God our deliverer, as you revealed your law to Moses on Mount Sinai, teach us to worship you alone and to keep your commandments, that we live by our faith and be faithful as your people. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: Let us gather to learn.

Many: Let us gather to witness.

One: Let us gather to change.

Many: Let us gather to repent.

One: Let us gather to hope.

Many: Let us gather to worship the Lord our God.

God of the law and the prophets, we do not want to admit all the commandments we have broken. We worship idols of money, success, and power. We use your name to justify whatever we do. We neglect to honor each other. We covet, we lie, we wish evil upon others. Our sins are far too many to name. Forgive us, Lord. Speak to us and we will listen, remembering that you are our freedom and deliverer

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH From A Brief Statement of Faith

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM The Tree of Life K.

There in God’s Garden stands the Tree of Wisdom, whose leaves hold forth the healing of the nations: Tree of all knowledge, Tree of all compassion, Tree of all beauty. Its name is Jesus, name that says, “Our Savior!” There on its branches see the scars of suffering; see where the tendrils of our human selfhood feed on its lifeblood. Thorns not his own are tangled in its foliage; our greed has starved it, our despite has choked it. Yet, look! It lives! Its grief has not destroyed it nor fire consumed it. See how its branches reach to us in welcome; hear what the Voice says, “Come to me, ye weary! Give me your sickness, give me all your sorrow, I will give blessing.” This is my ending, this my resurrection; into your hands, Lord, I commit my spirit. This have I searched for; now I can possess it. This ground is holy. All heaven is singing, “Thanks to Christ whose Passion offers in mercy healing, strength, and pardon. Peoples and nations, take it, take it freely!” Amen! My Master!

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS
