LITTLE EGG HARBOR—Dr. Melissa McCooley, shared superintendent of the Little Egg Harbor School and Pinelands Regional School districts, made clear during the latest Pinelands Regional Board of Education meeting that she is not backing down in her pursuit of a fiveyear contract extension with both districts, all as the request is giving way to an ugly rift between members of the regional high school district’s governing body.

Tom “Tommy” Williams, who represents Bass River Township on the Pinelands Regional Board of Education, was lambasted for several minutes during the Sept. 23 meeting by colleague August “Augie” Daleo, an ardent supporter of the superintendent who helped arrange the final execution of the current shared service agreement (while he served on the Little Egg Harbor Board of Education). Daleo, who now represents Little Egg Harbor on the Pinelands Regional board, during his Sept. 23 public remarks, in

which Williams later called a “tirade,” also apparently excoriated Susan Ernst, former president of the Pinelands Regional board, contending that she recently attempted to harass the superintendent, and called board members “stupid” or “idiots” in a text message inadvertently sent to the superintendent. Ernst, who has recently written in local social media pages about her concerns with the direction of the board and
