MEDFORD—Thomas L. Thorn began his firefighting career on his 18th birthday in 1987. And he ended that distinguished journey 33 years later, when on Jan. 1, he became the first chief of the Medford Township Department of Fire and EMS to retire. “And it has been a great journey,” said Thorn, upon his being bestowed at a recent Medford Township Council meeting an Engraved Firefighter Gold Axe Award for his years of dedication and service. “I met so many See CHIEF/ Page 7
