WASHINGTON—A pair of Nor’easters hammered the Pines on March 20 and 21, the latest in what has been a series of coastal storms to affect the region over the past two months. The first storm brought a combination of sleet, freezing rain and wet snow to the region Tuesday afternoon and evening which led to slippery road conditions and a number of minor accidents. By dusk, a glaze of ice was visible on trees, vehicles and buildings. The precipitation became intermittent and drizzly by 9 p.m., which allowed road crews to clear most roads of ice. Precipitation rates picked up again as a second Nor’easter developed offshore around 10 a.m. Wednesday. A mixture of sleet and rain quickly turned to wet snow, which became heavier as the afternoon progressed.
