Hello everyone! Id like to start this by apologizing for the pp coming out so late. I was waiting to put it out due to a lack of submissions, but then I had my scheduled time off and got sick after that. Please please please submit things before the 15th of October if you want something to be in that issue. Id like to start getting this out in the middle of the month, but most of the time i don’t get anything till the end of the month. So if anything comes up it leads to it being out late. If you have any questions or want help with anything you can email me at Education@spartan.coop

Jingwei - self titled mathrock, screamo, (instrumental*), 648 monthly listeners

This album is sick as hell. But if you aren't into the vocal style, there’ s an instrumental version! The guitar is amazing but that’ s not surprising considering its the ex merchant ships and midwest pen-pals guitarist stand outs: Blood blossom, gravetide, violence

Stargazing on your roof - Daisy, I still love you folktronica, experimental electronica, shoegaze, 524 monthly listeners

A very vulnerable and lush debut. I love when an album sounds like how the cover looks, and this one does just that stand outs: white vans, stardust in your eyes

Arias - Estrellas de Madera math-rock, post-rock, 355 monthly listeners

Arias is a prime example of the tragedy of South American alt music going unrecognized by the rest of world. This album is both beautiful, and technically masterful. something people with this much talent tend to flub by leaning too far into the later. 10/10 stand outs: Cerro Tronador, floresta, Vuelo (1000 Msnm)

Leo Vance - Rootless neo folk, alt singer songwriter, 260 monthly listeners

Pretty good, kida sad. Worth a listen. I found leo vance through the single "pointless moments", and honestly I like that song more than all of this album,so go listen to that also. Faster and less sad.

DucTape Jesus - self titled DMV rap, alt rap, 122 monthly listeners

This segments first rap album! And its a bit of an odd ball one. DTJ is a really fun artist, it isnt always the best but is fun. stand outs: illgetbackwithyou

List by MacKenzie of Orion. ordered by popularity not favoritism. if you have a suggestion send it my way!

TWO FRUITING BODIES ECLIPSE

ODE TO THE ORANGE-SHAPED HOLE IN THE EARTH

Juicy citrus out of place, out of season hold it close to your ear and hear it beat, see it naked, its orange veins flowing like magma, or the setting sun above the sea shear the orange globe peel the land away, O tender digging, leather rind pangea, continental drift pluck each pole from its soft notch, sap the juice you, eat the world enjoy it every last piece until its gone.

ELEGY TO THE LYCHEE-SIZED GRIEF INSIDE

I got shorn like a lamb

At the barber shop.

I had to say goodbye

To the me I was just with yesterday. I miss yesterday

In the same way I miss eating lychee with you

At the skate park

Beneath the rail bridge with all

The graffiti even though We did only once, just that one time.

The lychee was so sweet

Slid right off the pit

I wish I had

Eaten more.

ALL QUEERS GO TO HEAVEN

Aftervernmartin-ivie’ s “letushavelong,beautifullives”

