BRADSHUPE GENERALMANAGER CLUB NEWS
July is shaping up to be another exciting and memorable month at Pine Island Country Club!
It seems like every time you visit, you’ll notice something new happening around the club Our team remains focused on enhancing your experience while continuing to invest in the future of Pine Island
Club Improvements
We’ve already checked off a few major projects this summer, including the resurfacing of the members’ parking lot and the drive through the property, providing a smoother and more welcoming arrival experience.
We’re also thrilled to officially open our new pickleball courts! Whether you’re an experienced player or looking to try the fastest-growing sport in the country, we hope you’ll grab a paddle and join the fun.
This month also marks the beginning of our tee and practice area renovation project. This investment will significantly improve both the golf course and practice facilities for years to come Be sure to read Jim’s article in this newsletter for all the details and what to expect during construction
Looking ahead, we’re working closely with the Board of Governors on our next round of enhancements, including a convenient water station near the 1 tee and plans to weatherize the beautiful patio overlooking the golf course, creating another comfortable gathering space for members throughout the year
New Faces, Great Leadership
We’re fortunate to have two outstanding leaders making an immediate impact.
Miss Ivy has done a tremendous job strengthening our Food & Beverage operation by focusing on staff training, improving scheduling, and implementing daily service systems that help ensure our team is prepared to deliver the exceptional hospitality you deserve.
Steve has hit the ground running in the Golf Shop. His vision is to create a more visible, approachable, and member-focused golf operation. In just a short time, he’s expanded instructional opportunities and developed an efficient club repair area capable of everything from custom club building to re-gripping and repairs.

PINE ISLAND COUNTRY CLUB
New Members!
Alec & Alexander Sullivan
My fiancée and I recently decided to join Pine Island because we were looking for a club with a strong golf culture, great amenities, and a welcoming membership. I’m most looking forward to getting involved in the golf community, meeting other members, and making Pine Island a place we enjoy for years to come. Outside of golf, I work as a Product Manager, enjoy running, and am currently planning an August 2026 wedding.
Sean & Julie Quick
Sean and Julie are coming to Pine Island from NorthStone in Huntersville after 18 years there. Sean is retired from Federal law enforcement and the banking industry and Julie is retired from early childhood education. Sean is looking forward to being able to walk the golf course at Pine Island which was a huge draw to him.
Sean and Julie are both graduates of UNC Charlotte and the parents of three children and have two grandchildren who are moving to Belmont, NC.
Torey Smiley
I joined Pine Island Country Club mainly for the social side of things, and I’m excited to dive into pickleball and spend time at the pool. As a Charlotte native, I’m looking forward to meeting fellow members and getting more involved in the community Fun fact: I used to compete in Irish dancing!
COURSE UPDATE
JIMSCHRAMM
GOLFCOURSESUPERINTENDENT
Summer is in full swing with high temperatures and little rain. A few reminders as we battle the heat. Please spray all sunscreen and bug spray on cart paths as it will damage grass. Cicada killers are out and about! You will see badminton rackets placed around on certain greens Please feel free to whack at them as they fly around and you’re waiting for your partners to putt. It is very uncommon for them to attack humans, but they do a number on our greens.
Project Update
There have been delays on the contractors end with personal issues and weather on the projects they were finishing up. Environmental Solutions will start work on the par-3 tees the first full week of July, then move to the driving range tee, and finally complete redevelopment of the short-game surrounds.
While the par-3 tees are under construction, all play will be from the green tees. This will continue until the reconstructed tees are ready to open. Once those tees are open for play, we will strip and resod the green tees
Construction Schedule
Hole 8 (Estimated: 1 week)
Remove existing turf
Level the tee complex
Remove stairs on the white tees
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Resod with Tahoma 31
Hole 13 (Estimated: 1 week)
Remove existing turf
Lower the tee approximately one foot
Laser level the area
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Resod with Tahoma 31
Hole 3 (Estimated: 1 week)
Remove existing turf
Level the blue and white tees to create additional teeing space
Laser level the gold tees
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Delay sodding until Hole 17 is complete
Hole 17 (Estimated: 1 week)
Remove existing turf
Remove approximately one foot of material from the blue tees and expand toward the cart path and Hole 16 green
Remove shrubs behind the tee and expand back toward the cart path to add approximately 10 yards
Laser level the white tees and improve transitions into the blue tees
Laser level the gold tees
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Sod all tee areas
Holes 3 and 17 will be worked on simultaneously to allow material sharing between the two projects
Driving Range Tee Renovation (Estimated: 1 week)
Remove existing turf
Laser level the tee
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Resod with Tahoma 31
Players will hit from mats until the turf is ready for play. There will be no overseeding, and mats will remain in use throughout the winter.
Short Game Facility Renovation (Estimated: 2 weeks)
Remove existing turf around the current green and extending to the small range tee
Fill the existing bunker
Build a new bunker between the green and range tee
Remove the berm along the range body
Soften undulations between the short-game area and small range tee
Laser level the small range tee
Address drainage and irrigation needs
Resod with Tahoma 31
The current bunker, existing chipping area, and small range tee will all be maintained at fairway height, increasing short-cut turf from 8,000 square feet to approximately 20,000 square feet.
Please note that construction timelines may change depending on weather conditions. This also applies to reopening the reconstructed areas. We will reopen surfaces only when the turf is fully established and suitable for play.
As always, our team would like to thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you out on the course!
GOLF UPDATE
STEPHENKERR HEADGOLFPROFESSIONAL
I couldn’t be more excited to officially introduce myself as your new Head Golf Professional. My name is Stephen Kerr, and while I grew up in Rochester, New York, North Carolina has always held a special place in my heart. I attended NC State University’s PGA Golf Management Program to earn my Class A PGA Membership, and after nearly 20 years in the golf industry, it feels incredibly rewarding to be back in North Carolina at a club I’ve long admired. I’d like to sincerely thank Brad and the Griffin Brothers for the opportunity to call Pine Island home. I look forward to serving this membership for many years to come.
One of the things I enjoy most about this profession is helping golfers of every skill level enjoy the game even more. Whether you’re interested in private instruction, group clinics, junior programs, ladies’ clinics, on-course playing lessons, or club fitting, I’m excited to build a teaching program that has something for everyone. I also still love to compete, so if you ever need a fourth in your game, a partner in a member event, or someone to join you in a Pro-Am, don’t hesitate to ask—I always enjoy getting out on the course with our members.
I’m also excited to announce our new club repair workshop located in the cart barn. We’ll be offering everything from regripping and loft & lie adjustments to shaft replacements, ferrule
work, and complete club builds. Our goal is to provide the same level of service and attention to detail that you’d expect from the best club repair shops, right here at Pine Island.
Finally, I’m incredibly fortunate to work alongside an outstanding team. Efren Romero is one of the hardestworking professionals I’ve ever been around. Tom Roth’s expertise in Golf Genius, tournament operations, and the Rules of Golf is second to none. Cam Phillips brings tremendous energy every day and has earned his way from the cart staff to the golf shop through his dedication and passion for the game. Together, we’re committed to providing a first-class golf experience every day.
My door is always open, and I look forward to getting to know each of you and your families. Please don’t hesitate to stop by the golf shop to introduce yourself—I can’t wait to meet you.
See you at the club!
