† PRAYER OF THE DAY † Those able are invited to stand Bold text is read or sung by all

Lord, you love and care for us, the sheep of your fold. You provide for us and nurture us with the food of your presence and the waters of your grace. Still, O Lord, we wander astray, as if we do not need your love. Still, O Lord, we wander astray, as if we could live this life on our own. Forgive us, Lord, and call us back with a gentle word and a reminder of your promises. Forgive us, Lord, and call us back with a shepherd’s crook and a glimpse of your providence. Forgive us, O Lord. † AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Excerpts from A Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

ANTHEM Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

INVITATION TO THE TABLE

Many: And also with you.

Arr. James Mulholland Come, Thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above; praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of God’s unchanging love! Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by Thy help I’m come; and I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let that grace now, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee; prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

One: Lift up your hearts.

SEALINGTHE WORD

One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Many: We lift them to the Lord.

Many: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

One: The Lord be with you.

OLD HUNDREDTH Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen. PRAYER OF DEDICATION

… who forever sing your praise.

BEARING AND FOLLOWING THE WORD OF GOD INTO THE WORLD

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

FLOWER D EDICATION

PLEASE NOTE: The Session has called a CONGREGATIONAL MEETING at the end of worship on September 18. The purpose of this meeting will be to hear and act on a slate of candidates selected by the congregational nominating committee to serve on the Pastor Nominating Committee. These are the seven candidates in alphabetical order: Amy Chick, David Colestock, Jennifer Garman, Jay Himes, George Kunkle, Elyse Rogers, and Isaiah Shu.

All members of the congregation are invited to attend and participate in the election of these candidates. There will also be an opportunity for nominations from the floor as a part of the meeting. Please join us as you are able for this exciting next step in the transition process.

During the remaining weeks before the offering we will highlight projects of our Presbytery and Synod, which together receive 25 percent of the offering, and the PCUSA’s nationwide and worldwide efforts to promote peace in our troubled world, which receive the remaining 50 percent of the offering. You may receive the daily meditations on peace at //pcusa.org/subscribeSOP

As we enter the second week of the SEASON OF PEACE, consider how the Peace and Global Witness Offering unites us with fellow Presbyterians as we seek reconciliation with each other and our global siblings, because the peace of Christ belongs to people everywhere. The Scripture referenced this year is Isaiah 55:12 “For you shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace.”

The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in thankful memory for the life of Jack Taylor by Barbara Taylor and our family.

Change My Heart, O God CHANGE MY HEART

Judge Eternal, Throned in Splendor

RHUDDLAN

(All Read in Unison)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. (Refrain)

Psalm 51

Against you, you alone, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgment. Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner, when my mother conceived me. You desire truth in the inward being; therefore, teach me wisdom in my secret heart. (Refrain)

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. (Refrain)
