SOUTHAMPTON—It is a local political event that typically is a mustnot-miss affair for any Burlington County, New Jersey 8th Legislative District or 3rd Congressional District candidate who is serious about seeking political office due

to not only the important voting bloc it targets, but also the media coverage associated with it given it is one of only a few major, local political events where voters actually get to hear directly from the candidates in-person leading up to Election Day. And lending credence to just how

important this annual event is – Diane Allen, a Republican running for lieutenant governor in New Jersey, even made an appearance this year before it was over. But the Democratic slate of candidates in this year’s 8th District race, skipped the LeisureTowne Candidates Forum hosted See STANFIELD/ Page 6

SOUTHAMPTON—After Democrats gained absolute control of the Burlington County Board of Commissioners (formerly known as the Board of Chosen Freeholders) last year, and the GOP lost control of the board for the first time in more than 40 years in 2019, Republicans Al Pallanti and John Adams are vying to win back two seats for the GOP this November, and in doing so, the latter during an Oct. 20 LeisureTowne Candidates Forum accused the Democrats of “following,” not leading. Adams, in fact, excoriated the commissioners during the forum for mishandling county recycling, park grant opportunities for local towns, as well as animal adoptions and visitations at the county animal shelter, while also claiming that there was a fee increase passed on to county residents that was essentially a “tax increase.” But Commissioners’ Director Felicia Hopson, along with Daniel J. O’Connell, deputy director, pushed back against those charges during the forum, with the director contending “we got a lot of good things going on in Burlington County despite what our competitors are saying” and the deputy director maintaining that “everyone has got their opinions, but there is really See BOARD/ Page 7
