MEDFORD—Nearly two months after Brooks W. Garrison, an architect with Garrison Architects, unveiled a Medford Township Council plan to construct a two-floor, over 20,0 0 0 -squa re-foot Medford Township combination library-municipal building at 51 Union St., council unanimously awarded a $8,194,000 contract for the project to Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. Tuesday night (Oct. 15). According to Township Clerk and Manager Katherine Burger’s office, Medford received and opened bids for the construction of the new building on Oct. 9. Seven bids were received by the township, according to her office, and Arthur J. Ogren, based in Vineland, was the lowest bidder. An Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request by this newspaper revealed that Dandrea Construction Co. Inc. ($8,746,000), Eagle Construction Services, Inc. ($9,285,514), G&P Parlamas, Inc. ($8,568,000), Hall Building Cor p. ($9,385,0 0 0), and J.H. Williams Enterprises ($9,387,000) were the other bidders for the project. The state’s Local Public Contracts Law requires municipalities to award projects to the lowest qualified and responsible bidder. The library is slated to be constructed on the first floor of the proposed building, and most of the amenities slated for the proposed building’s first floor are associated with the library.
