EVESHAM— Given that just hours before Evesham Township’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration was set to begin a gunman killed seven people and injured nearly two dozen more in Highland Park, Illinois during a Fourth of July parade, a massacre that has horrified the nation, and that gun violence is fresh on the minds of many Americans following numerous other recent mass shootings in the U.S., the Evesham Township Police Department was already on a heightened state of alert for the local event. T he sit u at iona l awa re ne s s a nd preparedness of the Evesham Township Police, along with the actions of an alert citizen, reportedly resulted in a man with a loaded airsoft revolver-style handgun being quickly removed from the local celebration’s grounds on the evening of July 4 before any incident could possibly come about. The following day, Evesham Police, in a statement released on its social media pages, said that authorities had no reason to believe the man found in possession of the handgun, identified as Blaine McCammack, 29, of Wailuku, Hawaii, “intended to carry out an assault on patrons” of the Evesham event.
