PRAYER OF PREPARATION
Give me, O Lord, a steadfast heart, which no unworthy affection may drag downward; give me an unconquered heart, which no tribulation can wear out; give me an upright heart, which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow on me also, O Lord my God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

One: In you, O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame.
Many: In your righteousness, deliver and rescue us. Incline your ear to us and save us.
One: Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me, for you are my rock and fortress.
Many: Rescue us, O God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
One: For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust from my youth.
Many: From our births, we have leaned upon you. Our praise is continually of you.
One: Let us worship our protection and our salvation. Let us praise the Lord our God.

O God of mercy, we confess that we live self-centered lives. We tolerate injustice and cruelty. Complacent in our corner of the world, we neglect the needs of others.
