Developer Seeks Letter of Support for Solar Project in Southampton ‘Solar Sites’ Would Generate 2.3 Megawatts of Electricity

SOU T H A M P TON — Next Era Energy Resources, a Juno Beach, Florida company that contends it is the largest developer and operator of renewable energy in the world, has set its sights on two parcels in Southampton Township for a community solar project that it hopes can be supported through a new state initiative. “The way we identified Southampton for this project is we took a look at the typography of the land, and the willingness of land owners to speak with us, enter into a partnership with us and form an interconnection,” said Kevin Hu, a project manager for NextEra Energy Resources, at the latest meeting of the Southampton Township Committee. Hu said the company would like to construct “solar sites,” with ground-based solar panels, on two lots that sit along Beaver Dam and Red Lion roads. A PowerPoint presentation he provided to the township committee noted that the two sites combined are 12 acres. “There are two projects that we are looking at,” he said. “One will be comprised of 1.1 megawatts of electricity, the other would be comprised of 1.2 megawatts of electricity, each about six acres each,” he said. “They are both See LETTER/ Page 10
