TABERNACLE —Being National Blueberry Month, July is the perfect time to enjoy the fresh, delicious varieties of this health-enhancing fruit that are grown right here in the Pine Barrens – but only because of a ‘true-blue’ tradition of family farming that has been resolutely carried on despite some challenges along the way. At their peak, these luscious blue beauties make a most versatile addition to

your diet, whether served in a bowl for an afternoon snack, added to cereal, tucked into pancakes, or as the main ingredient of a pie. They also freeze nicely for smoothies or for wintertime baking, when locally grown berries are not available. At Moore’s Meadow Blueberry and Cranberry Farm, in Tabernacle Township, some 40 acres of highbush blueberries – about 46,000 plants – are cultivated annually, including the Duke variety, which ripen early in the growing season,

MEDFORD—It has been a longtime coming, and the day finally arrived. After years of convening closed-door sessions to discuss, in part, “matters relating to litigation, negotiations and the attorneyclient privilege: Burlington County Library,” with the discussions reportedly pertaining to the future and possible relocation of the Pinelands Branch Library at 39 Allen Avenue, Medford Tow nsh ip Council authorized the execution of a Library Branch Service Agreement with the Burlington County Library Commission, along with a Library Branch Dedication Agreement with the commission and the Burlington County Board of Commissioners, on June 15. Dav id Lev i nsk y, a spokesman for Burlington County, later told this newspaper that the two pacts were approved by the Burlington County Library Commission, also on June 15, and by the Burlington County Board of Commissioners on June 23. The ag re ements, obt ai ned by th is newspaper through an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request, outline, in part, the logistics and cost responsibility for the relocation of the library branch to the new combination library and municipal building erected by the township at 49 Union Street in Medford, as well as set standards for the new building’s use by the library branch, in addition to assigning responsibility for upkeep and the payment of utilities.
