Life Committee would like to invite everyone to our 2nd Annual Golf outing to be held Saturday June 11, 2011. With tee times starting at 1 p.m. at the Sportsman's Golf Course located on Linglestown Rd. Harrisburg, Pa. The cost for attending is $30 per person for the round payable at the pro shop located there. There is a picnic style dinner afterward for $6 per person if you wish to stay, eat and chat after the round or just stay and enjoy some fellowship. Sign ups will be located at the Welcome Center. Please indicate if you'd like the food option when you sign up. So come on out and enjoy a fun day of golf and fellowship with us.
Downtown Daily Bread Receives 2011 Liberty Bell Award

Downtown Daily Bread is the 2011 recipient of the Dauphin County Bar Association’s Liberty Bell Award. Each year, the Liberty Bell Award is presented to a local citizen or organization in recognition of their contribution to good government; their promotion of a better understanding and respect for the law and the courts; and an outstanding commitment to civic responsibility.
In addition to serving lunch every day, Downtown Daily Bread offers lockers, phone and mail service, as well as counselors to help individuals access specific services that may help them improve their circumstances. One of the most popular additions to the “Lunch Plus” program is a collaboration with the Dauphin County Bar Association, which provides free legal advice.
Michelle Shuker, Executive Director of the Dauphin County Bar Association, said she is pleased that the DCBA can provide recognition to organizations that improve the community. “Downtown Daily Bread works extremely hard to make sure that our neighbors in the city don’t go hungry. Their passion and ability to continue the meals program and expand it to meet an even greater need is truly inspirational,” she said.
Pine Street Returns to the Ridge

Twenty years ago 13 young people and 3 adults, including myself, drove to Jewell Ridge, VA, high in the Appalachian Mountains to meet Rev. Dick Stone, his wife, Kitty, and Millard Farmer, Clerk of Session, of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church. Jewell Ridge Pres. Church (JRPC) is a congregation of 50+ people in a coal mining community of 300 residents who serve in a variety of ways. Pine Street missioners have painted houses, cleared trails, built parade floats which they and residents have ridden in 4th of July parades, made molasses, helped with Bible School and formed a bond of fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ which cannot be broken. Because of the mission work done there, JRPC has visited Harrisburg to work with Habitat for Humanity, Olivet Presbyterian Church clothing bank, DDB, and other mission causes.
This year PSPC’s Session has approved a mission trip to Jewell Ridge for the purpose of assisting the JRPC with their Bible School from June 11-18, 2011. This is a family mission experience for anyone wishing to participate in an old-fashioned southern down-home good time. We will sleep in the church fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms on our own bedding. Also, when invited, we will eat with the families of the ridge and cook for ourselves in the church kitchen located next to our sleeping quarters. Then on June 18 we will caravan home with about a dozen young people and adults from JRPC and set up accommodations in the Boyd Center for a week so that their young people can work on other mission projects. All of our young people are encouraged to participate in any and all of their projects and social events, including the trip to Hershey Park! The cost for the mission trip is $10.00/day for adults and $5.00/day for children. Mission Possible Fund
It’s summertime and HersheyPark is open. If you are interested in volunteering your time (usually in 5 hour shifts) to HersheyPark or the GIANT Center, please sign up at the Welcome Center. Pine Street’s Mission Possible Fund receives $5.85 for each hour you volunteer, AND you receive at least one voucher for admission to HersheyPark. The vouchers can be used by anyone until June 30, 2012. At the end of April 2011 we had over $600 in the Mission Possible Fund. We have used this money to help pay for the MAPS reception on April 29 and for the Commonwealth Interfaith Service: Prayers for Peace and Justice reception on May 2. We will use some of this money to support the Jewell Ridge mission trip in June. With your volunteering we will have the opportunity to do so much more. Please think about joining this local mission effort.
Mission Central
On June 9 at 1:00 pm PSPC members and friends will take a tour of Mission Central in Mechanicsburg, PA. Pine Street’s mission committee chose Mission Central to receive 25% of our peacemaking offering last October. That decision was made after several members of the committee toured the facility. We want other members of Pine Street to see all the ways that Mission Central serves people in the Harrisburg area, in other areas of the United States, and even around the world (our Haiti hygiene and school kits were shipped from Mission Central). The Mission Committee knows that members of Pine Street will want to actively support Mission Central once they see what this agency does. Sign-up sheets will be at the Welcome Center starting May 22. If you can’t make it this month, don’t worry. We’ll have other opportunities for you later this year.

During the Sunday school hour we will share information about mission projects PSPC has been involved with in the last year and a new one starting. Please plan to join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:40 a.m. each Sunday.

Before heading out for a day of yard work, golfing or boating, you will need to be properly nourished. So come to the Men's Breakfast on Saturday, June 11, 2011 You will not be sorry and you will get your fill of the best breakfast food in all of Harrisburg. Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m., conversation and fellowship will follow. Sign up at the Welcome Center. There is no breakfast in July and August. See you in September.
Earth Care and Pine Street
Keep your ears and eyes open for a new focus on environmental issues. The Session approved a motion for Pine Street to become an Earth Care Congregation. Through this program the PSPC staff, teachers, members young and old, and the general public will be involved. This will NOT involve your need to give more money!!! BUT it will involve your willingness to be aware of how we all can be better stewards of God’s good creation. We have some creative plans for the future – stay tuned!!!