I saw a shark

Hiding from the sun underneath a pearly

Gate in the barrier reef sleeping

Soft on the sandy

Floor no hostile spikes on his

Resting place to forbid it

From existing there she was surrounded

By coral and little obsidian urchins

And fish of every color keeping ward

God I have been a swan once

Or twice already and in the past

Have shot love darts from the soft

Tongue of my body and have been pierced

By them and in turn twisted my body

In a spiral dance around my dance partner and squeezed

Tight with all that I am

To become part of it too

And for the same partner I have been male

Carrying child and unfurled my spiral

Tail to sneeze out new life

In quick pulses through the sea

And I have been the single cell of a sprawling

Commune with a sex of its own

Unknown to all science and even the Neptune

Eyes of you I have

Lived countless short queer lives and still I weep

That pieces of this supersoul die off

So young murdered by another or dying slowly

From a culture that eschews the immaterial but I know

Everything wholly is transition so let me be

Recycled into a jack-in-the-pulpit or cobra lily

Or a clay deposit or a person again but let there be

No more queer deaths in any form I am asking you now

For the life of this planet forever

Long-lived and beautiful

The universe was once one thing. Incapable of knowing anything else for nothing else existed and it had only ever been it. But then the universe had the first thought. “I will be something else. Something new!”. This was a great first thought, however, the universe had no idea what to be. There was no limit to its possibilities and so it would be all of them. “I will be things that stay still and things that move. I will be things that change: things that grow, things that shrink. I will be things soft and hard, things rigid and malleable. The universe had become all things seen, heard, and touched. The universe made itself into so many things, it realized, without even knowing. This was a great first realization, it made the universe want to perceive all it had become. To experience its aspects separately instead of wholly and all at once. To know what they are from an outside perspective. Still, the universe knew not what to be so it chose to be many things. It chose to be a spirit of knowing; making creatures of sky, seeing below and pondering what they witnessed. It chose to be a spirit of feeling; making creatures of waters to anticipate the impact of every flow, ripple, and current. It chose to be a spirit of doing; making creatures of land to move towards action and exploration. The universe became all things but forgot what it was like to be one thing. All things yearned to connect. The first problem, solved by all things making communication. All things named themselves, and each other, and how they relate. From this great problem stems every conflict and every bliss; every conversation, every process. Everything is The Universe and All Things understanding themself.

Seven Gables Road Natural Area

Located at the end of 7 Gables Rd in Ingham County MI is a wooded trail with a curse. Folklore has it that, the trail used to lead to an old house occupied by a witch. One night, a group of burglars broke in, and eventually burned the house to the ground with the witch inside. After she died, the witch cursed the trail and the woods surrounding it.

Years later, a family moved to the land and built a new home. However, the curse drove the father mad and led to a triple homicide ending in the father’s own death in “The Hanging Tree”.

The curse is still active now, with visitors reporting strange noises and a feeling of being followed in the woods at night. The trail is guarded by a rusted metal gate and according to the myth, the last person to cross the gate on the way out has three days to live.

Hell’s Bridge

This one is a bit of a hike. This spooky bridge located in Rockford, MI is the home of an evil demon. As the legend goes, a man by the name of Elias Friske was possessed by this demon, leading to the murder of seven children. The bridge that stands there now is not the original, but it is still said that you can hear the devil laughing and children crying on the bridge at midnight.

As I said, this one is harder to get to. It is an hour and twenty minute drive west. Not to mention, the bridge itself is notoriously hard to find down a barely marked trail.

Hatchet Man Road

This spooky spot is located between Gobles and Kalamazoo, MI. According to legend, a father in the 1980s slowly lost his sanity due to the curse. He forced his family to fully move into a fallout shelter that he built. Eventually, he went completely insane and killed his family with a hatchet.

Today, there are reports of strange lights and sounds in the woods. Many visitors report the area to be unnaturally dark and quiet, and some have even seen partial apparitions of the man’s family. A trail into the woods is located on 28th Ave, between M-40 and 9th Street. There is a small pull-off near a small bridge with access to trailheads. The area is popular for hunting so if you go, please be aware and wear bright colors.

Two Oak Parks

Located in Lansing off of E Saginaw St, this public park stands on grounds formerly occupied by a graveyard. When the park was developed, the graves were dug up and moved to other locations in the area. According to legend, many bodies were missed in the process and remain buried underneath the park.

Nearby in Charlotte, is another haunted park by the same name. Eerily enough, this park is haunted for the same exact reason. At both locations, visitors report swings moving unnaturally by themselves, apparitions, and an unsettling vibe in general.

Mayo Hall

On MSU’s campus, Mayo hall is not only the oldest residential hall, but also the most haunted. Although Mary Mayo (who the building was named after) did not die in the building, some think that the building is inhabited by other old spirits.

In the “Red Room” on the fourth floor, there have been reports of an apparition sitting at the piano, doors swinging shut, and lights going out unexpectedly. This room was supposedly used for satanic rituals in the building’s early years. Elsewhere, residents and visitors have reported feelings of being watched, doors slamming and strange smells.
