CLUB NEWS BRAD SHUPE GENERAL MANAGER

First and foremost, congratulations to all of our newly crowned Club Champions over the past month. Being a Club Champion is an accomplishment you will remember and savor forever. In addition, we had our very own Blake Wagner tie the course record with a blistering 61. It is great to see so much outstanding golf being played at Pine Island! One of the most significant benefits of belonging to a club is access to the golf course and the opportunity to enjoy a positive environment rooted in flexibility, kindness, and empathy. We remain committed to nurturing these core values every day. One important issue we are addressing through this lens is weekend access to the golf course. When the reservation window opens 10 days in advance, the majority, if not all, of the 27 tee times between 7:30 a.m. and noon are typically taken within a few hours. However, we are averaging only 23 groups, and approximately 80 golfers, who actually play golf on that day during that window. To address this fairly and improve access for the entire membership, we will be diligently enforcing the “TBD” policy outlined in our current Rules & Regulations, which eliminates these placeholder reservations (ghost golfers) two days in advance. We believe this is the most gracious way to encourage members to finalize their weekend golf plans while also releasing reservations they no longer need. Please know we are also monitoring habitual no-shows. We will continue to actively monitor, communicate, and look for ways to improve this situation so we can maximize access to the golf course for all members. We appreciate your empathy, kindness, and consideration for your fellow members. Lastly, we have committed to making Halloween a signature event at Pine Island! The centerpiece will be our “Trunk or Treat,” where kids can walk from trunk to trunk filling their candy baskets. We will also have a tractor-pulled hayride through the haunted forests of Pine Island for the whole family, along with a nice “warm bar” featuring beverages to warm you from the inside out. It’s the night before Halloween, so we hope you’ll have a chance to break in your costumes and join us for a great night at the spookiest place in West Charlotte! See you at your club!

COURSE UPDATE JIM SCHRAMM GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

October is finally here, bringing cooler weather and optimal conditions for our Bentgrass greens. Our team would like to thank the entire membership for your continued support throughout this hot and dry summer. Project Update The new Short Game facility will open for Member-Guest weekend and remain open moving forward. The range tee will close after Member-Guest, and we will move to the mats for the winter. Normally, we would overseed the range tee, but we are skipping it this year due to the immaturity of the existing plant. Short Game The new Short Game facility provides ample hitting area for members to practice a variety of shots from many different angles. If you want to turn around and hit a few wedges toward the range fairway, you can. We also built the bunker with a low enough exit to allow members to practice fairway bunker shots. The new bunker has already proven itself through several rain events, with no washouts. As part of the bunker construction, we added additional drainage and decided to use Bunker Solutions as the liner. Bunker liners help prevent contamination of the natural soil, promote better drainage, and keep sand in place, especially on bunker faces. There are many different liner options available, including capillary concrete, Better Billy, traditional fabric, and no liner at all. We chose Bunker Solutions as a test for any future bunker projects, as we have the opportunity to visit and evaluate courses using many of the other liner systems. Bunker Solutions is a synthetic turf liner with fibers that lay at a 30-degree angle uphill to help hold the bunker sand in place. The liner is nonpermeable and directs water toward the drainage system at the bottom of the bunker. Because of this, we can use less sand while still maintaining the desired bunker conditions. Another benefit is that there is no perched water table within the bunker. And, if you ever find yourself hitting from an area that is low on sand, you will be hitting off white synthetic turf that will not damage your club! We can’t wait for everyone to get out there and try it out.

New Members!

tel & Jeena Pa Logan Kameron We joined Pine Island because we love playing golf together and wanted to be part of a welcoming club community. We’re looking forward to participating in club events, playing evening rounds, and meeting fellow members. A little about us; we recently got married in May 2026, we’re both chiropractors, and we love spending time with our two dogs, Kona and Kannon.

tacy Sean & S Buel Hello Pine Island CC! We're so excited to join as members. We moved down from Washington DC a year ago (although Stacy had previously lived in Plaza Midwood for 12 years). Joining Pine Island was mostly Sean's idea since Stacy doesn't play golf (yet!) but we are also looking forward to having pool access to beat the Charlotte heat and socializing with other members. Sean works remotely as a contractor for the Federal Government and Stacy sells wine to local wine stores, country clubs and restaurants in the Charlotte area. We have a goldendoodle named Angus who is 13 years old!

arly Tyler & C Swarmer We decided to join Pine Island Country Club because we wanted to be part of a welcoming community where our family can spend time together and make some great memories. We’re especially looking forward to days by the pool, getting out on the golf course, and watching Liam grow up around friends and a community we really enjoy being part of.

ndrea Blake & A Fiest My wife and I are thrilled to be joining Pine Island and becoming part of the community. I played college golf at Virginia Tech and now work in the airplane business, while my wife, an Auburn graduate, works for Lowe’s Corporate. We are both looking forward to meeting you all and enjoying the club!

ntonio A & a y n o T Tolson Antonio and I joined Pine Island Country Club because we believe deeply in family, community, and building meaningful relationships with people who share those same values. As parents, community advocates, and co-founders of AJ and the Cool Kids, we were drawn to the welcoming staff, the opportunities to connect with other families, and the Club’s commitment to creating partnerships that make a positive impact in our community.

Tommy Holloway I grew up playing golf competitively, but as I got older, I slowly drifted away from the game. I joined Pine Island Country Club because of the great amenities, beautiful course, and welcoming environment. I’m looking forward to getting back into the game, meeting new people, and making the most of being part of the club. I’m excited to rediscover my love for golf and hopefully get back to playing at the level I once did.

zek Greg Bac & Family We’re really excited to join Pine Island and have a place where our family can spend time together. I’ve always loved golf and am especially looking forward to getting back out there, playing a lot, and making up for some lost time. We’re also looking forward to meeting people, enjoying the different activities, and making Pine Island a place where our family can make great memories.
